The Baseline: For a theme park, quality experiences must be provided, fun amusement attractions be available, immersive environments must be established, and safety must be a top priority. Attraction: This is a room off the Animation building hub where you are free to draw animations and play around with exhibits (very interactive). I have come here post-Animation Academy to finish my drawing and pencils/paper is provided. If you want a special made souvenir from your Disney vacation this is a good place to spend a bit of time. Also the building has central air (cool for the summer/warm for the winter). My only ding is that part of the attraction is closed and I do not know what they are refurbishing in the old Beauty and the Beast area. Queue: No queue. Walk in and have fun. After the Animation Academy, my husband and I visited the Sorcerer's Workshop. It's right next to the Anna and Elsa Meet and Greet! Inside the Animation Building are other activities such as Turtle Talk with Crush and the animation Courtyard. The Sorcerer's Workshop was really cool! You'll see hands-on exhibits of the animators art. You'll see still images turn into motion! It's quite magnificent! We saw a few stations with Goofy and Mickey! We spent about 20 minutes inside the Sorcerer's Workshop! It was also nice to take a break from some of the rides and cool down in the AC! It was really hot out! read more

3.7 stars I heard Disney is replacing Sorcerer's Workshop with something else, so I had to revisit the place one last time. Definitely worth a quick stop if you've never been. The library within is gorgeous! Interior is very small, but most things are interactive and a decent activity for the toddlers. read more

The Sorceror's Workshop is located inside the Animation Studio in Disney California's Adventure. My BFF wanted to take me to the Beast's Library to take the quiz to find out which Disney character I am most like. I actually thought there would be a long wait to take the quiz, but the Beast's Library was on the empty side. There were a few stations with the "quiz" book and we just had to wait for one person to finish before I can take my test. First off, they take a picture of you! It was pretty cute and I especially like how they would let you retake the picture if the first wasn't perfect enough. After a series of questions, there is a great unveiling that tells you which Disney character you are like. I got CINDERELLA!! My friend and I thought that it was hilarious... especially since I have a Van-D-rella repp losing my heels from time to time after late nights of dancing. So now that it's confirmed that I am like Cinderella... I really need my faerie godmother to help me with Prince Charming. *sigh* In the mean time, I'll slave away at work... read more

Ever since I discovered the Animation Academy, I've been excited to do new things at the Disneyland resort. so I figured, why not try next door. Unlike Animation Academy and Turtle Talk, this isn't a show, so you don't have to wait for the next show time. The first area has different variations of a zoetrope. They all are kind of cool, but a little boring. A couple of them are traditional zoetropes where you look through the side or from the top to see the image move. There are other ones which are basically like flipcards that spin to animate with a magnifying glass above. The second area is really cool because it's the Beast's library. There are something like six machines that help you to animate a character. Above the faux fireplace, you can watch as the petals fall off the rose and once in awhile the room darkens and the prince's photo is ripped. Very cool. A third area is Ursula's cavern. There are three or four machines that allow you to read character lines or sing songs that are dubbed into the scenes. It's a trip to hear your voice as the Disney characters. I sang "Bare Necessities" which was awful, but you get the thrill of karaoke if only for 5 to 10 seconds. This is a fun way to waste time as you wait for the next Animation Academy, so give it a shot. read more

We showed up at Disneyland last night to discover we were banished from the park by Mickey and his Halloween Party! So we walked across the way to California Adventure and decided to see if we could get fastpasses for The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror before it goes away forever. The cast member informed my lovely wife that ever since Elsa and Anna had taken up residence in The Art of Animation Gallery exhibit, the water in the grotto had become too cold and Ursula had relocated to Florida's warmer waters! Even with Ursula's Grotto closed for the foreseeable future, there are plenty of fun things to see and do in the Sorcerer's Workshop! read more

I really like going to this hidden jewel in California Adventure since it is not too crowded and it is a fun way to pass the time. The first room has these different things that have images in them and when you spin them fast enough it creates a moving picture. You also have the option of drawing up your own images, with an example provided for you to copy or get inspiration from, and the. You could test it out for yourself as well. The next room is a replica of the Beast's library from the Beauty and the Beast animated version. There are stations you could either sit or stand at to discover your inner character, whether good guy or bad guy. I usually end up getting Alice as my good character and Ursula as my evil character she. I give it a go. I am sad that the next room has been closed off for a long time now since you were given the opportunity to sing or voice different scenes from the Disney movies. But here's hoping they bring it back! read more

I don't think very many people end up here, and that might be what makes it such a blast for my 2 year old daughter - especially during a hot day. Found deep within the Animation Studios building in DCA, this room is inspired by the Beast's library in Beauty and the Beast. It hosts a very cool looking faux fireplace underneath a screen that shows an image of the magical glass enclosed rose from the movie, and the ambiance in the room cycles from bright and uplifting to a dark and gloomy every once in a while. There are touch screen "books" where you can take a digital picture of yourself and take a short survey to discover which Disney character is most like you. (I'm apparently most like Mulan.) I only wish you could email the results to yourself the way you can at Buzz's Astro Blasters ride. Would make a super cute souvenir! read more

