All I can really say to those who have not had the pleasure of dealing with the non-talking mechanics, if very little. The man man you need to watch for is their high pressure salesman manager, I was quoted over $1,000.00 for two struts my my vehicle and it is not a top of the line vehicle as I found out after I found out I could get them on E-Bay for $ 149.00 free shipping. I let them put in a sway bar and an alignment all for their deal of the day, and wait for this, drumroll, over $500.00. It was not the usual sway bar but two small ones on each wheel. Spoke to him on the phone when making my appointment btw. I get out of my car and he just starts saying "No inspections" over and over again. Which is cool and fine but I never got a phone call. He's supposed to be a manager but his rude attitude while he's wiping the windows to his gold 1999 Hyundai just really put a bad taste in my mouth. COMPLETE CON ARTISTS!! Came here for a brake job. With my job it is hard to schedule appointments and I had a surprise day off so I came here- no appointment. Got the car on the lift and I needed pads and rotors- this I knew. The caliper was also jammed and had to be replaced- I was not surprised as it had just started to grind. Fine. They gave me an estimate- for $3500. Was told (IIRC) in addition I needed CV joints, control arm, and I think axle in the front (the car was worth $2500, NO). Plus I didn't trust these guys anyway. I was also told that I needed front brake pads and that there was "1/32" left on the pads and it would be down to the metal in a few miles." This was on the estimate for an additionaI $600. I figured I would let my mechanic check it out. I was told the work would be $675 for the rear brake job only and I agreed. When I got the bill it was about $775 for all kinds of additional fluids and flushing fees and stuff ( I should see if I can find the invoice if I still have it). They told me that "everybody pays this." I should have put up more of a stink because it was not on the estimate, but I paid it, reluctantly. I did bring the car to my mechanic and he told me there was plenty of pad left on the front brakes and lasted for more than a year when I finally needed transmission repairs and I junked it. He did say I could use new shocks, but I let it go because I'm cheap. Oh yeah, I elected to go with the financing, even though I had the cash because I don't really have any credit. If you pay in 6 months there is no interest- great. I figured out the payments and it would be paid in 6 months- perfect. As it turns out at the end of 6 months there was 2 or 3 dollars left and they then charged me the interest- at 125% APR!!!. And it was a few months before I figured out this was happening as I didn't pay that close attention to the payments. I then had a heck of a time actually creating an account and making the payments- it was hours on the phone with customer service, and I'm sure this is intentional. So bottom line, stay far, far away from these guys. Go to a local mechanic with a reputable service. I went to a local mechanic for brakes and rotors on a different car (was not a Jeep) and it was like, jeez, $200 if I recall (it was also the front which I think is a little cheaper). I asked him to check if this was correct and that he forgot something. So yeah, there are honest mechanics. read more

Went in for an inspection of a used car that I bought. The car was justifiably failed due to the rear brake pads being 2/32nds of an inch (which is below the 3/32nds of an inch) required to pass. I received a quote to do both the front and back brakes that was exorbitantly high $986!! I said I'd think about it and left. I then received a recommendation to use 9th St. Auto in Stroudsburg from a friend, called then and got a quote for "about $600". I brought the car in the next morning, 1st thing, the job was done, car passed inspection.. total bill came to .... $568!!! Do not use Midas ... they are a total rip-off. read more

Never use this service I made an appointment in advance for 9:00 am to do an Inspection I arrived at 9:00 and waited until 10:00 but the lift was not free When I turned to the customer service, Tony said that he did not know how much longer I would have to wait. Total rip off I brought my car to these people on June 26th for a routine annual PA vehicle inspection. After inspecting the vehicle the service manager called to say that there was water in my brake fluid (I am now not sure I believe him) and he said that I need new windshield wiper blades to pass inspection. (He also tried to sell me an alignment which I knew was not needed. I said OK to the fluid and wiper blades. I know about what they should cost so I didn't ask. (My bad). When I went to pick up the car, they charged me $317.25! $158.98 of this was for parts (only) for two windshield wiper blades. That is approximately $100 above what the dealer charges (I double checked). (and more than that above what Autozone or other auto parts stores would charge. AND that price did not include labor.) They charged $89.99 for brake fluid - also above market! The rest was for the inspection plus "Shop supplies".) When I objected to the price, the service manager insisted that this is the correct price and would not release the vehicle until I paid. read more

