I've now had 2 disappointing experiences with this shop. The first time was with my BMW, where I had to bring it back multiple times because a warning light kept coming on. After several returns, they finally resolved it. Fast forward several months later, against my better judgment, I decided to bring in my other vehicle, my GMC for 2 issues: 1) replacing a cracked left side mirror, and 2) diagnosing and fixing the check engine light. They had my car for a week, during which I had to rent a vehicle. On September 10th, I got a call that my car was ready. I paid the bill over the phone, dropped off the rental, and my wife drove me to pick up my "repaired" car after hours. To my disappointment, the moment I started the car, the check engine light was still on. I thought maybe the system just needed to reset, so I drove it home, went to gym--but the light never went off. My question is: why return a car to a customer when the main issue hasn't been fixed? Now I'm left wasting more of my time either bringing the car back again or paying another shop to finally address the problem. read more

I had my car serviced here for a very long time. Overall I thought they had taken good care of my car. The last service was for my air conditioning and they replaced the compressor and condenser, only to find out the evaporator was also in need of replacement. They didn't find the evaporator issue until I had brought the car back in at least 4 times. Those 4 times my car was taken apart and put back together so much that it now rattles and I still don't have AC. Finally took the car elsewhere and found several issues with previous work that had been done on the car. Specifically the spark plugs had been installed incorrectly causing issues with the car starting. It is now working and running well, although I'll still have to pay someone to fix the AC at some point. The techs were always super kind and helpful, just not sure they had the right people working on my issue. Unfortunately, after years of service here, I won't be going back. read more

I have been a loyal customer here for well over 10 years. At this point, I don't even call or ask for pricing because I know it will be done correctly. Mike and his team are second to none and I will never consider another shop for any of my vehicles. I have sent more than 10 different kinds of vehicles from imports to domestic, from cars to SUV's. They make the sure the job is done right and also make sure every customer is treated as their #1. I know this because I have sent many friends there with ZERO problems. very upset with these people. had my car towed to them because my engine had blown. After having to call a few times to see what's going on with a diagnostic on my car they told me my engine blew. and that thought it wasn't expensive at all for a another engine to be put in the car (600) they where going to charge 2500 for labor making my total 3000 and change. I told them I could not afford that and after I got off the phone with them and did some digging I could find someone to fix it for about 2000 cheaper. Upon having this discussion with them regarding that suddenly they could bring the cost down to 1900. still not as low as I could get it and then Mike makes a comment about "I don't know how you was able to get it down to that." Then took my discount away for the diagnostic so I had to pay the full price for that (157.62) He must've been salty bout me taking my car elsewhere because upon the new tow (AAA) arriving to get my car they tell the tow guy that my car would be going too another shop because they are less expensive. Causing the rude ssa tow too charge me an additional 105 (total $200) to tow my car else where. I am livid I even chose this place on the first place because they set you up and there prices are disgustingly high. 178 an hour for labor is robbery!!!! And yall cost me an extra 105 dollars. We had the worse experience with this establishment. We went for an oil change 10/31/2020 and " mysteriously" we left with a leaking power steering hose. When we took it back to ask them what they did and why they didnt diagnose this they took the vehicle, re-inspected and they said it was nothing they did but they could fix the faulty hose. Because we couldn't drive it safely we had no choice but to have them repair this. A few hours later they find another problem...$626 later it was finished. They overcharge their customers without the proper explanation and they do not hold themselves accountable whatsoever when we believe that they caused the problem. We will NEVER return for service to the Lube Center or to the repair shop ever again. They are dishonest and gave us horrible costumer service. read more

My wife took her car in to get two new tires (the others were replaced a year ago after leaks). They gave her two new tires like the ones she had and claimed her other two that had just been replaced a year ago needed to be replaced too, she declined. They also said her tires needed to be aligned so they got it up to align the tires then said she needed a new tie rods (no place had ever suggested this and she's never experienced any symptoms of bad tie rods). Well when she declined they said they couldn't align the tires so they got it down and let her check out and pay. Low and behold, the tire alignment was left on there and they said because they had it ready to do an alignment they charged her. Um what?!? You don't charge people for services not rendered, that's borderline illegal. They then said "we won't charge you when you get new tie rods". To me, that's like saying we won't charge you this $100 when new tie rods are much more expensive. Bottom line, this place has some shady business practices when you charge for services not rendered at the time of service. read more

