3 stars and would have been 3 1/2 stars because there was only one cashier open and there were a quite a few customers in line. I really can't stand when stores do this, it's one on my major pet peeves. Then when they had the second cashier open, she literally rushed me. Yes, another pet peeve but I hate it when I'm still putting my card and receipt away and the cashier calls up the next person and begins their transaction. Pretty darn rude and an invasion of my privacy and personal space! But besides that, I like Micheal's Arts and crafts in general because I'm usually working on some type of craft whether that be jewelry making, decorating/designing a card, scrapbooking, or preparing an arts and craft activity. I have been to this particular Michaels a couple of times. It's spacious, well kept, clean and the aisles are wide. I found my way around pretty easily as I knew exactly what I was looking for. I'm here all the time. I buy a lot of my yarn here. They always have stuff on sale and most of the yarn I get here is used for scarves that I donate to local groups giving food and clothes to needy folks. They have great deals on frames and good sales on their scrapbook paper and stickers. I also like that you can use Joann coupons if they sell the same stuff you are buying. read more

I love Michaels! They have all the arts and crafts you need and while the price can be a bit high, make sure you print a coupon or have the link on your phone ready to be scan at the register! This definitely save you a lot of money! there are certain things that you can buy from other stores such as Target or Walmart that would save you a lot more money than you expect...I learned th hard way after coming home and using the products, to only find out that I can buy the products for at least 50% cheaper.. read more

This is a great arts and crafts store. There are plenty of things to purchase & so many things to choose from when making DIY projects. They even have certain holiday decorations as well. They also carry beads, yarn, craft materials, art supplies, baskets, fake flowers, wedding stuff & framing stuff. The store is a big store so sometimes it's a little hard to find what you are looking for which is a hassle when you know what you are looking for but can't find it. The store is usually clean and well organized but there like I said sometimes hard to find certain things. They also have some classes here for kids and adults you can pick up a schedule at the register. Parking situation here is decent you can find a spot close enough. Customer service here is nothing special. They are nice & seem to be helpful when you need them. I hardly ever see employees out on the ground , stocking , organizing etc so when you need someone's help you hope there is someone close enough to help you out. read more

I love Michael's. I get all my scrapbook essentials here. Aside from purchasing all of my scrapbooking essentials here, I recently bought wedding invitations here for my auntie. The invitation kit came complete with bows, envelops, rsvp cards, rsvp enevelops and of course the invitation paper itself. They were such a great deal! 16.99/box (50 invitations per box)!! Customer service is also another plus here. I've came here several times looking for something specific and every time I flag down an associate, each one is willing to help me out. I like arts and crafts... But Michael's lack both. I just see mostly fake flowers everywhere and cheap home decor. There are a lot of people that work there. You usually see them walking around or hiding from you.... I'd rather not spend another minute in there unless I had an art project consisting of cheap fake flowers. read more

Being a guy, you don't see too many of us in this store. But I really am into crafts and doing unique things for the people I care about. This was the very first time I've ever been to a Michael's store. I've been to other mom and pop craft like stores in the past with my mom, who is really big into that thing. I have to say, I like the unique items and the variety Michael's offers. My criticisms really come from the fact on how inefficient this store is (and maybe all Michael's are like this) So my review is based on ways that if corporate really stream lined their processes I think they could really be more profitable and easier on customers. 1) It was very difficult for me to identify what items were in each isle. Most department stores have a certain height at which they mark what categories the items in that isle are, located near the top with tags. It took me two passes to realize it was much higher in height than traditional stores, so I totally was clueless on what a particular isle had to offer. I believe lowering that could be a bit easier for people. Looking up a higher height than other stores, seemed to be turn off. 2) The store lacked employee's, trying to find something was hard since the store is large. So I had to keep coming back to the same employee over and over. I am sure it was annoying since he was busy doing his job, I wish there more roaming around that could provide help. I did like they knew where everything was though. 3) Since I couldn't find what I wanted right away in (2), I immediately went to my phone to download the Michael's iOS app. Many stores now offer the ability to locate your local store, search for an item, and be told which isle exactly its located along with a map. Target and Office Depot has been doing this for awhile and its super helpful in large stores. I don't want to be wandering around forever to find what I need. The Michaels app unfortunately did not offer this, and I think if they did, it would help improve customers lives in getting the things they need quicker. It's been a godsend for me. 4) Checking out was very similar to Best Buy's style where you walk down this predefined route with lots of little misc items trying to get your attention to buy right before you reach the cash register. When I reached the cash register to check out, there were two things I found very inefficient. I asked the cashier for a gift card, I wanted to buy one for a friend. She pointed in a certain direction and said it was all the way over there. That's extremely bad, because at that point I said, forget it. I am not getting out of line to go all the way on other side of store to get a gift card when I am right here. Always have gift cards at cash register. 5) I was quite surprised I had to physically sign my receipt when using a credit card. Every store now a days has a point of service system that lets you sign digitally. It seemed quite old school here. 6) When putting everything back in my cart after checking out, I noticed I can't leave the store with my cart, due to a security device preventing me to leave on exit w/ the cart. Are you serious? How am I going to take all the things I just purchased to my car? I was so confused, the security guard was nice enough to help but I can't understand this policy. Why are you doing this to customers? I can understand the worry to have someone maybe stealing a cart, but is this really an issue? It made me feel strange as a customer. read more