These guys tried to charge me 1,400.00 for an alternator. They are definitely just trying to make a buck off of people. I got quoted a price for labor if I bought my own parts, it started at 450 and then shortly after they told me that it could take the entire day to fix the alternator. After telling them I will have the car towed they tried to convince me that the money I'm paying for a tow truck wouldn't make sense and I should just get the vehicle fixed there. I don't recommend even stopping at this spot. Especially if you are from out of town. A local tow guy helped us move the car out of the lot and told us that they were just trying to make a buck off of us. If your vehicle gets stuck out here get it towed. An alternator does not take an entire day to change, it shouldn't even take more than an hour to change. read more

Made an appointment for 8:30 AM to have my car inspected. At 9:30 AM, they come and tell me that to pass inspection, they need to replace the bulb for the license plate light, the bulb for the third brake light, windshield wiper blades have to be replaced and I must get an oil change. All of this was puzzling to me because the lights all worked when I brought the car in, the wiper blades were 6 months old and had an oil change 1000 miles prior. I pay the $130 bucks because I just want the car inspected and to be on my way. They hand me my receipt and docs back and it's someone else's docs, not even my car. I ask the technician what's going on, he says "let me find the mechanic". The technician can't find the mechanic for 30 minutes, comes back and says we're looking at your car now. Then he calls us into the garage and says we need the entire exhaust system replaced. There was a small hole in the pipe that needed to be patched, nothing else was wrong or needed to be replaced. We're now two hours in for a simple inspection, we asked for the keys back because we are absolutely done at this point and want to leave. They "refund" the $130 we paid for someone else's vehicle and leave, only to find out the next day that they charged us twice, FOR SOMEONE ELSE'S CAR! We went to Precision Auto on 611 that same day, passed with no problem and were in and out in 30 minutes. BEWARE of this place! They are unorganized and tell you things are wrong with your car that are not. Update. I reached out to Midas to discuss like they asked me to, provided all of my contact information, and they NEVER reached out to me. They comment on my review to make it seem like they care. Having worked there at one time I can tell you NEVER get an oil change here! They put lithium grease on the oil filter gaskets. A BIG NO-NO! It was done so to make it easier to break a filter loose when they come for another oil change. Unless they have changed their ways over the last few years I would be VERY afraid! As for the other review here: Joe (The Owner) is always pushing for more "sales" of things. Hence why they are always telling you to get new things. As for Cecilia (can't recall if that is the proper spelling) she may be the only good thing going there. I always thought she was a total sweetheart. I might not have as many nice things to say about the owner himself. And now that Mike O, and Chris H are gone I would question if they have any decent techs left. CROOKS DONT GO HERE So last weekend I was in the poconos on a mini getaway. Engine light came on went to autozone to get code they gave me an MAF sensor and told me tk taje it to midas to get put in. Midas wanted to do their own diagnostic. Fine . He took my car and half hour later I get a call stating that the damage to my car is going to cost $3500 . That my shocks were bad, my arm control bushings were bad and I needed 3 o2 sensors. I said absolutely not and how much would it be to get just the o2 sensors replaced because thats What I thought the codes were from AutoZone. He quoted me $1600 . Again I said no way it just didnt sound right. He told me it was unsafe to drive but I just wanted to get it home to someone I trusted. Got home and took it to local mechanic. IT WAS NOT O2 SENSORS IT WAS A VACCUUM LEAK IN MY ENGINE AND AN OIL SWITCH TOTAL? You ask $591.00. This mechanic did see that my arm control needed to be replaced however said that I had about 100k more life on them and I wasnt in any danger and said that would cost me no more than $1000. He looked at my SHOCKS GUESS WHAT? THEY WERE FINE! I couldnt believe it! They really thought I was gonna be scared enough to pay all that money out! First of all, the lady they have working there Cecilia is pretty much one of the most annoying people on the planet. Also, every time you go there they try to convince you that something is horribly wrong with your car. The reason I go to Midas is to avoid paying ridiculous prices at the dealership for routine things. However, I went in there for an oil change after I just purchased a brand new tire and they told me I should really think about getting 4 new tires. A few months later I went with brand new snow tires on my car and the guy said I should get new tires. We also took a brand new used car there and I guess implied that we wanted to know if it was in ok shape. The guy proceeded to check off that the car needed a new battery, new transmission fluid, new power steering fluid, and that it would fail inspection due to "serious rust damage" that had gone all the way through. He basically said the frame of the car could just break at any time. (He didn't know the car had been through auction inspection which would never let a rotted frame go through without reporting it.) We were distraught and immediately thought the car was a piece of garbage, etc. We called the dealer and they were blown away and said they were going to try to get their money back on the car and immediately give us our money back. We then looked at the car ourselves and noticed that the guy at Midas didn't even check the rust on the car--- it is normal surface rust and he told us a screwdriver would go through (fail inspection) without even checking- it didn't go through in the slightest when using force. He also told us we needed a new battery. He didn't even check the battery and the car starts up fine and has no symptoms of needing a new battery but we have no way of knowing if it was replaced prior to 50,000 miles. (Neither does the guy at Midas and he didn't hook up the battery to check.) Also told us we need power steering & transmission fluid without even checking it. (Once again he doesn't know when it was replaced, assumes we don't know either so just told us to change it without checking.) Once we told them we were simply going to return the car as per our agreement with the dealer, they started to act like nothing was really a big deal. One of the guys, Jim, even went so far as to look under the car and say "Oh wow look at this undercoating... I used to do this to people all the time when I worked at a used car dealership." If you ask anyone what to do about surface rust on a car, they will tell you to sandblast any pieces of rust and then undercoat it to prevent more rust. If you see undercoat instead of rust or frame damage, isn't that a good thing?? Midas isn't even a body shop and they don't even have the proper machines to electronically gauge the length and condition of a frame. Apparently they will just see some rust and say your frame is rotted through. Every time I'm in here they are calling people out to point out something that is wrong with their car. I am going to go back to the dealer for oil changes even though I have my free Midas oil change. I didn't know tires went bald at 15,000 miles or that frames of cars are rusted through because the spare tire chain of a 9 year old car has rust particles on it. Thankfully the professional mechanics at Midas of Mt Pocono taught me this. read more

