Super cute 3D show. A bit of a hidden gem in California Disney Adventure and a nice opportunity to sit indoors if you need a quick break.

Importing (you could also say "recycling") a semi-decent 4D movie from Florida's sister park, Disney's California Adventure has now added Mickey's PhilharMagic to its attraction list. This colorful show is a great opportunity to rest your feet and cool off after a long day in the park, and it's enjoyable enough if you're a fan of Disney's animated films. The attraction touts a 4D experience which basically means you are given 3D glasses and watch a movie where water is sprayed on you and scents are piped into the theater at appropriate times to match what's on screen. It's fine, but nothing extraordinary. The movie takes viewers through classic and modern animated films from "Fantasia" and "Aladdin" to "Beauty and the Beast" and "Coco." it features classic scenes and songs from the films, and most people in the audience tend to sing along (which makes it even more fun). Donald Duck fans will also love that he plays a major role in tying the whole thing together. It's whimsical and packed full of classic Disney characters, fun effects, and playful surprises that are appropriate for the whole family. My favorite bit is "Be Our Guest!" The theater is large and comfortable, but it's a real bummer that it replaced Muppet Vision 3D (one of my all-time favorite Disney attractions). To this day, I still get a sense of sadness whenever I go into the old Muppets theater. Mickey's Philharmagic isn't anything groundbreaking nor something I'd even consider a must-do, but it serves up plenty of charming, cheerful, and lighthearted fun. read more

Best time to see it? Anytime! Hoping it wil lbe open during the Avatar attraction construction. This is one of my favorite things to do at Disney California Adventure! Not only is this show in the Sunset Showcase Theater in Hollywood Land one of my favorite things but it has so many benefits like----almost never having a line. That's a hugggggge plus! This 12 minute show also offers a respite in air conditioning while you sit back and watch the 4D show of songs & mayhem with Donald Duck helming the ship of chaos. I love this show ~so~ much but I do wish they'd make some updates to modernize and clean it up a bit. However, I'm fine with it as is, as well, and will be singing along very softly the entire show every time I go. I'm a private room karaoke qween. Songs included are Be Our Guest, Part of Your World, I Just Can't Wait To Be King, and You Can Fly plus the creepy broom song from Fantasia. To be fair, they did add Un Poco Loco from Coco in 2021 so it's not like they've made zero updates at all to this film. Though that song makes the most sense for this - in terms of bangable hits, Don't Talk About Bruno is a way bigger hit? But I digress! But though I am complaining about updates being needed, just wanted to point out there was that 1 update to it 4 years ago. As an adult, I loved this, but I am a Disney Adult, Disney Freak, Disney Geek - whatever horrific slur you want to bestow upon me!!!! LOL I'm one of them, sadly, and so my bias is that I automatically love most things Disney, Pixar, Star Wars, Marvel, etc. But even with my bias, I feel like I'm fairly fair haha and I really do think it's enjoyable for ALL ages! This is my very first time experiencing Mickey's PhilharMagic here in Disney's California Adventures. I know they had updated with Coco a few years back but I've never seen the original so I have no point of reference and I've heard that this is a lot better and everything is updated. The gist is that Donald Duck gets transported into a lot of the classic Disney movies and he interacts with the characters while they're singing their classic songs as he tries to hunt down the sorcerer's hat. It's a mix of 3D and there's even some cool animatronics. And what I like about this is you're in an auditorium with AC is nice. One tip is to not rush into the auditorium because once you get in there there would like you to scooch all the way down to the far right so if you don't necessarily mind that and if that's was what you were expecting then that's fine but if you're wanting to closer in the middle then choose your spot a little bit easier and wait until there's some people in the line already. This is definitely a fun show if you've never been. It's also great on a hot day or if you're feet at hurting and you want somewhere fun and relaxing. read more

If you need a break from the blazing sun this is a great option for a cool down. You'll be directed into the lobby. Once doors open you'll proceed to an open seating theater. Plenty of room, every seat is a good view. 3D experience is cute with some wind action during flying scenes. I'd prob make this a regular stop in the summer or just to give my feet a rest. Mickey's PhilharMagic is one of those attractions that isn't as full as it used to be but when it's hot or if you need some rest, this is a great spot to do so and enjoy a good show. I do appreciate that they've added a few scenes from newer movies which is nice. The seats are comfy but they are plush/velour which give me a bit of the ick as folks are covered in sweat and such and I wonder how often they clean them. Regardless, if you like Disney music and want a little rest out of the SoCal heat, definitely give this show a chance. One of the rare shows these days. read more

Hubby, our daughters and I really enjoyed this 12-minute, 3D movie! In fact it will probably be one of the most memorable experiences that we'll be returning to again and again! I won't give too much of the movie short away, but you'll enjoy singing along to several Disney classics with some comedy mixed in, thanks to Donald Duck! I would highly recommend this fun movie, especially if you're sore and tired and looking to relax! I know we were! I absolutely loved this show! It's in the Hollywood area. There's a small waiting area and once you get inside they have a large theater with many seats. They also provided 3D glasses as well. My kids wanted to sit in the front so we did. This is a very fun show. I loved it. My kids enjoyed the whole show and sat through the whole thing. It's very interactive with screens all around you. I'd recommend sitting in the middle to see everything. Sitting in the front was great but we didn't see the side screens. Great show, highly recommended if you're coming to California Adventure. read more