I went back to Michaels to give the store another chance to impress me and this time they exceeded my expectations. The person on the sales floor was more than helpful, when it came time to check out the line was long but then all of a sudden the same person who help me on the sales floor opened another register. I ask his name to give him praise and he informed me he was the manager. read more

I have been in Michael's probably 3 or 4 times in different locations and always feel uncomfortably out of my element. Usually I'm searching for something specific. A couple of years ago it was for something to serve as a recipe file after mine bit the dust. Then it was for sterling silver earring backs to keep in my desk drawer at work when I had lost one too many. Today it was for magnetic sheets to turn my "That One 08" sticker into a magnet I could stick on my car. The thing about Michael's is that they have what I need most of the time and the staff has been unfailingly helpful in helping me find it, either in Vallejo or today in Pinole. I can't relate to most of what they have in there, but I love it when they have just what I need and it's generally at an affordable price. read more

Wow, this store is a crafters dream come true . They have a bite of everything from floral art to scrapbooking supplies . The lines are always long ,because this store is horribly under staffed . I went to this Michael's location and I received horrible customer service by Jo, the store manager. I was in line to buy a chocolate bar and Jo was at the register, she just finished ringing up a customer and I saw that she was open so I walked up to her. What she said to me while rolling her eyes was "Oh, I was trying to close. Ugh, now let me log back in." That was pretty rude to hear from anyone. I hate the cashier that works here in the mornings. She has such a bad attitude. I come here at least 2-3 times a month and she always has an issue. Maybe she should get another job-where she may be happier. I bought a goodie sacks from here and realized they were too small so i had to return and get another size-she gave me hell for it. This review if for the Pinole Framing Dept only. Horrid. Turn around and EXIT. Do not look back. Go directly to another Michael's ...I've had excellent experiences at the Milpitas and Vallejo locations. I had a very large print mounted and framed. The price was outrageous initially because the frame rep didn't signify the different pricing on framing. When I asked for a cost breakdown I had to ask her for cheaper options. She then went mid-level. I had to cheat and read the color coding system to identify my options. Next negative experience the job wasn't completed on the date they promised at 2 weeks. When I went to pick it up they said they had left me a message (lie). When I complained they said they could get it ready in a day. When I went to pick it up and hung it on my wall I realized how horrible the matting looks...full of gaps. I am returning it back to the manager and hopefully will have a better update. But avoid the hassle. Go somewhere else. read more

My two year old son dropped a ball in the isle which for some reason was reason enough for a sales person to tell me that this was not a playground and asked that i not bounce the ball in the store because there was glass everywhere when i asked if she thought i was a child and if she thought it was appropriate to talk to me this way, she said she didnt give a fuck. seriously. when i spoke to a manager he seemed nice enough but it didnt seem like this shocked him in anyway. I have this pet peeve about customer service. My main concern is one of the cashiers. She helped me twice on two different occasions and failed miserably both times. Customers like to be acknowledged. They don't want to be your BFF, but at least say Hello. Common Customer Courtesy. Another thing is, you don't drop helping me so you can answer the damn phone!! If you have to answer the phone AT LEAST excuse yourself. You don't just drop our transaction and turn around to answer. There are other workers in the store...oh, on a side note, customers usually don't like it when their change is dropped into your hand to where coins spill all over the counter. What bothered me the most is I have already talked to the manager about this person and obviously nothing has been done. I was there today and witnessed the same thing happen to another customer! Yes, same cashier. On top of that? With five people waiting in line, she left the register without saying anything to anyone. She didn't even tell the other cashier (helping me) she's leaving her register. I continue to shop here because it's convenient, and the other cashiers are ok. If you are planning your own wedding, expect to make several trips to Michael's. If I had to recall my trips here during the last 6 months, I must have been here over a dozen times. I have mixed reviews about this place. Some days it would be hard to find someone to help you and other days there happens to be a staff person in the aisle. There were also times I couldn't find certain things I needed or they would run out. One time the day before my wedding, I walked out of the store without my wallet. 20 minutes after realizing I left my wallet, I drove back to Michael's and luckily the cashier had it with her. This Michael's could do a better job of arranging their stamps. The stamp aisle was a bit disappointing. I'm sure I'll be finding myself here again looking for baby shower decor or scrapbook items. read more

I admit I know my way around a craft store pretty well. If you've been in 1 Michael's, you've been in them all. The staff here have always been friendly and helpful, and even when something goes awry at the cash register (the program doesn't like Mastercards with chip for some reason), the cashier was unfrazzled and apologetic. Her manager was very helpful in quickly pointing out the issue, and helped us on our way. Service is pretty consistent, whether showing up in the morning or 15 minutes before close to get last minute supplies for a school project one of the kids forgot to mention until 2 nights before it was due. read more

