I have brought my cars to Midas for many years because of the excellent quality, good value, and customer service. I had a slow oil leak and Midas found that the oil pan plug had trouble sealing after many years of being overtightened at fast lube services. This could have failed anytime and left me stranded. They showed me the problem and provided a durable good value fix. Greg is knowledgeable, is a good communicator, cares about his customers, and is a wonderful human being. Now so many people want service that he is often overwhelmed with calls and drop ins. Make sure there is enough staff to ensure he doesn't have to work on off days and gets the vacation he needs. Invest in technology to process phone calls so he can focus on walk ins and continue high quality vehicle resolutions. read more

An inspection had previously been done on this same vehicle in April which Ed pulled up, saving us money on an inspection and informing us of additional costs and maintenance for the vehicle. I hate doing this because the people who work here are all super nice but just on a purely professional level the experience was bad. Long story short, having an issue with the car. Take it in, about 2k worth of work needed. Ok fine, is what it is. Week later, problem persists. Another 1k. Rinse and repeat. Now I'm down 4k, problem still persists. Take it into a competitor, the problem is identified almost immediately, and ironically was a completely separate issue from the one identified to begin with that literally could have been resolved with the pressing of a button. So that nearly 4,000 dollars worth of work was completely unnecessary. Look, the guys who work here are nice and friendly, and I don't believe this was a cash grab or anything. I think they were legitimately trying to help. But I'm still out 4k and I gotta call the balls and strikes as I see them. read more

Greg and the team at Midas of Bothell were great. They were able to quickly assess an issue with our Volvo XC70's exhaust system (a missing bolt holding the passenger side muffler in place). They fully resolved the issue, re-tapping the threads and getting the correct bolt installed in about 30 minutes. Greg ordered the parts and had his guy get started. The mechanic came and got Greg. They took me in the shop to show me my brake pads were at 6, not 2. I was very impressed! Dear Ed, you know I love you guys but I am disheartened because you have significantly increased your oil change rates. It's more expensive than the dealership. Sad part is when I brought in my car I mentioned I like oil change here coz it's cheaper than dealership and I was not notified that the rates have changed. The rates were told to me after the service was done. I paid it but I was pretty sad! Now I still love you guys but it's a little hard to digest 100+ for oil change when dealerships do it for 75 and also give you free car wash and vacuum with it. I've been taking my car here for several years and have always had excellent service. Today I had my brake pads replaced and a set of new tires put on. (I still had the factory tires and they were pretty worn.) The service was quick and I was out of there sooner than I expected! The owner is friendly and flexible so that's also a plus. Now that things are opening up and I'm driving my pristine Toyota Prius more often, I've been wracked with anxiety about catalytic converter theft. A meal out with friends meant parking in front of the restaurant or finding a parking spot in a busy area underneath a street lamp. This was not sustainable, especially in Seattle, where parking spots are rare. And my friends were pissed that I kept taking off during the meal to look at my car. After checking around for catalytic converter shield installation prices, I ended up at this Midas. I was given a fair price for installation, but the cost of the shield quoted by Midas was higher than what I could purchase online (the manufacturer was having a sale at the time of my purchase). Midas seemed fairly busy when I went in, with another lady waiting for her car to be worked on, but the mechanic had my shield installed in less than an hour, being familiar with installing this particular brand of catalytic converter shield. The waiting room was high-ceilinged and spacious, for those who may worry about waiting in an enclosed space during Covid. The owner/manager was friendly and made small talk as we waited. I was having the work done as Seattle was experiencing its weird heat wave, and the A/C in the waiting room was nice. At some point during the installation, I even walked outside to see the underside of my car as it was jacked up and being worked on, and was surprised that the bottom of my car was clean enough to eat off of (it has less than 20k miles). This confirmed that I did the right thing in getting the shield. I'm sure my catalytic converter would have been a nice prize for an opportunistic thief. read more

I was impressed with their expertise , and I was expecting an expensive repair which I definitely can't afford right now, but they priced me under 200$ and I really see the difference when drive now! So I would say it depends on your budget and what you are asking for, cuz I asked for a quick and not expensive solution at this moment and luckily they were able to did it ! Also they provided a deep a consultation about what they've discovered was wrong with the car and what it might need the nearest year and what to keep an eye on! Came here requesting a look at my brake fluid, which Swickard Toyota said needed to be replaced. They took a quick look and said it wasn't necessary yet. Also asked about some cleaning the dealer recommended for the area of my hybrid that takes in air before it gets to the engine. Came in for a quick quote for a muffler replacement but Alex and his team were so nice and professional. Instead of simply peaking under my car, they took the time and effort to put my car on the lift for a thorough inspection. They're quote was within my expectations. One muffler shop in Kirkland gave me a quote $50 higher and they didn't even bother stepping outside to look at my car let alone put it on a lift. Communication from them is non-existent. The work took a while (over a week), which is fine, but they did not call me once during that time to give me updates. I had to call them. It seems pretty simple but is a basic aspect of customer service. On top of that, one of the original issues I wanted addressed was the alignment. It wasn't until I came to pick up the vehicle that they told me they weren't able to do the alignment because of my custom wheels. read more

