I had an appointment to have a state inspection on my SUV for Monday. I dropped the vehicle off on Sunday afternoon since I had another appointment early on Monday and could not drop it off then. At 5:45 on Monday evening I had not heard any news about my vehicle. I called and was told that it was in the bay and that they were behind. I asked about closing time since the website showed that they would close in 15 minutes. I was assured that they would complete the inspection and oil change before closing. I asked what if there is a repair needed to pass inspection. I was told that if that was the case, then it would be finished. So this is service? By seeing all the reviews from people that walk in without appointments, it seems that if you have an appointment, that means your vehicle isn't worked on until the end of day and tough luck if it inconveniences you. They took care of someone else. So much for making an appointment. Update: My SUV did get finished since no work was required for the inspection. They did stay and wait for me to come and pick it up after hours. I am changing my rating to 3 stars, but not higher. They need to do a better job communicating with customers. read more

I've taken a vehicle or two to Midas Short Pump for oil changes and thought that taking one there for a state inspection would be fine. The technician contacted me saying that the bushings in the control arms were "torn" and needed to be replaced for $1,000, parts and labor for it to pass inspection. Given that the car had no issues previously in this area, I was surprised to say the least. I took it to another mechanic for the repair and three mechanics in that shop found no issue with the part that the Midas technician found to be "torn." The car passed state inspection there, no problem. I appreciate what Midas does for the community with the blood and food drives and such, but really question them when something like this happens. read more

Go here if you want to get ripped off. I went here for the state inspection, there is a phone stand I installed on the dashboard, the technician told me it's $30 to remove the phone stand, which it only takes like 20 seconds and zero effort to do. A 5 year old could do it. He also told me to do other services but I denied all; I can already assume how much more they charge for people for the same services you can get from elsewhere. As I discussed this with coworkers, I was told by one that they were also ripped off. They paid 500 dollars for brake pad to be replaced and were told that was with a discount, only to have their brakes start acting all kinds of odd afterwards. They now have to fix what Midas "fixed" and of course now the same issue is now 500 plus. read more

Came in to get my tires balanced and rotated, pretty quick on the fix. Only took about 35 minutes. The mechanic cleared me and told me all was good except for a small shake in the car, which it has always had considering my suspension is shot. As I'm driving home my car starts to death wobble. Next day I call them and the mechanic told me that the wobble has nothing to do with the tires and they offered a fix for me. But that has nothing to do with a death wobble they claimed they fixed. They totally disregarded the fact that I said one of my tires is missing weights. Will not come back here. read more

This Midas shop really saved my day and they did it without batting an eye. was traveling down to Richmond from Washington DC when halfway through the trip my low tire pressure light came on. It was getting late and conditions weren't great. The low pressure light eventually turned into a warning telling me to fill my tire now and I could feel the car handling starting to degrade. I was able to fill up and get to my destination bit I wouldn't be able to get home without a repair. I went to the midas tire repair shop at around 9am with a hard deadline to be out the door by 11 for an appointment I could not be late for. After explaining my problem the woman at the register continued to ask questions to narrow down the problem. She was very friendly and did all she could to try to help a stranded motorist out and work with my schedule. The manager also let me know she would assist as best as she could. They took my car in almost immediately and patched my tire in under an hour. All of this for less than 40 bucks! Heather and the team are wonderful read more

These folks are the mechanic/repair shop that we all dream of having. They are friendly, keep good records on my vehicle and my past visits, and let me know when critical checkups are due on the car, and then take care of them with my permission (I always give them the OK). Their master mechanic who I believe oversees the shop, Matthew, does an excellent job monitoring repair jobs, as well as getting with me out in the garage to examine the car together when there is a critical problem evolving. They are honest, and open with me about costs and timeframes to get a job done. Several times when I have a lengthy repair, they have a whole fleet of loaner cars that I can use to get around in the meantime. A separate thing I like about them is their community oriented philosophy, with the FeedMore food cooperative. It makes me feel good each time when I come in, to bring along a bag of canned goods that they collect and send to the food bank. Often they provide inspection discounts when you bring in food to donate. A great business, and great people! read more

One of the worst place I've been to. Customer service in front has an attitude. Mechanics are crooks trying to ri you. They quoted a job for State inspection $400. I got same job done for $250 elsewhere. So it was nice that the owner wrote me back. But this is after the owner wrote me back; for example I went there for oil check I was told it's $45 so I agreed then it comes out to 65$ with all the other fees associated with that oil changed. I was also told that the next oil will be free but I got a coupon for free state inspection instead, after driving home, when I called the front girl just says I must of given you wrong one, come back to the store and hung up the phone in one brief sentence. I mean hung up on me, didn't even wait for me to say anything else. I had to drive back there wasted my time to pick up the right coupon. read more

State Inspection I called ahead around 2:00 pm on a Sunday and they were able to fit me in. It took about 1 hr, I got my certification, and they told me that I can donate to the Food Bank and save 6 dollars. That's awesome! I'd be willing to try this place for other servicing. read more

