I am new to the area and recently experienced some trouble with the AC on my 2011 Silverado. It…read morewas simply not blowing cold. I was in the neighborhood of one of the large retail muffler and brake shops, so against my better judgment, I decided to let them look at it. I was told by the manager that my AC compressor was bad and that I needed a new one. The manager claimed to be an HVAC expert and quoted me around $650 to do the job. I was not convinced, so I began to look for a local mechanic. I must say that I stumbled on Mid-Ohio Automotive with a simple Google search. Bryan (the owner) was very professional yet somewhat skeptical (based on his years of experience with HVAC) about the information I had received from the chain store. Bryan suggested I bring it in and let him take a look at it. I agreed. Well, am I glad I found this businessman! He did all of the diagnostics and advised that my compressor was working just fine. One possible reason for the AC malfunction could have been a bad contact with the temperature gauge. It's odd, but it is definitely not a faulty AC compressor. The AC is blowing cold now, so I decided that I am just going to drive it and see how it goes. If I experience trouble again, I am definitely going back to Mid-Ohio. In short, Bryan is honest, fair, and extremely knowledgeable. He will not advise you to do any work that does not need done. He uses only quality parts and should be recognized for his upstanding business practices. If you live in the Mansfield area and are in need of a mechanic you can trust, do yourself a favor and take your vehicle to Mid-Ohio Automotive at 85 S. Illinois Avenue, Mansfield, OH.

Awsome! I get there and talk to the manager which is great, i give him my key and he said someone was going to grab it, i dont like people driving my car usually but no biggie, hes just driving it in. he then took it for a test drive to see how it felt. i understand but i like to be present in the car for that at least. i have a dashcam that is very hard to see so he didnt realize it was in the car. i have a tuned car and ROB the employee that went to get it was driving it very hard and then parked and went through my glovebox. he talked bad about me and the car to the other technicians that work there. after they were done he took for another test drive and was even more rough on it. i viewed the footage as soon as i got back in my car and noticed the rough driving but i can understand the urge. only after i got home and looked at all the footage saw and heard the rest. I don't appreciate the way he abused my car and then invaded my privacy by going through my glovebox. Also, if anyone knows Rob please tell him to learn to drive manual better because grinding gears going into first while stopped is idiotic they did do a good job on the alignment though

I asked them to just put it in. No problem. According to them, I had the wrong bulb so they got another one and installed it. I went to get the original to return it, they said my bright light was flickering so they put the other bulb in there. My brights were not flickering. All this done without checking or contacting me. I checked the fluid level on the power steering- filled up to the top! Way past fill line. This could have popped the seals on the pump and created more problems. They lost a lug nut, put on a chrome one; didn't even tell me about that either. They don't care about you or your car- they just want to do it as fast as possible to get to the next job. Doing unauthorized work, making stuff up to do more work and not telling you everything that they did. I won't be back, go there at your own risk.

Communication was inconsistent, and when I tried to get clarity on things, I felt brushed off and not taken seriously. It didn't feel professional, and it definitely didn't feel respectful. What stood out to me the most is that this business presents itself as Christian owned. As someone who values that, I found it disappointing because the way this business is ran doesn't reflect those values at all. Faith should show in how people are treated - not just in what's advertised. I also didn't feel very comfortable during my interactions. The tone and attitude I experienced made the situation more stressful than it needed to be. I try not to leave negative reviews, but I think people should be cautious. Make sure everything is clearly documented, ask questions, and don't rely on verbal promises. I personally wouldn't come back or recommend anyone giving business here. This buy-here-pay-here seems to be a scam targeted at people who can't afford anything else and people who can't afford the proper legal representatives to fix the messes they may get into doing business here.

I'm from upstate NY and before My mother and I left for a cross country road trip we made sure to…read morehave my 2004 Jetta checked out top to bottom. We had taken good care of the car so when my mechanic told me that the only thing wrong was a "small leak in the flex pipe" we told him to fix it just in case. 8 hours and over 500 miles later we were shocked when it sounded like we were riding a Harley because...you guessed it....the flexpipe had completely fallen off. Enter Tommy and AAR. Unfortunately he was closed by the time we reached him but we left the car at his garage and stayed at the Holiday Inn up the street. The next morning, as soon as he got in, Tommy and his co mechanic, whose name I unfortunately never got, brought the car in. (He even bumped a local customer because he heard about our road trip and wanted to get us moving ASAP) Within minutes they had diagnosed the problem and were on the job. After only a few hours we got the call that the car was ready and sure enough it purred like a kitten. My mother brought it back to the hotel and we loaded up, but OH NO, the check engine light was still on! We immediately drove back to AAR and showed Tommy, who delayed lunch to put it back on the lift and check it out. It was soon diagnosed as a loose connector which he put back together and secured. When all was said and done Tommy got us back on in 4 and a half hours, only charged us $150 and was one of the kindest, most hard working individuals I've ever met. I could never recommend him enough, whether you're local or you get in a bind you should go to AAR. Oh and did I mention that Tommy texted me to check up on the car and our trip? Highly recommend!

Picture this: It's the 4th of July weekend. I've got the family loaded in the van for a 900 mile…read moredrive from Philly to Northern Michigan. About 100 miles in I start to hear a slight clanking at the front of the car. The transmission? Something loose? For the next 100 miles I pretend that I don't hear it. But it gets worse and it even starts to make the van shake slightly. By the time we get into Ohio I decide I gotta get it checked out. But where? I find a national chain repair shop and stop in and explain my situation. The earliest they could check it out would be in a week. Ugh. I stop at another major chain. The dude at the counter leans over, looks both ways, opens his wallet and pulls out a card. "Put this address in your gps, tell um that I sent you from x auto service. They'll take care of you." So I drive into downtown Mansfield, find the address, and pull around back to AAR. I explain my situation and the guy I talk to drops what he's doing to check it out. We drive about 30 feet and he has it diagnosed as a bad axle. A bad axle. I'm thinking this is bad--it's about 5:00 pm on Friday night of a holiday weekend. We go back to the shop and the other guy calls their parts guy. The parts guy says that he'll have the new axle sent over first thing in the morning. The AAR guy says it'll be a little over 200 bucks and I should be on my way by noon. I'm thinking, "seriously? It's gotta be too good to be true." So we get a hotel room and the next morning (Saturday) I show up with the van (plus coffee and donuts). No BS about waiting outside. In just over 2 hours--the van is almost 20 years old and it's a VW after all--they get the job done! They even took the time to add the proper oil to the transmission and check on a couple of other things. But the new axle was exactly what I needed and the van worked great for the rest of our trip. Smooth sailing. If you're looking for a guy in a bow tie at a nice service counter you should probably go somewhere else. If you're looking for a dude in a lawn chair and some good ol' boys that know how to fix cars, not just sell tires and brake jobs, than Affordable Auto Repair is the place for you.
