Yelp won't let me change my review to 2 stars but I would give 2 stars if I could their customer service is good the lady at the drive thru was nice and gave an extra donut. I don't like that there was no menu in the drive thru couldn't see what to order or what they have just had to guess. The prices were ok but the taste of the donut was so weird the dough tasted very salty I have never tasted a donut like that, the saltiness of the donut overpowered the sweetness of the donut. The best donuts ever! We tried Michelle's Donuts in Santa Maria for the first time while visiting family. We were extremely pleased with the selection. We sampled a crumb donut, chocolate covered, maple bar, chocolate bar, chocolate with nuts and glazed donuts. The donuts are very large and light with a wonderful yeast flavor and just the right amount of sweetness. They also added donut holes to the box as well! What a nice surprise! Where do I even start? Highly unsatisfied. Once asked for 2 filled donuts. 1 jelly 1 cream. Cashier completely ignored my order. Instead of informing they did not have the donuts charged me regular filled price and gave me a chocolate glazed & glazed donut. We went here after reading Andrew Zimmern's recommendation "I found worlds best donuts! Michelle's is it. End of discussion." We couldn't pass up a review like that! We were in the neighborhood to get Tri-tip, so we made a detour here in the afternoon. Donuts were still fresh. We had a buttermilk bar, cream cheese pocket and a raspberry & custard filled. Our favorite was the buttermilk bar. The dough was sooooo buttery and had a good yeasty flavor to it. More complex flavor than your average buttermilk bar. The cream cheese pocket has small chunks of cream cheese hidden within its flaky crust. Not too sweet - just delicious. The custard in the raspberry and custard filled was amazing. Smooth, creamy and fresh. The kind of quality you'd find in a French pastry. The raspberry was tangy with just the right level of sweetness. We are so glad we stopped into this unassuming, humble mom and pop shop that takes their craft seriously. Too bad we don't live nearby. I have had many donuts in my life time. This joint definitely has one of the best donuts I have ever had. The glazed donuts were made just right. Not greasy or too sweet. While you are there, try their boba. My fave is the thai ice tea (was told it's fresh brewed, not a pre mix powered). If your still thirsty after that, get the taro boba! I got lured into this classic donut joint en route to Rancho Bowl with the family during the holidays. It's nestled amongst a string of super sketchy motels and liquor stores on the North End of Broadway. Michelle's Donuts is the kind of place my parents took me on Saturday mornings in the 80's: coffee pot sitting on the counter, the smell of fryer oil in the air, yellow peeling formica surfaces: utter nostalgic satisfaction. They have all the classics and plenty of variety, from glazed donuts, cake donuts (plain, or topped with chocolate, icing, coconut, chocolate chips), buttermilk bars, old-fashioned buttermilk rings, bear paws, you name it. There's a big fridge case with juices and even - yep - milk by the gallon. Possibly the best part: a DRIVE-THRU window! Don't go here if you want a fancy French pastry or if you're on a diet.
