AVOID THIS SHOP AT ALL COST! The only reason they get 1 star is because I can't give them less.
This is the shadiest car shop I have ever been to. The mechanics were smoking in the shop and were in no hurry to complete any work on my vehicle. Even John behind the sales desk was out taking a smoke break during my visit. I wish I was making this up, but I can't believe that any kind of business would treat customers this way. I can speak for some of the other negative reviews for this shop because of my exceptionally bad experience at this shop. The better reviews on here seem like they could be fake or done under different management. Honestly, I think it's bad enough that it should be shut down based on the amount of fraud and horrendous customer service in my personal experience and if the other reviews on here are accurate. Other auto shops in the area are weary of this Midas shop.
First, the work took much longer than expected. John at the sales desk repeatedly told me it was "almost done", "should be done in an hour". The repair should have taken no more than 1.5 hours in my opinion, if that. 5 hours later, work on my vehicle was finally done (or so I thought). And that was after I started questioning them about how long it was taking. When I did question them why it was taking so long, they said they had ordered the wrong parts from the local Napa auto parts store that they were having delivered to the shop.
Second, they grossly overcharge for parts. After reviewing over the parts purchased from Napa through this Midas shop, I was charged almost double what I could have purchased the part for myself. My fault for not checking ahead of time and trusting the shop though.
Third, they said that other things were wrong that had to be fixed immediately (I wouldn't be surprised at all if they were the ones to break items). Not knowing any better, I let them perform extra work. Just 10 minutes after driving away from the shop, my vehicle broke down on the highway. They weren't even going to pay for a tow truck to get my vehicle off the highway. It was only after I had the tow truck drive to this shop with it stuck in gear on the back of the tow truck did they pay for it. Then John behind the sales desk had the nerve to complain about how much the tow truck driver was charging (doesn't feel very good to get ripped off does it John?) After sitting at their shop for 8 hours, they finally told me that I would have to leave the car there and get a rental car. During my 8 hour stay, I witnessed them running the same scam on everybody who walked in (they must have recommended 4-5 air conditioner services that day to people who just wanted a simple oil change and even one customer just wanted a taillight replacement. I might be more understanding if they didn't get to my car if they were busy, but they weren't even busy that day. The mechanics were out taking more smoke breaks right after I brought my vehicle back to have them fix it. Amazingly, they paid for the rental car only after I had to put the deposit on my credit card. They also did not charge for any further repairs (since they and I both knew they were the ones who caused it). After this Midas shop "repaired" it the next day, I took it to another shop to have somebody else look at it. The damaged caused by Midas nearly "totaled" my vehicle. This is in addition to renting a car while it was the other shop getting fixed and time missed from work.
Fourth, the shop manager, John (different than the other one, but just as careless and nicotine-filled), was unwilling to cooperate with me in terms of reimbursing the repair costs. A regional manager, Marty, completely blew me off when I reached out to him to meet with him. His response was "sue us". Ok, thanks for the advice Marty. I wrote a letter to the local shop and the Midas corporate office outlining the damage they caused to my vehicle with my intent to sue. Marty only responded when the corporate office contacted him telling him to work with me. I didn't even ask for my total expenses in the my letter, because I just wanted something and for them to understand the trouble they caused. They just never realized how much trouble they caused me and likely lots of other people as well.
The bad service at Midas starts from the top, which is disappointing, because I have taken other vehicles to other Midas shops without any issues (at least not this bad). I WILL NOT be going to another Midas shop in the future. If you like Midas, fine, just don't go to this shop. Just know WHEN (not if) you have an issue at another Midas shop, don't expect to get any help from upper management. DO NOT TAKE YOUR BUSTED VEHICLE BACK TO THEIR SHOP TO WORK ON IT. I did, and it just made it worse. This shop gives all auto shops a bad name.
I recommend not getting the "Midas touch" and find yourself another shop in the area. This one is to be avoided. read more
