Michaels has self checkout now. I was using $5 reward voucher. The self checkout associate told me to scan the voucher instead of pressing the coupon button. Checkout seemed a little quicker now since I am doing it myself. read more

After carefully choosing several items I brought them up to the self check computer. The price marked on the manufacturer label was not what popped up on the register so I waited for the cashier. She walked away and pulled the same item with a white sticker gun label for 3 times more the amount. Instead of saying she was sorry she couldn't honor the price clearly marked on the label she said nothing. Just showed me the white sticker price. If this was a manufacturing defect on the label, it wasn't my fault. If this was an issue with the store putting out the wrong price on their items, it wasn't my fault. The customer should be granted the price on the item that is clearly marked. Instead of saying she would get the manager to see if they could honor the prices on my items since they are clearly marked, she said nothing. No apology. In my business I have spent thousands of dollars at Micheal's. I will not be returning to this Micheal's in the future. This is why on line shopping is so popular. Shoppers beware! This is a nice big Michael's! I usually go to this one or the one in Harvey when I need crafty things. My Mom and I went on a Sunday afternoon looking for a cake pan that looks like a house (she loves to bake and wanted to make a gingerbread looking house for Christmas). Fortunately tshe got the last one there. She also needed to get a Christmas gift for work so we bought some ribbon (at 60% off for the holidays!) and a little decorative fake branch/berry thing to put with it. We were going to buy a throw at Target and make it pretty with the ribbon etc. When we had questions the sales lady was quite nice in helping us find what we needed. Plus they have a modernized check out lanes with multiple cashiers so we didn't have to wait long. I took off a star because it is more expensive than Target or Wal-Mart but it has a HUGE variety of items to choose from. Plus they have coupons in the Sunday paper all the time (wish I knew we were going there because I would have gotten the coupon). Anywho, it was a good shopping experience in spite of it being the holidays. Also, if you've never been to Michael's picture that it is a big store for any craft thing imaginable. There is baking stuff, sewing stuff, scrapbooking items, yarn, baskets, fake flowers, frames etc. I could go on forever! I have also seen them have tables set up in the front (I might be mixing this with the one in Harvey) where they have classes you can take. They are also kid friendly with crafts for kids which is great when I want to get stuff for my nieces. read more

What a disappointment! I got an email for a great deal on a Fujifilm mini 8 or 9 camera with a free Fujifilm instx mini 10 ct. I woke early to run out and grab one but the cashier told me that they are out of the film. I asked if I can purchase the camera and get a raincheck on the film and she says no. I left but came back and asked if she can tell me if other Michael's still has it in stock and her reply is that she would need the code to the film. I've done retail before, she could have look it up by going to their store computer or make calls to other Michael's. She end up giving me a closer Michael's phone to call and they were also out of both the camera and film. What a waste of time and false advertising on Michael's. read more

I'm gonna start by saying that I am NOT crafty at all, so I can't really give a review from a "crafters" point of view. Michaels is a really cool store that has everything (or close to it) that a creative type could ever want. Paints, beads, markers, crayons, and clay are just a few things you can get here. What I really like about this store is, if you have a kid, you could take them in here and let them pick out a fun activity for them to do. They sell things that you can paint and decorate, like wooden cutouts. They have coloring books and crafts of all types. If you get a child started with this kind of thing early, they will be creative for life. It's also a good idea to pick up colors and crafts for a kids party or rainy days when a child needs something to do. Michael's also carries frames and things like that. Like I said, I'm not a person who is really into crafts, but if I were, this would be my spot. read more

I'm fairly positive this Michaels has most everything. I usually am in and out of this Michaels, but was afforded some browsing time the other day to look for a DIY stamp kit, blank cards w/ envelopes, and other oddities. Not only is this Michaels seemingly closer to me than the Kenner one despite having to cross the bridge, it's amazeballs. Don't be frightened by the ominous bridge. There are so many businesses over here. In the same parking lot is Best Buy, World Market and Barnes & Nobles among other businesses; all places I would have to go out to Metry for if I didn't just learn how to get over the bridge. I found the DIY stamp kit, blank cards w/ envelopes, and a shiz ton of other things to meet my Pinteresting needs that are bordering on crazy town. Again, always pull up the site for coupons before you check out. There is almost always a 40% off a single item coupon on their site and I always use it. I did go on Christmas eve eve, so I wasn't able to get too much help finding my way through the labyrinth that is this Michaels. It took me a while to actually find these clutch items so I wish the signage for where things are at was more obvious but now that I know where the screenprinting items are so I can make MY OWN SHIRTS (yeah that's right), like the Arnold Schwarzenegger of crafting...."I'll be back." I will check next time if there are signs that are obvious that I just totally missed. I was so excited that I squealed with delight when I saw that a Michaels was moving to the wank.. Sooo much closer of a drive! I went right after it opened, but didn't buy anything because the line was insanely long. I went home and became facebook friends with the place, but that only lasted about 2 weeks, because they spammed me with invites and strange updates. I didn't think it was necessary for them to invite ALL their customers to some cake decorating class.... or post up several updates about the "scrapbooking cruise" that was coming up in another state..... in six months. I came back yesterday to help a friend pick out wedding supplies and decorations. The whole place has somehow become an unorganized mess since my first visit. How could a brand new business become such a trainwreck so quickly? The clearance areas were ALL OVER the store, with items spilling out onto the floor, and items without prices sitting out.... and the items that were on sale weren't marked quickly, which led to a lot of confusion and waiting to get a price checked on something. Another annoyance was little signs that said "USE YOUR COUPON ON ME!". Well, little sign, I would love to, but Michael's doesn't place flyers in the stores, only in the newspaper and online. So, no coupon for me. The Michaels in Kenner has a lot more of the items that I like, such as embroidery and t shirt stuff. I think I will just keep going there on my monthly trek and steer clear of the Harvey Michaels until they get it together. read more

