So when I needed an oil change, I filled out the local store's online form to request an appointment for Tuesday, August 29. The store was closed for the evening, but I got an email that said that they'd respond within thirty "business minutes." They didn't - not even when I sent a follow-up email the next day. So I called in because of a issue at jiffy lube and they wanted me to take it here. Dave answers the phone I told him about the issue and asked do you even work on bmw. He was rude as hell told me to bring it by and tried to tell me what the issue with my oil pan was I tried to tell him that isn't the issue there was no slow leak or any leaks so what your saying is irrelevant cuz it's stripped from it being cranked on to the point it stripped the engine can't keep oil at all in it So he told me in a rude tone to take it to my mechanic and slammed the phone down hanging up on me Note now I only called to make an appointment because jiffy lube wanted them to look at it cuz they trust them lol well maybe not after they hear about this DO NOT USE this place. There was no reason for Dave to be that rude to me as I was just asking simple questions. If Dave isn't afraid to talk to me this way I wonder how he speaks to women that call in. Took our car in to get the brakes fixed. Initially, we were impressed with their speed and service. However, the new(?) brakes have been incredibly squeaky. We took the car back--they said there was no squeak. The car squeaks more, we take it back....again. This time, they hear it, and "fix" it. We're not talking about a little squeak or a wearing in period. The car has been making this sound ever since we took it here (months ago, now), and it's a horrible, very loud squeal. Dave is the GOAT imo, super nice guy and the locals love him. That alone, goes far these days, at least with me. After some horror experiences in the area, this shop is hands down the best. IF YOU ARE A PERSON OF COLOR OR WOMAN READ THIS! DO NOT COME HERE!! The alleged manager Dave Peters was so confrontational and so rude. I wanted Syn Blend and when I came to pick up my car he told me I never said that. Since I was charged for a Full Syn naturally I asked if my tires were rotated . He said I didn't ask for it so no. Even though it's included and my car was there from 12-2:30. Instead of attempting to educate me, his tone was nasty and belittling, his explanation was weak, and he was very offensive in his word choice. When I called to speak to a manager he answer saying he was the manager. He responded to me in a smug tone with" I'm sorry you feel that way" and " if your brother was offended he should have said something to me about it like a man". When I responded saying that wasn't appropriate he began yelling and over talking me so I hung up and called corporate. Him disrespectfully mentioning my brother knowing if the situation went that way he claims it should have the police would have been called on the us (Black People) for matching the level of disrespect is super evil and very much so provoking behavior. The phone call brought me to tears because, all I wanted was an oil change but instead I was met with aggressive customers service. As a woman I should feel comfortable going into a male dominated establishment and conduct business without being talk down too. Nobody should feel provoked and disrespected when going and getting an oil change. I will never spend money Midas Urbana again. read more

NOTE: There is a much longer story with more information that we have shared with corporate but we have not had nay response in 3 months. A catalytic converter died; Midas service desk coordinator was unprofessional and condescending when we took it in, and tried to tell us we couldn't keep the old converter regardless of whether it had a core charge or not; Midas replaced the dead CC and fixed a "cracked exhaust manifold" that they considered the root cause; 3 months later the CC is dead again, and the same unprofessional service desk clerk won't even consider looking at the new CC under warranty despite the replaced part dying in under three months. The manger recommended to us to clear the check engine light and sell the car as is. I'd expect better customer service from a McDonalds over a $3 hamburger than Midas provided for $400 in labor and $1200 in parts - especially when the repair we paid for didn't solve the problem, and then the people responsible for those repairs had the gall to tell us they weren't willing to look at the vehicle to determine whether further work would be covered under warranty or not. If you want to be overcharged for an ineffective repair and condescended to during the entire process, I would heartily recommend the Midas branch at 304 University in Urbana IL. However, if you want an effective repair shop offering basic professionalism, I would recommend literally anywhere else. read more

Discovered I had a nail in my tire today. Called a few places to see if it could be patched quickly and they all said it would be a drop off and MAY be done by 5pm. I randomly called this place and was surprised that the guy said bring it on in! Turned out it was the owner and he got it done in less than 30 mins. And it was cheaper than the other places I called. Hands down the best auto repair place I have ever been. The service was quick and the customer service was excellent! I ran over a nail, what's new? I made an appointment online after store hours and received a response with an appointment time the next morning which is awesome. The staff is attentive and friendly and it only cost me $25.00 to fix my tire. The waiting area is a little tight so I suggest getting a ride home while you wait (if there is a long wait) if you don't do well with small spaces. Overall, I'm very pleased with my service. Ask for Dave, I'm assuming he's the manager here and he's very kind which is appreciated. I admire his customer service skills and will be back if I have any issues. read more

Whoever was answers the phone at the Urbana, Illinois location has the strangest attitude (at least the day I was calling and went in). One minute he attempts to be friendly, the next he's jarringly snarky/condescending. Not the end of the world I figured, maybe he was having an off day. But it became an issue when I inquired further about what they claimed the problem with my car was (the battery), asking if they found anything wrong with something else I previously expressed concern about (my alternator). The reply I got was along the lines of "... did I say anything about the alternator?". He actually waited for a reply, so after a few moments of awkward silence I answered "no", thinking maybe he was asking genuinely. His immediate response: "then there's nothing wrong with the alternator." Alrighty. Paid for the new battery. About a week later the battery light came back on. I probably would've called back and asked them to revisit the problem if not for that guy. Same day service though, so that's nice! read more

