When I stopped at this foodcart a sign said this way to the cities best cheeseburger - well let's see: I ordered the deluxe one that comes with all the fittings plus bacon and all their burgers come with two smashed patties (well the jr can set you down to just one Pattie) And I wanted to try their chicken nuggets - just cause I am still on the search for better then McDonalds nuggets haha. Ok then the food came out. There is plenty of space to sit around and consume the food fresh and that is important for a review. Let's talk about the nuggets first. They have been really good and if I would ever end up here again I would order them again. The burger I have to be honest disappointed. I just recently had a monster smash burger and this one was everything like theirs. The patties have been ok and the fitting are ok but nothing special. The bacon was thinly sliced pieces not really crispy and most disappointing was there was one slice of cheese and not much of their smash- sauce. That all lead to an extremely dry burger that wasn't as hot as the one I had at monster. I would not compare a brand to another but they said it's the best cheeseburger in town and so I'll had to compare it. Let me tell you it's a ok burger but by far not the best in town. On the good side as said it is a ok burger (better then any killer burger ever be) and it's extremely fair priced with prices starting at $7! I have to take away one star tho for claiming something you are really far off. It might have even be a different game if you would have had put a second slice of cheese in eternity the two patties. Went right into the burger and flavor didn't hit the buds right away but as time went on flavor kept building into a solid 6.6. Typically, not a crinkle cut kinda guy but i gotta say these were the best KCF's I've ever had which really isn't saying too much but good. Nuggets next and they were a gourmet extra crispy fast-food nugget, would add to order again. Got full and saved the Chicken Burger Deluxe for about 40 minutes later and that was a bad call, still very tasty, but got soggy and wanted it crisp. Eat the chicken first if you go. Stopped in for...a hot dog! At a burger place. It's Portland Mercury Wiener Week. And this was a good one! My favorite of the three I've tried. It included a bit of smashed burger, along with grilled onions, cheese, and some kinda sauce, on the hot dog. Yummy. Oh, and there was a big line, busy day, and I was impressed with how the server (owner?) kept his composure and sense of humor, advised me on how long the wait would be -- rose to the occasion. Good prices. Small menu. Next to Level Beer and can bring the food in or the drinks out of the brewery. Just a good simple smash burger. I got a smashy boi, I just wanted a small quick burger and fries. It was simple but juicy with crispy cold lettuce. Definitely 80/20 or more. The meat wasn't grisly at all. We step up to the cart now located at Level Beer at 2pm on a Saturday and can immediately order. This isn't our first time at MidCity. We tried the smash burgers here when they first opened during the pandemic and were pleasantly surprised. Now MidCity operates a few locations but this one that moved from close by in SE still resonates with me. The prices are reasonable, service friendly and quick. I appreciate the food is made to order here. We wait less than 10 minutes. Mr. James Fries are smothered in nacho cheese and signature sauce. We devour them. Swimming in summertime has made us hungry. The nugs, chicken nuggets with barbecue sauce are very tasty. Deluxe smashburger very tasty, although a little messy. That's to be expected I guess. If you're like us and have a craving for a tasty burger hit up MidCity. You can't go wrong especially if you like to enjoy a burger with a nice brew. read more

I ordered the Smashy Boi and a side of fries, and everything was fantastic. The patty was grilled to perfection, with a beautifully crisp lacing around the edges. Despite how thin it was, the flavor was incredible. The buns were buttery and soft, complementing the patty perfectly. The Smash Sauce was tasty, but I found myself wanting a bit more of it. The fries were on the salty side, but the ranch did a good job of balancing them out. Although this is a food truck, you can sit inside the bar behind it, which is such a thoughtful touch--especially during colder months. Took the family on a Saturday night. Not a busy night, but somehow felt like we were bothering them by ordering an item on their menu: Bag of Burgers. Dude taking our order made it clear with a negative tone that this "item is leaving the menu, ASAP". (I have zero clue why I need to hear/know that). Also, 20% is the lowest tip offered without "customizing" it...awkward situation when the order-taking-dude is cranky. Nonetheless, burgers took about 30min and included both french fry items on their menu. Fries are advertised as "hot at crispy"...they were like French fries from highschool. Soggy, not crispy. Couldn't pick up a French fry from either batch, so mushy they broke when attempting to pick them up. Avoid them. Burger meat is very good, sauce was great....but I had to take 2 bites to get any sauce. Bummer. We were excited to try it after reading a gushing news article about "their story" from New Orleans. Between the interaction at the counter, the mushy fries and then skimping on sauce....we were let down, for sure. Far better products all over town. read more