It's a 3D glasses show with some effects like blowing wind, rumbling, and just a wee bit of water. Shows happen every 15 or so minutes and the cast members at the front will let you know when the next show is going to start. I don't think I've ever seen a completely full theater, so there's a lots of seats available and they encourage guests to move all the way if need be. The plot follows Donald Duck's antics as he loses Mickey's magical wizard hat through the musical scenes of several Disney classics such as the Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Lion King, and Aladdin. I believe, the Coco scene was added to the original as I don't remember that part from years and years ago and it looks quite updated in comparison to the other scenes. What's really neat is that the entire theater space is used as the projections are shown all around you, so that's a pretty cool extra thing to observe. As well as a funny surprise at the end too. I sat through one of these "magical" performances with my family. My nephew loved it to be honest. This is for the kids. I could definitely skip this though, personally. But the positives are getting to rest your feet and be inside somewhere. That part is nice. Especially if it is hot outside or raining outside. It is located in Hollywood land at DCA. It's a 3D show; so, if you don't do well with 3D things or wearing glasses on your face, then you may wanna not do this adventure. This is really such a treat to watch, especially if you're a big Disney music nerd and consider the 90s Disney Renaissance to be the best era of Disney animation. It's in the theater where the Muppets 3-D show used to be, and to be honest, I think Mickey's PhilharMagic is an improvement! This is a 12-minute film, so it's a really nice short respite from walking around the park under the sun. Pretty much the premise is that Donald Duck messes everything up for Mickey and the whole orchestra by doing what he should not be doing--wearing Mickey's Sorcerer Hat. He angers the instruments, and gets sucked into a vortex that takes him through different Disney movies and iconic musical scenes while he tries to retrieve Micky's hat. My only gripe is this should be called Donald Duck's PhilharMagic, cuz Mickey hardly appears! But yeah, I love the posters in the queue that are spoofing real shows. I even got to tell my lady all about the origins of I Pagliacci, which has dark themes but I loved seeing the whale character in the spoof poster. 10-1-21 Dont be fooled by the waiting room because the side doors will open up to a larger theater. When given the signal, put on the yellow 3D glasses. It reminds me of the former Bug's Life theater without the feeling of something scrambling under your seat. There is still the gust of air and light wet drops from above you can feel on your seated thighs unless you are wearing long pants or a skirt. A good option for a quick shut eye if you need it out of the sun in a darkened setting. read more

Date of most recent visit: October 30, 2021 Mickey's PhilharMagic has been the replacement for the Muppets 3-D show since 2019; it's been a staple at Walt Disney World, and honestly I'm glad to have it here (the Muppets show honestly looked a bit dated). Basically, Mickey's about to conduct a musical performance, and Donald screws up by messing with Mickey's magical hat... which causes him to chase after it through various classics like Peter Pan, The Lion King, The Little Mermaid, Fantasia, Aladdin, and the newly added Coco. All of these scenes are in glorious 3D, and the visuals are very clear. The lobby area where you wait to be let in is spacious enough to allow for social distancing, and the theater is cool enough to provide a nice break during the summer months. Don't forget to look at the back of the room before the show ends - it's a nice holdover from the Muppets 3-D show! (I thought it was an Animatronic; nope, it's a screen projection...) read more

Mickey's Philharmagic is a 3D movie located at Disneyland's California Adventure within Hollywood land next to Monster's Inc Ride and Turtle Crush. Disneyworld also has Mickey's Philharmagic at Magic Kingdom. You walk into the pre-show area. My daughter and I didn't get a chance to see the pre-show, but we greeted by a cast member and informed to go straight into the opened doors right into the theater. The theater was relatively empty. We were also provided 3D glasses. We had great seats, in the middle of the auditorium. The show was a wonderful experience! It's one of my favorites at Disney World Magic Kingdom, Fantasyland, as well. It's a enchanting musical adventure where you'll hear classic songs from Peter Pan, The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Fantasia, and the newly recent added Coco. If you enjoy musicals, I'd highly recommend this show. The 3D aspects of the show isn't too bad, however, if you get motion sickness easily, I'd highly recommend avoiding the show. The room is air conditioned. It's a nice break if you're visiting California during the summer. read more

