This place is an absolute disgrace. There are many very kind residents here who won't advocate for…read morethemselves because they live in fear of losing their homes due to a childish staff who don't like one another (two of which are now gone, thankfully). There's supposed to be an in-house service coordinator to help people but they don't exist. From the day I signed the lease it was nothing but confusion and unnecessary drama, which admittedly, I should have taken as a red flag to go elsewhere. Maintainance was deplorable, though they got an excellent temp for a bit but obviously he declined to stay on any longer. The other maintenance staffperson is a young man who deserves a medal for having put up with the woman they got rid of and the disgusting state of this building. Tenants pay astronomical rent with no help in understanding the process of how to get vouchers. Have a job? Don't work from home, they have inspections about once a month and they'll come to your apartment if you want them to or not and whether you're home or not, according to the letters. They seem to pass these inspections every time despite bed bugs, mold, leaks, greasy footprints all over the floor. The "events" are bingo 2x weekly and cards once a week, which about 5-8 people play. More of a gossip club, as is the smoker's club outside. Don't let anyone know your business, and boy do they think they're entitled to it. This bldg is the only one of the 16 Church Residences properties in Michigan to not give subsidies. Rent is flat rate regardless of what percentile they figure you fall into, and goes up NOT at the end of your lease, but in January, by about $50. Most elderly do not even get that kind of increase in their social security yearly, so if you stay here, you will eventually need an extra source of income, but you're limited at that so that you don't go over some fictional threshold that is more than the area median. I have 2 different papers I was given with two different income limits, and they are drastically different. Speaking of area (this part not being their fault of course), if you like methheads and hood thugs, this is the place for you. Bar fights behind the building, police at the neighboring apartment almost daily, M-80s set off in the adjacent park at 3 am. Your car is not safe and neither are you. Derelicts sneak into the building and do absolutely disgusting things so we live on lockdown, and the trash that do live here let them in at night. I spoke to a resident that stated she knew a couple of them have let them in. Then there's the section 8 dwellers that for some reason are allowed to live here (22 units worth, I believe), and you sure know who they are. This was a 55+ and now 62+ but there's people in here far younger than that getting section 8. Favoritisms are played, it's very clear. They should be going by people's income, but it doesn't work that way. It used to. Free water but don't expect it to be hot. I have to run mine 10-15 minutes in the AM for shower. Plumbing clogs up all the time, horrible smells, peeling paint from excess moisture. Pressure comes and goes, and showers come in hot/cold bursts. Have to heat water on stove to do dishes many times. No recycling, wasted resources everywhere, dog feces (at least I hope it's dog) on the carpets that haven't been replaced since the building was built in late 70s/early 80s, filth, mold, bed bugs (which they think entitles them to keep you in your apartment if they get them, even though the rest of the building is disgusting), hallways clocking in at 95 degrees in the summer because they wont turn on the air anywhere except downstairs. A/C that is only in bedrooms and living room, not kitchen where it's needed, AND you only get heat or air, not both. They turn it off from October to May. No grocery store trips or senior center. Tenants are expected to take the city bus. Rule enforcement depends on who you are. One person gets kicked out immediately for a cigarette starting a balcony fire while another gets caught smoking at least four times and they're still here. There are 8 washers and 8 dryers that an outside company are supposed to maintain that they clearly do not. No soap comes out on the 11th floor and way too much on the 5th, for example. Floor 8 someone washed their sh##tty pants or dog's blankets out in the sink, which we've found more than once. There are 154 units, with 20 of them being 2 bedrooms. There could be upwards of 200 people living in this building and it has 16 laundry machines to accomodate that, and space for about 30 of them in the communal room for meals on wheels. You are inundated with rule addendums and notes left at the door over the least little thing. I could point out dozens more things but the bottom line is this property rakes in $1.2+ million a year in rent. Where is all our money going if National Church Residences and MSDHA can't even do basic things like replace the tile in the elevators and the carpet in the halls?

