He explained the checks that needed to be performed, in order to diagnose, and determine what repairs to be done. He told me he would call to inform me of what repairs had to be done, and approximately how much. Kevin then arranged for a ride to my residence, with no wait. He called me about an hour later, and informed me what repairs needed to be done, and how long to perform them, and said the vehicle would be ready by closing, all he needed was my go ahead. They gave me a free brake inspection due to some concerns I had, had me come out in the bay to show me a few things and quoted me for everything along the way. I made an appointment online and they even took my car in early. They were very professional and centered on customer service. I'll be stopping back before I leave Monterey to get brake service. The only reason we ever went to Midas was because you could book an appt for the next day. With our golf we went in for an oil change and they slapped us with $500 worth of suggested repairs (when we had already had taken it in somewhere else and it was fine). I also heard from other people that they did the same thing to them. This story is the one that got me. We now have a new car. I found a nail in the front left tire before going out of town so we decided to just replace both of the front tires all together because they were the oldest tires on the car. Come to find out, after driving 3 hours to Sacramento, they didn't even replace the tires I asked to change. So I drove with a nail in my tire the whole way. Now here is where it gets worse (in my opinion). I drove back after getting my tire repaired, went into Midas and told them that they changed the wrong tire, and the guy at the front desk had the audacity to tell me "no, those tires are brand new, we didn't change the wrong tires." UMMMM I'm pretty sure when we made the appointment it was specifically for an alignment and to get the two FRONT tires changed because of the nail, which I mentioned like 3 times when I dropped it off. He made me go get proof that the tires they took off were new and when I did he was saying the tread was worn and they had to be replaced. Which is totally fine, I understand they may have needed to be replaced, but they weren't the tires I asked to be replaced. No matter how many times I said that they did NOT do what I asked them to do, he was pushing back saying the same thing. Honestly, I just do not think that is how you should treat customers. I trusted them with my car and to make sure it was safe to drive and they failed. Owner was nice and did reimburse us for the tires and let us keep them, but he should probably check in on them more and make sure they are treating customers with respect. I've seen the same guy I talked to at the front desk do the same thing to a poor man who was having a hard time communicating because he had a thick accent. All in all I will never go back to that specific Midas. I will probably mention it to corporate because it was very ridiculous. I know that the customers aren't always right, but in this case I was and had everything to show for it, yet they still tried telling me I was wrong. Maybe it was because I was a woman and they didn't think I knew what I was talking about? That's what it seemed like. Yeah I'll play the sexist card, I don't care. read more

I will not be going back to this place for several reasons! 1. Took my car there several months ago for an oil change that included a tire rotation. Got home and realized they didn't rotate my tires even though I paid for it. Decided to let it slide and mention it the next time I went in for an oil change. (More on this later!) 2. Went in last week for an oil change (scheduled appointment). I mentioned the tire rotation and they assured me they'd take care of it. I also asked them to check the air filter and to replace it if needed. They gave me an estimate sheet and I signed it. I was told my car would be ready in about an hour and a half. Yeah, right.... My car was not ready when I came back 2 hours later. Finally 3 hours it was ready. As the guy (different from the one that I spoke to on arrival) was checking me out he said the air filter was ok and they'd change it next time. I said "Oh good!" He paused and then said he'd better check on that. I waited a moment and then followed him outside. He and another guy were discussing it. Suspicious, I asked to see the old one. It had a couple of bug wings on it and it was pure white! They put a new one on even though it didn't need it. The "Store Manager" walked up and tried his best to convince me, saying it was dirty, can't you see the bugs? My father and brothers were mechanics and I know what a dirty air filter looks like. I asked to see the new one to compare the two. The only difference was a greasy finger print on the new one! He then said I told him to change it whether it needed it or not! WHY would I do that? Spend $40 for something I don't need? When I told him to put the old one back on, he backed down and didn't charge me for the new one. Then he told me they didn't rotate my tires because the lock for my lug nuts was broken. It wasn't broken prior to going there! They broke it but didn't own up to it. Then he wanted to charge me $15.99 per lug nut for a total of $63.96, regular lug nuts, not locking ones. A set of 4 costs $6.00 at JC Whitney! Still didn't get my tires rotated so I've paid for it twice. read more

