Chocolate croissant
Daphne D.

Picked up a chocolate croissant at one of their stalls at a farmers market--just okay, nothing special. Service was friendly, though there was only one worker, so things moved a bit slowly. The farmers market had a lively atmosphere, but overall, this stall is not a spot I'd go out of my way to return to.

So many delicious choices!!!

One of the best bakeries in the island for outstanding pastries. We were fortunate to secure all of our favorites in one visit!! Outstanding pastries include the chocolate and caramel Kouign Aman. Exquisite. Anything you choose at midnight bear will be wonderful. I wish they were stateside but it gives us a great reason to return! We tried a lemon danish, everything but the bagel danish filled with cream cheese, everything we tried was perfection. I'm telling you, you can't go wrong with anything from Midnight Bear, they are THAT good.

10/30/24 Just wanted to drop by and see what they had left for pastries coz they sell out QUICK. Standing behind a customer who was buying quite a but of pastries along a loaf of French bread, I look to the display case & happily see one last almond croissant. As the customer in front of me starts to leave after paying. I inform the lady that I want the last almond croissant. Not a second later, the lady in front of me looked inside her bag & noticed, "I could've sworn I requested for 3 almond croissants but I only received 2" My heart sank. It's not meant to be, a lot like all the plans that we've made for this trip. In any case, it is what it is, the customer explained that it's for her 90 year old mother--who am I to deprive her of an almond croissant? The lady tending to the shop apologized for the misunderstanding & asked if I would care for a plain or chocolate croissant-- it is slim pickins at this time. I opted for the chocolate & hoped it's just as good. They have a few patrons dining indoors, there's a bench outside to enjoy your treats or simply walk around the shops of Hanapepe. Parking is a bit limited but free.

Made sure to get an early start on a Friday back in June to be able to grab something at Midnight Bear to have something to eat while driving up the Waimea canyon. Easy laid back town. Got there before 8:30am to make sure things didn't run out lol. Wasn't busy, so got to look at all the assortment available and went for croissant, almond croissant, choco croissant. And got the famous mac nut cinnamon roll. Was in and out within 4 mins. Put the box of croissants in the car to check out the bridge across the street, but the bag of the mac nut cinnamon roll was still a bit warm, so decided we should try it while fresh. OMG, wow. May have been the best pastry item I've ever had. Wife who doesn't like cinnamon tasted and kid wanted more as soon as piece was in his mouth. It was a race for the 3 of us to attack and devour the poor roll so quick! Should have gotten 3 of them. Almost went back in, but since we had the croissants and still wanted to eat something else before going up the canyon so resisted. Regretted it as soon as we left the place and never got to go back for it... Later up on top of the canyon, wife enjoyed her croissant and of course kid loved his choco. My almond croissant was not quite my style, the inside had quite a bit of filling which I don't care much for/ Either way, that mac nut cinnamon roll is a MUST! If going for it, plan on NOT sharing, since you'll be left with regrets of not having more of it for yourself. We raved about that cinnamon roll so much to my inlaws who were visiting Kauai in August. Not sure what happened but they said they felt kind of looked down on when they went. I don't remember if they even got to try the cinnamon roll or maybe it ran out when they went, but their reaction was more about the customer service on their visit for some reason. I didn't feel any issues on my visit, but then maybe I am just more focused on my list of missions for the day and the mission here is simple, get the mac nut cinnamon rolls, 1 per person minimum!

Egg and bacon breakfast sandwich.

Went for breakfast and coffee. Food was good and coffee was good, however service was very poor. People ahead of us had their order messed up, so it took a while for us to even order. Then upon placing our order, we sat down and watched as a group that was behind us got all of their food before we got ours. We asked where our food was, and it turns out they lost our food ticket and hadn't even bothered to take note us sitting there waiting for our meal. Very nice little baker and is obviously popular but needs some more organized costumer service.