Gave this truck a try today. Not impressed! There were two operators on board, at 14:50 on Saturday, and no line waiting. Order placed after seven minutes of waiting to be acknowledged, but was told to wait for the buzzer thing in about twenty more minutes. Sat down to wait. After thirty minutes our order came out. One big deluxe burger (two patties) plus fries and one plain burger (two patty) Only American Cheese was offered. Large burger had pickles that were to be removed on the order. Crinkle l-cut fries looked good (but likely arrive to the tuck frozen) and lacked any seasoning. Overall, a nice burger at a high price. It has been compared to McD (I don't know, not a customer of that chain) Setting okay, but only two trucks in place. Some sketchy people including zoned out street person sleeping head down on the covered table. Another homeless person with baggage got a water (at the Mexican food truck) and soon left. $5 a burger? Don't mind if I do... get a couple of them! I'm on the search for all the smash burgers in the area and I had to stop by MidCity after reading all the reviews. I gotta say like others have mentioned they are lightening fast with your order. From the moment we ordered our 4 burgers and fries it was only a bit over 5 min wait. Like we almost waited for a table to open up in that time! Luckily we were able to nab one of the pop up they had since it was raining but you can try to park your car near the truck to enjoy in the comfort of your car. Check the menu as they may have specials - we also tried the fish sandwich and fries. As for the burgers they are nothing too fancy but are a solid meat, cheese, sauce, and bun. Almost slider like you can definitely eat a couple to feel full. They seem to have a hint of bay seasoning on the patties which adds a nice spice. As for the fish sandwich it's pretty plain but reminds me of fish sticks in a sandwich (not in a bad way). It's a nice option if you're not craving meat. Fries are solid as well. Just stopped by for lunch, a Saturday at opening and they already had a line. We ordered a deluxe each with fries to share. It wasn't too long of a wait, even with about 6 or so ahead of us. They make a real smash with fabulous crispy, crunchy edges. The one order of fries was barely enough for both of us...we ate every last one. Their fry sauce is good, a thicker version than many. My only slight complaint was that the fries, while cooked to perfection, were a smidge too salty. The burger had fabulous flavor though. Flavor 10/10 Not the prettiest burger but a very tasty burger. It's all in the sauce. It's always busy here but the wait time isn't bad. I got the vegan boi. It was tasty. I'd recommend adding deluxe toppings (pickles & tomatoes) cause I didn't know it didn't come with veggies. So good though! Patties are thin, so it's not a big deal that it's double patty. It's not like two beyond Patties. My friend got the junior smash boi and she said she'd ask for more cheese. It's a food truck in a beer garden so it's outdoors so on a nice day it's great! First time at this food truck that shares the space with a really good Mexican food truck and brewery. Great outside space with lots of table both in the sun and shade. The truck looked good with no observed issues or hazards. The gentleman in the truck offered my daughters a lollipop while we looked at the menu. We ordered the Deluxie Boi, nuggs with smash sauce, Jr Smashy Boi, and fries. We were given a beeper and found a table. About 10 minutes later the beeper went of and we grabbed our food and sat down. My girls shared the Jr Smashy and nuggs; I had the Deluxie and we all shared the fries. First thing I noticed when I unwrapped the burgers was that there wasn't a puddle of grease and the buns weren't soaked. The burger had really good seasoning and taste. The bacon could have been a little crispier but otherwise it was a solid smash burger. The nuggs were crisp on the outside and juicy/tender on the inside- great! And the smash sauce was a good accompaniment. The fries were good sized and weren't soggy but had a nice crispiness and well seasoned. Since burger styles vary greatly, it's probably prudent to compare ones within a similar category. The ones here are NOT the towering knife and fork kind, and you won't spot any foie gras or peanut butter. In fact, they've carved out a little style niche that few duplicate. Think of them as a big upgrade to White Castle (that was intended as a compliment), maybe in-line with Shake Shack. Canard on NE Burnside offers something similar, an excellent steam burger. The price here is right at $5. While I usually like crinkle fries, there's a faint spice that was off-putting. Moreover, the price point is $.50 to $1 too high given the portion. The service was ultra lightening fast. Parking can be tricky in this neighborhood, but Smash isn't located in a pod, so that helps. The guys were cool. read more

First let me say, they serve Pup Patties! Free for pups! That alone is a 5 Star Rating! ;) Second, the customer service was great. Friendly, tentative, and patient. Third, the food was very high quality! I ordered the Smashy and Deluxie. Seasoned really well. BEST Crinkle Cut Fries in the business! However the burgers were 1 dimensional. The smash burger had no crispy edges, the buns weren't toasted, the pickles no bite; the tomato & lettuce provided no texture/presence, (basically the veg was bland) sauce was mayo heavy, bacon was overshadowed by the seasoned patty. So every bite was one texture and one flavor note. You should be able to taste all the flavors and textures individually, and it should blend cohesively. In my opinion. The burgers 2.5 Star . Their menu is simple, straightforward and has the necessary add ons like bacon, more patties and a variety of extra sauces to add to your burger or to give those tasty, golden, crispy crinkle cut fries an extra kick of flavor. Time for an update. I will continue to support this awesome burger joint. As its probably one of my favorites in town. I wanted to mention that gluten free buns are now $3, which is half as much as the burger itself. I understand that inflation sucks and has caused prices to rise. However, $3 up charge for a bun is a bit painful when the original price of the burger is $6. And if you go with the deluxe boi, you are looking at $12 (including the gluten free bun).
