I am not a patient of Mid Florida Eye in Mt. Dora but on two occasions, I took my 5 yr old grandson there to have his glasses adjusted. Amanda was very helpful, kind and friendly regarding assisting us with this request. We walked in, were greeted with care and kindness and adjusted his glasses (you know that a little boy can be tough on glasses!) very nicely. I have been to an eye place closer to me in Tavares where I get a barage of questions whether " he or I am a patient there, did we buy them there, & you have to make appointment just to have an adjustment! Too much hassle every time I took him. And I was a patient there! I should consider changing to Mid Florida. Diane S. read more

The care that I have received here has been mostly outstanding. Their third party supplied telephone/answering system...SUCKS. And I mean SUCKS. I couldn't get a real,genuine person on the phone, and I tried numerous times. I HATE Robot "assistants". If only I could require the owner(s) of the business to go through. "Our system has changed, please select from the following options". Press one for... press Twp for... press three for... then when you press the appropriate number, it rings and rings, then you'll get another recording, which states " if you press one, you won't lose your place in line, we'll call you back!!!"...so you do so, and after a few minutes, it calls you back... but then you'll get get yet another recording..."please press one for the concierge" (part of this message is cut off). So you dutifully do so... and it either won't "take", or it hangs up. Go through this 4 times, then It starts calling you back... you press one,as instructed... won't "take". After the third callback, I had my wife push the #1 button... repeatedly...she says "hmmmm it doesn't work!!!"....Lovely!!!! I spent over an hour's time. Never did get it to work. read more

I had cataract surgery at Mid-Florida recently, and while everyone's experience will be different, I was very impressed. Staff was professional, friendly and helpful. Best of all, my vision has markedly improved, and I still have to get the other eye done. I'm lucky to have good insurance, so no issue there. You should bring your patience, as they can get behind at times. read more

Tried to make an appointment, just switched to Medicare and Humana PPO (I have not received a Humana card yet). Wouldn't make an appt for me (having an issue with my eye) because I didn't know my Humana ID #. I said I could pay, but still wouldn't make an appt. Not very helpful. Will continue to search for another opthamologist. read more

horrible school lunch cafeteria quality workman shup. went too a private school with the. - SELF- PROCLAIMED- owners daughter - MADALINE GOLDY, who threw a rock at me while I ran right past her durning gym class ( uncouth person throwing a rock like a spoiled brat) hit me in my eye and cut it open. the private school did nothing but watch as my eye watered with a cut right in the eye. litterly a cut in the eye and a private school just watched did nothing. the OWNER MADALINE GOLDIES MOM, was "payed" a visit. she mumbled like a warthog then gave me what I needed. the ethics of this place is garbage. read more

I had Laser Cataract surgery, I have had a wonderful experience with Mid Florida Eye Center, They are all nice and caring and really go the extra mile to make you feel comfortable. I had two very different experiences in one visit, ergo the three star review. First, the good: The front desk staff was friendly and personable, which is greatly needed in any sort of medical setting. I get tired of feeling like I'm inconveniencing a place with my presence, so it was refreshing to be greeted, thanked for coming in with my paperwork, and advised about my wait (or more importantly, the lack of one). Marty handled the initial part of my exam, taking all my patient history, and discussing what would be done on my visit to get an updated prescription. She answered all my questions (I tend to ask a lot) without a hint of annoyance and was just as friendly as the staff I'd encountered at the front desk. Then came the Doctor. He was friendly, but that's where the good stopped. I made the appointment to update what I felt was an out of date prescription. It was my understanding that I would be able to get what I came in for at the end of my visit, although they needed some additional information about my previous one. The doctor put stuff in my eyes for the sensitivity test without informing me to take my contacts out, resulting in orange contacts. Then, without warning, he took the contacts out of my eyes. You know what's not comfortable? Having someone stick their finger in your eye without telling you. Not to mention that I would have preferred taking them out myself. He also kept repeating himself throughout the visit and making the same jokes, as if he wasn't aware he already told them. I happen to prefer a Doc who can remember what he said from one moment to the next. Since my record said I was breastfeeding and they won't do the eye dilation when this is the case, he told me that they would have to wait until I "weaned" to finish the visit. I asked if I could at least get my updated prescription before then (the baby is 3 months old...it may be a while) and he kept repeating that he couldn't complete the visit until I weaned. I was confused and frustrated when I left. Fortunately, I called to follow up and was able to speak with Marty again, who was able to get me the contact lens I needed in order to update my prescription. Had I not encountered the actual Doctor at this place, it would have been a perfectly pleasant and productive experience. With the Doctor? Not so much. read more

