Cashier ( who happens to also be the Store Manager) was going to charge me .10 cents for a $98 purchase and I did not have any coins. So she gave me the bag for free. I had to walk over the end of the aisle to get the bag. Then, with my items still on the register because I still need to bag my items...this cashier asked me to move because she could not let other people wait. The two African Americans -mother daughter tandem ---who decided to say - we can't figure out which one you have been using but she actually quickly decided to grab my receipt for me. Then she goes "stop harassing me". Talk about 1 second escalation simply because the Store Manager cannot wait for me to finish bagging my $98.00 pieces of ribbons and small stuff. Unpleasant. Then when I decided to take a picture of the registrar to document, another African American woman shouted at me saying don't take my picture! I showed her my phone and told her it's the registrar not you. Basically, another operational gap because they let people loiter at the register area when they are just waiting. Two things for the store manager - let other people finish bagging their items before you open up the registrar for others. Then perhaps, don't let non paying customers block the registrar aisle. read more

It's always fun to browse. The store is mostly well maintained and organized. But I don't recommend purchasing any of the individually stocked markers since most of them have been ruined by unsupervised children. Expensive Tombow markers have fine pointed brush tips that require a delicate touch. Kids have been allowed to smash and ruin these brush tips, and they leave the markers scattered all over with the caps off. I've seen this every time I go to the store. A simple solution would be to store these up a few shelves higher, out of the reach of young kids. read more

Review is for the online pickup process for an online order. I needed a 14'x14" float frame to frame some items for a Christmas gift. Checking on Michael's online site, I was disappointed that my Alameda store was out of stock as was the next two closest stores in San Leandro and Emeryville. The nearest store with the frame was at the Pinole store. I placed the order and received an email for pick-up. The store is located in the Pinole Vista Shopping Center next to Grocery Outlet. After walking in the front door, you see the Online Pickup Kiosk. You press the button and shortly, a worker comes out to check your order number and ID. So if you just patiently wait for one of those you'll be good. Super good deals on my new apartment decor. Also I took a Wilton cake decorating class about 6 years ago? Super awesome. Learned a lot of techniques. I doubt the same teachers are there now...but it was a great experience at the time. I've been a Michael's shopper for almost thirty years. When we moved to Pinole, I began shopping at the Pinole branch off Fitzgerald Drive. The variety of selections has declined somewhat, but the value has remained customer friendly. What has changed significantly is the quality of service. My most recent visit on 09/03, unfortunately was very unpleasant and uncomfortable. The check-out clerk, without scanning the items individually decided to price all the items the same amount. After I reviewed my receipt the oversight was glaring. I discussed the issue with the clerk and insisted she scan the items individually. This she did and was about to make the correction, before I inquired about my customer discount. She paused and after I typed in phone #, only then was I credited with a discount. I saved a few bucks. But really what broke the dam for me was this was the same clerk on previous occasions who had given me misinformation on the store's return policy, and who had attempted to overcharge me on two other occasion. I've had the store's manager intervene regarding this particular's clerk's misinformation. I don't know what it is with this clerka? But whatever it is I hope she's given a refresher course on customer service. read more

I used their custom framing department twice and received horrible customer service both times. The first time I thought Amanda was just having a bad day and gave her the benefit of the doubt. The second time I greeted her with a hello and she ignored me. She proceeded to go behind the counter, grab my items and says "I should have been out of here 20 minutes ago." She then says she can't help me and I'll have to look at my items myself as she starts getting her things. She leaves as I'm opening my packages to make sure the frames are ok. read more

I came here because I moved to the area. I can't find what I want every time I come in. Usually, I call here to ask if they have the product IIwant instead of assuming that they had it. This isn't the case with my favorite Michaels in Emeryville. I used to purchase containers for a class I was teaching and had to go out to Emeryville to purchase the materials that they didn't have. Not good! I have had to do that with other things. The staff, when I see them are friendly and helpful. I can't help to think that if they were better stocked, that they may need more than one cashier. read more

