If it were at all possible to put a bed in the back room, pop up the cot and live inside Michael's, I would do it. I truly love anytime I get to go and walk around Michael's, whether I buy nothing or I buy $100 worth of stuff I didn't even know I needed. This year, on my last trip to Michael's, I found candy Wafers and decided I was going to make candy for Christmas this year. Had this not happened, I might not have ever known that I wanted to do that! I love the store, the selections that they have of everything, and love the layout. It's always super easy to navigate and find what you're looking for any Michael's. Typically my trip to the store involves going to the yarn aisle, the planner aisle, or the sticker oil. This store gives me inspiration on what I want to do, whether it's in my scrap books, with a crochet needle, or how I want to plan out my year. I will say that the seasonal help is a lot less friendly then there year-round help. They seem to be a little more short and kind with their customers. People seem to forget that we are the reasons that they even have jobs during the holiday season. However I understand they're just temporary help so I don't let it affect my view on Michael's. The store makes me happy no matter what I deal with at the register. If I could give the CEO of Michael's just one suggestion, I feel that you should get a loyalty discount card that is based on how much money you spend. As much as I enjoyed there is always some awesome sale or some great coupon out there that you could take advantage of, there would be nothing better than having a car that allows me to take $20 off my bill on top of everything because I've spent over $1,000 throughout the year. I brought in a framed piece of art just to have the glass replaced, and the whole process felt unnecessarily complicated. They quoted 5-6 weeks for turnaround times and over $1,000 for what should be a straightforward job. From the start, I had little confidence they truly knew what they were doing with custom framing. In the end, I took it to an independent picture frame shop instead. They did everything perfectly for under $200 and had it back to me within two weeks of drop‑off. Last night about an hour before closing I went in to get some help with a matting project. I purchased the mat and asked them to please cut it for me. The young woman who was working in the custom framing was so helpful and professional. She even went out of her way to search me out in the store to have me check the cut and see if I wanted it a bit smaller ( I did). She was completely charming and a wonderful representative of this store. It was a Saturday evening and I'm sure she'd had a long day and maybe even had later plans---- but all I received from her was patience and helpfulness. read more

We last min (like you do) decided to make a Christmas tree appetizer that requires a foam base of a cone. When we got here and looked- we didn't see any in the size we needed. We found Jamie putting things away and restocking and asked her if she knew of any in the back. She stopped what she was doing and right away helped us and got a ladder out and found EXACTLY what we needed! Are you KIDDING ME? I went to Michael's this morning to get supplies for a Meet & Greet for an artist my group [the largest plein air group in the world with over 650 members] and I walked out. They wanted me to pay a quarter to use a shopping cart. Really? 1. Who carries quarters? 2. I walked through the store. 34 customers with NO shopping carts is NOT good for business. 3. I complained to the manager. I walked out. Since when do you charge people to SHOP? When they said they would give me a quarter...but I had to wait until the clerks were through with a long line of customers? Really? You think I STAYED. So here is what I did. My group will no longer accept any receipts from Michaels from our workshop leaders, teachers, demo artists, or special events. NONE. It isn't about that inconvenience of having to look for shopping carts in the parking lots. It's about the CUSTOMER STUPID. I suggest NO ONE EVER pay to use a shopping cart and complain LOUDLY when asked. read more

As a cosmetologist and artist, Michaels is by far my favorite crafts store but this specific location has a cashier that really rubbed me the wrong way today (I believe her name started with an "E"). As a member, you know that some coupons & deals are only good for 1 day. I tried to let the customer in front of me use one of my coupons (as it didn't apply to my purchase) and the staff says "I'm trying to sign her up and you're ruining it". I was shocked and so was the customer behind me. I understand it's your job to sign people up; as it is at every store that has a rewards program but the lady had already stated that she doesn't shop there often and I didn't want to waste the coupon. I then looked at the customer and told her I'm sorry I was just trying to do something nice and I didn't want to waste. The cashier then says (with an attitude snatching the scanner out) "Here I'll use it!" I told her don't worry about it because the woman was clearly ready to just leave at this point and she already had her money in hand. If I could give the Michael's store at Gulfgate, or also called the Pavilion Shopping Center, zero Stars, I would give it to zero stars. As a matter of fact I would give it negative Stars. I have given kind constructive comments so many times to the store manager that has been a manager for the last year or so. They do nothing about suggestions from concerned customers. I would say that many of us who have given constructive criticism at Michaels have been in the business world for many years. I have spent my life as a customer service and Management Consultant. I can tell you that nothing that this store implements ever has the customers' best interests at heart. Not only that, the prices have gone up exponentially over just the last 2 or 3 years. I think Michaels has been in trouble and it has made them reticent to make improvements. They've recently made "improvements" at this store, but if they only have the money to pay one checker, then making those front end improvements don't do a damn bit of good do they? Take your money and go somewhere else, anywhere else - because this place is not selling quality items and it has really really poor customer service, and a really poorly run front end. I hope the corporate office reads this. And I am a customer who spends a lot of money on items at stores like Michael's. Not only do they charge for shopping carts, but they also have not enough employees working there anymore. In the early mornings and even on Saturday, they don't have enough employees so there is only one person at the register. For two Saturdays in a row I stood in a line of 20 people waiting to get checked out. I always say I'm never going back but then after 4 months go by I'll go back one time because I happen to see a sale there. Recently I was able to get a couple good items at their sale, but this one numbnut that they have working at the front register always insists on refusing to give you the sales prices. He is literally hostile. At a craft store! His name is Dan, and he breaks your merchandise as he puts it into the bag. I don't know about you, but when I take my time to pick out good items I don't want somebody breaking my stuff as they put it into the bag. Long story short, I won't be going back for another 4 or 5 months. Every time I make the stupid mistake of going back, I get screwed again by this store and its poor practices. The Michaels in Gulf Gate is the closest craft store to me but after today I will no longer go there. The last few times I have gone in the store I have not felt that the staff was very helpful but today they were downright rude. Amongst the staff acting as if it was torture to work there, what really got me was when making a return I waited in a long line, made it to the front where then the called a manager over, and after discussing the return with the manager she made me get back in the end of the line and assisted the next customer. If that's the process, then it's a bad one. If it's not then they were just rude. Not only that but the manager questioned my motives on making a return and made me uncomfortable. I was going to repurchase the product in the hopes that another one would work but after all this, forget it. I won't give my money to this store anymore. Hobby Lobby is just up the street and everyone is actually helpful and friendly. I recommend going there. read more

I bake and like to play around with arts and crafts type stuff. I've always got some project or another I'm working on. And I live just down the street. So I am here A LOT. My biggest gripe with this store is that's its never a quick and easy trip. It takes me far longer to wait in line to cash out than it does to find the item I'm looking for. The lines are always ridiculous. Rarely is there more than two cashiers open at once. And I usually end up getting stuck behind some little old lady who has 10,000 different kinds of fake flowers. They have got to set up a better system for the check out area! Especially for the holiday season! On the plus side, I'm not sure I've ever left the store not finding exactly what I was looking for. Sure, it may take me an hour (not many associates on the floor to help direct you) but you eventually find it. And I just love it when I have extra time and money to roam every aisle, I always find fun little things that I don't really need. The good thing is they're usually on clearance and for $1 it's totally worth it. Just don't head in there if you have less than 10 minutes to get in and out. The shortest amount of time you'll need is at least 20. read more
