In preparation for an art show, I recently put my original paintings in the capable hands of the folks at Middletown Framing. In addition to having my works framed, I also had prints made up to sell; as an artist, I was thrilled to see that they offer this service. With their huge scanner and printer, and variety of paper types, there are many possibilities. While I was at it, I decided to bring in a damaged antique print to see if there was anything that could be done with it. Dmitri patiently walked me through everything, taking the time to show me my options and make suggestions, all while working within my budget. For customer service, Middletown Framing gets an A+. I was impressed by the selection of frames and mats, ranging from simple to super ornate. Also, this is a small, family run business that supports the community's local art scene, so it makes me happy to help support them. And, the price tag was completely reasonable. I am a photographer and get my photos framed all of the time. They did a decent job, but the thing that really shocked me was the turn around time. It's as if they are the only frame store in Connecticut. In the two months it took them to frame my small photo I was able to get 6 or 7 custom frame jobs from other stores. I think they might just have too much on their plate. read more

In my opinion, this is the best framing shop in the area by far! My husband and I have been here a few times to get major framing jobs done and we have been absolutely thrilled with the final products. The owner Dmitri is incredibly helpful and takes the time to show all types of combinations of frames and mattes. He has a really great eye and always offers suggestions that I'd never think of on my own, so that's really valuable. I was looking to have my wife's master of science degree framed and decided that, based on the time and sacrifices put into this degree, a standard IKEA frame was not going to do it justice. I'm fortunate that we have someone local so I stopped by to get an idea of what my options where and how much the mounting and framing was going to be. Dmitri was great to work with and show me many options to choose from. He patiently spent over a half an hour narrowing helping me narrow down my options until I decided on the final product. I liked the experience so much that I decided not to look at another framer and place the order. I recently surprised my wife with the finished product and she loved everything about it, especially the frame itself. Horrible customer service, rude and disrespectful owner, and horrible framing. I came in to get a drawing framed and when i showed him my art the owner said that it wasn't worth that much money, so he insulted my art before I even got it framed. Then, when i picked up the framed artwork there was a huge scratch on the glass and SO much dirt and dust underneath the glass. The drawing itself was also smudged even though I explicitly told him to be careful not to smudge it. He did such a horrible job I couldn't believe I had paid $250 for such a terrible framing job. Then, when I called him about getting it fixed he was completely unapologetic on the phone and disrespectful of my time, complaining that I was inconveniencing HIM even though it was completely the other way around and he should have just done his job correctly the first time. When I came into the store at a massive inconvenience to myself as I had to walk there and was in the process of packing to move out the next day, he continued to disrespect me and my time, art, and money when I confronted him about this he said that he "didn't have the time to pay me respect" because he had issues with the register with his previous customer which was completely ridiculous. I left the store in tears and I cannot believe how terrible the owner is at his job and at treating people with respect. Get your art framed literally anywhere else. read more

I visited Middletown Framing last week to have the glass replaced on a large picture. The glass on my piece was badly cracked. Before visiting I called several frame shops to get price quotes and this shop had the best quote. I was told over the phone that the quote could change when they saw the piece and that they really don't like to give quotes over the phone so I was prepared for the price to change but I decided to check them out knowing that I could always walk out if I changed my mind. When I took in my piece to get evaluated the gentleman was very friendly and helpfully explained all of my different options regarding types of glass without being pushy or trying to convince me into a more expensive glass just to make more money. He was very knowledgeable and answered all of my questions patiently. The price quote did go up from the quote I originally received on the phone but the reason why was clearly explained to me and the final price was still considerably lower than any of the other frame shops that I had contacted (which was quite a few.) Besides the great price, the best part is that he replaced my glass right on the spot while I waited and even offered me a cup of tea while I waited. I should also note that I visited right before closing time so he probably stayed open late to finish my piece. I was also given a set of new picture hooks to hang my piece which was a really nice touch. Overall I am very pleased with Middletown Framing and would definitely return in the future for my framing needs. I recently was gifted a series of old maps that my grandparents had stowed away for who knows how long. I have always done the cheap standard frames from Kohl's or IKEA or what not but thought these deserved better. As I was new to the professional framing aspect, I was easily overwhelmed by the variety of styles and choices to make. Dmitri was a huge help in picking out what kind of frame, style, matting, and color schemes. The end result of 6 different framed maps of different shadings came out gloriously! He was very careful to make sure they came out the way I wanted and they really came out perfectly as a set. He even came up with a great and interesting way to frame the cover slip so that it had glass on both sides and you can flip the frame over and still read what the back of it says. I have been extremely pleased with the excellent quality of the service throughout. The process of choosing was easy. Dmitri was able to listen to what I wanted, give me professional feedback and offer opinions and options when I was at a loss as well. The end product was exactly as I had hoped it would look. I have since been back to get some more of my own stuff framed and for a family present as well.