A point of criticism would be the crazy coupon system they have. They could take a lesson from Bed Bath and Beyond. Otherwise, we're finding most of our craft needs here. When I travel somewhere around the planet, I do not buy T-Shirts. I buy artwork: I take it home and have it framed when I arrive home. I have two different pieces of artwork I framed: 1. Mt. Soraksan, Sokcho South Korea waterfall autumn landscaping portrait I took around September 2010 http://www.csun.edu/~hcgeo007/entrancesites.html A lithographic silkscreen of Japanese symbols-Ocean Wave (Water), Fish, Turtle, Lobster, Crane, Flower, Tree, Sun, Sky, and Mt. Fuji when I visited Tokyo, Japan in mid-February 2011. http://arts-wallpapers.com/paintings/mount_fuji_paintings/index.htm My waterfall portrait cost me $40.00 to have it framed in a solid, mahogany wood frame with non-glare glass. The size of my waterfall portrait is 28 inches wide by 30 inches long. The waterfall picture is an odd size, so Michael's had to make a special frame for my portrait. The framer also mounted my portrait on an acid-free mounting board and extracted all the air from the frame making my portrait archival art quality. My Tokyo Japan silkscreen is an odd size, too. The silkscreen's size is huge: 45 inches wide by 55 inches long! I chose a solid, cherry wood frame that has a bamboo-textured appearance which dramatically accentuated the silkscreen lithographic artwork. In addition, the framer installed the highest quality non-glare glass, mounted it on an acid-free mounting board, and also, extracted all the air from the frame insuring the silkscreen remains in an archival state. The cost framing my Japanese silkscreen without a 55% coupon would have cost me more than $800.00. But since I had a 55% discount coupon, plus an additional 40% off for special framing, framing my silkscreen cost me $360.00, including tax. The framer also gave me the same 55% discount coupon, plus another 40% discount for framing my waterfall portrait! I saved a lot of money when I framed my two artworks at Michael's. Now, every time I walk by my two pieces of art mounted by Michael's, memories flood my mind taking me to the day photgraphing the Mt. It's a sad day when I have to write a bad review for one of my favorite stores. I've been getting my materials here for some time now. I notice since my last curbside pick up a couple things have changed maybe it's been updated online I'm not sure but today I ordered 2 things. I have my 4 year old son I figured I'd do a pick up order then go pick up my 6 year old from school after. I didn't want to bring my son in since I know he's going to fall asleep. I put in the app that I'm "on my way" then I get a text saying my order was picked up. So now I'm like great now I have to go inside. So I go inside with my poor son who was sleeping. I went to the cashier and said I have a pick up. Her words "what you don't know how to pick up?" I said no I originally did curbside. She said did you call? I said no. Was I supposed to call? It didn't give me that option it said my order was picked up. I said this isn't convenient the whole point was to do curbside she said "oh that's just our system. You know how it is things don't work right" she said with this I don't care attitude and continued to walk away from me talking like oh well deal with it. I said wow that's how you treat people with that attitude I said I'll make sure to put that in the review she said "yeah you do that" then I walked back inside and asked for a manager she said "ok she'll be here in a couple mins" I waited and waited then I asked another associate where the manager was she said oh she's in framing. So I go over there and asked are you the manager she said how can I help you I said so is that a yes? You're the manager she said yes like she was irritated, off the bat she talks over me and says "if you want curbside you have to do it in the parking lot" I said ok but why does it have on my way in the app and it says put my parking number when I get there. She doesn't even let me talk she talks over me and says you need to tell the 1800 number that she repeats herself multiple times to call the 800 number like instead of letting me talk and listening to me it's like she's taught to tell customers just call 800 number she's a manager she's supposed to talk to customers to make things better but it really just made it worse and it shows how the employees are and how they treat customers there no customer service! I asked her how am I supposed to know that when I'm online following the instructions that it's going to automatically say my order was picked up only employees know that since it seems to be a glitch. I said I feel like your just blowing me off and telling me to call the 800 number to get me to leave she said I hear this all the time! As a customer that's not my problem it's your job! To listen and be compassionate and understanding! I was a manager for years! It's just sad that no one has respect for other people period! Michaels you need to really do better read more

I was in earlier this evening to pick up my online order and the employee came up she did ask me if I needed help I told her i was there to pick up my order she asked me if it was a frame or online and I said online and very rudely she rolled her eyes at me and said ugh I asked her if there was a problem and if I needed to come back a different day only to say she needed to see my I'd, I showed her she asked if I had more shopping I said yes. I honestly can't remember the employees name so she can be handled at a corporate level. I come here all the time and first time at this location using their online in store pickup not a great experience with rude employees I did speak with a manager about this he did apologize however I really hope to not have this experience again read more

Two employees in the whole store. The cashier was one of them. Waited in line for ten minutes while she rang up a gal with a cart full. Then she proceeded to ask customer if she had rewards. Nope. So cashier suspended her sale so she could sign up. After waiting another five minutes for that whole process gal is about to leave when cashier realizes she forgot to ring something up in the sale. That's when I decided to leave. I had run out of time and honestly I understand mistakes, giving rewards, etc. The review is about lack of employees. Whats that old saying? Water, Water everywhere but a not a drop to drink. Lets change it to match whats going on in this Michaels. Employees, Employees everywhere but not a soul to help you. I started at one side and worked my way around and saw at least 8 different people and not one of them acknowledged my existence. Not even a blink of eye contact so that I could possibly ask them a question. In the picture framing department there was a framed photo of Michael Jackson. Actually looking back I should have asked him if he could tell me where the hair clips were. I wanted to punch it right off the stand it was displayed on. I was looking for decorative feathers to make a hair piece for my 20's themed costume. Found the feathers but didn't find any hair clips to put them on. When I went up to the counter the guy ringing me up asked if I had found everything. "No," I told him. He asked what I was looking for and I told him and he said the exact isle # and area they would be in. He also apologized for not being able to take me because he wasn't supposed to leave the register. No problem Dude, that's the most help I got at this place in the whole 20 minutes I walked around here. It was a fluke that I happened to come by here. Michael's must be paradise for crafters, which I am not. However, I do use a lot of double sided tape. When the Sunday paper comes if it has a Michael's coupon for 40 or 50 percent off, I check my supply and if it low I pick some up. What I dislike about this store and other crafty places is the smell of the artificial plants, the smell overwhelms me when I come in and keeps me from spending much time in the store. The person who rang up my order was so pleasant. He understood how I was bothered by the crooked framer of the month plaque behind a closed cash register. I wanted to go and straighten it. I might go back next week to see if this irritant has been corrected. Parking is easy at this store. That will make it easy for me to check the position of the plaque; I can just hold my breath as I pass the flowers, check the sign and dash back out. read more

