They have done well in reminding me of the cats' annual exams, which is great. They also stock a variety of prescription food and such--I have always been able to get my cat's medicated food and pills there easily enough. I started using this clinic when I first moved to Ottawa because of its location to my then apartment, it was very convenient for me. But, in that time my cats have seen a revolving door of doctors--all very good and friendly, but rarely the same one twice. So while the care was good, I have grown tired of explaining my cats' conditions every time I go in. Now that I live downtown, and it's no longer convenient, I will be looking for a new vet that will hopefully remember my pets when I bring them in. 2/30

Short version: Take your pet somewhere else…read more Long version: We were new to the Ottawa area and this place was a five minute walk from our apartment. Last year we decided to go with it since we had no recommendations and we needed to start somewhere. We were obviously spoiled by our awesome vet we had in the last town we lived in because this place is just awful comparatively. I'm a little wary of places that have too many doctors as I never get the same doctor or even the same receptionist, vet tech or vet assistant for each visit. Sometimes when I am in there it feels like the head doesn't know what the tail end is doing. Unorganized and scrambling around. They overcharge. They try to guilt you into paying for blood work, fecal samples and xrays you don't need. Upselling is so incredibly annoying to me, especially when it comes to the health of my animals. A vet recommended I feed my animal Science Diet. Science Diet is one of the lowest quality pet foods out there and can actually cause health problems (I guess they get more money that way down the line). I lost all confidence in this place after being told this. One of their many doctors my animals have seen pushed medicine in the form of a treat for my pet.. My pet wouldn't touch them. I called to see if I could exchange it for a medicine in drop or pill form that my cat would be able to take. I was told that the doctor that had seen my animal is not in and will call me tomorrow morning. Well tomorrow morning came and went and I never received a call back. I called them again and they told me they do not do refunds or exchanges on anything except food. I wish they had told me this before I paid 25 dollars for a 'treat' form of medicine that I was pretty sure my cat wouldn't take. They never mentioned it. Now I am stuck with a bag of medicine that is useless to me. I have dropped approximately 900 dollars here, the least they could do is absorb the cost of the medicine. Now they have lost my business and I will warn anyone who asks for a vet recommendation to stay away. I will be looking for another vet now that I know what type of place this is. It ticks me off when a vet's office cares more about money then the animal they are supposed to be caring for.

The exterior to this veterinary hospital can be deceiving. It looks like a house. However the…read moreexterior is the only thing unusual about it. When Bodhi came in for his appointment we were greeted by the receptionist who already had an idea of who Bodhi was. It was really nice to know that even after a phone conversation the staff seemed to take an interest in getting to know my puppy. We only waited a minute or two until we were showed the fairly sized examination room. The room is very plain with benches and a metal examination table. Bodhi saw Dr. McLaren. Dr. McLaren is very knowledgable. She told me what to expect from the breed (Bodhi is a chihuahua) and gave me basic information about how to address them. It was good to get this kind of advice on the first consultation. Dr. McLaren went over shots, medication and future appointments that Bodhi will need. It seemed like a lot of information but she assured me that if I had any question or needed any help that I could call and they would be happy to help. Bodhi seemed to have had a great time at the vet. He discovered he was a healthy puppy, that people are gentle and can be trusted and most importantly to him, Bodhi discovered his love for treats as the vet gave him several of them and he could not get enough.

