My note I left stated when I was coming to get it (less than 48hrs the truck would be there). had to scramble to find a last minute tow so I wasn't towed somewhere else. I parked it out of the way and NOT in any of their parking spots. there are 2 sections that are like a "drive through" to another lot but there is no other lot if that makes sense. that's where I put it. No construction, not blocking the road or any thing like that. Won't do business with someone who can't give grace to someone who broke down, left a note saying when I was going to get it towed and left my contact info. it's not like it was abandoned with no info given.

To top it off, not only did the cameras fail, but I also found out that they never gave me the information about self insurance, that was supposed to be provided when I rented the unit. As a first-time renter, I had no idea I could get my insurance. The thieves took about $8,000 to $10,000 worth of stuff. If the security was solid and they had told me about insurance, I might have had a chance to recover some of it. It's frustrating that I found out they didn't provide the self insurance brochure at the time I rented the unit, or inform me that my unit was not covered by video. On top of that, I forgot to lock my unit during the chaos of going back and forth to move things into storage. I trusted that IF anything happened their cameras and gated access would help deter a break-in or at least assist in providing proof help out the police. To make matters worse, they acted very nonchalant when we informed about the situation. They didn't even bother to call back when they said they would when they got a chance to look at the cameras (which took a couple of days). The complete lack of professionalism is appalling. Great security too but I had 2 things that popped my perfect bubble last minute. As I'm signing the paperwork I'm told there are gate hours (6a-10p). For me, that's a huge problem. I was told that 24-hr access could be arranged for an additional fee per month & it didn't seem like it was something that was ok. #2 Didn't know till I'd decided to rent that I would pay for the days remaining this month plus next month's rent & a service fee of $5 upfront! 2/3 of everyone's things were GONE…read more Me and 3 other Hendrix students decided to split a unit. We opted for a combination lock so we could get into the unit whenever we wished, independent of each other. We used it from December - August. In December, a couple of days after the unit was in use, there was no lock on the unit. I purchased TWO more for added security, with no help from Downtown Self Storage. One of us visited in May, and both locks were gone, and our bikes were gone. Downtown Self Storage did NOT reimburse us for a lock, and did not give us one of their locks for free. I was very disappointed. The man we talked to was a much older man. I called him up in May after the second break-in, and he put a lock on the unit until August. In August, he said he did not remember when I called in May. He said he was old, and didn't have good memory. As if me or my friends cared -- our stuff was gone, forever. My yoga mat, my lamp shades, my friend's luggage with cash and checks in it, multiple boxes... I gave him two dates, spanning around a month and a half, for him to check the camera footage. He said he would, and get back to me. He never did. I followed up in August, and he said the footage probably would have recorded over itself and he could not find it. Oh, what a helpful man, isn't he? SO, there is no security at Downtown Self Storage. No one checks the security cameras. No one cares about your possessions, and they are not motivated to help you. Try Waller Security Storage instead.