Terrible Service! I made an appointment for a simple oil change, but had to wait 2+ hours! The oil change is pricier than other local businesses and they tried to make me pay $80 of labor for a missing nut. Funny thing is when I adamantly refused, the cashier said I didn't even need it. WT* This is my first time writing a review on Yelp and the only reason I am writing this is for the protection of anyone looking for an oilchange. Midas has lost my trust and I hope to never come here again. And if you have been coming to Midas for the oil change discount, IT'S NOT WORTH IT. They will try to make you pay extra for anything they think needs work and write it on the bill, so double check what you're paying for. I can go on about the poor service, but frankly this Midas has already taken too much of my time. read more

I have never regretting going to a place so much in my life. If I could give this place negative stars, I would. First off, I made my appointment the get my oil changed over the phone, the man told me "9 am on Sunday". When I show up at 8:55 am for my appointment, I was told that it would be a few hours because they were taking walk ins....When I was officially being checked in, my name was not on the schedule. The man who I made the appointment with was standing right there and told the man checking me in "oh yes I remember making her appointment yesterday, I must have forgot to put it in the schedule." I asked them to check my brakes as well. When they finished they told me my brakes were fine but that my rear shocks were leaking. I took my car to another trusted auto repair shop for a second opinion on my shocks, and was told my shocks weren't leaking. Fast forward to 4 weeks later and my brakes are at the point of metal on metal, and so now not only do I need new brakes, but also need new rotors as well. At this point I'm wondering if they even changed my oil or just pocketed the money read more

Two trips to the shop turns in to three trips pretty quick. Initial job was to have an alignment completed. Robert and Kelvin are good guys but not sure whats going on beyond that. The alignment was worse than when we brought it in. Experienced heavy vibrations and a strong pull to the right at highway speeds. Trip two alleviated the vibes and the right pull but THEY LOST MY KEY?! How is that even possible? Turns out they think a mechanic walked off with it. Apparently he decided to quit too. Fantastic. Now there's a disgruntled former employee walking around with a key to our car. This should work out really good. Replacement cost? $350 at the dealership. So WE have to go to the dealership, buy the key ourselves, and hope that they repay us. Oh yeah, that'll be our third trip to, hopefully, pick up a check. Always nice to know that we now have to worry about our own security and bank on "hope". Thanks Midas! read more

We were on vacation in Pacific Grove and Monterey. I got a flat tire at 3:00pm on a Sunday leaving us with almost no repair options until the next day. Everyone I called said that their queue of customers was full and that they couldn't help us until Monday. We filled the tire with air at the closest gas station and limped in to Midas on 1543 Del Monte. We were greeted by Armando who was very concerned about two women being stranded. Even though all of their technicians were very busy, Armando managed to get our car serviced for us. Midas didn't have our size tire in stock, so Armando made sure that they rotated one of the good back tires to the front right and put the donut on the back tire. He was concerned about our safety driving home and gave us instructions on how to drive back with the donut. I was very impressed and so thankful for the excellent customer service that we received from Armando and the technician who performed the servicing on our car. Thank you so much. I would strongly recommend going somewhere else! This company is not honest. I've been twice and both time they have tried to sell me over $1000 in part and services the car has not needed. The first time in January 2012, they told me 3 time I needed new spark plugs. Each time I asked why and they said because they weren't working correctly. But when I told them I had just changed them at Midas in Berkeley. Each time they claimed that no they were fine. The second incident happened on 4/17/2012, I replaced my tires in Sacramento and was told I would need new back brake pads in the next 10k miles. I also was told aby a dealer that I would rear brake pads replaced in about 10k miles. So around 5k miles I took the car to Midias Seaside and they tell me I need to replace both the front and back pad and rotors. They even gave me the "readings". I took the car to another place, I told them I needed new brakes, but no specifics, I was told I only need rear brake pads. I have the measurements from Midas and the other company and it is embarrassing the numbers are so far apart. read more

I joined Yelp just to post this review! Don't take your car here! I took my car here for a simple oil change, enticed by the tire rotation too. (they never rotated the tires - can't remember the excuse but judging by the other reviews this seems to be a common theme) They gave me a ride home in a car that had a broken seat belt, that I had to move trash from the seat to sit in it, and blasting music pumping through the speakers so I couldn't communicate with the driver. After waiting around for a long time, they called to say my car was ready...this was an hour before they were due to close. When I got there, they had actually lost my car key. For the first time in my life for some reason I had taken a spare with me that morning, but was angry at the thought that my car key was just floating around not knowing who might have it, that I pretended I didn't have a spare, and asked what they were going to do about it. I wasn't offered a ride home, or a taxi...they were really just concerned about themselves getting off work in time, and didn't care that a female would be stranded miles away from home. They said if it hadn't turned up by tomorrow they would get a locksmith to come out. When I told them that I had to use the car for work in the morning, and how about getting a locksmith now, they refused because of the out of hours cost they would incur from the locksmith. My key turned up 4 days later after me having to call them and pester them every few hours. I would never go back to this place, and I strongly recommend that you don't go here either!!! read more

