I visited this restaurant Sept 19th 2019 and ordered the Ribeye steak and eggs and noticed that about every 3rd or so bite around the ends seemed like the meat was starting to change (going bad) when I got to the other end of the steak (which was a nice size portion) the last bite I took was so bad I had to spit it out, the eggs, toast, milk and service was good. About an hour later I was in the bathroom continually. We walked in and immediately felt like we had walked on to a Rob Zombie movie set - if he were directing Happy Days. Very much a Midwestern small town diner in the middle of the south end of the city. As quaint as everything is - it isn't manufactured to look quaint - it just is. Odd art that some local person created is hanging all over the walls - and is for sale. Every manner of person from the reddest of necks to the bluest of blood to the whitest of trash can be found eating their deliciously prepared food. The waitress - Beverley - warned us that if we come back any day but Tuesday - she'll give us a "run for our money." Tuesday is tough because the lunch special is "almost everything." There is a HUGE dry-erase board that says the special is "almost everything on the menu - $4.95." Coffee was great - service was better. People watching was nearly peerless. Quirky little place. There was no support for the buttocks and the wood frame dug into tbe back of my leg, cutting off circulation. I tried a half order of biscuits and gravy. It needed doctoring up with hot sauce and pepper, very bland. Doubt the biscuits were homemade and I should of asked for them to be toasted. Not much sausage visible and it should of been served warmer. There seemed to be a bit of a musty odor when I first walked in, but divey restaurants often are guilty of that. Small mom and pop restaurant. I ordered an egg white omelette with rice, toast and a side of bacon and I asked for my toast a head of time. I was a bit displeased to see that they reuse toasted bread that was laying next to the toaster and they touch it with their bare hands. This wouldn't have been much of an issue if the same person that took my order, hadn't just touched money and then my toast with her hands without washing them first. I didn't eat the toast. When I got my order, everything looked good and well cooked except I was given a regular omelette instead of my egg white version as I requested. I then told the woman, the same one who's been handling the money and I later believe her to be the manager, about the mix up. She looked at me in a bit of disbelief and proceeded to tell me that I didn't ask for one when I knew for a fact, that I did. She told me she could have one remade but still continued to tell me that I never asked for one. The "altercation" was minor but unnecessary when she had no problem having it remade. Cheap prices. I had to drop down Michaels quite a bit after a crummy breakfast that costed me over $18 for some very lackluster food for a price that I could have went to the grocery store and bought a 1 pound t-bone steak and a bag of salad and dressing for the same price. The eggs I ordered were almost uncooked, biscuits and gravy HIGHLY disappointing, AND cold, the hash browns undercooked, bacon OVERCOOKED, all served up by waitresses and cooks who looked like slobs. Most of the meal I left behind, and I always either finish a meal or get a carry out doggiee bag for the rest. The cook looked like an illegal and a drunk, at least he looked that way to me. I want clean and courteous people serving me, NO exceptions. I might try this place again, but for right now it is definately OFF my List. No way am I again paying for this slop. Something is badly off course now at Michael's. You know me, I always give credit where credit is due, and give U the straight skinny on these places I rate, one way or another. Mt breakfast looked really slopped together by someone who obviously didn't give a shit and looked like they were out all night drinking. Even the coffee cup was dirty. This place has been there forever! You've (like me) have probably driven by it a million times and either (1) didn't notice it or (2) always wondered if they did any business - as there are rarely cars in the parking lot. Me and the BF stopped here after black Friday shopping, just because I've been so curious about it. It is a long old building on the side of 111th. It has a real diner look about it. Inside is old - a bit dingy, but not dirty. Seat yourself, the lady tell us. I think she was the only waitress working. She was funny and friendly and on her game. Best-hashbrowns-hands-down! They were so crispy, without being greasy. The food was really-really-really good. I had a greek omelet, and my BF had some sort of big meat omelet. I got the pancakes and he got texas toast. Walked in here on a Tuesday morning, and was instantly whisked back to a childhood of off-the-beaten-path road trips. This place really belongs in some small, rural farming community in central Wisconsin, or somewhere similar to that. It is very dated in architecture and decoration (Think Naugahyde seats, red soda-fountain stools at the counter, dark, faux-wood paneling on the walls...) but that kind of just adds to it's charm. We chose a booth, and was promptly greeted by our server, who informed us of the Tuesday breakfast specials. I had to ask her to repeat it because I thought she said "Everything on the menu but steaks and pork chops in $3.95 today." Actually, that is what she said. So after ordering, I sat back with a cup of good, strong coffee, and listened to the casual bantering of the locals sitting at the counter. The food was pretty OK. (on my first visit.) The sausage and cheese omelet I had was good, the hash browns plain but plentiful, but the pancakes were not all that good. Way too dry for my liking. Even butter and syrup only helped out marginally. On my second visit, I had the skirt steak and eggs. Fantastic for the price! (Only $8.95!), and the fried eggs I had with it were perfect! And the toast instead of pancaked helped out too! All-in-all, a great kind of greasy-spoon sort of place to catch a cheap and decent breakfast. They are also open for lunch. Also, just as a side note, all the artwork on the walls, and all the artificial flower displays in the windows of this place are all made by local artists, and are available for sale. So if you need a woodcarving of wolves, or an oil painting of cowboys riding off into the sunset, they have it here. read more

That I can deal with very easily. The regular prices on the menu are very low priced to begin with. The menu is quite large here and the food was good. It did not blow me away by any means but when you receive a good meal, at a good price in good quantity, it rates very highly with me. Our server was great and took very good care of us. This place is your typical diner with typical diner fare. It is set in a little strip mall and if you are driving down the street and you blink, you will miss it. The place is also old and is really looking its age and then some. It was clean and i don't associate being worn down with being dirty. The question I now have: Is it Tuesday yet? Michaels's has been open for awhile after their fire. Even though it was rebuilt inside it still looks pretty much the same. The best thing I seen was the Buffalo Wings chairs being used in the dining room. Looks like some of the pre fire employees are back to work there, which would indicate to me that there is some bad service to be had like the past. Went for my standard omelet breakfast, it was hot and tasty and there was plenty to eat. My only gripe would be with the coffee. Sorry I judge a breakfast a lot on the coffee and how often refills are made. My decaf coffee was barely warm and trying to get a refill was a trying experience. Also I noticed that all the pre fire characters that were here every day were not insight during my visit. Did they land at another place to eat? read more

I admit this place is a little hole in the wall, but their breakfast is by far the best for the price.