I love how big this store is. I love Michaels in general and could basically get lost in all things crafty. The only thing I didn't love is that there's no one around to help you, other than the people behind the cashier's counter and the people behind the framing counter. There wasn't anyone walking around asking if you needed help, etc. Now I don't mean workers pestering you every 5 minutes if you needed help. I just mean there was no one around to ask for help that wasn't behind a counter. I was looking for something in particular and I needed some help trying to find out. Luckily I wasn't in a hurry because after a few times around the whole store, I actually found what I was looking for. I could've saved that time had someone been on the floor, assisting people who needed assistance, or at least put some stock away and acted like they were around if people needed help. Don't go to this location unless you are desperate. First offense, they don't honor Joann's coupons and there is a huge discrepancy on whether or not the michaels rewards can be used when returning things. I spoke with one person at the cash register and they said they don't honor any Joann's coupons and when I tried to return something they couldn't look it up using my reward number, apparently it was something they stopped months ago. Oddly enough Pleasant Hill Michaels has no problem accepting Joann coupons or looking things up with a Michaels rewards number. Second offense happened today when I had placed an online order, went to pick it up, and it was the wrong color. The whole point of pick up was so that you can come in the store, pick up, and leave. Instead this took three times as long since the order was wrong and then they couldn't find the items in the store cause it was probably stolen, apparently. My experience with this certain location has been more than frustrating and I would rather drive to Pleasant Hill Michaels to make a purchase. read more

This Michael's is by far the BEST one in the Bay Area-my Michael's of choice! It seems to be the largest with the greatest variety of product. It's clean, well-stocked, organized. The team has always been super friendly, including the Manager...he always greets customers, says hello and clearly cares about his store. Hours state 9am opening. I waited outside of the front entrance at 8:55. An angry employee beat on the door and a manager approached, opened the door and slammed the door in my face as I asked to make sure the store opened at 9am. The time was 8:58 at this moment..... extremely rude middle aged white man with glasses. The morning staff is half asleep and all seem to need coffee because they all have an attitude. Two aisles. That's all the space that's dedicated to cake decorating, but oh. my. God! I can spend HOURS just staring up at Wilton products all day. Everything is neatly kept and organized so I never really have trouble finding what I'm looking for...the only problem I have when I go is what I want to spend my money on because I can seriously splurge here! Rolled fondants, sprinkles, molds, tools, pans...love love love! Cake decorating things are expensive in general, but with the different coupons from Michael's that are generally available every now and then, it can become an affordable hobby. I haven't had any issues with the customer service so far, but as long as I can get my hands on cake decorating stuff so close by, I'll keep coming back. read more

TERRIBLE customer service at this Michaels. The "manager" was incompetent and just gave a lot of attitude while helping my mother and I. If you ever go there and see the "manager" not wearing a name tag with a gold necklace with the name "Yamelith" (not even sure if that's how you spell it) working, don't go to her register. When we asked her name, she said her name was Evelyn... doesn't add up, right? She was rude and talks back to customers like she owns the place. As we were leaving the store, she was making comments and laughing with her co-worker that was originally ringing us up. Because we said there are incompetent idiots that work here that can't figure out what they were doing after they failed to get the 25% off entire purchase include sale items coupon, she really got offended. We didn't say it straight to her face, my mom and I said it to each other. I was laughing by myself as my mom and her were going at it. Yes, it was quite embarrassing but as in a management position, you should be willing to accommodate your customer to any needs because they are the ones that will bring back business. I never experience such terrible customer service... it was literally ridiculous and I never write bad reviews... Since the sale ended at 7pm and it was already 6:45, she could have offered a 25% off tomorrow after they figured out how to do it. But no.. Glutton for crafts and punishment? I've been to this store several times over the past year as it is on my way home from work and EVERY time I encounter employee's who are clearly unhappy with their job. In my opinion, with unemployment at all time highs, if you don't like your job, then step aside and let one of the other American's who would be happy to work step in. Why did I go back after the first few visits were met with crummy service? I believe that someone can have a bad day and that there is a good chance that one employee's bad attitude doesn't mirror all the others (i.e. I believe in second chances, and thirds, and fourths sometimes). This store has run out of chances with me... My most recent visit to the store yielded 8 people in line, one young woman checking, another just looking over her shoulder, and three employees on the floor restocking the shelves. Never have I been to another store where 8 people in line doesn't warrant calling for another cashier (and I'm counting shopping at a 24 hour store at 3 am). Not to mention, what was the woman looking over her shoulder doing that she couldn't hop onto another register? I shop at Michael's a lot but because I don't like being treated like my money isn't worth providing more than mediocre service, I will not be going to this Michael's location ever again. read more