Today, I have received nothing but great customer service and satisfied results with my vehicle. Zero wait time. They tested my problem hands on I was having before & after. I have brought in three cars for an oil change and every time they stick me with a bulb replacement charge. The same bulb in all three cars?!!!!! the license plate bulb. They know customers don't check their license plate bulb. They replace it without asking so when you get the bill, you have no choice but to pay that extra $7. I had the worst experience of my life at Midas in Mount Pocono. I went in for a simple inspection with a fairly new car with low miles. I went there early in the morning when the store opened but still had to wait 3 hrs for my car. The guy said it would ready in an hour. He came back to me and loudly said the car failed inspection in front of all the other customers. He said my back shocks were leaking fluid and it would cost $432 dollars to replace it and pass inspection. I was shocked. I call the dealer I bought the car from 2 weeks ago and heard him say to him on speaker phone to the tech your a crook and scammer the shocks cannot be leaking fluid it has very low miles on it. The car dealer told me to take my car out of there ASAP. I still had to pay Midas $30 for a fail inspection. I went somewhere else and pass inspection no problems. Don't go there they are scammers and crooks don't know if it's because I'm a woman or just a new customer they never seen before. Horrible service ! read more

3 minutes ago I had a wheel alignment done on our SUV. It was a random Tuesday morning and they were able to get me done within the hour. My husband drove it on Wednesday and said the alignment was still way off. On Friday he returned to see if they could look at it. He didnt give an attitude or make accusations or was unpleasant in anyway but he was immediately questioned as if he didnt know what he was talking about and given an attitude by the manager as if he dared to question their work. He was told they were too busy that day so my husband made an appointment to return the next day. When he showed up at appointment time he was once again dealing with a rude person at the desk and was told they were running 3 hours behind. My husband left feeling aggravated that he kept getting the run around. I called 2 hours later and not so kindly demanded that they get our SUV in immediately. Husband shows up and immediately manager immediately starts telling him "your lucky I didnt take that call from your wife because she would have heard it from me", my husband didnt take that very kindly. The unprofessionalism and lack of customer service is appalling. The alignment was redone and done correctly this time. The manager tried telling my husband that our SUV had a problem with the control box and that he doesn't know why it was inspected and that's why it was harder to get the alignment done the first time. Funny thing is that they never mentioned anything to me during the original appointment. We have had 2 other places look over the SUV as well as a friend and not one said anything about the control box. The attitude never left the manager until he could find a place to put the blame. "Clearly it was our faulty control box". Customer service is important to me, I have worked in the industry. Next time treat your customers kindly and drop the attitude and you won't receive the rude phone calls in return. Will not be returning with my business and hope everyone goes elsewhere too. read more