I was at mid-atlantic auto repair because my tire was completely flat and had a nail or screw stuck in it. The manager Clyde was with a client and basically said he could not do anything for me and turned me away. Oscar on the other hand said he'll knock it out and it literally took about 5 minutes and i was very grateful because I would have been stuck there for my tire was running on it's rim. There were two other guys that helped me I didn't catch their names but the other guy mentioned that he's a supervisor in the billing or cashier department im not very sure but they were both very helpful and accommodating. Took my car to get it inspected and found two dings on my driver door and witness it happen thru the waiting room window. Also when my tires were taken off for the inspection found a scratch on rim that wasn't there before. read more

So I came in to get my A/C looked at and they knew what the problem was in less than 30 min. It was the compressor, they found me a part and gave me a deal! The repairs were done in about an hour and a half!! Highly recommend, very friendly professional people!! read more

They have won my business moving forward for myself and everyone I know's car needs. The moment I walked in I was greeted by Clyde who made me feel so invited into the space. He was talking about the day and told me "you will be treated like family here, so I hope that's ok" - OF COURSE! I've had terrible experiences of being taken advantage of but here they kept in touch with me all throughout the day and didn't do any unnecessary testing/repairs when they could have just like every other repair place. Today, Mid-Atlantic Auto Repair lost two long-term customers- my husband and I. On Monday, my husband dropped off his car. His check engine light was on, and our code reader said it was the purge valve. He wanted to confirm what needed to be fixed and also wanted a 120,000 mile maintenance service. After 1 hour of diagnostics, the tests were inconclusive, so the service adviser, Micheal Clark, called to ask if my husband was willing to pay for additional diagnostics. He agreed thinking it wouldn't take too long. After 6 hours (!) of diagnostics, Michael called to tell my husband they found several issues, including the purge valve (which our code reader found). The diagnostics cost $720 ($120/hour). That price didn't even include any of the repairs. We were floored and declined the repairs. On top of that, the 120,000 mile maintenance cost around another $700 including $45.95 for a cabin air filter that costs around $18 on Amazon. The brake fluid was also charged at $56.40 for a unit. Brake fluid is around $10-18 a liter which is what a typical tank needs. How much did they use?! The labor for the brake fluid flush was charged separately, which is understandable. We both have been going to Mid-Atlantic for over 4 years and never have had this type of experience. I cannot believe that it cost over $1400 for diagnostic services and a 120K service for a Jetta. read more

I love this place. They are usually pretty quick and they do a good job. I use all three services - the car wash, the oil change, and the repair shop. They might not always be the cheapest, but sometimes they are. They are good about explaining everything and telling you the prices up front - and they are pretty accurate with the time estimates too. Juan is my favorite mechanic - he's hot. So, here we go again.........yet ANOTHER great experience here! Let me back up. I should have wrote this review a long time ago. About almost a year ago, I had my truck towed here. It was locked up so to speak. The techs (Tim, and manager Mike) started trouble shooting and told me I DEFINATLEY had two bad lifters. I'm no dummy to autos and I had suspected this myself. (after more research, this engine had a design flaw from the factory, unfortunately I was out of warrenty) Let me say also, this wasn't a swindle deal, I never told them what I suspected. After talking to them a bit, I found out that to fix just one lifter was going to be about $1500. Mostly because the engine heads had to be completely removed. Also, the likely hood that only one or two were bad was slim and none. To repair all the lifters (and still have design flaw) would have been in the neighborhood of like $4000. Whoa! This was due to all the labor that it would take, as well as parts. (btw, I did get a couple more estimates, and they were all in the same price range). So, Mike calls me the next day and suggests that I get a new, reconditioned engine which would be just like brand new PLUS have a full 3 yr 100000 mile warrenty AND have design flaw fixed. This would obviously be more money, but only by a few thousand. I know, it's alot! But why spend $4 grand and ONLY have new lifters when I could have a whole new engine. Made sense to me, so I gave the go ahead. The whole duration, from ordering the new engine to instalation completion, was 1 week. I thought this was pretty quick! When I picked it up, they informed me that the new engine was showing pretty low oil pressure, not where they wanted to see it. To my surprise they had already talked to the engine dealer and had a ticket claim number started. The dealer wanted me to drive it and let it break in to see if this fixed the problem So we did that. Long story short, the problem never corrected no matter what they (the dealer) had us do, so Mike told them to give me a new engine. Of course the dealer didn't want to, but Mike stood his ground for me and sure enough, they consented. He said what's right is right, and he would make it that way even if he had to never use them again. Right on! So, after another week, the next engine was in and doing great! The workmanship was top notch, and everyone there was courteous, friendly, and very knowledgeable. These guys know what they are talking about. (BTW, they made the engine dealer pay for my rental too!) Now, just last week, I needed a new battery and called em up. Not only did they have one in stock, but at a VERY fair price with installation too! So, Mid-Atlantic Auto Repair is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED by me. Again, Mike the manager, Tim the shop forman, and Mark the service writer/assistant manager are all stand up guys who give their all. My husband and I have been taking our vehicles for routine maintenance for a few years now. Everything from a simple oil change to replacing our catalytic converter. We recently came here to get our A/C compressor replaced. We bought the part and paid them for the labor to keep some of the cost down. They replaced the part then proceeded to tell us that our battery light was on. (We had just replaced the battery so we were unsure why it was coming on) The car had been in their possession for about 5-6 days at this point. They told us that the alternator was producing more "juice" than it should. So we asked them to run a diagnostic and they tried charging us $125 for it. The assistant manager also swore up and down that none of his technicians had done anything wrong. If a light comes on while the car is in your possession then you should honor your work and find out what went wrong. We ended up taking the car home and had our regular mechanic look at it and found that someone had cut our grounding wire to our alternator. My husband called and spoke with the assistant manager and were assuming he already knew one of his technicians had messed up and told us to bring the car back to splice the wire. The battery light instantly went off. While they ultimately fixed the problem, it was ridiculous that someone made a mistake and didn't own up to it. I don't appreciate wires being cut on my vehicle and then being told we need to replace an expensive part on my vehicle because of the negligence of an employee. read more