I just want to say that these guys are awesome and amazing. I came in originally because my engine light came on, and because I drive a Ford, I was concerned, because it's a FORD. They diagnosed the issue, something about the onboard computer that monitors the system. They reset it, and also because my oil was also low, flushed and put more in. They checked everything else out, my lights, my air fliter, and my wipers. I didn't have the time to get them dealt with, but they gave me the part numbers, so I can pick them up from elsewhere, and then come have them install them. I don't know about you, but anyone who offers to do that for you, and makes you feel not entirely stupid about your car, are awesome people. So thank you to the team at Bothell Midas. I stopped by here to see how much it'd be to get my oil changed. My car has a special filter, uses synthetic oil and, as I just found out from the manager here, requires a bit more oil than most. So, my oil changes can add up. The quote started at $59.95-$15 for a coupon I had. Great! Sign me up. But when he was done with all the extra charges for the special oil filter and extra oil, the total went up to a little over $100! I explained that was quite a bit more than I was used to paying (around $75). He asked me how much I was used to paying. I started- "Well, at the Midas [that I love dearly] in Austin..." He interrupted! "I'm not asking about Texas." I told him to go ahead and cancel my appointment. He handed me his business card (he was the manager!) and, as self-assured as possible, said, "I'll be talking to you again soon." Please. If I had to pay $200 for an oil change at a place with respectful employees, I absolutely would before I stepped foot back into this place. But that didn't even have to happen. I went to a very well-respected garage in Kirkland and paid...wait for it...$66.17 after tax. For all of that special stuff and everything. Not going back here again. My husband took the car in because of a grinding noise coming from the rear brakes. Turns out they were shot, but rather than just replace them, they advised him to have them re-level the same parts because, while more expensive, it could be done in one day without having to order new parts. We didn't care about the time to order parts, but the guy stressed to my husband that it was better if we did it this way. Two days later, the car is making grinding noises again, so we take it back. The verdict: The parts are too far gone and the brakes are starting to warp and now have to be replaced. Oh, but they won't charge us to replace them, just for the replacement parts. I'd like to point out that we already paid for a more expensive process than necessary and now we're going to have to pay for replacement parts anyways on top of it? I think not. Update - So the $750 I spent "fixing the oil leak" turned into another $800 dollar repair from Greg's Japanese auto, after oil leaked all over the distributor and I had to go ahead and replace the entire part. While "getting it fixed asap" is a nice mentality, that is not the same as "shove the customer out the door". Fortunately thanks to my new mechanic's work, my old Camry is running just fine - especially considering its age! read more

Ok, never judge the book by its cover. You might think at first that the manager behind the desk (Robert Chatelain) is kinda rude. As it turned out, he is just being direct, do not want to lose your time with sugar coated stuff, and just want your car be fixed asap. I was there because my Honda need a new ELD (electric load detector). I left to work and came the next day. Mike, the mechanic (has been working for 50 years) who diagnosed the car explained to me the whole thing. He knows what he's talking about. The ELD (bought from Honda dealer) cost 89.99 (I bought after market $30 and turned out to be the problem = defect). The labor they charge $ 50. If I go to other auto shop, I can be charged to more than $200. I approve this message! read more

