Garrett and his team quickly diagnosed why my F150's headlight didn't work even after I changed the bulb. It was a simple fuse which they didn't charge me for it. I felt dumb that I couldn't figure that out, but I'm glad they did and very quickly. They only charged me for the diagnosis which I really appreciate. Would never go back to Midas in Carpentersville! Went in for pad replacement since I had a lifetime warranty! I was told if I do not replace rotors brake will make noise in a couple months! They never showed me my rotors if they were good or bad! No money if I got the pads replaced! read more

Yesterday, on 12/19/24, I brought in my White Jeep Grand Cherokee because the engine light was on and to have an oil change. After an engine light diagnostic and visual inspection, they determined that the light was on from engine cooler pressure and the oil was leaking badly and they couldn't do an oil change. However, I was still charged (and paid) $145 +tax for an engine diagnostic. The shop actually has a free service for "Dashboard Warning Light On" promo thru 01/16/2025. Took my 2011 Hyundai Tucson to the Midas location in Carpentersville, IL at 20 S Western Ave, for an oil change and tire rotation on Saturday May 8 for a 7:30 AM appointment. Everything went well enough. Later in the day the SUV started making strange noises that were becoming progressively worse as it was driven. Called the manager and brought it back. They tried to hand us the keys without telling us what the issue was and when pressed for an answer, they told us that only two of the five lug nuts on the rear passenger-side tire were tightened, three were not. No apology and no further explanation after what could have been a potentially hazardous safety issue despite their oversight. Will not be going back and will be steering anyone I know away from them and Midas as a whole. read more

Over prices for oil change. Didn't want a tire rotate done and did it anyway. Didn't talk to me about the price until after service. Saying did synthetic because my car was newer car. I don't feel like it needs synthetic it. My car is just an Kia forte. Not a expensive fancy car that needs synthetic oil. Should have asked me what kind of oil. I was tired and didn't think to ask and just thought I was getting the basic oil change. Always asks them first or else they do what ever . read more

This is the first review I've ever left in my life but I had to warn others. This is the absolute worst place to take your vehicle to for repairs. Not only do they deny wrongdoing but they will not back up their work. We were told we had to have our oil cooler replaced. They suggested a few other things but said they weren't needed right away. They replaced the oil cooler and when doing so, cut our fuel line. We had gallons of fuel pouring out and had to get it towed to a dealership to get it fixed. The dealership took videos when it got there and showed us the fuel pouring out of it. The tow truck driver mentioned he smelled fuel as well. Midas denies it and wouldn't refund us any of the labor costs despite costing me an additional $1300. Midas also told us that our head gasket had blown and quoted us another $12,000 to replace the engine. The dealership told us Midas didn't bleed the fluids in the car correctly which was making it look like a blown head gasket. They are horrible. The manager ignored emails when I asked for the owners name and phone number. Please, save yourself and your vehicle and do not give them any of your business. They will absolutely lie and cheat you out of money to your face. read more

This Midas is awful! The people who work there are scammers, liars and cheats. I took my car there in January for an oil change and tire rotation, paying full price for both. Unfortunately I didn't find out until a month later when I had to have a tire repaired that they never preformed the tire rotation. About a year before that I had to buy a new tire and the new tire was still in the same position so a tire rotation had never been completed. Figuring that maybe a mistake had been made I took the car back to this Midas for another oil change and tire rotation on June 26th. This time I marked one of the tires. I told the man who checked me in, Adam McClane, that I was certain that the tire rotation wasn't performed in January and to make sure it was done this time. I watched the work being done and never saw the car being lifted and never saw more than one person working on the car. When the car was ready I was told that the rotation had been done and that 2 people had been working on the car. Ok, I thought, maybe I missed it. But when I got home and looked closely the marked tire was in the same position. So, not only did they not perform the tire rotation yet again, they changed me for it then blatantly lied to my face about it. Don't go near this place. read more