Nice guys. I don't know much about cars, but I didn't feel like I was getting ripped off. I came in to see if they would check out my flat tire. I came in prepared to pay money for a new tire and they could have easily lied to me and told me that I needed my tire replaced. Instead, they took out a nail in my tire and sent me on my merry way. I came here a second time to get some engine repairs and they did a great job of it. They even offered to give me rides to places due to my car being in the shop for a couple of days. Great stuff. Also, I had this same exact problem and went to another place called KCM; KCM charged me $20 whereas Midas charged me nothing. Pretty cool guys right here. I will say that their labor prices are a bit sketchy. On their price board, it says $90 per hour. But when I got my invoice, it said that they charged $90 per part they replaced. Hmmm. read more

Went in for oil change and have a check engine diagnosed. Went back to pick up the car. $2900 estimate to replace catalytic converter and replace brakes, that had just been replaced less than a month previous. Had to wait for the oil change. A can of seafoam cleared the error code. read more

Totally scam, my car can't drive anymore right after(same day) they replaced with "new" braking pads and rotors, took it back to the store, then one of them said it had no problem and put all parts back without doing anything, the other guy suggested to replace calibers on the side that previously worked perfect before they made the repair. Don't even try to go there, they charged far more than other places and services are worse. read more

On Friday 1/27/2017, I was in a tough situation - I had been working in Urbana for the week, but needed to drive back to Chicago that day. My car was making a churning noise every time I breaked, so I took it in to see what the problem was. They told me I needed basically everything on my breaks and it would be $910. I just got my breaks fixed a year and a half ago, and I knew $910 was outrageous for breaks. But I figured Midas was a nation wide reputable company so I got it done. My car immediately made the same noise when I got it back, so I took it back and they admitted they misdiagnosed it and it was actually the ABS system. So he said he do it for free, but I insisted on him returning the difference In the money. He ended up doing $130 worth of work on the ABS, but wouldnt compensate the difference for the money I spent on the misdiagnosed breaks. Currently beginning the process of litigation. And by coincidence, while we were arguing, another customer came in and began to scream at the owner for writing him a bad check and giving him the run around and called the police on him. This guy is a total scammer. DO NOT GO THERE. read more

I've been here a few times and had very quick, reliable and affordable service. The last time I went was after moving to Chicago, where my dealership suggested that I get $2k worth of repairs for a fairly new car. I was in Champaign and showed my car at Midas - Atta & Co. took a look at it and crossed out most of the items because they were in good enough shape, and fixed the rest. They did not fix anything without calling me and giving me the cost breakdown first, and when I showed up at the shop they showed me the old parts and why they needed to be changed. I brought my car in because the brake lights were not coming on because of a wiring issue. I waited an hour before they even looked at the car. Then five minutes later they told me it was not the bulb (which I already knew) and that I would have to come back another day for them to look at the car again and find the wiring problem. I asked him how long this would take and he said one or two hours. This was 5 pm and they close at 7 pm so why it could not be done that day is beyond me. Today my husband opened the trunk to put away groceries and found that the plastic that covers the trunk lock latch had been broken off and that after they looked at the bulbs they did not bother to put back the carpet or reattach the net across the back of the trunk. This is a laziness and unprofessionalism I cannot believe. I've never had a car place BREAK parts of my car before. Our only other experience with them was waiting for an hour for an oil change so we will never go back there ever again. I would hate to give them the opportunity to do any real damage to my car! read more

I've had 3 oil changes here now over the past 9 months, and Atta (the owner) and his crew are fast, honest and knowledgeable. His prices for service are reasonable and fair. Today, on a Saturday at 2pm, Atta had me in and out in 30 minutes for an oil change and tire rotation. He even threw in a diagnostic for a front end noise I'm having, which turns out to be sway bar links that need replacing at a later date. I'll be going back to Atta for this, and all my other car needs. Atta is very friendly and personable, and I always enjoy chatting with him before and after my service. He always walks me to my car, makes sure I'm satisfied, compliments me on my car and asks how my family is doing. Many people find going to the mechanic intimidating, and fear that they will get taken advantage of. Atta put me at ease from when I first met him, and now he treats me like a friend every time I go to his Midas shop for service. Today as he was walking me to my car to install my next oil change sticker, he pointed out one car he's been servicing since it was new - a Chevy Tahoe - that now has 390,000 miles on it. Longevity in vehicles like that comes from honest repair shops like Atta's Midas and regularly scheduled maintenance - oil changes every 3,000 miles and repairs as needed. He also pointed out a gorgeous 1970's Chevy Malibu that is lovingly restored and is owned by another customer of Atta's that's been coming to him for 18 years, and has spent a lot of money on regular service and repairs with Atta during that time. Atta truly appreciates his customers and takes good care of them. If you're looking for a fair, honest, caring, straightforward, quick and knowledgeable auto service shop in Champaign/Urbana, you won't find any better than Atta's Midas. I won't go anywhere else!
