    Michael's in Poway.

Michael's is the best place to find yourself lost in creative thought. There is an abundance of items available to encourage your piece to become a wonderful gift. Aisles are easily marked. I recommend checking the sales, using a coupon and looking in each aisle. You'll quickly find alternatives to expand your project and potentially save funds while doing so. Don't wait too long.

    Easter Decor on clearance

The extent of my holiday home decor is pretty minimal, mostly for my kids to enjoy. During the shutdown I was able to order some Easter decor online that was on clearance including a basket shaped like a bunny and some wooden eggs. I also ordered crafts for us to do on Easter Day. Michaels offers curbside pickup and it was a breeze. You wait for the email confirmation that let's you know when your order is ready, then head on to the store. When there, just call the store to let them know you've arrived. I provided them with the color and make of my vehicle and told the staff member where I parked. She asked if I could show my ID through my window. I didn't have to open it just put my ID against the window. They drop off items either in the back or in your trunk. I opted for the trunk, so I had it popped open for her to easily drop off my items. She closed it and I was off on my merry way. Pro tip: There are promo codes on the site that you can use for additional discounts or use the one included in your emails if you're a member. Membership is free. Happy shopping!

I have always wondered how Michaels stays in business... Then I realized my wife and thousands of other women who are crafty love to decorate or create crafts and have no other place to go but here. Teachers find it convenient to buy items here with the additional discounts they recieve. Parking here is easy. Pricing is reasonable. Service is always prompt! Sign up for their newsletter to get deals on top of their already cheap items. If you have young children, there are craft days available to teach them how to be crafty!

    I think they'll like these..

Stopped in the Michael's for some crafts for my students to make before leaving for the holiday break. They certainly did not have much left evident by the empty shelves and the direct response I received from the manager that would NOT be getting any more. As a result, I was only able to pick up one craft of some cut little holiday dog cut outs. I had to find something else at a different store somewhat similar. The store was a little unorganized probably due to all the traffic that was going the store. Holiday traffic indeed.

Lots of crafts - use coupons

The store is well stocked with arts and craft items. The aisles can get a little small and tight in some areas. It was a well kept store with clean floors and display items were arranged in order. This store is kind of small and has noticeably much less space compared to the Carmel Mountain Michaels store. It was hard to find helpers in the store to guide you or grab items on high shelves. The register at space #2 was malfunctioning and it took 20 minutes to make a simple purchase. They were very apologetic. The manager gave an addition 20% off for our long wait, which was very nice. This store is adequate for people of Poway but if I'm just as close to Michaels in Carmel Mountain, I think I'd rather go where there is a ton of service helpers and many registers to make the line go fast.

Nice new store. Clean and organized, friendly staff. Forgot my coupon so the associate used an extra one she had. Coupons help, saved 25%!

The shop isn't open every day, and while part of me wishes it were, it actually makes catching it open feel like a treat. It turns a simple supply run into something I look forward to. My first visit was just to browse. I picked up a few skeins from the discontinued/orphan bin and some fun extras for a crocheter friend. The selection immediately stood out -- this isn't big-box store yarn. The fibers are higher quality and much more enjoyable to work with. On my second visit I purchased a beautiful wool/alpaca blend hank for fingerless gloves. Carol balled the yarn for me and then taught me how to split it into two equal balls for my project. The concept honestly confused me at first, but she explained that you divide by weight rather than yardage -- and suddenly it clicked. One of those "aha" moments you remember later. Shortly after, I returned for two more hanks of the same yarn. Carol again walked me through using the swift and ball winder. I even sat at the big studio table ripping out a glove... twice... while she patiently taught two young students to crochet. Watching her explain foundation chains and rows made it clear she isn't just a shop owner -- she's a gifted teacher. Most recently, I brought in gloves I was struggling to finish. She patiently explained the construction in a way my brain could actually process and showed me an alternate method that achieved the same result but was much easier to understand. That kind of support is priceless. Carol consistently shows kindness, patience, and deep knowledge of fiber arts. The shop also carries a huge variety of patterns for knitters and crocheters at every skill level. Parking can feel confusing the first time, but it's easy once you know: there's a lot behind the building -- enter via the driveway to the left of the neighboring house -- plus plenty of street parking. As long as the shop is open, I'll keep coming back. This place feels less like a store and more like a fiber community.

If she hadn't helped me, I would never have been able to figure out how much yarn I needed for my projects! It will be my go-to from now on, as I live close by.

It is not the biggest store in the world. But I found waaay more fabrics I wanted to take home here than in any big box store I have been to. I thought the prices were good for the quality I was getting. I got some lovely woven cotton for nightshirts, some lace for my granddaughters dress, good Guttenberg thread, and a set of French needles and pins from a brand I had read about. The cliche of hugging the fabrics in the store because you love them so much is true here. I saw a 60's inspired bright silky print that made me want to sew a flowy caftan, move to Palm Springs, and throw a FABulous party. What more can I say?

The shop has a beautiful selection of apparel fabrics, with lots of tropical, fun, colorful options that feel perfect for flowy garments, alongside more neutral choices as well. I ended up purchasing a really lovely tropical viscose and an incredible deadstock Gucci bouclé that immediately spoke to me and it happened to be on sale, which made it even better. The owner was wonderful: warm, knowledgeable, and genuinely fun to talk with. We chatted about the fabrics and brainstormed what I might sew with them, which made the experience feel extra special. Highly recommend stopping by if you love sewing or beautiful fabric. It's a great shop with a thoughtfully curated selection, and I'm so glad I made it part of my trip.