I have been using them for years (more then 10) for shots and things, they put down 2 of my dogs…read moreover the years, one for Cancer and one for Old Age, but I never really NEEDED them, until last Saturday, July 27 2019. They had met my new male cat about 3 months previous for his rabies and Distemper first shots. Had him checked over and he is in excellent health. I got him to keep Maggy, my miniature Dachshund company. Her friend and my main dog had passed away at 15 years old, Chloe. Maggy had started barking non-stop if I went out and left her alone after Chloe died. So I knew someone and I got buddy and the barking stopped and they got along great. March 2019 was his 1 year birthday. Then around july 10 2019 Maggy passed away right here at home. She was also 15 years old. Buddy seemed to take it hard looking for maggy for about a week then he started to come around. Then on the 25 of July around 11pm Buddy started acting strange meowing a lot and he peed in the Tub and the Kitchen sink, which was weird? Then Friday afternoon he started throwing up. And he was making these painful screeching sounds. Then it all stopped for a while but he would not eat and he was not drinking. Then around 12am he started drinking and by 1 am he was peeing and squeaking in pain. I felt so bad for him and now he was peeing pure blood!! I was afraid of the blood loss also. So at 9am Saturday morning I walked into the vets office to make sure they were open then ran back and got buddy. I came in and told you it was an emergency and he was bleeding and lost a lot of blood! He was so weak he couldn't walk. Do you remember your answer to me after you looked at the other girl and the monitor? "Come back at 9:45" I was shocked and I said I don't know if he will make it another hour ! then you said "well sir we have other customers" as I looked around seeing I was the only one there. I said I am a customer and I have been a customer a long time and I need you to help my cat!! And you told me to come back at 9:45 I could not believe how heartless you bunch are to refuse to look at a one year old cat who has lost blood and still bleeding and in bad shape. I left and went to another vet that I have never been to before and when they saw the cat they took him from me right away no questions asked. They had him hooked on Intravenous within a minute to help his pain and more. Buddy didn't make it and I am sure your delaying his treatment didn't help. BTW, you sent me a card when Maggy past a couple of weeks ago. Maggy was a Dog and you sent me a photo of a cat? I won't need your services anymore, I would never bring another animal to put in your care in fear of what may happen should you fall behind schedule a few minutes. When I walked out of your office on Saturday with my half dead cat bleeding from his penis, I was disgusted with the way the situation was handled. Your business is all about money and nothing about the love of animals. And money was not even a question at the time. I probably ended up paying a lot more at a strange vet when they were swamped and there was no one in your offices when I left. I would not recommend these people to anyone.

We are not clients of this clinic but they were gracious enough to give us an urgent appointment last April for our cat Felix "fefe" who was clearly at the end of his life. He was very old and had stopped eating over the course of several days so we knew it was time. Our regular vet was on holiday but the BHVC was able to take us in right away when we explained the situation. It was a heartbreaking ordeal and was made even more stressful by the fact that we were unfamiliar with the BHVC, but the staff at the reception desk and our vet tech Julisa greeted us with kindness and compassion. Julisa in particular was absolutely amazing! I was total reck, but she was kind, understanding and supported us every step of the way. I was even more touched, when a month after fefe's passing we received a beautiful condolence card signed by all of the staff. Thank you again to Julisa and the team at the BHVC for all of your compassion and support during that difficult time. Brigitte and Ed

I had an amazing experience at Christine's!…read more Our lovely little fluffy kitty was terribly matted and we couldn't brush a lot of them out, let alone cut them out. His claws made that a tad difficult (like Samantha's kitty mentioned below!). We had about a 5 minute wait when we got to Christine's, and there was Christine, another lady and a young girl (about 12 who was off on vacation!) who all were super pleasant and just adored our cat. There were several other cats and dogs there who were all lovingly attended to. It only took about twenty minutes to clean up our little guy (shaved, trimmed and brushed) and only cost us about $20, which I thought was very fair. My only issue was that I couldn't find the correct address online! The address listed was apparently out of date, so we had to walk down Bank St. with a howling kitty until we found the "new" location. Don't worry Yelpers - we made sure we've got the right address posted on here! :)

They do an acceptable job, although they don't pay attention to detail the way my former groomer did (see Dogfather review - boy do we miss her!), but pooch looked cute enough. They don't clean ears unless you ask, and my dog will probably never look as wonderful as shown in pic above (taken in Toronto), but Christine's is in my neighbourhood, so it was convenient. At some point, they decided they would raise their prices, and not tell me- in fact, they DOUBLED their prices. My dog weighs 15 lbs, is well-behaved for groomers, and her hair is never very long as she is groomed regularly. They decided to charge almost $80 for a wash and brush (not a full groom folks!). When I suggested this was exorbitant, not too mention almost double the $45 they were charging before, the not-so-charming man at the counter shrugged his shoulders and said prices had gone up! When I said I wouldn't be coming back, as that is a ridiculous sum, he merely shrugged his shoulders again. Christine herself witnessed this conversation, and didnt say a word. Needless to say, I wont be going back, and having lived intermittently in this neighbourhood for over 30 years, I am telling everyone I know... PS my amazing former groomer - in Rosedale no less- charged less then these folks did BEFORE they raised their prices. Gee, who knew OOS was so posh? Next thing you know, I'll be spotting Jeanne Beker on our streets!
