My 3 sisters and I discovered this boutique on a recent girls weekend at Sun Peaks. We were in the…read morestore for quite some time and between us spent close to $700.00. However, shortly after leaving the store we realized that 2 of us had purchased identical shirts from the sale rack but that we'd been charged 2 different prices for them; mine being marked at $24.99 and my sister's being marked at $34.99. We returned to the store thinking that my sister had been overcharged but were surprised when the sales assistant first tried to tell us that mine was "older" stock and had therefore been marked down by 70% while my sisters' was newer so was marked down 50%. When we pointed out that both shirts had the same RO# on them she then told us that someone else who worked in the store "sometimes marks things at different prices". She then agreed that both shirts were "old" stock but continued to make excuses about why they were priced differently. We realized that she was not about to refund my sister the $10.00 difference. When we said we didn't understand [her rationale] she appeared to be annoyed and spoke in a rather loud voice and asked my sister if she wanted her to refund her credit card for the $10.00. At this point we were beginning to feel embarrassed as there were other customers in the store. My sister decided there was no point in pushing this sales assistant further, so we told her no and left the store. I'm amazed that the sales assistant didn't have the decency or smarts to refund the $10.00 immediately in this situation. We left feeling ripped off by 406 Boutique. Customer service can make or break a shopping experience and I don't think we'll be going back to this store again.

I was the Maid of Honor for my friend's wedding on the May long weekend and the bride wanted us to…read moreget our dresses at 406 Boutique. From the very beginning my shopping experience at 406 Boutique was less than enjoyable. The owner made me feel very uncomfortable and self-conscious while trying on dresses through a plethora of tactless comments. One such comment made was that the dress would have looked better if I had fit into the dress better. I range from a size 14 to a 16 and the only sample sizes for the dresses ranged from size 8 -10. Eventually the bride settled on a dress but we were unable to order the dresses right away due to another bridesmaid not being available at the time. As soon as I got the OK from the bride to order the dress, I went in to get measured. Upon arrival at the store, I was condescendingly informed that I should have come in sooner and that the dresses may not come in on time. The owner hastily measured me (on top of all my bulky clothes) and I paid for the dress and left. When I was told that the dress had arrived, I again came in right away for the fitting only to learn that the owner had ordered my dress two sizes too big for me. The dress that came in was a size 20. That night I found a sizing chart on the designer's website stating that the biggest size I would have needed was an 18 (that would still have given a few inches extra on my hips.) Once I got into my tent of a dress, the owner started pinning the dress and I saw that at LEAST two inches (on each side) needed to be taken in. The dress also needed to be shortened and the straps taken in, but that was expected. To make matters worse, she was going to charge me $75 to take in the dress that SHE had ordered way too big. I was not happy, and started to voice my concerns but was bluntly brushed off by the owner. I decided that I wasn't going to make a big deal about it as long as the dress was made to fit by the wedding. After leaving the shop, I heard nothing about the dress for just over two weeks. With two weeks until the wedding, I decided to call and get an ETA for the dress. The owner answered the phone, said she had no idea when it would be done, and then abruptly ended the call. The next day, I got a call from another employee at the store saying that the dress was ready so I immediately drove to pick it up. The dress still needed to be taken in more, hemmed, straps shortened more and with this extra work it then wouldn't be ready until a few days before the wedding. When I came back for the dress, the owner rushed me in and out of the fitting room, gave me a big five-dollar discount on the alterations for the inconvenience and I left. When I got home I had a closer look at the dress and noticed that the stitching on the side's inner lining was very loose. Within ten minutes of putting on the dress on the day of the wedding the side seam began to literally fall apart. I had to have another bridesmaid sew it back up mid-photoshoot so it wouldn't totally fall apart! Today I went in to speak with the owner, who offered little in the way of apology or compensation. I requested a refund of two thirds of the money paid for alterations as the work done on the sides (the majority of the alteration) was of very poor quality. She refused, claiming that it was a lot of work to hem and take in the strap and instead only offered $25 back. I know for a fact that the dress was hemmed with a machine and that is not difficult or time consuming, especially if you are an experienced seamstress as she claimed to be. The owner did suggest that she would have fixed the dress for free but the additional alterations left no time for repairs before the wedding and I had no interest in having post-wedding repairs made to a dress that I will likely never wear again. This extremely poor experience could have been avoided if the owner had put some effort into making myself and the other bridesmaids feel like we were't just there to waste her time. She needed to put a whole lot more care and attention into measuring for and altering dresses and she should have been less defensive and more willing to make right a mistake so as to satisfy a customer. I would not dream of entrusting 406 Boutique with the responsibility of ordering or altering dresses for my upcoming wedding, and I have no problem warning my friends and other would-be brides to stay far away from 406.
