It's very tough to make all your lodgings without wiggle room b/c the fact is--you can't know 100% how to fine tune your itin. until upon arrival. This was the 1st time we traveled by prepaid/non flexible bookings b/c i was warned that i had to. This led to not too much flexbilitiy in our itin, extra back track driving, &2 nights desperate for lodging that was affordable partially due to a host overbooking and not letting me know in advance that she would sell her rooms before letting me know if i might want to extend our stay, etc. As we came when it was "prime" weekend (Columbus long weekend) it compounded to our problem of hunting for a place. After going to B'ton for a quick bite, we were relieved to get out as it seemed the entire town was in b'ton. We ended up finding this place on CL after I contacted 10-12 places that were not affordable to us. This is a simple inn in a small town out of nowhere with a communal kitchen. (big plus for us being able to cook breakfast & dinner--makes u kinda homey esp after many days away from home & most ppl like the kitchen access). It is not in those typical touristy town so if that's what you're looking for, this isn't for you. There is a "general store" across the street, which we didn't get a chance to check out as we had extra food we brought over. It's a very quiet town. There are probably 5 rooms or so, a little sitting area, a long table in the "dining area" and so you would be able to meet some fellow travelers while you eat your meal. In the mornings travellers congregate in the morning to make their coffee, tea, and breakfast so you will have ppl to chat with. They have rooms w/ shared communal bathrooms (sold out) so we got the rooms w/ bathrooms. There are 31 chickens in the backyard and some ducks and so you get to have free range self-cooked eggs in the mornings. The room was a decent size with a queen sized bed. It got to be a cold in early Oct when we were there. No heat but you could ask for extra blankets. Rooms have 2 windows which is nice as I like to get some fresh air and air out the room during my stay.

Philo is just down the road, with breathtaking views at the top; close to Burlington and nightlife. You can even take a short, beautiful ferry ride across to New York State! The suite was spacious and comfortable, with more amenities than we expected, including the biggest draw for us, which was being a pet-friendly Inn! The host, Duker, was friendly and welcoming, extremely helpful with his tips & advice for what to do! His enthusiasm was so addictive in fact, that we ended up extending our stay another night in order to sightsee per his suggestions! Definitely utilize him to see things you'd never know to see otherwise. Highly recommended! I would happily stay here again the next time we visit Vermont!

The Inn at Charlotte is has the perfect location for taking advantage of some really great biking both inland and along Lake Champlain. If you're daring, you can even try to tackle the steep Mt. Breakfast is not to be missed, and I wanted to thank Duker for whipping some wonderful vegetarian meals. The inn is really relaxing to hang out at during the day - plenty of hammocks, chairs and shaded areas to relax. They're also chickens roaming premises, which were pretty entertaining on their own. Hope that we get a chance to stay again!

Like many bars in the area, the beer selection is really fucking good (it's a Heady Topper source). I'm currently in love with Lawson's Sip of Sunshine and they had it on tap so it was going to be hard for me not to enjoy the place after that. When we came in one night and I wanted wine, I was surprised to find that I really liked the white the bartender (who was super nice) poured for me. He didn't have much of a red selection, but the white was so good I'll forgive them. The best part of this bar, though, is the availability of both foosball and darts. There are two dart boards and darts hanging out in the main room but if you want a nicer set you should check with the bartender and be nice- much better quality darts. It appears that they don't do food anymore, but they did have a French bulldog running around at one point which is much better than food. The Hostel is also one of the pickup places for the local free bus which was also super convenient. So even if you aren't staying there or right next door feel free to get your drink on, call the bus driver, and get a free ride home.

Coming from 2 hostels on this side of the US with more influx of guests, I was confused by why there were no signs on how to enter for check-in or a reminder of lobby hours. There was nothing in front saying guests should go to the back to enter but yet there are steps leading to a front door that I later found out is always locked. No instructions on how to locate the lobby in the email either. I stayed in a 8-bed dorm room above the restaurant and check-in office. The room faces the road so you'll hear road noise since the one window is left open for the portable air conditioner. There was another dorm room right behind. Light sleepers will need an earplug. The bathroom was very clean, colorful, and had modern, cute features. Other things to note: - Not sure there is a shuttle (common with other hostels in the region) - Not sure there are lockers - There are bedside lights by every bed and power outlets are on the bottom bunks only. - The dorm room had a ceiling fan and portable air conditioner - There was Body wash in the shower but no shampoo or conditioner. - There are 2 or 3 toilets and 1 shower upstairs in that building. - The kitchen fridge is cute but small in size for the number of beds. - There are 2 living/sitting rooms - There are some board games available - There is a restaurant on-site. - A brew of coffee is made every morning. - There was no stove to cook

They were so loud, with their screaming, yelling and playing their bad 80's heavy metal until 2 in the morning. When I complained. I was told by the owner that it was a class reunion and to "deal with it". I had my 12 year old daughter with me at the time and not one of us slept 10 minutes that night. What a rip off! and to add further insult to injury I had to give these people an extra 25 just to drive my car off the property. Their rationale was that they didnt want "riff raff " coming in and out. Funny they should say that because the "Riff Raff" were the losers staying at the campground that night. The whole camping "experience" cost me well over 40 since they charge 25 just to reserve a site. .....I do have to mention that the owners were pleasant enough to deal with, but my horrible camping experience that night far overshadowed any kind of niceties they exhibited...I would never , ever recommend this campground if you were looking for a quiet relaxing outing. Perfect place for people that drink cheap beer, drive rusty pick up trucks and watch nascar.