My husband and I went in here towards the end of the day when we were winding things down. Having missed it so often in Fantasyland in the Magic Kingdom, this was a good opportunity here. We were told upon entry that there was only about 2 minutes to showtime so we hurried in. We had missed the preshow but grabbed our 3 D glasses and sat inside a nearly empty theater. As the movie began Mickey was the sorcerer's apprentice leading the band and he ends up leaving and left the hat behind. Donald Duck becomes the new apprentice and takes you on a journey through some of the most famous songs of the contemporary Disney cartoon films. Seems as though Donald was always getting into some sort of trouble since the hat blew away and he had to chase it down. I did like his interaction with the Little Mermaid, Aladdin, and Peter Pan with their signature tunes. Somehow or another the hat is retrieved and Donald is reunited with Mickey. I also loved hearing the voice of Goofy offstage giving directions. The show lasts about 10 minutes and it's a great way to sit down and get out of the heat after walking around in the park. While not as good as the one at the Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World due to the peripherals, it's still a good attraction at Disney California Adventure that's often overlooked. Without giving any spoilers, it's a 3-D show featuring a collection of several Disney classic animated films including some newer ones. If you love Disney movies for the music, this should be right up your alley. Even if it isn't, this is a great attraction to go to just to get out of the sun during a hot summer's day. We were not so keen on this show, but when we saw the wait time is hardy 5 mins, we decided to watch it. It's a 12 minutes 3D show. It's about Mickey's music performance and Donald plays the spoilsport by messing with his sorcerer hat. Then he embarks a journey to chase his magic hat through various Disney classics. Beauty and the Beast, Fantasia, The Little Mermaid, The Lion King, Coco, Peter Pan, Aladdin etc were featured in it. Kids will love it. I think this used to be that "A Bug's Life" presentation, which my friend and I visited a few times due to ride malfunctions. Before entering the show there is a waiting room. There are some benches at the back of the waiting room so people with bad knees can sit down. They weren't occupied so I sat down to rest my aching legs from walking around the park all day. After a short time we were allowed into the auditorium and the presentation started, which was a musical presentation of Donald Duck journeying through various musical Disney animated films where everyone sings an iconic song from each film due to the loss of Mickey's Fantasia hat. There were some 4D elements such as water being splashed on us, though not that much. It is a welcome break from standing in the sun all day and waiting for other members of my party, though if one entered here for the music one should just get a Disney+ subscription so the volume is adjustable. read more

Wow!! I was born and raised 15 minutes from Disneyland and I've had an Annual Pass for the last 10 years. I often go with my mom and together we know just about all the fast, the bumpy, the relaxing, and the hidden... but neither of us had ever seen this before (just opened in Spring 2019) and we both fell in love!!! We had no idea what to expect but we needed to rest a bit and there was no line, so we grabbed the 3D glasses and took our seat. Adorable! Mickey's sorcerer hat is on the loose and a fumbling Donald Duck chases after it, this hat has some moves!! Super fun and active with many characters and scenes to enjoy. You take a wild visual ride through scene after scene with wonderful Disney music accompaniment. Definitely worth checking out! Classic Disney. Fun for all ages. Weeeeee!!! read more

My boyfriend and I did not know what to expect exactly as we got our 3D glasses and made our way into the theater right as the doors opened for the next show. But my hunches told me it was going to consist of a bunch of songs from classic Disney movies. The theater wasn't packed since I assume it was due to the park being too full, people noy knowing about the show, and other possible reasons. But that allowed us to be able to sit midcenter from the screen. Watching the show was a great experience with the usage of the screens on the side of the theater as well as the show keeping that small surprise at the end once the show finished. I loved the music they touched on, but wished they had cover more music because I've always been a Disney music fan and don't mind sitting a bit longer to hear more classics as the plot continued hehe read more

Once we get our 3D glasses and enter the old theater that used to house Muppet Vision 3D. Now, I went into this with somewhat low expectations. I knew it wouldn't be anything huge but I still wanted to rate it fairly. And yeah, this is a pretty neat show. So we enter the theater and the show starts with Mickey telling Donald to not touch his hat, Donald being the little piece of crap that he is however decides to touch it anyways and starts all of this chaos. We are presented with a multitude of songs including "Be our Guest" from Beauty and the Beast, "Part of your World" from The Little Mermaid, "I Just Can't Wait to be King" from The Lion King, "You can Fly" from Peter Pan, and "A Whole New World" from Aladdin before Mickey gets his hat back, launches Donald into a wall as punishment (Gee, if only I could do that to Ben every time he forces me to ride Pony Express at Knotts) and concludes the performance, thus ending the show. Overall, this is a pretty cute show that is defiantly a good way to get out of the heat during the summer since there is a BIG AC in there. It's nothing too special and it certainly isn't something that you MUST SEE, but i'd still give it a watch since it doesn't take up too much of your time and it is entertaining and will help you avoid the sun for a little bit. This was soooo cute. It is a 3D film that is still a tad bit new (barely about to be a year of existence). I didn't know what to expect we kind of stumbled on to the show. It wasn't packed- you seat yourself once the doors open. There is a waiting room that you enter beforehand. I was able to snag mid-center seats since it wasn't packed. The show is basically a mini movie about Donald Duck losing Mickeys Fantasia hat. We follow Donald Duck trying to retrieve the hat back. The hat travels through different worlds (& characters) including the Little Mermaid, Lion King, Aladdin, Petter Pan, Beauty & the Beast. There is even extra features like wind/water being shot into the audience to go with the scene playing. You definitely felt the nice breeze as you go through the clouds on a magic carpet. The ending was my favorite (I won't spoil it- it will definitely add that cherry on top). Overall cute little show that is worth seeing. read more