There is a new auto repair shop in town: AAA Crofton/Gambrills Car Care, Insurance and Travel. Before going to AAA for an oil change, (synthetic oil for my SUV), I called Mid-Atlantic for a quote. I gave them the make an model of my SUV and was told the "basic" synthetic oil change was about $68 with the tire rotation of about $29. But when I asked that he define "basic", I was told that my SUV may take more quarts. Well, I gave the the Make and Model again, which then raised the price to about $83. Well, I took my SUV to the new AAA. They did a complete service check, i.e. brakes, fluids, etc. Change my oil with 100% synthetic and rotated my tires all for $63. With the $10 coupon they gave me for getting an insurance quote, I paid $53. A very big price difference.... Too big to ignore. read more

AVOID AT ALL COSTS. First, this shop far overcharged me for the cost of replacing my busted radiator, but I paid it just because I was far from home and in a bind. It turns out that the radiator they installed was faulty as was discovered when it started leaking 4 days later. When I contacted them, they claimed that it was not their fault and fully denied my request for a free repair or a refund. I am filing a report with the Better Business Bureau, but given another opportunity I would push broken down my car down the highway by myself to find another shop. read more

First, let me say that I have been a customer of Mid-Atlantic Auto Repair pretty much since they opened. For years I thought highly of them since they did good work. A couple of years ago a new manager took over, and since then prices have increased, and I have noticed what I think is padding of the bill with excessive labor for diagnostics. My most recent experience though is the reason for this review and why I will never go back to Mid-Atlantic. My car broke down on Saturday afternoon while my wife was driving it. The car simply stopped running suddenly. I went to rescue her, but I could not get the car re-started. While the engine was cranking, it would not catch. My thought was that it either was not getting fuel, or there was no spark. We had it towed to Mid-Atlantic. On Monday, they called my wife and told her that the battery was dead (which it was not when dropped off), and that the fuel pump had died. Since the battery is only a bit over 2 years old and under warranty from AutoZone, she said not to do anything with the battery but gave the okay to replace the fuel pump. When I picked up the car yesterday afternoon, I questioned the diagnosis of the battery. They told me that it was dead and would not hold a charge. They said they charged it for 3 hours and got no response. So, I asked them to move one of the cars next to mine, so I could jump-start it and go to AutoZone. They said to go ahead and try it, that maybe there was enough charge from when they jumped it to move it out of the bay that it would start. I said, "I though you said it would not hold any charge. Why would it hold anything for even an hour or two like that?" They just said to try and if it did not start, they would bring a portable starter out to jump it. Of course, the car started right up. I went to AutoZone and told them the story and had them test the battery. Of course, the battery tested good. So, there are a couple of possibilities here: 1) Mid-Atlantic does not know how to check if a battery is any good. 2) They are lying through their teeth and just wanted to sell me a new battery. I'm leaning towards #2. Normally when charging a battery, it is removed from the car and hooked up to the charger. That clearly was not done in this case, as the clock still had the correct time and all my radio pre-sets were the same. They could have reset the clock and copied and reset all the radio buttons too, but I doubt that any repair place would take that amount of time to do that. They could have also tried to charge the battery in place in the car, but that is not standard procedure. Bottom line is I was charged $240 for diagnosis labor only to have them tell me something untrue. The did repair the problem. I was told and paid for the replacement of the fuel pump and the car is now running. I did not ask for the old parts, so I can't know if they actually did that or perhaps it was really just a clogged fuel filter which they cleaned. In any event, given that they attempted to rip me off for a new battery and I feel like I was over charged for the diagnosis, this was the final straw in no longer trusting them. The fact that they ended their Loyalty program doesn't help either. They did not provide any notice of the program ending. You just had to find out by visiting their web site. Fortunately the awards could be cashed in through August 31st, so I emptied my account for $75.00 off this repair. Had this happened this weekend instead of last, I would have lost that too. read more

