Today I visited this store with my three children to purchase a few items and when I reached the front, I politely asked if someone could assist me at the register. I was directed to the self-checkout area instead. While I was in the process of checking out and obviously struggling the employee at the front began making comments about my children. As a parent managing three young kids by herself, it is extremely difficult to complete a transaction at a self-checkout station while also ensuring my children are supervised appropriately. This is precisely why I requested assistance in the first place. I was disappointed not only by the lack of support, but also by the tone and comments made during our visit. Customer service should feel supportive and welcoming, especially for families. It was frustrating to see multiple employees present, yet none available to provide direct assistance when requested. I should not be expected to perform the duties of a cashier while an employee stands nearby making comments about my children instead of providing assistance. Unfortunately, due to this experience and the overall lack of professionalism, I do not plan to return to this location. I hope you will take this feedback into consideration to improve the customer experience for others in the future. read more

All we needed was a helium canister for our balloons. We found one salesperson who told us what aisle she thought it was on. To no avail, it was not there, and we were left wandering the entire store. There were some on the top shelf near the front, but I could not reach it without breaking my neck. Staff: Only had a brief encounter at the self checkout. The young man was nice. What is needed is employees checking on customers while they shop. The last 2 times I have had questions that went unanswered. I didn't want to walk around trying to find someone. Quality-Quantity: This is a beautiful, clean, nicely organized store. Came here to get some helium balloons (12 for $12!!) for my boyfriend's homecoming from his deployment. I got 4 red, 4 white, and 4 blue balloons all filled with helium. Unfortunately they deflated in less than 12 hours. HOWEVER! On a very very positive note, Josh and his team here had amazing service and were able to give me 12 balloons in order to fulfill this homecoming that I had planned! My recommendation is to come a little later if helium balloons are needed. There is a 24 hour guarantee, so long as you follow the photo I have attached with this review. There was an extremely rude OLD lady working here with long hair and glasses, she told me I was lying about the fact that this store used to have two different entrances for the regular checkout line and the self checkout line. I specifically remember there used to be a sign for the self checkout side and another for the regular checkout side because why would you have self checkout if it wasn't a completely different line?!?! She's lucky I walked out because I was extremely close to telling her off in front of everyone for her extremely condescending attitude acting like I made this fact up. We need Party City back. I ordered a 10 AM balloon pickup, walked in at 10:10 AM and they had not started the order. Took until 10:50 AM for them to finish the balloons so I had to stand around 5 months pregnant for 40 minutes. Wouldn't have been terrible if they were working hard on it, but instead they started walk up orders while I'm waiting there instead of working together on my order. Michaels used to be such a great place to shop with their shelves stocked full! I would know because I used to work here a couple years ago. I decided to stop by the other day to get a head start on the friendship bracelets for the Taylor Swift Era's Tour in August. I thought I was getting a head start but everything I was looking for was pretty much sold out. I picked out some string that wasn't my first pick but it worked. Thankfully I saw two bag of the alphabet beads so I grabbed one. I I've been making necklaces and bracelets for years so I had a plethora of glass beads. I checked my phone for a coupon and it seems like it's always a 20% off coupon on everything. It's better than nothing so I had it open on my phone. I would have bought the second bag but I never go on days there's a 40% coupon. I walked over to the line and there were maybe around 6 people standing there. One actual person checking out and the rest were four or five self check out machines. I noticed that nobody in line was going to the self check out machine. The manager was even trying to encourage people to use the self check out machines over waiting for the cashier. I can understand the frustration with having more self checkout machines than actual employees from a guests perspective. Many times when people come here they buy a bunch of craft supplies and nobody wants to individually scan each item when there's people who are actually employed just standing up and supervising you. After the encouragement nobody seemed to budge. I took it upon myself to go to one because I had two items and other errands to run. Now it might be because I'm from a more anti-social generation but I don't mind self check out machines if I only have a few items. It is a bit left field for this specific location to have self check out machines. Overall the quality of the store and service has gone down dramatically but they still have what I need when I do need something. read more