How did I *JUST* discover this ?! It's inside the Animation Studio {in Hollywood Land of California Adventure} towards the right of the entrance. Not sure how crowds get during the day, but on a Sunday night, it was basically empty. This place is definitely for the ones who are kids at heart and love the classic Disney movies! Normal kids would probably enjoy it too ;] Different rooms with different themes with different activities! My boyfriend and I spent a good amount in here: -Drawing on the strips of paper and trying (and failing) to make them come to life. (There are loud and scary voices/noises occasionally.. I noticed that it made a little girl cry!) -Seeing which character we "resemble" in the Beauty and the Beast library. -We had the most fun in Ursula's Grotto where you can "Act" or "Sing" - we chose Act! There are 4 short scenes from Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, Bambi and Lion King. It records you reciting the lines, then play the scene with your voices on the big screen which was hilarious! We were on the ground laughing - try it out and record the outcome on your camera/phone! On top of the fun little activities you can do, I thought the detail of every room to match the character/movie was AMAZING! read more

While not everyone's cup of tea when going to Disneyland or California Adventure, the Sorcerer's Workshop is worth going to for older fans of Disney movies. Check out Ursula's Cavern, where you can be a voice actor and be in a scene from either Aladdin, The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, or Bambi (I did Aladdin). My girlfriend chose the "Sing" option for The Lion King; Snow White is one of the other options. Too bad neither of us had thought to record ourselves... There's also a zoetrope room where you can see how figurines from Toy Story can come to life, and a character sketch room where the characters change every half hour. You should definitely visit! It's in the same area as the animation academy. When you walk in the animation building there's a sign that says Sorceror's Workshop and then a pathway leading you down. It's basically broken up into sections. The first one shows kind of how animation works. They have long strips of paper for you to make your own little short, kind of like when we used to draw figures in the corner of oages and then flip them to see the story. But here you put them in these cylindrical areas and spin them. The second section is Beast's Library and you take a little storybook quiz to see what character you are most like. I was SO disappointed. I am apparently most like Mrs. Incredible... So much for being a princess, haha. The third section is Ursala's area where she attempts to steal your voice by having you either act or sing. It's just short clips but it can be pretty funny. Personally I think the singing is easier because I know the songs but when I was acting I forgot the lines and didn't follow the guide fast enough. My friend and I sounded like a jumbled mess and then couldn't stop laughing. You should definitely stop by! It's some cute fun. Overall, I really enjoy this! This is something that is a walk through that you do all on your own. The first stop is learning how to draw animation. You can draw something yourself if you're so inclined. They have animation that you can manipulate to make it move - such as spinning it. In this room, Walt Disney keeps an eye on you. Really! Look up on the wall closer to the entrance when you're in here! The magic mirror on the wall is present, too! The second stop is Beast's library from Beauty and the Beast. Here, you can find out what character you're most like - hero or villain! The third and final stop is Ursula's cave from The Little Mermaid. Here, you can insert your talking or singing voice into a short clip. There's four for talking - Beauty and the Beast, Bambi, Lion King, & one more. There's four for singing - Jungle Book and three more. (Can't remember...) This is a great place to get out of the sun or the rain. It's fun for adults and children. read more

Little kids will like it if they've never walked through, as there are a few interactive items (like a digital book in the Beast's library and a "make your own moving animation" area), but just ok. In the first room, you see how animations are made and get to make your own too. Also the Magic Mirror is on the wall and you can find the Disney character that shares the same astrological sign as you. The second room is the Beast's library. In the library, you can find out which Disney character you are most like by taking a short quiz on the computers. If you stay long enough in the library, it darkens and changes from a light and happy library of the Prince, to a dark library of the Beast. The last room is Ursula's cave where you can insert yourself into a short movie clip either through saying lines or singing a song. There is a zoetrope wheel room, a Beauty and the Beast room, and Ursula's cavern. Disney provides long strips of paper and pencils, where people can draw a sequence of photos to mimic early animation methods. Just put it in the zoetrope wheel and spin to animate! Head on over to the next room in the Beast's library, where you can watch as his rose wilts and the petals fall. There are also magical books that kids can play with. Fun for adults! I actually managed to make a mini-animation. I was quite impressed with myself -- that's worth 4 stars in my book.

This is a fun place to hang out, waste some time, and cool down. I love the Beast's room. We have many times but just found Ursala's room and the acting and singing game where she steals your voice and plays it back. It was pretty fun even for a couple of adults. the coolest unkown place is DCA.... Walk into the store "off the page" and go through the back....You will discover so many cool work shops and interactive things to do with your kids. There is the Beasts Library where your kids can take a test on what Disney character they are, there is Ursula's Grotto where you can sing or act in a Disney movie scene, There is Scorceror's Workshop where you can draw disney characters and make them move (and watch how the professionals did it)and there is Turtle Talk with Crush where you can ask him questions!