I called on Saturday, asking if I could wait without an appointment for an inspection. As if that was unheard of, the woman on the phone was curt and did not offer to schedule an appointment. I asked and did so for the following day (first mistake?!). During the inspection, the bolt broke while they were replacing my plates. I was informed it broke, but had to ask about replacement and cost. $54 for half an hour of labor. When I walked to the car to bring a replacement wiper (passenger side was broken evidently), I noticed the car had been brought in the shop without use of a covering for the floor mats. Picky, yes. Bothersome, still yes. The gentleman who came in behind me had a 09 Honda and was asked about premium oil. When the man was confused, the sales guy went into why he would want premium oil instead of simply telling him that if he didn't have it at this point, he probably doesn't have/need/want it. Sounded more like a sales pitch than an explanation. When it was time to pay, I was given a total and asked for my debit card; no receipt. After handing over my card, I hesitated at the math and asked for a receipt. "You'll get one" I was told. When I explained the numbers didn't add up, a receipt was printed. The $54 broken bolt was now $67. He insisted he told me half hour labor; I said I knew, and that was quoted $54. He ignored me a moment and then told me to go, the keys were in the car; he'd appreciate a 10-spot in the donation for the Food Bank since their coworker is the coordinator and they are donating $10 per inspection to the foodbank. I told him I had no problem paying for my services, just at the price he quoted me. His demeanor all but said 'just leave'. All in all, just a weird experience. For a $10 donation to the foodbank, I guess I can't complain. read more

I explained that we were a 1 car family and I couldn't do that. She offered to give us a loaner car, (Not something normally done for just an inspection). Like I said, above & beyond. It was a casual Monday morning. There was a 2 hour delay in the school I teach at! I was leaving my house and see there is a nail in my tire and I cannot drive on it. I call for a tower to come BUT it takes 2 hours and then they put my spare in and I drive to Midas! Midas was kind enough to see me when their schedule was jam packed! This particular Midas is not the closest to me, there are many other repair shops nearby but I will go back to this one. How could I not? I dropped my vehicle off for an intermittent problem with engine 'stumbling'. I had previously taken my vehicle to another business for the same issue and paid for diagnostics. They could not pinpoint the problem and recommended I go to the brand dealer. I opted to try Midas. Drove home in the loaner car, spotlessly clean. The Midas mechanics did a lot of testing but they too were not able to pin down the exact problem. They too suggest I take it to the dealer. When I went back to pick up my vehicle, I was told NO CHARGE. What? In this day and age? Truly, MY Midas. read more

Just got my Brake Rotors and pads replaced from here. The service was good but just looked up the part costs for the exact part number they entered in my bill, and it is triple what it says online. They charged me $300 for a set of two rotors when online it is $120 and around $120 for pads when it says around $70 for the same part number online. I can understand that the labor costs can run high and the store needs to make up additional money for running the business but adding such a premium for parts is unreasonable in my opinion. At least don't mark up the prices so much on the bill. I hate giving a bad review to businesses as I know how much it can potentially hurt them, however, I feel this time it is justified. This is a fair warning for other potential patrons that be on the lookout if you decide to go here. I used to feel this place was priced but reasonable however, this felt like a complete rip off. They graciously loaned us a car to get us to a hotel that we had to book in a hurry (we were on route to NY). I have been to Midas twice at Short Pump, VA location. At both the times, my experience with Midas was worth a ZERO STAR. For the first time, I went to Midas for State inspection on 5/2018. After the inspection, I went to pick the car and was disappointed by a broken door handle on the driver side.a After speaking with Midas rep, they had to keep my car for over the weekend and were able to fix the door handle on Monday. For the second time, I went to Midas for Oil Change on 9/2/2018. After the oil change, I was driving to get grocery when I started smelling burning Oil. Upon pulling over, I found that Midas Technician had forgotten to put back the Oil cap. The oil was everywhere on the engine and on the hood. I called Midas ASAP. They asked me to call the towing company and told me that they were sending a loaner car to pick me up. They also told me that they cannot send the Technician offsite since they were not insured for it. I went to Midas on a loaner car to drop the Key and on my way back I was astonished to see that Midas Technician was working on my car in Kroger parking lot where I had left it. Upon Inquiring with tow company, I was told that Midas had called and canceled​ the tow. I got call back from Midas after 2 hrs that issue is resolved. For a simple OIL change, Midas wasted 5 hrs of my time, gave me stress and messed up my car. They didn't have the courtesy to be upfront with me. read more

I've taken our vehicles to Midas for years, and I've always felt that they've been honest and fair. If they recommend something I'm not sure is necessary, I've declined and they just print out the service/cost, which I research and decide on later. They're usually pretty busy, so it's not always easy to get in, but they've helped me out on more than one occasion. Only good for state inspections, and even then they will try to upsell you about $100 more worth of useless crap. These guys are complete scam artists, which is a shame, because it's only recently I've noticed. They used to be great, I guess they got a new batch of mechanics or someone is late on his rent. Screwed my girlfriend out of a few hundred because 'clay buildup on your wheel bearing will cause your wheel to come off, probably within the next week.' Scared her enough to actually believe it and get it done, while they had her car they called her and said the same about the rear wheel bearing. On a car with 40k miles? Please. I only wish she had called me about it first. Biggest crooks in the industry. Shame on you, Midas. read more

