So I had to buy porcelain tile for the walls and ceiling. But I could use Carrera marble tile for the shower pan floor and slab Carrera Mable for the bench seating. Being a long time Bellevue resident, I am no stranger to what I will just call, "The Boutique"…read more Small, quaint shops that overcharge for items you could reasonably find elsewhere. When I walked passed this place, it caught my attention, I saw a couple things in the window that caught my eye and I was curious about costs. I was greeted by 3 women, who couldn't not have been nicer. One even asked what brought me in and when I saw the curb appeal caught my attention, I got the impression my feedback wasn't well taken. That said, I say plenty I could have considered gift worthy, but the pricing was like the Disneyland Gift Shop. Holiday items were 70% off. Truth be told, it lowered the items to a price that was far closer to reasonable and as a former retail buyer, I can tell you, if you can afford to sell anything for 70% off you are charging too much for other items. There is a reason Nordstroms can have massive sales 3 times a year where the entire stock is discounted and that is the same reason, they are now closing locations and losing business to online retailers who sell for a fair price daily. This is also Marysville, so why am I being asked to pay. Medina pricing? Listen the store is quaint, you will certainly see something that interests you, but the sticker shock here is real and reminds me of my trip to San Francisco last year where a candy store was charging $25 a pound for the same candy Winco sells for $4 a pound, or even less in bulk from Amazon. God bless them, I never want to see anyone go out of business, but affordable is not a word I would use to describe this place.

I've been to the shop twice and have not been satisfied with the service I have received. The…read morefirst time I felt like the employees thought they were doing me a favor. They certainly charged me what they wanted since they are the only framing shop on the island. I thought maybe it was just a bad day but found the same poor attitude and service the second time I went into the store so I complained. I ended up taking my project to Anacortes instead. The store there was delightful, friendly and the energy was welcoming. Basic good business. Reflecting back, the work quality at Gene's Art & Frame was average at best and not worth the close to month long wait. They obviously get away with the bad behavior and act with impunity. Gene's make you sign a legal document saying they charge a 50% nonrefundable deposit. You must pick your project up in 30 days and at 60 they aren't responsible for it. If they damage your art they aren't responsible for more than $500 in damages. If a framer does good work the customers want to pick their art up and you don't need to force them to sign a shady legal document. Law 101 you can't disclaim liability Gene's. I hope you can avoid the frustration and disrespect I felt at Gene's. It's simply not worth it.

And that was worth losing what could have led to hundreds of dollars in sales of framing? I didn't even let it get that far so they don't realize the loss in sales.
