My family of six wanted to stop in for lunch before a wedding in town, so we chose Middle Fork Cafe. Right when we walked in, we realized finding a seat would be challenging. There are very few tables in this small restaurant, so we ended up waiting quite a bit and then had to push two tables together. It didn't matter much since we were still waiting for some of our other family members to arrive, but just know if you have a group larger than 3-4, you'll likely end up waiting at least 30 minutes. The food was overall satisfying. I got the cranberry, turkey, and Brie sandwich with the soup of the day, which happened to be bacon cheeseburger. Both were yummy! At the end, we got sold on the desserts in the window (me and my partner on the chocolate creme pie). They were all good as well! The only thing keeping this place from 5 stars was the service. From the time we entered, we felt like an inconvenience. A party of six shouldn't be too much to handle, but we were apparently too much. We didn't get much attention unless we flagged someone down. Stopped here to refuel after a hilly hike at Sibley SP. This place is totally cute. I had the special tuna melt and my friend had the grown up grilled cheese. We both devoured our meals. So good, melty and cheesy and the bread was so good. Staff was very friendly. If you are in the New London-Spicer area check it out. And try the gorgeous desserts that were in the case. Had a meeting with an old colleague and this spot did just the trick. It was very busy (good sign) and the staff was super friendly (big plus in my world). I had the vegi omelette and a cup of coffee. It got the job done. I will say, the use of canned mushrooms was a big turn off and I would recommend adjusting this. Coffee wasn't bad. I'm sure the espresso is impressive. The locals seem to love the shop. Woot! You won't come for the food and you won't leave hungry. The service here is lacking. We went today for lunch and waited over 15 minutes before even being acknowledged by any of the 3 staff. When our server finally came over she was very passive aggressive about the wait and didn't even apologize. The food is good. We had the pretzel appetizer to start and it was very good. Soft, chewy with a nice crust. Then I had the Cowboy quiche and it was light and yummy. Then a bowl of squash soup. Wonderful. Then we had some boneless chicken , it was good but a tad soft for me. My son had a kids grilled cheese and he liked it. My daughter had a Cesar salad and the lettuce was freshly green and de stemmed. A personal preference. My wife had a sassy Blt and the chicken wild rice. I follows this with a vanilla latte and my wife the hot apple spice both good. Then we had cheese cake, carrot cake , Apple pie, and confetti cake all amazing. read more

Oh, my goodness! This little Cafe was the very best surprise of my roadtrip with my girlfriend. We visited on Monday around 11:30 am for lunch. It was a glorious day and we parked on the street a little bit away from the entrance. We walked into the Cafe and faced the bakery case filled with the most appealing cakes I have ever seen in a small town restaurant. The customer in front of us was ordering coffee-to-go as we waited to be seated. This gave us a chance to see the unique coffee drinks. My friend ordered the Charcoal Latte, and I ordered the Dirty Chai. Both were as good as any drink you would find in one of the top-rated coffee shops I have enjoyed in Minneapolis-St Paul. Next, we ordered lunch. My friend ordered the Grown Up Grilled Cheese with a cup of Chicken Wild Rice soup. She loved it. I ordered the Steak Bites, also offered with a choice of salad or soup for $2 more. I was impressed with the flavors and pepper/onion/mushrooms accompanied with my beef. The Poblano sauce and teriyaki dipping sauces completed the plate. The steak was great, even though a couple pieces were chewy. The soup was so hot, I let it cool while I had the beef. There was a generous amount of chicken in the soup, and I honestly could have just had the soup, it was so delicious and filling. But...dessert! We shared a Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Almond Torte. And, Ta dah! It was the BEST and BIGGEST piece of dessert I've had. I had a tough time finishing half of it. Save room for dessert, or bring a giant piece of cake home. We brought slices of Lemon Cake and Strawberry Milkshake cake home for the guys we left behind. Go, go, go! Really. Maybe, you should RUN over to Middle Fork Cafe. My family and I stopped in for a post-holiday lunch and shopping outing in New London. This restaurant was a true gem! Plenty of gluten free options on the lunch menu, which is a rare find in a small town. Even GF dessert options! The beer choices are plentiful and I had a tasty glass of moscato. This place is simply fantastic. The atmosphere is quiet and comfortable. The staff were so kind to me even offering to heat up an iced coffee since I didn't realize it was a cold drink. I had the Philly cheese steak sandwich which was fresh and hot when delivered. It had a wonderful horseradish sauce on it that I had never tasted on a cheese steak sandwich before. Muy good! What I really like is that you can have a glass of wine here unlike many cafes that just serve coffee, tea, soda and water. There is a microbrewery next door that gets its food from Middle Fork which is nice if you want to sample beer with your dinner.
