Midnight Oil is great!! The pizza is seriously so good, and the bartenders made the experience even better. They are super friendly with great service all around. I had the frozen jalapeño peach margarita and I can't recommend it enough!! It was genuinely perfect. They also had a fun lineup in the frozen machine, including a Transfusion, frosé, and a frozen espresso martini. We grabbed a couple slices (cheese and pepperoni), and both were exactly what you want for a late-night slice. I'll definitely be back to try more...the specialty pies look AMAZING. The "Sweet Heat" with honey and jalapeños is already at the top of my list. The bartenders checked on us often and answered any questions we had. I loved the covered patio and open atmosphere. We met some friends here many months ago but they weren't able to accommodate our friends who had a child in need of a booster seat/high chair.* So it's been on our list to try and I swung by recently with another friend for a late Saturday lunch. I ordered a whole pie as I planned to take the bulk of it home for the household later--our server warned me it would be large (and it was). My friend ordered a few different slices. You really get your money's worth here as two pieces will fill most folks up, each slice is huge. I ordered the triple meat. The crust is thin but not too thin, the cheese has a good pull, and the sauce is perfect. The triple meat? Delicious. Pepperoni, a spicy sausage, and tiny crispy bacon bits. On reheat in the oven later it was just as good. I'd love to try the buffalo and white pizza on a future visit. Whole pies have 8 huge pieces and set you back barely more than $20. The fact you can also buy it by the slice for less than $4 a slice is incredible. Service was friendly. They have the basic water, tea, soda and what appears to be a healthy variety of rotating draft cocktails and beers on tap. Parking is minimal, so you'll be looking for street parking most likely but a lot of free options in the area even on Saturdays. *We spotted a family with an infant in a booster, so perhaps they were just out of them when we last swung by or have added them since. read more

This is probably my wife's and I's top pizza place in the city. It sits in the North Nations and is incredibly close to our house, there's both indoor and outdoor seating (covered porch outside, better if you have kids), and pizza by the slice. We always start with an order of the cheese sticks then usually just grab a slice of pizza each, with a shared slice for us + our toddler. The sweet heat pizza is my absolute favorite; the mix of savory (cheese and meat), sweet (honey), and spicy (jalapenos) just can't be beat. Drop by, grab a local beer on tap, a slice of pizza, and enjoy chatting with friends. Seriously, it can't be beat. Lots of TVs and a full bar inside too if you can't sit outside, but we try to because it's not as loud. This is a late night slice shop. Their tequila selection is solid for a pizza joint. It's a very popular local spot in the Nations, lots of people rave about it. Service is friendly and it's what you would expect for a decent pizza place. The slices are large and affordable, but I would never say I would crave it other than of a late night snack. They have a specialty slice/pizza that changes either weekly or monthly (I cannot remember) and these offerings are definitely unique. Pepperoni was good, mushrooms was a fail. Canned, nobody should be using canned mushrooms since the 80's. But for Nashville, second best pizza, second to Mikey's Pizza and that is a food truck, they have no brick & mortar yet. 4.5 The Nations -- who saw that coming, right? When I decided to make the trek out west to check out a new* pizza spot, I had to take the time to gawk and grouse. Gawk at the amount of construction and new builds in the neighborhood. I didn't have that on my bingo card ten years ago. Grouse because of all the congestion, issues parking, etc. that comes along with that kind of rapid growth. Midnight Oil is a neighborhood spot. I'm sure it has plenty of patrons - like me- driving to check it out. But it gets more than enough business by locals. The Friday night I visited was packed to the brim. There were people a to e in every square inch of the dining room, bar and overflow area. I managed to push my way to the bar and was surprised** to find an amiable bartender at the other end. He seemed nonplussed by the heavy crowds. He was cheerful and engaging in the face of pure chaos. I was impressed. I'd done my research so I knew what I wanted. I ordered a slice (yep, you can order by the slice; that's worth a star in and of itself) of Sweet Heat, 3 Meat and Buffalo Chicken to go. The bartender took my order and told me it was 'solid.' Since it was to go (ie I was driving), he gave me a glass of water and told me to stay where I was. Despite the crowd and me taking up a place at the bar with water, he didn't push me aside. Kudos, sir. In an appropriate amount of time, my food was ready and he gave me the big box of my bounty. I wished him well and took off. Getting home, I took out a bottle of American Blonde ale from the fridge and got to work. The Sweet Heat was a delicious blend of sweet, savory and spicy courtesy of the sliced capicola, jalapeños and honey drizzle. The 3 Meat was packed with bacon, sausage and pepperoni. And the Buffalo Chicken had a BLEU CHEESE BASE and was topped with chicken, celery, bacon, and buffalo sauce. All three slices were huge and delicious. I could barely finished but I egged myself on. The Buffalo pizza had a perfect crust and was the perfect amount of Buffalo to ranch proportions which made it tasty without being too spicy. The cheese bread was super cheesy as well. The only negative I have is that the red sauce served with the cheese bread was refrigerated cold and would have been better served warm.
