During the summer, I teach hula dance at an art camp..THANK GOD for an art camp that goes beyond ceramics and watercolors! DANCING IS ART, PEOPLE! However, holding the attention of 16 hyperactive girls between the ages of 6 and 12 for an entire hour is hard work. Hula can be a frustrating dance! So thank God for beach-themed picture frame crafts and making flower clips! Courtesy of this Michael's, which never seems to run out of the supplies I need, even as my trips to this place double, triple, quadruple in the eight weeks of summer that I hold classes. My two greatest issues with this place are staff courtesy and store cleanliness. It's difficult enough to find an employee in this grandiose cathedral/Costco-sized store...when you find them, they have appeared rather condescending or annoyed that you came to even bother to ask them a question. Except for the guys at framing . YOU ROCK! Second is cleanliness. I understand it's an art store and that there is such thing as freedom of expression. But the floors aren't splattered with paint or abstract works of Cubism. I find lots of oddly misplaced items, and the floors look so dirty I feel uncomfortable walking on them WITH my shoes. on. In any case though, these things can be changed. What is most important to me is the quantity and quality of the products they carry, which thus far has pleased me as I carry out my mission of aloha for my students. read more

Where to start? The good stuff first... This store has a huge selection of products and it's sort of organized. It's the only reason I keep coming back, I really don't want to have to drive to the one in Porter Ranch. I needed help with finding a product that was discontinued (I needed it really bad for my wedding) and one of the employees looked through ALL of the boxes in storage to find it for me. I gave him my phone number to call me if he found it and he did! This was the ONLY good experience I've ever had at this store. Everything else about this store sucks. The employees are SO unbelievably rude and unprofessional. The lines are ALWAYS long because the employees take their sweet time. This Michael's definitely needs new management along with new associates. There are plenty of people who are in need of a new job and will do it faster and friendlier. Though this might not say much about this particular location, I have been to worse MIchael's stores. Let's just put it this way - I went in to find a particular chain and left WITH IT. Can't say the same for the Michael's in Burbank, can we? Clean, good-sized, nice selection, plenty of parking. I can't complain. Love the store, as a store. I love going in there to purchase scrapbooking supplies. But when it comes to customer service, the check out process, I give it a thumbs down. On more then one occassion my husband and I have been dissapointed with the service. Im not sure why I keep going back, because I can easily go somewhere else. As I am starting collect more and more autographs, a black sharpie can only do so much. I've seen hardcore people seeking autographs have special paint pens. I had searched at office stores, Home Depot, and someone told me to go to Michael's. I was in the West Hills area and found a Michael's Art & Crafts Store on the same lot where Burlington, Ross, and Wal-Mart are located. I walked in and an employee directed me to the Paint Pens. The Paint Pens ($8.99) are locked up in a cage because Paint Pens are dangerous...lol. I know...I know...its to deter taggers. I grabbed the Silver and Gold Package because my balls deserve the best. (You make up your own joke here) I was in and out of there fast since I had just one item in mind. Now, when I am at an autograph session, you'll know that I have my Paint Pens ready to be signed on my balls...OR...you can ask for my autograph when you see me walk down the street. Oh, Michaels... The only reason you get 3 stars because you have a damn good selection of stuff, (baskets, ribbon, yarn, vases, glitter, jewelry stuff, paint, canvases, craft sticks, pom poms, scrapbook paper etc) reasonable prices and good coupons. This sounds like a 5 star place, right? Sadly, the checkout lines longer than the queue for Space Mountain drag you down to 3 :-( This isn't even an issue of slow cashiers, really. The other day I grabbed my supplies, stood in line behind 6 people and waited a while. Once I got to the register, I was done in 2 minutes, tops.The problem here is that there was only one cashier. They do this even in the busiest times at this location. Management needs a lesson in scheduling. In short, don't go unless you have some time to spare. read more