This is an outstanding store. We where on a trip and our down pipe colector flange broke. Normally you would need to replace the down pipe to the cat. The guy was able to weld it back in place and have us back on the road in less then 2 hours. Very nice clean shop. Great place in every way!! read more

These guys are either incompetent or dishonest, not sure which. Went in to get a suspension check, knowing there was something wrong but not sure what. They came back with an estimate of $1800 including the entire steering rack, shocks, ball joint and sway bar links. The steering seemed off to me so i asked to see it, it was obvious that it was not the rack but instead the tie rod. After asking a single question suddenly my quote dropped by nearly $700. Needless to say i was a bit wary about that so i have in and took it to the dealer for a second opinion. They confirmed the ball joints and sway bar but said it was definitely not the rack and my struts were fine. Pretty sad when a dealer estimate comes in at less than half of what these guys claimed. Needed $300 worth of work, not $1800. read more

I have taken all my cars (5ea) there for everything from water pump in Intrepid to power steering problems in BMW. They are very good at what they do and I recommend them to my friends. However, they are not specialists in every make and model so there are some things better left to those that work exclusively on some high end models. The managers have always been honest with me and I have never been quoted a needed repair that was not needed. They also warranty their work so you can rest assured it is either fixed or refunded. I went there to change my honda accord's oil today and after one hour they told me that they can inspect the brakes for me without cost. I went there and he showed me that my pads need to replaced. I told him I don't want to replace it now. I came back home and tried to search and find the honda accord brake pads price and service. I couldn't find any pads with those price. Finally I search according to the part number (105.07870 and 105.13360) and I find exact part from this site : http://clarksdiscount.com I search my car name and model and at final page again I keep Ctr+F and type the part number ... unbelievable, exactly the same name and part number, but the price was 3 times cheaper. Mr. Berry is a champ! I was visiting my in-laws over Easter Weekend and it just happened to correspond with a track day at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca! Good times. Although my brakes went south during the first day of the two day event and at around 5 in the evening I was scrambling to find rotors so I could drive the next day. We called everyone!!! And then my friend at the track called Midas and asked if there was any room to have my rotors turned. They said there were 12 people ahead of me and one of the two service writers was on holiday but they'd give it a shot. Vincent Berry, the service writer behind the counter, was slammed! When I go there, they were all clipping away at getting all the cars done for Easter Holiday. Vincent Berry was swamped with a line of people, not to mention phone calls and inquiries from his various employees. And a foreign family from who spoke very little English and needed special attention trying to find rims for their rental car. He handled it all with great deal of patience considering the number of directions he was being pulled. Within about 15 minutes, he had someone to look at my car. They agreed to turn the rotors, and even stayed late to finish it. I was back on the road in an hour and thanks to a great attitude and good old human kindness, I got to enjoy my second day on the track!!!! Thank you Mr. Berry!! I live in Napa, and when my son (who lives and goes to school in Monterey) had his truck blow an engine, Vince and Robert were there to help. They worked with us to source an engine and communicated with us every step of the way. When we had to take the truck back for some misfires a few days later, Kelvin pulled the ignition coils off of our old engine and replaced the bad ones at no charge! They really went above and beyond! Can't recommend them enough. read more

I've been to this place twice to get my oil changes (I had a coupon from Safeway). The first time was fine. They're very friendly. However, the second time I went in, they "suggested" that I have lots of additional work done, including new struts, tires, etc. I took the car to a local garage (Greg Bean Auto in Pacific Grove, in case you're interested), and they told me that I don't need new tires at this point (but will in a few months), and I don't need new struts... I felt like Midas was trying to rip me off because I am an knowledgeable female. Sad.... Like I said, they are very friendly, and if you are just going for oil change, this might be the place for you... but if you want an 'honest' garage, don't go to this one. read more