After going to Midas for an inspection sticker, some people told me not to go there, and now I know why! You could take a brand new car in there, and they would 'suggest' a list of repairs. They are unbelievable! Mark, the owner, does alot for the community, I first went there as part of a blood drive, and I guess he can afford to do the charity work after gauging full paying clients for simple car repairs. I'm no veteran when it comes to auto shops but the service at Midas was definitely one of best I've ever experienced. I walked in today, a random Sunday, with no appointment and was able to get my car inspected in under 30 minutes. I expected to pay about 16 dollars however I was offered the option to donate 10 dollars to the food bank instead! I left feeling great about the super friendly staff, about my donation and the fact that I had the rest of the day to run my other errands. read more

Went again in the hopes that they would be better. They told me that my oil was leaking, my ball joints needed replacing, my engine light needs to be checked, and my belt needs replacing. Well I know the oil leak is wrong because I have a pressure gauge in my car and I always check it; my brakes and rotors were recently replaced and they would have told me if my ball joints were a problem; I told them my engine lights were on and to disregard them instead of trying to charge me 200 for it; and I've checked my belt multiple times and there are no cracks in it. All in all they were going to charge me about three grand for problems I don't even have. Stay away! read more

Had my 1st oil change at Midas this afternoon. It was a fine experience as far as oil changes go. I waited a reasonable amount of time - about 25 minutes and my car was ready! They didn't try to sell me items or services that I don't need. And I received a coupon for a free oil change next time from their current BUY ONE GET ONE FREE special! I brought my vehicle in for service. Prior to my leaving the property, I addressed new a loud noise and was told, without them taking a test drive to diagnose the issue, that I would need to make a costly repair if it would not go away. After researching the concern, I learned that they did not use the correct fluid. I brought my findings to their attention, and after much debate, they did replace the fluid using the correct information I provided. Not one time during our conversation did I raise my voice, yell or get aggressive. They never thanked me for bringing this concern to their attention or find my feedback helpful in updating the technician's knowledge so it would never happen again...nor did they ever say "I'm sorry." What I got was a snub "How do you know the wrong fluid was used?" The information was clearly documented on my copy of their invoice. What would have made a one star situation turn into a five star situation, apologizing for the over site. I am not looking for someone to cater to my whims, but if something is incorrect, step up and acknowledge the error. The situation as left me angry and upset, but not once did they express remorse or regret for my concern or frustration. read more

Previously went to Midas in Shortpump for an inspection. I go to Midas for my oil changes all the time. Midas usually gives you a run down of how your car is running. I recently got a wheel bearing and tie rods replaced recommended by Midas and went in for my scheduled oil change to get an update on how everything was running. They said everything looked great and working smoothly. Yesterday I went to get my car inspected. The oil change and inspection were only 3 weeks apart. They failed me stating that "all parts have gone bad and rear brakes need replacing." When I called to question them, Brad sounded sketchy in his explanation and response. I knew something was off. I left Midas with my car rattling, wobbling and tires cranking. Today I went to another repair shop to get a second opinion. Not short after they took a look, they noticed all of my bolts were loose and some even missing! Parts were loose as well. They also stated that there was nothing wrong with my rear brakes. I have never experienced something as insane as having a certified auto repair shop purposely loosen my parts to have me fail my inspection. I am so surprised and shocked by their attempt to scam me. I will be contacting corporate on your awful service. I wish I could give 0 stars. I will NEVER be returning to this sham of an auto care center. read more

Wow!!! So glad I found them when I needed them- right on the corner of Pump and Broad. I needed engine oil and they were so helpful in finding the right one for my Mini Cooper. Also, other than just selling me the product, they also asked questions to help me trouble shoot my issue. Total customer care!!! PROS: 1. If you have an older car that you don't care much about and you need just the basic oil change or battery replacement - the Midas on Broad Street is an OK shop. 2. Their prices are very affordable. 3. They offer a loaner car (Honda Fit) if you have to leave your car with them for a day. CONS: 1. I've got a dent the size of a fist on the rocker panel of my car when I left the car for a day there. I'm not sure if it happened on the parking lot or when my car was being put on the hoist. Their parking lot is cramped and the traffic is heavy. 2. Not good with higher end parts: when I brought a set of new tires and rims there to be mounted on my car, one rim got scratched during installation. The Midas employees did apologize and reimbursed the cost one rim to me - Thank you! But, these rims are sold as a set only, I found it impossible to buy just one from the same vendor. I had to order a new rim and wait a couple of months for it to arrive. 3. Not very tidy staff: my car has beige cloth interior, very clean. I brought the new rim for installation in the box in the trunk; at the garage the technician has unloaded the box from the trunk to the oily floor. When I picked my car the box with the removed/scratched rim was placed on the rear seat. The seat is no longer beige or clean - I was unable to remove the oily stains from the fabric. read more

The person who I spoke to on the phone suggested coming down and they will work me in between appointments. Got in around 9:30 and was out by 10:15 with my tire fixed. Reasonable charges.
