I am new to the area and recently experienced some trouble with the AC on my 2011 Silverado. It…read morewas simply not blowing cold. I was in the neighborhood of one of the large retail muffler and brake shops, so against my better judgment, I decided to let them look at it. I was told by the manager that my AC compressor was bad and that I needed a new one. The manager claimed to be an HVAC expert and quoted me around $650 to do the job. I was not convinced, so I began to look for a local mechanic. I must say that I stumbled on Mid-Ohio Automotive with a simple Google search. Bryan (the owner) was very professional yet somewhat skeptical (based on his years of experience with HVAC) about the information I had received from the chain store. Bryan suggested I bring it in and let him take a look at it. I agreed. Well, am I glad I found this businessman! He did all of the diagnostics and advised that my compressor was working just fine. One possible reason for the AC malfunction could have been a bad contact with the temperature gauge. It's odd, but it is definitely not a faulty AC compressor. The AC is blowing cold now, so I decided that I am just going to drive it and see how it goes. If I experience trouble again, I am definitely going back to Mid-Ohio. In short, Bryan is honest, fair, and extremely knowledgeable. He will not advise you to do any work that does not need done. He uses only quality parts and should be recognized for his upstanding business practices. If you live in the Mansfield area and are in need of a mechanic you can trust, do yourself a favor and take your vehicle to Mid-Ohio Automotive at 85 S. Illinois Avenue, Mansfield, OH.

I brought my car here for a full head gasket replacement, which is not a simple fix. This 12+ hour…read morejob involves removing the cylinder head, all intake and exhaust manifolds, and every associated gasket, meaning the entire compression system of your engine is being reset. By agreeing to do this repair, the shop assumes full responsibility for restoring proper cylinder compression. Instead of competent work, my car sat with exposed cylinders for a full week before they slapped everything back together improperly. Cylinder #4 now holds no compression at all; something that was perfectly fine when I dropped it off. This is 100% the shop's fault, and the engine is now near totaled. When I called to ask why the car wasn't working, they threatened me over the phone, claiming they would lien my car, and actually called the police to file a "no trespassing" order so I couldn't even attempt to retrieve my own vehicle. Instead of taking responsibility and redoing the work to give me a properly functioning car, they are trying to recoup time and money through intimidation, fees, or a lien and potential resale. This shop is actively pressuring me into a corner, refusing documentation, denying fault, and leveraging threats and deceptive practices rather than doing what any competent shop would: fix the car properly. Let me be very clear: the failure in compression is 100% due to their negligence. Anyone considering this shop should know that they will destroy your car, lie about the condition, and try to intimidate you to avoid taking responsibility. Your car, your money, and your safety are not safe here. Avoid at all costs.

The owner is a hot head. Don't believe me? question him about his diagnostic skills or repair prices, you'll see. Be sure you keep all your receipts, because he'll try and get you to keep paying him forever if you lose one. Ask any repair shop in Mansfield about the owner's reputation. I did and have yet to find one that disagrees with me. They usually have their own story to tell about him. He's one to avoid. He seems rather unstable, just my opinion. Feel free to form your own.
