Went from a phone quote of $250 to $1000 for replacement of a stolen catalytic converter. The shop around the corner was able to do it for $316. Sent this email back on March 20, 2006. I sure hope this creep isn't still there or still working in any profession that requires integrity. Never did receive a response from Midas. --- On Friday, March 17th I brought my '02 Camaro into this Midas. I was having issues with my brakes. I left my car at the shop for approximately three hours. Jeremy Dye (the Shop Manager) called me at around 4pm and explained the problems that were found with my vehicle. One of the issues he mentioned was a torn front brake caliper boot. I requested he leave the car the way it was so that I can see exactly what he was talking about. I took my brother (who knows significantly more about auto repair than I do) along with me to the shop. Jeremy showed us the other problems, but apparently forgot about the brake caliper (which I was being charged upwards of $200 for) until we took it upon ourselves to examine it closer. The boot was freshly torn (over an inch lengthwise) and Jeremy had no idea how it happened! There was no dirt or brake dust in the tear. Furthermore, my brother found a piece of the boot in the hollowed out area of the caliper! Jeremy had no explanation at all, and kept insisting it was due to "really hot temperatures." He even went as far as showing me holes in a caliper boot from another vehicle, which didn't even compare to the gaping tear in the boot on my car! There is no doubt in my mind that this Midas shop damaged my caliper boot, whether accidental or deliberate, then lied to me about it. I have considered notifying the Better Business Bureau about this location. As an update to the previous review, this place is under new ownership and they are horrible ! They broke the temperature sensor and didn't tell me about it so I ended having to take my car in for head gasket repairs and a water pump repair, these guys have NO IDEA what they are doing. They never even fixed the leak that they were supposed to, just a complete rip off... Go to Foothill Auto Repair and see Glenn if you want experienced and honest mechanics :) I posted a current review of the work done by Foothill. read more

These people are complete rip offs and scam artists. I have paid them twice to fix my brakes in the past year and I just took my car back YET again and they said it would be $678.00. The guy in the front office was SO RUDE to me, and kept saying how unsafe my car was and kept saying things to try and scare me into paying these outrageous prices. I have since taken my car to a HONEST mechanic (Jays Auto Repair in San Clemente, Ca - HIGHLY RECCOMENDED) who did not rip me off. I feel these people take advantage of women especially... they think we are stupid enough to fall for thier scare tactics. I hope no one ever goes here..l. support the small business instead! read more

Good customer service but the techs aren't very seasoned. I had a tricky alignment and they didn't know how perform it or even know that you could. Took it over to American Tire Depot and I was in and out in 1 hour. Green across the board. read more

Beware. I took my truck in for an oil change and they did not change the filter. My husband had marked the filter to make sure it was changed and his initials were still there. This is the third time this has happened. He showed the Manager, he apologized and offered to change it again and use synthetic oil. I will not be doing business with them again. read more

Thank you Sean and Dan. The brake light on my '10 MINI Cooper S came on, so I called MIDAS Lake Forest to schedule a free brake inspection. I had previously had my front brakes/rotors/sensors replaced several months ago. I saved a small fortune as compared to Crevier MINI service departments. 4 months later the front brakes have continued to perform admirably. Once at the shop, they checked the rears and even though my rotors wear worn down with a very high lip which I might have been able to have dangerously kept, they suggested I replace them but DID NOT coercively try to upsell me. I knew I needed new rear rotors. They even threw in a free inspection of the vehicle once complete and happened to discover the same issues I already knew about such as a bad fog light and old oil which I knew needed to be changed. I will be bringing the MINI back for both these repairs. For the rear brakes I was in and out in the proposed 90 mins. Very impressive. They test drove MINI and so far, I can feel the improvement in braking. I have taken my '05 Benz s55 AMG here to have brakes, oil change, and fuel filter replaced and my '10 Dodge Challenger for oil changes. Truly, this is a great shop to take your car to and you can trust these guys. The negative reviewers may have unreasonable demands and expectations. Cars need service. It sucks I know. It is expensive, but this shop is more than fair and reasonable and I have had only genuinely positive comments to post. I am thankful that their is a trustworthy repair shop that can fit most of my routine maintenance vehicle needs. Britt read more

This shop destroyed my car. Now because of them, I need almost $1000 in repairs, to fix something that they destroyed. And they refuse fix it. I went here and Al helped me. Him and his guys were the best!!! I have now been back to them twice now. He is always really honest and upfront with me about what is going on with my car. For the last 3 years these guys have worked on my wife's car. Basically oil changes, tire rotations, and brakes. With the occasional filter change. Bottom line? They schedule me at MY convenience. I went in for a break job on Saturday. I've been coming here for 10 years with previous cars and since the GM dealer across the street went out of business about 2 years ago I've been coming here again. Gotta say that the first couple of times I came in for an oil change I was surprised at how the service had declined. One Saturday morning several months ago, I had an appointment at 7:30am. By 9 I left because no one showed up! I got my oil changed at the adjacent Econo Lube, which was a mistake. They did not put the oil pan bolt back in properly or forgot to use a gasket. Oil leaked all over my driveway and everywhere else I went I am sure. I decided to give Midas one last chance with my last oil change. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that new people were running the place. They were professional and service oriented. I told them what happened before. They were apologetic and explained that the owners understood that changes needed to be made and that the store was getting a bad reputation. Anyway, my oil change was done quickly correctly and the guy running the store took me out to the garage to show me the condition of my brakes. We agreed that I needed new brakes soon. Back to Saturday. When I arrived just before 7:30am, the front door was already open. Eric the manager acknowledged me by name. I guess he saw the car I was driving. He was friendly and knowledgeable. The brake job took about as long as he said it would and so far the brakes seem to be working great. I am pleased to see they are getting their act back together! A good mechanic you can trust is hard to find. read more

