Dr. Scarlett, I'm sure, save my baby's life. After a serious misdiagnosis from my first vet, having changed from them to the Gloucester Veterinary Hospital, I needed to bring my baby in to get checked before they could administer any medication/prescriptions. And it's a good thing too. I changed my vet for multiple reasons, mainly because something seemed "off" about my previous vet (See my review or Blackburn animal hospital) and because I moved. So I went to the veterinary clinic that my mother goes to and man am I glad I did. From the moment I walked in, the veterinary assistants knew who I was. "This must be -----" and they said it'll only be a few minutes as Dr. Scarlett is currently with another patient. They spoke to me and asked my about my dogs and were seriously interested. It wasn't long and finally I saw the Dr. Dr. Scarlett reviewed my baby's medical file before I arrived for the appointment and he flat out said "I don't think he has -------'s disease". He wanted to administer a blood test. And it wasn't a blood test that would cost $200 either. He just wanted to test the electrolytes that determine whether my dog has this disease. After reviewing the test and spending about 45 minutes with the Dr, talking about taking my baby off his liver damage pills because the pills he's taking for the disease could be causing the damage to the liver, especially because he doesn't have the disease. So we took him off the liver pills that night. Dr. Scarlett didn't want to just make a rash decision and risk the life of my dog either, so he said to wait a day and he'll speak to a specialist the next day, confirming the next night if we should stop the pills. Which, when he called me, said we should because the specialist didn't think my dog had this disease either. They both thought that as a puppy, he was just hypoglycemic, which is apparently common in puppies. So, gradually, with the instructions of Dr. Scarlett, we weaned my dog off the disease pills. Since then, he's gained a bit of weight (note that my dog weighs less than 2kg so a bit of weight on is a VERY GOOD THING).
Dr Scarlett doesn't beat around the bush. He tells it like it is. Which I love. If something's wrong with my kid - You tell me. Don't sugar-coat anything. Just tell me.
As for the other doctor in the building - Dr. McLaren - She's awesome as well. I hadn't personally spoken to her until a little less than a month ago when my baby started limping. (Apparently in small dogs of that breed, it's common for the knee to "float" in the joint). She was very knowledgeable and explained everything. She spoke to the specialist and she told me all about my options.
Both Doctors are phenomenal. Extremely knowledgeable and if they aren't sure about something, they will speak to a specialist to either confirm or deny or whatever, their theory. I will never change my vet, no matter which area of the city I'll end up in, I will forever stay with the Gloucester Veterinary Hospital. Especially considering they put the pet first. And that Dr. Scarlett pretty much saved my baby's life.
Also, if comparing everything in my review to Blackburn animal hospital and this vet's... When I go in to get my kid's NOW ONLY medication, I'm in and out of there by like 7 minutes. Even when there's someone there. If you call in advance (which I always do) they have the medication prepared and all you have to do is pay... which takes only a few minutes, as everywhere else.
I HIGHLY recommend this veterinary hospital. For all the reasons above and many more, I will scream it from the rooftops how much you should see this vet's office. read more