I was extremely sad and disappointed that I spent a considerable amount of money for what I thought were beautiful faux roses for my wedding...but after I put them all together in a gorgeous arrangement and stored it in my bedroom after about a month went by I noticed they started turning from beautiful white to a gross yellow! I realized they were near a window but blinds were always shut. There was no warning or indication on the flowers that they needed to be stored a certain way. I attempted to return them or even exchange them and they refused because "they couldn't resell them". How could Michaels be okay with taking my money and leaving me with awful looking flowers I'll have to throw away for my wedding. Buyer beware. Keep your receipt and don't let their flowers see the light of day apparently. What a loss. Last thing I needed was to take a financial hit during wedding planning :/ read more

I'm a long-time Michaels shopper, but I was completely disappointed by my visit today to the store on El Paseo in Laguna Hills! I needed a specific type of art paper, but there was no one to help me find what I needed. When I was ready to check out with the few things I was able to find, there were no humans to help me, only 3 self-checkout stations to which everyone was directed. I don't use self-checkouts! I don't work there, and I don't want to take the job of someone who might. It looks like Michaels is looking to fire as many workers as possible, and I may have to start shopping elsewhere. Brand new store, much smaller than the one they left behind, though closer to the freeway, not necessarily better location. Merchandise is packed to the brim, Halloween stuff is already out. The aisles are closer, feels cramped. If you are here for the 1st time, do stroll around the entire store as the layout is nothing like other Michaels, so you have to look for what you want. It doesn't take that long. I needed something in the locked case, cannot find anybody to help. One person at frame, she's helping someone and someone else is waiting for her. Cashier is also busy and had a line. I walked around the store 5 times, finally found someone to help. Store is definitely under staffed. Overall experience is average, nothing really good or bad. And I'm not crazy about the new location or the cramped store. read more

Rude manager alert!! The manager, Laura, rudely told me my online order wasn't ready and to check my email in about 30 minutes. I asked her if I could just cancel the online order, and go look around the shop for my item. She didn't acknowledge my question and proceeded to take a phone call. When she was done, she looked up at me annoyed, and said "what was your question." I said never mind, I'll just go get it myself and cancel my order. She replied, "that's fine, but you'll have to see if we have it and wait in line and cancel the order yourself." I had the most unbelievable experience here on Friday night 10/20/23...a few days prior I purchased a rolling cart from here for around 70 dollars and paid extra for the "protection" plan that they kept pushing. After assembling it at home I realized it was very poor quality and wobbled terribly so I disassembled it and took it back to Michaels with my husband and toddler waiting in the car before dinner thinking this would be an easy return. Immediately while holding this huge box I was told that I had to file a claim online (what???) I said "umm I just want to return this, how do other people return items to Michaels who didn't purchase a protection plan? They just can't???" The woman who I am assuming was the manager just said "nope". As if it wasn't bad enough that I was seemingly being punished and having to jump through all of these hoops for paying for this protection plan all I got afterwards was an email congratulating me that my claim was approved and that I had a credit for Michaels stores. The manager tried to normalize this experience despite me saying multiple times that I did NOT want to purchase anything else at Michaels. She had no explanation as to why I couldn't get my money back with the original packaging, my receipt in their system, and a "protection plan" that I paid extra for. She could only give me a phone number to call....(yay more work for me to do)....After that I even thanked her because I could tell she was flustered and all she said was "yup" as if I was the problem here. No apology, nothing. My poor husband and toddler were starving. Needless to say I'll never shop at Michaels again. read more