I've been going to this place a lot over the years, but more recently it's gone downhill. The products I used to buy are gone half the time and replaced with useless and usually half good items, the flowers are almost never in order and the prices have gone way up to the point of being silly. The customer service is sad as well. While there's a lot of young kids to help you, they never know where most of the stuff is! The only ones that are useful are the older women and they're almost never there. I used to love going here, but now it's almost not worth it. read more

I come here on an average of once a week. They have some great sales periodically and you can't beat their clearance prices. I know in general this craft store can be pretty pricey, but luckily they have 40% off coupons which you can now access via a Michaels app on your smartphone. I love this Michael's. It's huge and has a great inventory. I can walk around for over a good hour. They have a great baking section now with stuff from Duff and Cakeboss. And they have classes for kids and adults for different kinds of crafts. There prices are a bit high but they always have great coupons that come in the mail. I was having a shipping emergency and needed to find some spray for a pastel drawing in order to ship it out safely. I found that Michael's carried the product so off I went. When I got there, I was not sure which product was the correct one, so I went to the back and spoke with the framing department. As it turns out, it was recommended that I refrain from using the adhesive and instead they directed me to some low cost frames and spacers which ended up saving me some money. Every employee that I spoke to was very helpful as well as the cashier. And very friendly as well. It was very nice to be at a place where the employees are actually present and helping rather than hiding in the back, never to be seen. I will go there again, the next time I have some artsy need. read more

The people that work here are not really experienced in crafts whatsoever, so don't expect them to be able to find that random item you're looking for. I do love coming here for seasonal merch and decor. I'm a halloween and christmas junkie so Michael's does offer some awesome coupons. They also allow you to combine a single priced item coupon with a total purchase % coupon. So that's good to know. They also allow smartphone coupons :) read more

She even caught that one of the frames I had selected had some damage. She made sure I got a discount that I was entitled to, but was not aware of as well. The saving grace of this Michael's was Denise. I'd called Friday morning and had two items, which most Michael's were out of, put on reserve for me. I arrive Friday evening and ask the only cashier for the items. She has no clue and seemed confused that anything could even be held. She spends a couple of minutes looking behind registers and then calls someone to help. The guy who came to help was more clueless than the cashier. No matter how many times I told him that the items were pulled off the shelf and held for me in the front, he kept going and looking on the shelves, then in the stock room, comes back to me with something off the shelf which is not the item held for me. He then calls for Denise. Now, by this time, I've already been there 20 minutes for something that should have taken 5 at most. Denise looks around, cannot seem to find anything held for me, but continues to look, as she can see I'm getting frustrated considering how far I drove to get there. Eventually, another 15 minutes later, she finds the items..... right where the first cashier and the stock guy looked for them and didn't find them. Denise really went above and beyond to find the items, was nice about it the whole time, and even gave me a discount because I waited so long for the items to be found. Were it not for her, coming to this store would have been a giant waste of time. read more

Never written a yelp review but after multiple visits to this store with the same results each time I must. I am especially disappointed in the cardstock and scrapbook paper selection. (I have not had this experience at other michael's stores. This is specific to this location.) The products are always in disarray, not organized or in the proper place (which would indicate the price) at all. Other products, like specific papers and x-acto knives are not stocked. After a particularly disappointing experience today, I checked online for specific items and according to the michael's website, they are in stock at this location. To make matters worse, I have never easily found an employee who can help me with out of stock or misplaced items. I will not be visiting this store again, however convenient the location is. I hope this store improves for the sake of other customers. read more

This store needs help in the framing area. The personnel are simply terrific but they are completely understaffed. They're touting that they absorbed Aaron Brothers but they haven't upgraded their inventory (color selection of pre-cut matting anyone?). Today (as last week), there was one person behind the counter assisting a patron. I was second and two additional people were behind me. In the 15 minutes I waited for my turn simply to pick up an order, there were three requests for the bathroom code and multiple "quick questions" of the woman behind the counter. The woman working the counter smiled, was knowledgeable and acted professionally. But if they want to use Aaron Brothers' name, they should provide better service and not force us to purchase matting from them when having a better selection of inventory could be readily available. read more