Just recently moved here from TX for a job transfer. My wife and I moved into these apartments and…read morehave been very happy here. They are fairly new, EET clean, and well taken care of. We really like having a 2-car garage, not something you typically get with an apartment. The grounds are kept up very well, and the neighbors have all been very nice. We have 2 dogs and it appears so do most of the residents here, as it's very dog-friendly! The staff who I have dealt with, in particular Yehmien, has been fantastic, friendly, and very helpful, especially when it came to our move-in. I would highly recommend taking a look at this place if you are in the market for a nice apartment in this area, you won't regret it.

I've lived in many apartments in my day (through college, etc) and this is by far the quietest I have ever lived in. I'll occasionally hear the toilet flush on one of our neighbors or the shower going, but otherwise nothing else. Ever. We are only the second tenants to live in our apartment so everything is like brand new yet (which is why the higher rent is justifiable for me). I like the granite throughout, hardwood floors, ceiling fans in most rooms and two car garage is awesome. We have a nice back patio that backs to trees, which again is great. Whenever we've had to put in a maintenance request in, Kenny is here the next day to take care of it. He's awesome to work with and does a great job. Maintenance requests were light bulb out, we nicked the paint and wanted a touch up. I typically email Kena, the office manager and always get a fast and friendly reply from her. Neighbors are nice. Neighborhood is nice, safe and quiet. Very happy here!!

Okay so where do I start? Everything started off great and I thought I moved into a decent…read moreapartment community, but it end up being the worst rental experience possible. Three weeks into me living here I found bed bugs crawling in my apartment. Mind you I've lived at my previous address for years and never had bed bugs before. Now at this point I am very uncomfortable. Since I have never experienced anything like this before, I immediately get on the internet and do some research on these bugs. After spending a couple of hours on the internet I went out and brought the Harrison Bed Bug Kit to prevent the spread of infestation. The reviews said to mist Dichotomous Earth where ever I think the bed bugs will hide, so I did just that. The next day I told the maintenance staff about the situation and he told me he would tell the community manger, which is Jamere. He did as promised because the following day I got a phone call from Jamere to come and talk to her. Me and Jamere talked and I expressed to her that I was uncomfortable living here and that It's unfair that I have to live under these conditions. After talking she said someone will be out to take care of the bed bugs. Fast forward to two days later I noticed that my neighbor directly across the hall had her door open and was moving furniture out. I go out and ask her friends whats going on and they tell me they are about to exterminate. I ask them what they are about to exterminate and he reply's, "we're trying to get rid of the bed bugs." I heard my neighbor say she has been dealing with this infestation for over a year. At this point I am livid. Now it makes sense. Because she has a infestation with bed bugs I to have to deal with bed bugs, not fair. I could go on and on here, but I think you get the picture. As I mentioned before this is the worst rental experience ever! The general manager Aaron does not respond to phone calls and the place is infested with bed bugs. Oh and the central air doesn't work.

The manager Pat blows a lot of smoke out. She discusses your personal business with other tenants…read more When she has a concern with you she never contacts you personally. I was there one year and there were four maintenance guys. Pat claims her sister owns property but never wants you to speak your concerns with the sister. Her mom stays in building and never can converse with other tenants. I stop paying rent because water leaks everywhere and has damaged all of my belongings. I did a check list when moved in and nothing ever was done and I verbally spoke with Pat reminding her and even emailed her. Not up to date on taxes with Wayne County. They are listed as Forfeited for 2008 and deliquent 2009 and who knows 2010. Water bill behind making partial payments. If you go look up and down and around dead flies in lights. Parking sucks have to fight for spots because bar next to it is normally off the hook. Suppose to be seniors second floor up and and and everyone has moved in, whether living with grand parents or just to collect that rent. I learned the hard way that sometimes what looks good is not. She's never in the office, you'll see her car and the lights on but she will have family pick her up and ride with them. I should have known something neighbors were complaining about leakage and I was invited over to be shown how it literally would rain over the entire room. Again this unit is on the ground level where tenant would cover bed and Tvs and Furniture with plastic tarps. after researching I came to the conclusion Pat and whomever owns this property are about to foreclose because its document to far gone in taxes and water bill so just stacking until get put out. Oh and for some reason they still never took me or anyone else to court for anything.