I did a curbside pick up order online and when I went to pick it up they couldn't locate, instead of just making me wait not knowing what was going on, Emma came out to my car and let me know what was going on. She was so sweet and friendly she smiled and told me she was looking for it and would come right back out which she did after collecting all my items from the shelves because my order wasn't there. She went above and beyond to help me and was nice and friendly the whole time!!! Sadly lately people haven't been as nice and friendly(not saying this store just everywhere in general), they forget how much it makes a difference when they have a smile on their face and are polite. Michaels is conveniently located next to Route 5, about five miles south of the point where Route 405 joins Route 5. During the years 2018-2019, I shopped at the location at 25463 El Paseo in Aliso Viejo. Michaels is in a shopping mall that can easily be seen when driving on Route 5. Michaels provides a small universe of products for people who enjoy devoting their time to hobbies at home. Since I was a kid, my home hobby has been painting with acrylics, oil paint, water colors, and enamel. For the past 15 years, I've relied exclusively on Michaels as a source of pre-stretched canvases, acrylic paint, and enamel paint. On occasion, the line of customers in the check-out line is long, but these lines always move along quickly. I've always had good experiences with the cashier. Also, I've always had good experiences whenever I've needed help with finding a product. My only recommendation for people needing enamel paint, is that they bring a magnifying glass in order to read the label on the Testor's paint. I need to determine if the enamel paint is FLUORESCENT, FLAT, OR GLOSSY. Usually, I need glossy, but under certain conditions, my artistic needs call for fluorescent paint or flat paint. I do these enamel paintings on compact discs that contain music compilations. Attached are photographs of some of the paintings that I've done using enamels from Michaels. UNUSUAL USE FOR WHITE ACRYLIC. During the years 2011-2014, I worked in Costa Mesa and my apt. was on Paularino Ave. My habit was to read books while leaning back on my chair, with the top of the chair's backrest contacting the wall. For example, I read a book (Tincal Trail) about the borax industry in California. Eventually, the top of the chair dug a big hole in the plasterboard wall. I fixed it this way. I mixed dry rice with Elmer's glue, plugged up the hole, and waited for it to dry. Then, I sanded it smooth, and then covered the sanded wall with a thick coating of WHITE ACRYLIC PAINT from Michaels. That did the job. Nobody would ever guess that there was once a 5-inch wide hole in the wall. read more

I'm sitting and waiting to be helped at the custom framing department as I write this. There is a couple being helped ahead of me who are giving the employee a lot of trouble. They are disrespecting her at every turn, as well as fighting with each other when they don't have her to yell at. Despite this, the employee is remaining completely calm, respectful, and patient with them. It takes a lot of professionalism to stay calm in the chaotic situation like this and I just want to say she is doing a great job (I wish I knew her name so I could praise her personally here). I want to give Sam in the framing department a HUGE THANK YOU for framing 3 pictures for my husband and myself. He was late leaving at the end of his shift to make sure our three pictures were perfect. Sam listened to our story and magically took our order, our very expensive order. Honestly, I think this is the nicest Micheals I've ever been too. It's huge, the isles are wide & open, much more then a lot of other Michaels & craft stores I've been too. Very clean, organized & well stocked. There was a lot of options & tons of clearance & nice leftover holiday items up to 90% off. I'm not even that crafty but that place inspired me lol It has so many options! Also, after reading some of the reviews for this place, people need to lighten up! We are privileged to live in this beautiful county. Waiting more then 5 minutes isn't gonna kill ya! Automated thank you messages on the isles really shouldn't irritate you THAT bad! Breathe, people! Relax! Be grateful for your life & the privileges we have here & for service people working at minimum wage trying their best. You see an employee not smiling? Try smiling AT THEM ask how their day is? Maybe they're not smiling because they've had to deal with rude, ungrateful, entitled people all day and just need someone to say Hey how's your day going? This Michaels is located in the building that used to be Sports Authority in that plaza next to the train tracks. Even with all the cash registers having cashiers available, getting through the line took a long time. They also ran out of the Christmas decoration we were shopping for. But they were nice. There wasn't a lot of parking at the time. We probably came during a busy day. read more