Make sure you don't don't overpay! Accounts with a credit balance do not get statements and credit amounts are held in a separate account and do not show up in your profile. I discovered this when asking a question about an invoice & had carried a credit balance for over 2 1/2 years! They blame it on their "system" . Luckily,the woman I talked with voluntarily found the credit balance and applied it to current charges. She has more integrity than the Doctors who own the company. They refuse to change the billing program! read more

Went in today for a Retina Exam for a check up due to a issue that has been monitored for over 20 years. Just moved to Florida and never use Mid Florida Eye Center. Well, somewhat conflicted as feeling I got a quicky prescription update and retina exam by the doctor. Maybe it was ok, but no where close to the exams that Ive experienced at other eye clinics over the years. Told me I have cataracks, made appt to see the cat doc but now Im not comfortable going back there...It may be nothing but they did not leave me with a good impression, both the doc and gal that updated my script for the refraction. Dr Ponsi doesn't seem to have patient care at the forefront. Have been to the offices 3 times and he has been late for 2 visits. The front office doesn't seem to be surprised with the behavior. Very disrespectful. But he is happy to take the insurance money... read more

They're eye docs so they get the job done but it's a cattle house. They move a lot of patients through their offices but if you want to feel that a doctor actually cares about you, I recommend going elsewhere. They only know you because they have a chart in front of them and even then they missed some things with my mom. Neither of us felt like anyone cared about her as an individual. We found someone else in Eustis that we like better. read more

Not good. My eyes are in good shape and I have had many exams before with no problems. When the lens machine was put in front of my eyes,(so I could choose the sharpest letter), all the letters were blurred! I could not see anything clear. I asked if the lenses were dirty and was told... no....you must be steaming the lenses up. I readjusted and looked at the lenses and they looked dirty. I mentioned it again, because everything was blurry. She would not check the lenses to see if they were dirty and told me everything was suppose to be blurry,so I could try to see a difference. I kept saying I can't see anything clear... not a problem...get on with it. Thank goodness I did not need a eyeglass prescription.Either she was doing something wrong or I can't see letters I normally can see. read more

I accompanied my 90 year old father in law for an eye exam this morning and couldn't have been happier with our appointment. Due to medical issues my father in law was very apprehensive about this visit. Diane went out of her way to make him comfortable and alleviated all his worry. We left after receiving a thorough exam extremely happy and glad we had chosen mid Florida eye for this visit!! read more

Medicare advises medical providers that medicare patients should not be billed up front for their deductible. However, this eye clinic said it was their policy to collect the deductible. I paid and have been waiting over 6 weeks for my refund for overpayment. I am never paying deductible again until I see where Medicare applied it and who I actually owe it to. read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Bauman's ever since I moved to The Villages and have never had a single complaint. I know there is a lot to be accomplished in a visit to the Clinic, but last week when we were there, the visit took three hours. A lot of this time was spent just sitting and waiting. I was diagnosed with a ulcer on my cornea in my left eye while on vacation, by the VA in Buffalo. When I returned to Tavares, I made an follow up appointment with the Leesburg office. I was told by Dr. Charles that my eye was healing and to use "Tears" for a week and return for a visit in a week. When I returned, I was told everything looked good and Dr. Charles will see me in a year. After a couple days my eye became more and more irritated. As my exam took about 5 minutes by the Dr., for both visits, I did not feel comfortable going back to Dr. Charles. I made an appointment at the Mt. Dora Clinic with Dr. Baumann. He diagnosed me with a bacteria infection and wrote prescriptions for both oral and eye drop medications. When I went to pick up these meds at Walgreens, I was told the eye drops would cost $300. The pharmacist said he would contact the Dr. to see if a comparable generic could be substituted. When I did not hear back from Walgreens, I called the Clinic myself the next day, and the next day, and the next day only be told that they would get back to me. On the fourth day, I asked to speak directly to Dr. Baumann, who was not in. After being placed on hold for about ten minutes, I was told that someone would call me back in a few minutes. This call actually happened. The assistant from Dr. Charles office let me know of a substitute eye drops that they were writing me a script for. As I had researched this medication myself 4 days prior, I already had pulled coupons for and found CVS would be the least expensive. I was able to direct the prescription to be called in to CVS. I will be reviewing the entire situation with Dr. Baumann next week at my follow up appointment. This review will remain until then. read more