I used to think Michael's was just for beads and other arts & crafts type stuff. But, they also have a whole section of baking supplies! Because these things are not available at Walmart or Target Michael's is the go-to store for both my artsy needs and my baking needs. Wish I didn't always spend so much here though. read more

Since retiring from NYC to New Orleans in July of 2019, I now have the time to revisit my passion for drawing and sketching. Since Michaels at WestBank was on our way to shopping, I opted to check them out. Super glad I did! I was assisted by friendly, knowledgeable Emily, who has since become my 'personal art supply consultant'; I've been back to this store many times since that first visit. The heavy recycled drawing paper is just the thing. Cedar pencils allow me to sketch quickly, and erase well if I mess up! Today I was looking for modest priced picture frames, and Emily showed me a range of items, so I could make a well-considered selection. Found two that were just perfect for my drawings. I work in deep, vibrant color so I settled on pens and markers by Creatology. They have double tips, allowing you to achieve the precise thickness and depth of color that really work for your drawings. Reds and purples are sometimes tricky, but not with these. Creatology offers an incredible range of colored markers and ink crayons. Also for skin tones - the spectrum: from palest white to sepia, browns, to deepest black. Your 'people on the page' will look just right. Really cool place for artists and crafters - whether you're a pro, or just an enthusiastic amateur like me! read more

My partner and I walked in this morning looking for some plastic flowers and vases to keep his mother busy during the day. We found an entire aisle of clearance flowers. As other reviews state, this store is B I G and full of great things. A sales associate named Laura helped us and was really sweet. She had a warm personality and big ol' smile the entire time she rang us up. Then as we pulled out the debit card, she gave told us it was customer appreciation day and she had one card to give to one customer on this day. She thought we should have it to help with my partners mother's flowers(we were buying a LOT of flowers). It was five dollar gift card. We were thrilled to death as Alzheimer's can really eat away at the savings account. In the past we've always driven to Elmwood to shop at Michaels, but from now on we'll hop on the expressway to see Laura. Thanks! read more

I took a trip to Michaels yesterday - my first since they opened the Wank location about a year ago. I needed some poster board and a sharpie for a sign, but also decided to look for canvas, paint, etc. for some upcoming projects for the baby's room. There were children running through the aisles and, at one point, even ran into my cart. Of course, I blame this on the parent, not the store. It did make the shopping experience that much less enjoyable, though. The store itself is laid out like any other Michaels. Sewing stuff in one area, scrapbooking in another, painting stuff in the corner, etc. It was easy to find what I was looking for. The canvas was 40% off too, so yay for unexpected deals. My only employee interaction came from the cashier. She was friendly, and even commented on how quiet my kid was. I think she meant in comparison to the monsters that were still running around the store screaming. Seriously, I was glad to leave... maybe Michaels needs to adopt some sort of policy where kids have to be in a cart or on a leash? read more

Of the 3 Michales stores in the area, the Harvey one is my favorite. The Harahan store makes me feel claustrophobic, and the Metairie (almost Kenner) one is pretty far away. A really decent selection and plenty of coupons make this my go-to place to stock up on art and craft supplies. Every now and then they're out of certain things, but it's never anything that's vital to me at that moment. It's brightly lit, has high ceilings, is nicely sized, and has ample parking, which all help to make it a more relaxing shopping experience. The couple of times I've asked for assistance, they've been very helpful and nice. The only drawback that has really made me go to the Metairie one, is that for some reason I've been able to find things in Metairie that I can't find at the Harvey store. This is definitely my favorite Michaels, and one of my favorite places to shop in general. read more

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this store. It has all the fun stuff. I'm finally about to try some crafting, but I would always shop here when making throws for Mardi Gras (Nyx's parade). Now I'm on youtube about to make some stuff... (Don't get jealous) I can barely color in the lines, but thanks to Michael's I'm going to give it a try. I've also had four pictures framed here (just stay away from the matting and it will not be as expensive. I'm fairly sure this is the only craft store we have on the Westbank (until Hobby Lobby opens) so I don't have much to judge on. This place has ALMOST anything you could want for crafting. They also have a pretty large kids section with everything from tiny animal toys to art projects for all ages to age appropriate experiments. That being said, I wouldn't really call things well organized. You might find one color of clothes pins in one section, and another color across the store (real story). It's also sometimes difficult to find staff when you need help and there is always at least a 5 minute wait at the check out. Overall a pretty good store, that hopefully Hobby Lobby doesn't take ALL the business from. read more

I'd never been in Michael's before. I've always been in touch with my creative side, but rarely ever carried it out in art form. So I was blown away by the explosion of art stuffs. To bad Michael's is a bait and forget store!! Send you coupons and give coupons at the register. But you can barely use them because everything in the store is always on sale. (right I think they unload the "on sale" sign when they put the new merchandise on the shelves.). I must say the "ON Sale" items look regular priced to me. I really enjoy all the Michael.s. With the opening of the store on Claiborne I don't have to go so far as I live in the East of New Orleans. The staff there remember regular customers and I am in there at least weekly. They are friendly, courteous and helpful. Always ready to assist you. Hobby lobby is no competition for my buisness.