The last few visits have been very disappointing with this Midas branch. I went to this locatiin for the last few years when I moved into the area, but no longer. I took my car in for a check engine light issue back in August 2017. I spent over $300 and one week later, the light was back on again! A few months later more complications occurred and I took my car in again and they gave me recommendations that amounted to nearly $1000! I decided to shop around. I took it to another Midas and low and behold there was simply a rip in hose that needed to be replaced for $180. That was over a month ago.. no more check engine light or problems. Some Midas locations are competent and honest, but not the Lake Forest one. They need to clean up their act. read more

My husband took our accord in for a routine oil change on Saturday - was informed the oil plug needed to be replaced and as far as payment he said not to worry it was "taken care of". That night I noticed a large puddle of oil in the garage just after he pulled out to run errands. Store wasn't open til Monday. Took the car in the following Monday morning and waited far too long. While in the waiting room I noticed the man working the desk took multiple calls on his personal cell phone and at times stopped what he was doing to watch what was on the TV in the waiting room. As a customer I couldn't be more frustrated witnessing how lackadaisical he was in customer service and getting things accomplished in a timely manner. After about 45minutes I was taken to my car and shown that the oil plug just needed to be tighten more. (Really, 45mins for that quick fix?!) I then waited 30 more minutes for my car to be pulled out and keys given back! I asked if he had any paperwork for me and he said "no, but you will need to pay for the oil plug we replaced on Saturday." ... to which I responded, "I'm sorry but I thought that was all taken care of then... I'm not paying for something that was done in the past. If it needed to be paid for you should have had it taken care of in the bill from Saturday." We went back and forth a bit, stating that if it was done correctly on Saturday I wouldn't even be here for him to now tell me to pay. Ultimately I did not pay, and after being there for over 1 hr & 15minutes, simply, for my oil plug to be tightened, I was furious! We have been servicing multiple cars here at this location for almost 4 years, but the last couple of visits after what seemed to be some management/staff changes we will be taking our business elsewhere. Midas - Oil leak in our garage - Tires Near Me - Lake Forest, California

My car was making wired noises, so I took it here. I hardly waited for 5 minutes and during that time different people assured me five times that someone will be with me soon. Then one guy came to take a look at my car, asked me to wait and offered coffee. In 10 minutes he came back and said some fuel levels were low so he topped it off and come back if I see problem again and NO CHARGE! Apparently that was the problem and haven't seen it again. The staff here was very friendly and seemed honest and upfront. I am not going anywhere else for any of my auto care needs from now on. read more

Poor customer service. Admittedly I called this location in error, thinking I was calling the Tustin location. However, the customer service was less than what I have come to expect from Midas. The store manager answered the phone and I asked for an appointment for an oil change. He didn't want to give me one. I asked how long it would take if I came in, "one and a half to two hours", he said. I said, "What! It only takes about half an hour or so in the past." I even offered to be the first one there at 7:30 when he said they opened and still he said at least one and a half hours. REALLY?! Then he said, "We're not Jiffy Lube." Then he said something that made me realize I had dialed the wrong Midas shop and ended the conversation. I called the shop in Tustin and the manager said sure, 11AM. I told him my experience with Lake Forest and he was surprised and said he'd have my oil change done in about 40 minutes while I wait, the usual time. We just moved to calif and we would highly recommend this midas to anyone who appreciates honesty and great customer service. They were very sensitive to my situation of being ripped off at another automotive place which never fixed the problem. MIdas spent well over three hours diagnosing and never charged me to find the issues with my car where the other two places didnt know what it is but guessed at the problem. We are very pleased with the excellent service we got and would definitely recommend this place to anyone who appreciates honesty and customer satisfaction which is hard to come by today. I been coming here for past couple years for my first car ever. After being ripped off at two other places it was really hard to trust any auto shops. It started out with an oil change service and ended up getting any service I need in my '99 Camry. The owner Brian is always helpful and from what I've seen, been honest with me. He even got me a great deal on lifetime oil changes as I have spent a good amount of money here for my car. I'm sure I already got my money's worth of oil changes but I still have more life on my car so I think I got a screaming deal. :). I'm pretty anal and like my car to drive perfect even though its an old car. Every time I go in for an oil change now, I pay $0 but they still do their routine thorough inspection and keep me updated in what is going on with my car. Brian has never been aggressive about me getting something fixed and always tries to give me payment options if its something that I need but don't have money for. If I say I don't wanna do it that day, they don't push for it which I like. I have heard so many stories from people about how the mechanics will intentionally break something or mess with the car to make more money off you but this has never happened to me here!! My boyfriend comes here to from time to time and we have both been very satisfied! read more
