The recent break-in at my unit, which the security cameras missed because they weren't covering my area, just shows how poorly things are handled here. To top it off, not only did the cameras fail, but I also found out that they never gave me the information about self insurance, that was supposed to be provided when I rented the unit. As a first-time renter, I had no idea I could get my insurance. The thieves took about $8,000 to $10,000 worth of stuff. If the security was solid and they had told me about insurance, I might have had a chance to recover some of it. It's frustrating that I found out they didn't provide the self insurance brochure at the time I rented the unit, or inform me that my unit was not covered by video. On top of that, I forgot to lock my unit during the chaos of going back and forth to move things into storage. I trusted that IF anything happened their cameras and gated access would help deter a break-in or at least assist in providing proof help out the police. To make matters worse, they acted very nonchalant when we informed about the situation. They didn't even bother to call back when they said they would when they got a chance to look at the cameras (which took a couple of days). The complete lack of professionalism is appalling. I'm really disappointed with the lack of security and responsibility at this mini storage place. Great security too but I had 2 things that popped my perfect bubble last minute. As I'm signing the paperwork I'm told there are gate hours (6a-10p). For me, that's a huge problem. I was told that 24-hr access could be arranged for an additional fee per month & it didn't seem like it was something that was ok. #2 Didn't know till I'd decided to rent that I would pay for the days remaining this month plus next month's rent & a service fee of $5 upfront! Working with Red Dot Storage has been an unmitigated disaster. From the moment I booked I've had…read morenothing but trouble. First off, I booked a parking spot and a 10x15 unit. I was told my unit would have a green wire seal and to take it off and move my stuff in. Upon arrival that evening I was given a 5x10 unit that had a lock on it. Of course corporate was closed so no help there. We moved our stuff into a nearby unit with a green seal and called the next day to get it changed. Mind you on arrival the gate was wide open! When I called I was told "I should have called and asked for a code to unlock the red lock...." When customer service was closed... how does that work? I was forced to move all my stuff again and went through about an hour on the phone with someone who couldn't care less. I also tried to upgrade my parking spot to a storage unit. After being on the phone forever, I was finally told I'd be billed x amount extra (which was fine) and to pay it. Upon inspecting the unit there was no way it could be used due to the massive 7 inch step down and I asked to just cancel it. This was almost two weeks ago and I'm still receiving collections emails for an amount I never should have paid for a unit I never even opened... Then I tried to go back one day and the gate wouldn't open. Customer service told me 7 different codes to try, none of which worked... I asked what I should do and was told "We've escalated it but no will will be on site until tomorrow." SERIOUSLY?!? No one here cares, customer service is not a thing and this place is incredibly insecure. The moment I can I'll be moving my stuff out and reporting this company to the BBB. Wow.