Spent $400 on a starter on August,2016 and today, less than 19k miles later (probably 17k or less but I have to call and check, I have only owned the car for 20K miles TOTAL purchased Feb 16) and today was left STRANDED with a starter that would not start, and was SMOKING! A horrible stench of burnt sh*t filled my car. When I called regarding this DEFECTIVE part, I was told my warranty was up already, they only have 14k/1yr warranty. The SECOND TO LAST time I started my vehicle before it left me stranded and started smoking was 150 miles out of cell range, 30 miles deep into the National forest. My safety was put at risk. There are no tow trucks when you are out in a cabin with your two pets and partner 2 hours into a national forest, let alone that region of Washington. Got it towed to an INDEPENDENT mechanic near my house as my regular shop, 2 miles down the road from Midas is closed on sun/mon. He quoted me $300 for a BRAND NEW STARTER with a LIFETIME warranty as well as 2 year labor warranty, and is replacing it tomorrow. He told me upon inspection I was given a remanufactured part, which Midas did NOT tell me. I was told by the desk guy, who by the way spent 30 minutes combination flirting with me/ telling me how he just broke up with his girlfriend etc, just to receive a DEFECTIVE and DANGEROUS part that could have left me stranded in the backcountry with a completely dead vehicle. We did not see a single other soul in that forest, we would have been SCREWED. When I asked Mr. Flirt the difference in price, he told me one was cheaper but was not of "top grade quality" and likened the difference between silver and gold. He did not tell me one was USED and one was OEM. You had better believe I will be calling at 8AM tomorrow questioning for a refund, as I have barely put over 18K miles on the starter that died and started smoking. I am absolutely livid that my safety, my partner's safety and my two pets safety were put at risk. Not to mention my partner's employment, as we had not seen a single soul 1.5 hours deep into the national forest for 4 days, we would have been stranded there a loooong time before what, having to push my car 30 miles down gravel forest roads to the nearest town, and waited for a tow truck and waited for it to be repaired? The sh*tty engine noise it made right before it died was the noise it ALWAYS made before cranking, I **TRUSTED** Midas and figured that's just what my engine sounded like upon cranking. No, it was a defective crappy starter. I believe I was short changed and sold a defective starter, and I believe I was discriminated against as a woman. if you are a woman, or any gender, TAKE YOUR CAR DOWN THE ROAD TO INGLEWOOD AUTO REPAIR. Jim has NEVER ripped me off in my life. I am sick of these sleazy chain shops where they flirt with you and then do a POOR job, overcharging you the whole way. I will consider amending this review to 3 stars if I am offered a refund. I am beyond livid about this. If it had died its slow death two starts sooner, or any NUMBER of times I was without cell range in a national forest, my life would have been at risk. No one is out there in the national forest. I got a brand new battery, what I THOUGHT was a new starter (less than 18K miles), and new spark plugs and ignition coil because SAFETY is my absolute objective when going out in the backcountry. I expect Midas to refund me for this abomination of a "repair" or I will absolutely be contacting the Better Business Bureau. This was shocking, and awful. I cannot believe this. If I am told "oh sorry" without a refund I will be absolutely shocked that you can treat your customers this way. You essentially lied to me about what kind of part I was getting, sold (for 25% more than other mechanics charge) a DEFECTIVE part that started smoking, and flirted with me in the lobby while doing it. I would have been pissed if this happened at any time so soon outside the warranty period, but the fact that the 2nd to last start before it died and smoked I was so far removed from any cities or help or even tow truck range, I am absolutely livid. I am just going to tell you what happened, without making any judgments about motives, and let you draw your own conclusions. I have been around a long time and I am often very cynical. I do not have too much difficulty drawing a conclusion from what I observe, but I can be wrong. So, I went to Midas several months ago for an oil change. I am presently disabled from working, so a discount coupon for a $20 oil change got me into the shop. It was a hot day, so I had my air-conditioning on, as well as the radio. Apparently, during the time that the technician was doing the oil change, he left my ignition key in the on position, but the engine was off. The doors were open, so the interior lights were on, as well as the headlights. The air-conditioning and fan, radio, and bell chimes for the open door all continued to run for the half hour minimum that my car was up on the lift. The shop manager came to tell me that my battery was dead after they tried to move the car out of the garage. I was warned that this battery could now be a liability in the future, because it would not be able to recover its' full capacity as before being drained. ( I had bought the battery at a salvage yard and did a load test on it when I installed it. In a load test, you run a significant electrical drain on the battery for five or 10 minutes, while the engine is off. When you start the car, a voltmeter attached to the battery will give you a reading of the remaining battery strength while the car is being started. It gives you a pretty good worst-case scenario idea of the strength of your battery. My salvage battery produced a good reading on the voltmeter, meaning at that time it was a good battery. ) It is true that an automobile battery will lose some of its strength over time, even if it is then hooked up to a battery recharger, or is recharged by the alternator while running the car. I knew that my battery going dead at Midas was not a good thing, but I wanted to see how well it could recover before I consented to buying a new battery, whether at Midas, the salvage yard, or later at Walmart. The shop technician gave me a jump to get my car started and I left. This battery happened to have some higher end cold cranking numbers when new ( the amount of juice you can expect the battery to produce while starting the car on a cold day ), and the weather around Seattle does not get bitterly cold, so I was hopeful that my battery could live to see another day. Since then, after being recharged by the alternator and just normal operation, the battery has not failed to start my car right up every time and I have not had any issues about having enough power for the simultaneous operation of any electrical devices in the car. I have not done a subsequent load test on the battery, but I am not at all worried about it performing through the winter time around Seattle. The battery does not show any signs to me that it would have trouble around here this winter. I have had this car while living in the mountains in Colorado, and continuous subzero weather over long periods of time. The six-year-old original equipment battery got me through two winters at 8000 feet, so I know that this big salvage battery that I have now will be fine around Seattle. It turns out that I did not need a new battery at Midas that day, even though the oil change technician killed my battery by leaving every electrical device and drain on the battery going for upwards of 30 minutes. read more

Oil changes are very convenient here, and I appreciate that they go over things that your car may need in the near future (like brakes). I have had a very difficult time finding trustworthy service in the past when it comes to any sort of auto mechanics work. Now the search is over, Jon is the one who typically works on my cars, but I trust any of the guys here. Please keep these guys happy, and at this location. My husband had truck issues while we were on an out of state camping trip, we didn't want a dangerous breakdown while pulling a 32" trailer. The guys at Midas got his truck fixed the same day and even had by given him options for the repair. We didn't want a full pricey ac compressor replacement at this time like they could have told us we had to do. Instead they figured out a much more affordable fix that allowed us to get the problem taken care of bypassing the full overhaul.