One star is generous- At an 8:30am appointment, I requested an oil change and brake pad replacement. They tell me the car will be ready in "a couple hours". After waiting 3 hours for a phone call about my oil change and brake inspection (which I thought I requested to simply replace the pads), they informed me they needed an additional half hour to give me a final estimate. Final estimate, $887? After spewing a bunch of confusing nonsense, which seems to be meant to scare me into agreeing to work that was unnecessary, I asked (again) for just an oil change and replacement pads. Since they said the oil change was complete, and I know brake pads are about a 15-20 minute job, to my chagrin, the man said it would be another! 2 hours!! 2 hours later, I call again, and someone cheerfully notifies me that my car is waiting. I let them know I've been waiting, and they say, well, the courtesy driver is busy, sooooo...... Then, 15 minutes later, someone else calls to let me know my car is done! Oh really? Nice people, terrible service, don't go unless you're prepared to have your day wasted. read more

I took my car into Midas for an oil change and they discovered an oil leak, as displeasing as it was to hear the cost of the repairs, Vincent worked with me to try to get me the best deal through coupons, etc. They repaired a large portion of the issue the same day and ran a dye test to indicate if it was leaking from any other area. The following week, I brought my vehicle back in to see the results from the dye test and they had found that there was also an oil leak from another area that needed to be fixed. I had to drive/move across the country the next day so not only did I need to get this work done asap, I needed my car to be 100% before I started my move. Once I expressed this concern with them, Kelvin and Vincent did their best to accommodate my needs and get my vehicle fixed before I needed to leave Monterey the following day. When my Vanagon had a generator belt break on a Saturday, I thought I was sunk until Monday. However, a gas attendant recommended I get towed to Midas in Seaside. They took my van right away, but said it would be best to leave it over night. After a short wait, their clean shinny shuttle had me on my way home(a 25 minute drive). Their driver Brenden, was the best shuttle driver I've ever driven with. Gold star safe. They told me I could get my own parts, but I didn't have time. I was picked up and shuttled back from home(no charge) the next day. The 2 belts I needed replacing seemed exceptionally over-priced, but they had told me I could bring in my own, so I didn't make too much fuss. However, when I was contacted by the company to give my opinion about my experience, I did complain about the belts costing well more than double what my van shop charges, the owner agreed to reduce my bill, and significantly. He quickly credited my credit card. I was impressed and appreciative. They really wanted me to be a happy customer. I am. Be sure to compare parts costs before getting work done, so you can bring in your own if it will save you $$$. That's true for any shop. read more

HORRIBLE....STAY AWAY! Took my car in for brake & oil change at 9 AM. Car "fixed" at 4:30pm & I was told shuttle would pick me up. I was picked up at 5pm & after spending 1 hour riding around PB (the shuttle driver was lost picking up another customer & I was trapping in the van on way to pick up my car ) I paid my bill got into my car & see the check engine light on. This is @ 6pm on Sat. Instead of arranging to fix on spot Robert Baeza tells me to bring back in "tomorrow". I did some research & suspect the tech forgot to reconnect the air hose as the cause of my check engine light being on. Simple fix but lazy, sloppy work. Instead of being apologetic when I complained & tried to schedule them to reconnect the hose they left disconnected he told me to call customer service. Are you kidding me? If a mechanic makes a mistake like that what else is done sloppily? I'm going to take it to a reputable mechanic rather than this hack. NEVER AGAIN bad work, bad service, horrid customer service STAY AWAY!!! read more

I live in the LA area and when visiting my daughter in Pacific Grove I got a slow leak. It was Sunday so Midas was the only place open (boy do they roll the sidewalks up on Sunday in this area!). There was a long cue of other cars waiting for repairs ahead of me given there not many choices of repair shops open on Sunday. Anyway, I got my tire fixed but they broke my tire pressure gage. Yeah, I should be pissed but: 1) they were honest about what happened and told me up front. and said they repair it at no cost (as they should). There are some shady repair shops around and the fact they told me right off the top AND said they buy a new one and fix it for me for free impressed me. Since I was leaving the next day they told me to give another Midas his card (with a note to call him to verify they will pay for the repairs) and they should fix it. Instead of staying an extra day, I left on Monday and took it to a Midas in my home area. They called the owner "Charly" who said yeah, they would pay for it. And I got this replaced with no problems. Yeah, I know, they should not of broken it in the first place, but sh**t happens and I'm happy they didn't try and screw me over as sooo many other repair shops have done to me in the past. read more
