We bought a Christmas gift that literally broke while we were still opening gifts. This was gifted to a gentle kid who was not using it outside of the expected use, and a piece broke off. I took it back to the store and the employee man-splained to me that even though it was broken, it still worked. He actually located the item on Amazon to show me what part was missing. I LITERALLY WATCHED IT BREAK. It was beyond insulting. I finally said that if he wasn't going to exchange or refund, Id like to leave (he kept the item this entire time and wasnt giving it back). Additionally, we bought a lionel item for a family member who had a duplicate. They had a record of the sale in the computer and still found a way to deny an exchange of an unopened item. Stores like this are why Amazon thrives. Even when I try to buy from the little guys, they find a way to make me regret it.

We went again today and even found a whole section we'd missed the first time! The working model trains were so fun to watch too! And the owner/worker was so kind, so knowledgeable, and very helpful! If I had zero knowledge about model trains, I'd feel good just walking in to learn and get a set-up. He even had some Lego and duplo supplies (he said he'd sold out of Lego motorized trains but sells them and is getting more). He helped us pick out a small N scale that fit on a table and was so easy to just plug in, snap together, my 5 year old was doing it and able to build the track! Though he needs some help to get the train wheels on the track sometimes, but it's fantastic for his fine motor, problem solving, taking care of it is good for a sense of responsibility, and learning basic electrical wiring/engineering principles. The store also right by the Tex rail station! We made it a train day by riding Tex rail to downtown Grapevine for ice cream and pie, looking at the model train in the clock tower for ideas, then a ride to the model store! Such a great day, now tonight we're making houses, ducks, ponds from air dry clay and the scenery we bought from The Model Train Crossing. But seriously such a great store, an amazing place for kids! (And also for getting something that's 'for the kids' but secretly for you! :) ). I also saw tons of supplies that were clearly for experts, advanced sets! I made an offer on the cards that was actually higher than what I paid during my first visit. She immediately shut it down in a dismissive way and then countered with a price that was significantly higher than what I had paid previously. What frustrated me most was the inconsistency. It may not sound like a big deal, but when you're traveling out of town and expecting similar deals based on a prior visit, that inconsistency is pretty annoying. It's a fun trip down memory lane, though it doesn't fully capture the magic of the original stores from the 80s and 90s. The store is now franchised rather than corporately owned, which changes the feel a bit. Prices are on the higher side, and while there are some interesting and unique items, there weren't many Toys"R"Us exclusives beyond a Geoffrey the Giraffe pop. Still, the store is clean, organized, and has plenty to explore, whether you're a collector, a parent, or just a kid at heart. A nostalgic stop, but not quite the full experience of the original Toys"R"Us. The guy at the front door was really nice.

I recently attended a crafts class at Salt and Light Collective with my co-worker. I love how…read moreinviting and clean S&L is as well as how friendly the owner Marissa is. We took the D.I.Y. Wall Hoop Craft class which was taught by Maddie. Maddie walked us through how to make the wall decor, as well as shared tips and tricks with preserving flowers. We took turns, cutting the supplies and picking out the dried flowers for the arrangement. Salt and Light provided light snacks and drinks which was a nice gesture. The class took about an hour and the wall decor turned out lovely. I look forward to attending my next art/craft class at Salt and Light Collective.