I shop here for two major reasons: it's the closest thing Richmond has to an art store, and I can almost always find a 40% off coupon. That being said, the store has just the basics in terms of actual art supplies and I would recommend anyone looking for anything specialized or high quality go to Blick or Artist and Craftsman. The store is almost always understaffed and the staff, while friendly, doesn't seem highly knowledgeable about most of the product and I can't blame them. There's too much random product. I recommend going in knowing what you need. The most annoying thing about this store though is that they have these carts that won't let you leave the store with them. I bought $200 worth of large frames for a show and after I checked out I found that I couldn't wheel them to my car. A cashier watched me crash the stupid cart into the door without offering to help. I couldn't carry the frames and opted to get a cart from the parking lot (from one of the normal stores that lets you actually use the cart) and wheel it into Michael's to transfer my frames from their cart to my own. When an employee saw me doing this, she tried to stop me and offered me another stupid can't-leave-the-store cart. I explained what I was doing and she let me but didn't help. I'm sure this is a corporate problem and not actually the fault of this particular store, but surely good customer service is worth the risk of losing a cart or two. TLDNR: okay for getting inexpensive basics, but don't buy anything you can't carry. read more

I love going to Michael's for all my craft stuff and more, but this location had really bad customer service. I had bought a shadow box frame when I got home and opened it I found that it was damaged. So I went back half hour later to return/exchange the item. When I brought it back they girl had the nerve to ask me if I dropped it. Then she tells me that it's going to be a wait for them to look for a other one. I waited for like a 20mims. Finally came back to me saying they don't, but that another store has it. So I asked if they could call that other store so that they could put one on hold for me. I stood there waiting for another 10mins and no one did anything. The person who was supposed to call goes and helps another customer right in front of my face. This store has really bad customer service. Now I know why people complain. If I could I would give zero stars. read more

Amazing customer service!!! Everyone from the sale associates to the manager staff was well informed and very helpful. I went to the store with my little sister looking for some craft supplies to make small bracelets for her soccer team and buy those build-it-yourself cars for myself. We ran into an associate who clearly directed us to the correct aisle. We found everything we needed to make the bracelets. After that we could not find the cars, we ran into a manger with no name tag but a very pretty name necklace "Yamileth" I asked her if that was her name but she said no that her name was Evelyn. I should her my necklace which says "Oscar" and told her that was my reason on why I asked. BUT anyways back to the car I wanted to build. I asked her if they had any Pontiac Firebirds, because I really wanted to build one. Sure enough she was able to walk me all the way to the correct aisle and find the right car model that I wanted. I swear it was almost like she knew the entire store, she should be an owner or something. Whoever you are Evelyn, with a very pretty Yamileth necklace, you are going places in life!!!!!!! I walked past and made eye contact with at least 6 sales associates looking for Mason jars and a particular picture frame. Not one single person offered assistance even as I stood in the photo area I was completely ignored. Terrible and sad experience. I will never go back. I had a camera that was given to me by partner for Christmas that didn't meet our expectation (at the time of purchase she was told it came with film but didn't, This was purchased at the emeryville location. When we decided to purchase film we realized Michaels was totally overpriced). So I went to the Pinole location and was told by Brianna who I believe was the store manager or some sort of supervisor that I couldn't return it because she "thinks it's a high priced item and that I would have to go back to the emeryville location because the stock is different" The Michaels return policy says I can return at any location even online orders. I didn't argue with her because honestly her dramatic statements were so annoying and really over apologetic for her opinion but NO FACTS. She never checked to make sure that I indeed HAD to go to the original store of purchase. Everything was "I think" and " I'm not sure" and "I don't know" and " I am soooo sorry" over and over but she didn't do the minimum to even help. I am not a crafter; I go to this store occasionally for random art supplies when I don't feel like going to the Berkeley Blicks. Most of my experiences in this store are merely annoying (same thing others have said: the smell, the staff, the lack of help), but today I had a real issue with the manager (didn't get a name). I had a list of items I needed and I'd called earlier to see if they had the things I needed. I spoke with a floor person named John who was super helpful and nice. When I arrived at the store, though, this manager person asked me if I needed help. I had the list that John had helped me with on the phone, so I asked for John and he told me John was on a break and would be back in 5 minutes. Then he walked away-didn't ask to see the list, didn't suggest he help me, didn't offer to find anyone else to help me. He just walked away and things went south from there. I asked him if I was supposed to just stand there and wait and he argued with me, talked down to me, interrupted me, and was generally unacceptably rude to me. Honestly, this is no different than I've found men are generally treating older women these days, but, as I reminded him, I was a customer in his store I was there to buy stuff. Suffice it to say that the guy was a jerk and probably treats his staff the same way he treated me. Because they seem really unhappy. Anyway, John finally turned up and helped me-courteously, respectfully, and kindly. We found all the stuff on my list. All the way to my car, I kept repeating, "I hate that store, I hate that store," but sometimes I just don't want to go to Berkeley, especially when it is raining. So I'll probably have to go there again, but hopefully it won't be when that jerk-manager is there. read more
