Communication was inconsistent, and when I tried to get clarity on things, I felt brushed off and not taken seriously. It didn't feel professional, and it definitely didn't feel respectful. What stood out to me the most is that this business presents itself as Christian owned. As someone who values that, I found it disappointing because the way this business is ran doesn't reflect those values at all. Faith should show in how people are treated - not just in what's advertised. I also didn't feel very comfortable during my interactions. The tone and attitude I experienced made the situation more stressful than it needed to be. I try not to leave negative reviews, but I think people should be cautious. Make sure everything is clearly documented, ask questions, and don't rely on verbal promises. I personally wouldn't come back or recommend anyone giving business here. This buy-here-pay-here seems to be a scam targeted at people who can't afford anything else and people who can't afford the proper legal representatives to fix the messes they may get into doing business here.

We had taken good care of the car so when my mechanic told me that the only thing wrong was a "small leak in the flex pipe" we told him to fix it just in case. 8 hours and over 500 miles later we were shocked when it sounded like we were riding a Harley because...you guessed it....the flexpipe had completely fallen off. Enter Tommy and AAR. Unfortunately he was closed by the time we reached him but we left the car at his garage and stayed at the Holiday Inn up the street. The next morning, as soon as he got in, Tommy and his co mechanic, whose name I unfortunately never got, brought the car in. (He even bumped a local customer because he heard about our road trip and wanted to get us moving ASAP) Within minutes they had diagnosed the problem and were on the job. After only a few hours we got the call that the car was ready and sure enough it purred like a kitten. My mother brought it back to the hotel and we loaded up, but OH NO, the check engine light was still on! We immediately drove back to AAR and showed Tommy, who delayed lunch to put it back on the lift and check it out. It was soon diagnosed as a loose connector which he put back together and secured. When all was said and done Tommy got us back on in 4 and a half hours, only charged us $150 and was one of the kindest, most hard working individuals I've ever met. I could never recommend him enough, whether you're local or you get in a bind you should go to AAR. Oh and did I mention that Tommy texted me to check up on the car and our trip? Highly recommend!

Picture this: It's the 4th of July weekend. I've got the family loaded in the van for a 900 mile…read moredrive from Philly to Northern Michigan. About 100 miles in I start to hear a slight clanking at the front of the car. The transmission? Something loose? For the next 100 miles I pretend that I don't hear it. But it gets worse and it even starts to make the van shake slightly. By the time we get into Ohio I decide I gotta get it checked out. But where? I find a national chain repair shop and stop in and explain my situation. The earliest they could check it out would be in a week. Ugh. I stop at another major chain. The dude at the counter leans over, looks both ways, opens his wallet and pulls out a card. "Put this address in your gps, tell um that I sent you from x auto service. They'll take care of you." So I drive into downtown Mansfield, find the address, and pull around back to AAR. I explain my situation and the guy I talk to drops what he's doing to check it out. We drive about 30 feet and he has it diagnosed as a bad axle. A bad axle. I'm thinking this is bad--it's about 5:00 pm on Friday night of a holiday weekend. We go back to the shop and the other guy calls their parts guy. The parts guy says that he'll have the new axle sent over first thing in the morning. The AAR guy says it'll be a little over 200 bucks and I should be on my way by noon. I'm thinking, "seriously? It's gotta be too good to be true." So we get a hotel room and the next morning (Saturday) I show up with the van (plus coffee and donuts). No BS about waiting outside. In just over 2 hours--the van is almost 20 years old and it's a VW after all--they get the job done! They even took the time to add the proper oil to the transmission and check on a couple of other things. But the new axle was exactly what I needed and the van worked great for the rest of our trip. Smooth sailing. If you're looking for a guy in a bow tie at a nice service counter you should probably go somewhere else. If you're looking for a dude in a lawn chair and some good ol' boys that know how to fix cars, not just sell tires and brake jobs, than Affordable Auto Repair is the place for you.