This place is a joke on so many different levels. The store is always a mess, and very unorginized, with things scattered everywhere. There is no "flow" to the store, it's all just kind of 'blobbed' around. The manage Michelle is a witch for lack of a better word. She interviewed me, and was rude, disrespectful, told me that I don't "look like a crafty or creative person"... I'm sorry but is there a "look" for that?! I explained to her that I had a small at home business where I design custom hair accessories for girls/women... Michelle just looked at me like I grew a 2nd head. She was dry, didn't smile, didn't give off a good vibe. Very POOR manager. Actully makes me laugh now that I think about it; the employees are just as rude, disrespectful and as helpless as Michelle is. I had gone in to get some supplys on afternoon, and an elderly women was there looking around for canvas, to paint. She had asked one of the guys who worked there to help her, and HE TOLD HER THAT THEY DO NOT SELL CANVAS. As soon as the women walked away looking disappointed, I walked up to her, and assured her that they did indeed sell canvas, and I walked with her back to the department, and helped her find what she was looking for, and helped her carry it out to her car. I DONT EVEN WORK THERE!!! I can only guess that I wasn't hired because I'm helpful, and hardworking, along with that I'm people friendly, and HELPFUL. Oh another thing, 1/2 the time the store won't except their own coupons... yea... try and figure that one out!!! Avoid this store... and the one in G.H, and Encino... Every now and then when I need some basic arts & craft or floral supply, I visit this store. It generally has things that I am looking for, but I would never visit here to do a whole laundry list of shopping. I'll leave that to the Joann superstore in Porter Ranch or the Michaels in Encino. It's a smaller store, often unkempt and dirty, with items spilling out of each section. The employees aren't particularly friendly or helpful and yesterday I had to stop in twice to get a refund of something I was overcharged. I purchased 35 of their discounted ornaments and was charged for 37. I didn't have the best experience at home going through the receipt and matching the UPC labels to the ornaments to figure out exactly how much they owed me. My time and gas already lost, I received exactly what they charged me extra for. I miss the days when stores or employees screw up and they make it up to you. They were very indifferent about it here. read more

I have been a loyal customer of this particular Michaels store for several years, but this is only due to it being close to my home and stocked with the supplies I need for my projects. If I had a car, I would drive farther to go to a different location for several reasons: 1. The store is always messy. Things are rarely re-stocked as needed. Luckily I know where the extra stock is kept on the floor. They are often out of things for several weeks at a time, and when asked if they can order more, the answer is always "no" (in some round-about BS way). 2. The employees are USELESS. I help at least two fellow customers myself on any given trip to this store. I once asked an employee if they had any more leopard print duct tape as he passed by me; he said no, they were out. As I walked toward the back of the store (in the direction he had JUST come from) I found an entire end cap display of leopard print duct tape. USELESS. 3. I happen to have pink hair... I'm an artist, for Christsake. I'm not a criminal nor a thief. However, almost every time I walk into this store, they call security over the loud speaker as if I'm someone to be watched. It's humiliating and unnecessary, especially considering the hundreds of dollars a month I spend there. I highly recommend Michaels as a chain; I do not recommend this particular location. If you see me shopping there, I will gladly help you find what you need. Just look for the girl with pink hair and an overflowing shopping cart. read more

I'm laughing as I read Nadia Y., Dawn S. and Samantha Q's reviews.......one, they didn't like THIS store, and in particular, one commented she isn't sure why she keeps going back.......which is something I've been saying all along, as well, and thus my appreciation and warped sense of humor for what they all said. This store is always out of things (at least that I want), the lines are REALLY, REALLY long (so where are the cashiers?), and honestly, I have argued many times with them about the long lines. Typically, I'm on my lunch HOUR and don't have all day to stand there in line.......and sometimes, I've stood and stood, without the lines moving. Invariably, there are people returning things or making exchanges, and it completely stops whatever movement COULD take place. That's probably my biggest gripe, and from what I see, with other reviewers also. Anyway, the Moorpark Michaels is more to my liking, and I rarely wait there. read more