We pre-ordered the day before on a Friday to pick it up around 1pm the next day. We had high hopes as we've seen it on foodie accounts and everything looked yummy. However, when we got there we ate it as soon as we picked it up and it was cold, kinda stale, and dry. I understand we didn't come when it opened so it wasn't totally fresh, but if they offer to have pick up later in the day, they should figure out a way to keep it as fresh as possible. It seems that it was just sitting in the box from the morning. It wasn't bad, but maybe our expectations were just higher. Our favorite was the Mac nut cinnamon roll, the caramel banana chocolate danish, and the kouign amann. Also, we had 2 orders and they lost the other one or something as they had to just refund us for it. Overall, would come again maybe first thing in the morning to try but definitely disappointed for pre-ordering.

Omg! Fresh baked pastries with a tropical twist. I'm not sure I want to publicly admit this but I've had they're lilikoi danish, banana and nutella danish, mango danish, almond croissant... My toxic trait, eating gluten when I'm not suppose to. I don't have my usual gluten reaction, not sure why? I highly suggest trying one of the ones I've had. So good!

This bakery, nestled in the artsy town of Hanapēpē, has some of the best freshly baked croissants, savory danishes, breads, and much more. My favorites are the almond croissants and the caprese danish. Be sure to come early, or else they may run out of the ones you wanted. The servers are super friendly - greeting everyone with warm smiles. The restaurant has some tables, so you can done in and drink one of their coffees or tea, or order to take out. The prices are a little elevated; however, it is worth it to treat yourself every once in a while.

Came here on a random weekday and of course there's a line which is to be expected as they are super popular and even when they go to the farmers market there was also a very long line. There is sometimes street parking and it's free which is very convenient and the front of the building is very unassuming low-key and even more simple and almost rustic when you walk inside as well. The long lines explained itself because as soon as you look at the counter in the shelves with all the baked goods, pastries, and bread, they look incredible and smell fantastic. We ordered one item as we had just eaten breakfast earlier, so this was a snack and each item did not disappoint. We finished both entirely ordered or tried to order another one to go however, they had already sold out during the time that we sat down in the store to eat it. This is a must stop true gem in the neighborhood and if you're lucky enough to have a patience to wait in line find a parking spot and they have your pastry still in stock and not sold out, This is a must visit.!!!!

Was looking for a place to get drinks. They sell sandwich, coffee, teas and baked goods. Not much bread was left in the afternoon. Croissants tasted good.

Midnight Bear is a true gem! Located in the small town of Hanapepe, they serve up delicious baked goods and cafe drinks. The shop is a cute, relaxed ambiance although it gets busy! I loved everything I've ordered there, but hands down, the almond croissants are the BEST! Other favorite include the Caprese Danish and Everything Danish. This is a must stop any time I'm on Kauai! The staff are very friendly as well! Pro tip, go early or make a phone order!

We stopped here on the way to a hike for a snack and it was great. Not too crowded. We got the iced golden milk, americano, salmon and avocado open faced sandwiches. The salmon was delicious-best salmon. Avocado sandwich could have used a little more seasoning but still good

The Croissants are amazing. They taste like croissants I had in Paris. You should definitely check out this Café.

This was a great little find for a restaurant alternative. There isn't any inside dining, but there…read moreis seating in the adjoining outdoor areas. The couple of times we were here was for takeaway meals. We'd take our salad and sandwich on our Hawaiian adventures for lunch. As you can see from my pic, we had the First Class Upgrade sub sandwich. There were plenty of fresh sandwich meats and fresh greens. The house vinaigrette hit the spot with us. The bread held up well on its travels with us. Also pictured, is The Chopped Italian salad. This was packed with plenty of meats and cheeses. The lettuce was fresh and, like the sandwich, the red wine vinaigrette was good. This salad also travelled well for us.

Needed something quick for lunch so we stopped into shipwreck. Didn't tell us how long it would…read moretake until after we had already paid, and they said 20min for two sandwiches!! They better be delicious for waiting 20min and spending $18 per sandwich, but alas. I got "full ham" with smoked ham, pickled onion, romaine, and pineapple relish with the cheese removed. It was good, but definitely not amazing. My wife got "the bird" which was mainly turkey and cranberry cream cheese, and she really enjoyed it. For $18 you should really get chips and/or a drink with it, but I guess they are geared more towards tourists with money. Not sure that I'd return since there are so many options in the complex. There are two lone chairs on opposite sides of the shop and a picnic table outside, but that's pretty much it for options.