I needed to get my oil changed and I called different shops around the area, Midas has the cheapest synthetic oil change. I scheduled a day-of appointment online, it said they'd contact me within an hour but they never did. About an hour before closing (and after waiting about 4 hours), I decided to just drive my car in. They said sometimes they don't get a chance to look at their online appointment scheduling when they're busy. **Note: call in to make an appointment** Once I was in, they had no problem changing my oil. It took maybe 20 minutes (maximum). No hassle. The next weekend, my fiancé brought in his car for an oil change, new brake pads, and new tires (that's what the car dealer said he needed). When he went in, they changed the oil and they inspected the tires and brake pads. They found that he didn't need new tires and only needed two of the four brake pads replaced. They could have easily done $300-400 more work on the car, but instead, Midas just told him that it wasn't necessary. We appreciated the honestly. We'll definitely be coming back here for all our car needs in the future! read more

Oil changes are done pretty quick. Other than that, the place is bogus. I took my 2015 corolla with 60k miles there for an oil change & to look at a squeak I had under my car. They told me that I needed to have my struts and sway bar replaced for $1k along with an air filter and cabin filter. So I told them no to $1k worth of work and allowed them to change the filters. I then went to take my car to chicago to a family trusted mechanic to see if I needed to have my struts and sway bar replaced. That mechanic told me that my struts are high quality toyota struts that are basically brand new. Did my air & cabin filter need to even be replaced ? LOL. WHACK. read more

The other day I got a puncture in one of my tires. The puncture was on the middle of the tire but they told me that it was on the rim wall and they couldn't patch it and I had to get 2 new tires so it wouldn't be unbalanced. And they tried to charge me $600 for 2 new tires. I told them just to inflate the tire and I would get it fixed elsewhere. And they completely lied to me because my neighbor patched up the tire no problem. read more

Have you ever left your infant child at an unlicensed daycare, run by a middle-aged lady in a belly shirt, who is drinking suspicious blue liquid from a plastic tumbler at 8 in the morning and thought, "I'm probably going to regret this, but I have no other alternative"? Neither have I, but that's the feeeeeeeling I get when I drop my car off at most shops for repairs. Actually, that's the feeling I *used to* get. Now I drop my insolent, metal child off at Midas Auto with Rene and it's like leaving your problem child with Annie Sullivan. I KNOW my " baby" is going to be okay--more than okay--when I pick her up. That's a much better feeling than I used to get. I've got a list of things that we've been meaning to fix on the wife's car (four wheel drive is busted, rear passenger door won't stay shut), and Rene will be getting all of the business. read more

I have taken my car there a few times now and I can honestly say they are awesome!! I had a slow leak and on one of our tires. I went there to fix it, and the service guy pulled up my records and said it was covered at under the tire warranty. He went the extra minute to look up my info, he didn't have to do that!! He could have just charged me, cause I didn't remember I had that warranty!! Their prices are great and I feel confident that I won't get taken advantage of being a woman with car issues!! When my husband and I moved from Carpentersville to Rockford, we knew we were not going to find a mechanic and his team to repair our cars and know US as US and not just any customer. I had my oil changed here and also asked for my tires to be rotated. When I picked up my car I specifically asked if the tires were rotated and they said yes. A couple weeks later I got a flat tire, and when I took off the flat, 2 of the bolts were cross threaded and snapped off, making a simple tire change into a big, costly ordeal. Clearly Midas cross threaded the bolts when they rotated them. Then a couple weeks later I checked the oil and saw they didn't replace the oil cap and now there is oil all over my engine. I have to go buy a new cap from the dealer now. I'll never come back here. They ended up costing me a couple hundred dollars in parts and repairs. read more

Parts prices are expensive, inflated...perhaps common in franchise auto repair shops. I've had work here, and I am satisfied with the wait times and work quality, but I was surprised that they more than doubled the actual cost of a part I needed. Only the warranty made me authorize the repair. read more

Moved from Chicago to Algonquin a few months back and my car needed an oil change. Called and asked if they would be able to fit me in if I came by in 1/2 hour. Spoke with Tom and he said no problem. I feel that Adam is standing behind his work as best as any mechanic can and even going beyond. After working this out and because of past experiences with them which have all been good I will continue to brng my vehicles here.