This Michaels has some of the worst practices. I went in today and they told me I that I clippped the wrong coupon and preceeded to ring up my order instead of asking me if I would like to come back with the correct coupon. I went home, 2 seconds away, came back with the correct couopn to buy my item, then they tried to overcharge me by $30!!! All this after having to wait forever in line. Also my mother told me that last time she was in the store, she had a rude manager yell out to the cashier helping her that my mom would probably return the items she was purchasing. "Who works here? Where is all the staff?" I wondered as I walked aimlessly up and down the aisles trying to find someone to assist. Wasn't able to find anyone, so I had to go to 1 of the 2 cashiers for help w/ the items on my list. The poor people in line weren't happy about that, but what else could I do? "We are very short staffed" the poor cashier said. She was very nice and I felt bad for her. It took us over an hour to find all of the items that we needed because that store can be very overwhelming, especially to us 'not so crafty' folk. As if all this wasn't frustrating enough, then came the line. OMGeeeeeeeee! I really, really, really hate lines and this one was long and not moving quickly AT ALL. SO frustrating! Love the store but don't love the attitude! I shop at Michaels all the time. They have a variety of arts and craft materials, frames, paints, etc. I'm the type of person who wouldn't mind killing time and shopping at Michaels. However, this particular location loses its stars for having a few RUDE employees. Don't get me wrong there are some employees here who are very polite and I wish I wrote down their names because they deserve some appreciation for not drinking the hateorade. For example, I walked in before closing today and the lady blocking the front door rudely said, "we close in 2-minutes". Ok, that's perfectly OK except she said it with an attitude! I wasn't going to be rude and take my sweet time shopping thus, having the employees work later... Nope! I was just going to quickly grab something... I can't help but feel that she has a preconceived idea that I was going to be a rude costumer therefore, motivating her to give me attitude which was uncalled for because I was never intending to do her wrong in the first place... 30-seconds later a different employee approached me and politely said, " we're closing please make your way to the front when you can". See, that wasn't too bad! I then decided that I should probably grab more things and to not be a rude customer, do my shopping at an earlier time tomorrow... As I was walking out the lady blocking the door sarcastically said "thank you have a good night". I couldn't even say anything back... But if I did I would have said, "Lady, you may be having a bad day but so was I, and it's never okay to displace anger on to your costumers" Anyway, I didn't catch her name... I've had a few other encounters with rude employees at this location and would like to thank those who have been nice. There wasn't much of a selection in this store but it carries the usual Michael's items. It's smaller than the other locations and it may be a bit disorganized. AY AY AY!! there is something about this location that makes it the UGLIEST/DIRTY one of them all (the ones I have been to at least) They completely changed the check out area since the last time I was there (way over 2yrs maybe) so now it's designed to where you make ONE line and you just go to which ever register is available. The different departments/sections whatever you want to call them are ok except for the kids isle that is always a mess especially that plastic thing where they sell $1-$5 dollar stuff that thing is always soo messy and completely dirty. I just think they need to really do something about making it look nicer, I don't know what though??!!!!!!!!!! that really frustrates me when I walk in to places like this one, bad management?? lazy employees?? dirty customers?? what??!! I just don't know but something should be done because it is in a GREAT location, nice neighbor hood so it really needs to step up its game. This is a good Michaels. Nicely stocked. Prices are a bit competitive however.Purchased my own frame and bought their matting to make the photo look as custom as possible. Used a coupon to complement the purchase. Use coupons, its the only way to save here. Like ALL Michaels, its hard as hell to find an associate. They need to do better with hiring more to help.