My husband and I have never had a better experience literally ever. We are on vacation this weekend and unfortunately we had some car trouble. After looking all over for a mechanic shop and seeing that almost everything was closed we found Midas. We were immediately greeted warmly on this cold day, the manager wish we remembered his name was awesome he helped us immediately and knew we were from out of state and offered to have someone take us back to the hotel, Kevin one of the employees was also awesome drove us to the hotel and picked us up to pick up our vehicle. I had my car here for an oil change a little while ago. With the oil change, a free tire rotation was included. There was no push of products or services. Also, the tech had made my "Low Tire Pressure" notification disappear. I had always checked my tires with a gauge and always had the proper listed pressure in them. That message just never went away! He was able to do it and that irritating message that stared at me from my dash, has never returned!! I am so grateful for whatever he did!! All that I was charged for was an oil change. I just bought my American muscle dream car and although I usually take my cars to the dealership, I decided to do some research and take my car in to this Midas specifically, to install my new exhaust. I called and spoke with Kevin, the GM, who was very friendly and knowledgeable. He invited me to come in, threw my car on the lift and literally checked out everything and EXPLAINED things to me in a clear and not condescending manner. (Yes, I'm a woman. Yes, I know a little about cars but I want to learn more. Yes, I have had car guys treat me like I'm a moron.) NOT HERE. The entire staff are friendly and they put the exhaust on timely and even gave me an option to check it out and complete the resonator delete if I decided to go with it, which I did and now my car is even more B.A. (Watch out, Vin Diesel here I come!) Midas, we'll be back next week for my husband's truck exhaust and I'll see you all after that for some snow tires. I cannot believe what I've been going through with this company. First of all, my cars fuel pump died. I knew it was coming for a long time and finally it just died. Took it to midas ONLY cause my friend let me borrow her credit card for them since I didn't have the cash up front and it was fixed..... For about a week. Had it towed back there yesterday, luckily I had roadside assistance and it only cost me 10$. No problem. So today I'm going to work at 345 car started up fine, I'm on the highway and the car just DIES in the middle of the highway. I call them totally LIVID!!!! how is it possible that I pay 750$ to get this fuel pump and it dies then they "fix it" then it dies again???? On the highway no less. On my way to WORK!!! And when i called them and told them the situation they REFUSED to pay for a tow and basically blew me off. I am so fed up and disgusted with whatever they did. And I BETTER get the money for the tow back. I can't believe this crap. You're better off letting your neighbor or your dad work on the car. Midas is bullshit go to your local trusted mechanic. Never again. Very disappointed and also angry. This post is for the Mount Pocono rt 940 establishment. Went in with a bit of car trouble. (Hesitation and noise) I was told I needed oil/ change and then suggested some maintenance which I couldn't do at that time. After they changed the oil I got in my car and the check engine light was on. I drove a bit then I called and told them suddenly it was on and I heard "well we did tell you it had some underlying issues" (no they suggested maintenance) I went to an automotive place to see why the light was on and what the code meant and I was told "purge control value" when my husband got home, he took a look and found that the purge control valve was DISCONNECTED. Husband reconnected it and light went out. That leaves me with such an uneasy feeling that they would deliberately do this to force me to come back. I feel very taken advantage of. I had one of most amazing experiences at this location a few days ago, first I went to Kost tire and mt pocono, and they wanted to charge me 89 and hour just to put my car on the lift to see what was scrapping, and not only that the worker there by the name of tom or Joe at Kost remarks left me stunned " we are not just going to put your car up for free just to go somewhere else" mind you I was never expected them to do so, but how it was stated was wildly offensive. So I took my business next door to Midas and express that my car was scrapping underneath, the assistant manger reassured me that for lifting my car up wasn't going to be hassle, he never once mentioned a priced, he wanted to wait until there was a problem so he could provide me with a quote just to fix the issues, turns out it was just my undercarriage shield dragging, his workers offer to fix it free of charged, of course I gave them compensation as well as coffee and donuts because I was beyond grateful. This place screwed up my breaks on an inspection !!! The breaks were just done by another mechanic a day before and were working just perfectly. I was so happy to take it for an inspection. The young guy who took them off the breaks for the inspection messed up the breaks and broke the springs off! Further, one of the head guys comes out and says they cant take off the drums, so I need an entire new set of breaks, EVEN THOUGH THE BREAKS WERE FINE A DAY BEFORE, in fact, THE BREAKS HAD PLENTY OF LIFE LEFT ON THEM, but they said the entire breaks had to be replaced and that would be $650 !!! UNBELIEVABLE, this place got greedy, and BAD. Even I know how to remove drums with a hammer or screwdriver. I left and they did not even put the breaks back together again properly when I left ! They handed me the broken parts and said the car was not drivable. I came in with a perfect car for inspection and left with a broken set of breaks that THEY BROKE during inspection!! I WAS VERY DISAPPOINTED and will probably not return. This place got very GREEDY and SLOPPY, they lost me as a customer and will loose a LOT OF CUSTOMERS LIKE THIS !!!!! read more
