They are incredibly responsive and reliable and have worked with us to resolve multiple challenges in our older home and other properties. Recently they assisted us with installing a new furnace. We were impressed with how efficiently it was installed with mimium disruption. They worked with us to find the right unit and make it cost effective. Tom Walker runs a shady company that will overcharge you. Work takes longer than expected. No communication and you will have no idea what work is being done and when. He is rude and unprofessional as he will yell, curse and have a temper tantrum when you ask for any updates or questions about the work being done. Any positive reviews are outdated as this company seems to have plummeted into the ground. Steer clear of this business as there are so many better options in Chicago. read more

Maybe Midtown Mechanical was good back in 2012 or 2013, when many of these reviews were written, but NOW, they are awful. We had them install a furnace that never operated correctly. We finally had to pay another company to review the install. The confirmed what the issue was, and I called Tom and Tim Walker to ask them to come and complete the job (that I had already paid them to do). Not only did they refuse to come out, but Tim Walker used a slew of profanities, and told me not to contact them again. COMPLETE SCUMBAG. Do not even consider using this company. read more

I can't say enough nice things about Midtown Mechanical Corporation! They are wonderful! Four years ago I bought a new Goodman Furnace. Unfortunately, the furnace is pretty much a lemon. I have had numerous problems with it. So many, in fact, that I wrote complaint letters to high ranking executives at Goodman Manufacturing. The result -- an extended warranty that included labor. The current warranty I had included parts, but did not include the pricey labor costs the furnace was continuously racking up. Last Wednesday, my heat went out. . .again. Because of this special warranty, I had to go to the Goodman website to find a certified vendor. I must have called 6 vendors on the list-- each saying 1) they don't travel downtown (I live in the West Loop) and 2) we won't honor the warranty -- Goodman reimburses a small amount and we can't afford it. Needless to say, I realized that my extended warranty was pretty much useless. Then I talked to Tom Walker at Midtown Mechanical Corporation. I explained my situation to him. He empathized with me and told me he would call his contacts at Goodman to see what he could do. He had a team of two technicians at my condo in less than hour. They quickly identified the problem (the induce motor was shot) and quickly fixed the the problem when the part came in. Tom and his team went above and beyond for me. And while he could not honor the warranty, he worked with me to offer a fair price. It really meant a lot to me. And, it restored by hope that there are good vendors out there that aren't trying to screw me over!! I will definitely be referring Midtown Mechanical Corporation to my neighbors and other condo owners that I know in the West Loop and throughout the city. read more

I live in a cheap-ass apartment building where if you want things fixed, you pay for it out of your own pocket or get evicted. Sad, but true. I've had Midtown Mechanical come out three years ago to look at my apartment units furnace and they did a great job. Now, I needed them again. Two INCREDIBLE TECHNICIANS came out, fixed what needed to be done and saved me $70.00 by telling me that I could return the digital thermostat I bought, thinking that was the problem. (it wasn't; it was a faulty ignitor switch) I was so happy with the bill and the men that I gave each one of them a $10.00 tip and I STILL SAVED MONEY!!!! I plan on recommending them to 100% of my friends and family. read more

This review is a bit long in coming even though my first and continuing impression of Midtown was/is fabulous. I wait to write reviews because you need to know how a company will react when things go wrong, not just when you first buy/install. I first called them during the horrible 2013/14 winter's end. For our new/old house we needed 2 central AC units to be put into the 1st and 2nd floor of a small Victorian house. They were on the spot immediately with their amazing first lieutenant Jarek and started climbing around, into the basement, onto the roof, before I had my first cup of coffee. I had other bids but these guys just obviously knew what they were doing and I wanted this to be done right! It is not nothing to put central-air into a very old house. Jarek made me feel comfortable. They are professionals and know the construction business well -- they are not puzzled or discouraged by anything. (well ok, they said they couldn't get the old AC unit off the roof without bringing in a crane. My roofers just took it apart and dropped it into the yard in pieces?!) My guess is (no verification for this) that they often work on larger projects than mine. (the crane?) They insulate correctly, cut holes correctly, vent correctly, set thermostats correctly, etc and are able, knowledgable, and have enough integrity to do things the right way. *They have profound and subtle knowledge of the workings of shelter* and were experts at figuring out how to fit large AC units and duct work into this complex Victorian. I got bids from several companies and Midtown was among the most expensive, but I knew this was a tricky job and decided it was worth it. If you can deal with the very odd situation of having Tom and Tim Walker answering the same phone line but not exactly knowing what the other one has said, then you're good. I came to like all of them and I trust that as we move forward they will (and already have after storms flipped the breakers) come out promptly if anything goes wrong. Highly recommended. read more

I called Midtown Mechanical concerning a loud noise that was related to a furnace in our single-family home. It was very easy to set up an appointment and a 2 man crew arrived exactly on time. They were great about explaining exactly what they were doing and searching for to fix the problem. After about 2.5 hours, including a trip to the store for needed supplies, the problem was fixed and we can now sleep soundly. I had to replace a furnace that was only a few years old because of a design defect and Midtown Mechanical and its owner, Tom Walker, was able to advocate on my behalf with the manufacturer to my satisfaction. They came to install the furnace only two or three days later and the workmen were, as usual, professional and polite. The guys who run this place have very bad customer service. Tim is the guy you deal with regards to getting quotes. They are cheap and that sucks you in but they hit me up for extra costs at the end of the service such as they needed extra freon. They don't even stand by their work....The compressor they installed in the unit went bad within the year and they they said too bad. Be very vary of hiring these guys. I feel sorry for the AC engineers they employ they seem like good people. read more

This whole search for a good HVAC company started because my neighbor downstairs complained of leaking water and was convinced it was coming from my AC unit. I called Midtown Mechanical after the previous HVAC person I had out tried to sell me a new evaporator coil saying that it was rusty and needed to be replaced. I wanted a second opinion to make sure i wouldn't be wasting over a grand for nothing. I didn't mention that I had someone out before because I wanted an unbiased opinion. The technician found that the drain pipe wasn't pitched very well (the other guy said he had improved the pitch on it). He replaced the entire pvc pipe rather than just cutting, draining, cleaning, and adding another connector piece. He told me that the coil was fine and just needed yearly cleaning. The tech was on time, polite, and professional. He was definitely more thorough in inspecting for the cause of a possible leak. I will be giving Midtown a call when it's time for my fall furnace checkup. read more