Mid-Atlantic Auto Repair took advantage of me because I'm a woman and I'm from out of state. I went to this shop approximately 10:30 AM to obtain a Maryland State Inspection, they didn't finish until 2:30 PM. State inspections are only suppose to take between 1 to 2 hours. After sitting there for so long, they informed me I FAILED the inspection due to needing an alignment and rear brake ware. They advised me I would need to have the repairs done to pass... totaling $1000.00. Labor was more than the parts. I have a Honda Accord and never failed my inspection, recently had an oil change from the dealership two weeks prior to having my inspection and was advised "I would eventually need rear brakes, however it wasn't bad". After informing the mechanics they stated "well, you don't need brakes, just some hardware for them"... okay whatever that means. Well, I also informed them I had an alignment done recently. They then stated "well, we can perform the alignment free of charge and take off $50.00". The prices are outrageous. I honestly believe they preyed on me because this is my first time having an inspection done in Maryland and being a woman. I'm very disappointed, I have always obtained excellent customer service when taking my car to be washed at the Auto Spa and never expected to be treated this way on the repair side. The only positive thing I can say is they offered me something to drink and the guy who sits at the front desk was very respectful. The following day I took my car to another location and PASSED my inspection... they advised I contact the Maryland State Police Automotive Safety Enforcement Division (ASED) to report this... and to think I almost considered paying them that ridiculous amount. read more

These guys exemplify courtesy and professionalism. They replaced the pinion seal on my truck... Did upsell me to go ahead and replace belts I had already noticed needed replacement. I normally wrench things myself, but these guys did it for a fair price that made it worth letting them do it. Outstanding service, friendly staff, easy arrangement for rental for day. Once I find someone I can trust with my ride, I stick with them. Plus, they cleaned the truck as part of the package. These guys are the standard against which others will be judged. read more

DO NOT USE THE LUBE CENTER OR THE AUTO REPAIR (MID ATLANTIC AUTO) ON RT 3 IN GAMBRILLS. I went to the lube center to get an oil change on my wife's van, during the oil change they broke the valve stem on one of the wheels. They said it was not their fault. I aske them if their sister auto shop next door would fix it. They said yes they could. Now i have a flat tire. So I told them to put in a new valve and sensor. I told them I think it's fair that i will pick up the price of the part and they pick up labor. Of course they said they will not work with me. Now $210 later they could not get the sensor to work or get the light turned off. It is now noon and I got there at 8am. They ordered a new sensor and still could not get it to work. I looked online and found on youtube on how to fix it. I got out of there at 6pm. so don't use these people. All of this over $60 labor. They raped me on the sensor for $130. read more

as a follow up to my bad experience at the gambrills auto center ....the window/door was fixed at waugh chapel exxon keith did a great job cost was $495. 00 almost half the price of the clowns at the auto center ($900) keep in mind the original qoute was $2800 would never recommend this place to anyone and would suggest they hire competent employees. the owner needs training on how to handle situations involving customers read more

Great service here! My Jeep Patriot's air suddenly stopped working and I got scared as there was a weird smell & refrigerant looking stuff coming out of my vents! (Clearly, I don't know much about cars). So I basically rushed to the closest place I found on Google, plus this place was recommended from my mom as she's gotten oil changes done at the place next door. Anyway, they got my Jeep right in, same day. I waited for a while (through no fault of their own, I had no ride, so was stuck there for 4 hours lol). I had to go back 3 weeks later to fix my knobs and they were honest & helpful with what I needed etc. I never felt like they were trying to screw me over or steal my money. Best place to get your car fix the right way! I've taken my car here several times and never had one problem. Everyone is friendly and the techs show you what's wrong with your car and what is needed. i recommend this place to everyone. It can get pricy but it's a lot cheaper than the dealership in my opinion. And it's 10 minutes for oil change. read more
