What a fun store to check out while in the Garden District. They have so much cute trinkets to buy, especially if you're looking for Mardi Gras related trinkets! The upstairs was really cool and bizarre. You just have to see it for yourself LOL. My friend was left upstairs and did notice some things randomly drop, it tripped her out and she ran back downstairs. The staff did confirm that they have noticed some paranormal activity there, but nothing bad! Just a friendly ghost :) One other bizaare thing is that they've got a taxidermy deer merry go round that you can pay $5 for to ride it. read more

Miette is absolutely no different, and I just fell in love the moment I wandered in through their front door. First, there's not enough time in a day to really look at everything they have here. Everywhere you look is another amazing collection of this or that or the other thing that you didn't really know that you needed, but now that you've seen it, you know you really NEED IT. Kitchy, glam, fab, sexy, gorgeous... you name it, they have something to fit the mood that you are in, or that you are trying to achieve. They have great displays, and the staff that works there are well versed in their products and can help guide you to whatever you need, or if you're feeling a bit more benevolent, that perfect gift to take to someone back home! Miette is a really cool shop located on Magazine Street in the same block as Juan's and Aiden Gill. Miette has cool and trendy clothing and accessories. If your cool and trendy, or are just trying to be cool and trendy, this is the place for you. Some of the items I looked at had labels written in Korean. Apparently many of the items come from Korea and are for smaller statured women. I am a giant, and a dude, so none of the clothes are really geared towards me, but they did look cool. There were also some kid's onesies including my favorite one said Poo Dat. There is lots of jewelry and other cool items from local artists. Several light fixtures made from old Mardi Gras beads are also for sale. The owner was really cool and helpful and answered all of my questions. If you're in the market for some really cool clothing and your a small girl Miette is for you. If your not a girl there is still plenty of cool jewelry and other household items. read more

I noticed Miette strolling down Magazine street and decided to stop by my second time passing by. I am so glad I did. If you love things that are cute, naughty, sexy, absolutely adorable, or slightly morbid and glittery you will love Miette. They are a bit pricey, but if you consider the craftsmanship that goes into these items it is well worth it. Well done, wearable art costs a bit more. I'm OK with that. Also, being able to support local artists and women in business is pretty dope too. Some of my favorite items here include: "I'm Your Present" earrings (super cute, funky, original and made from laser cut acrylic which makes them light enough for my sensitive ears). This is one of the stores I think I would love at any age. I'm currently just looking for a decent excuse to wear my latest purchase, a unicorn horn. They have them in three different (maybe four) different sizes and various sparkly colors. My friend's logic, "I mean, whenever I want to be a unicorn, I get bummed because I don't have a horn, so might as well stock up." Walking in is an experience in itself with the potential for a seriously fun eye-spy game from ceiling to floor. This store is cute, sexy, funny, witty, dark, sparkly, and everything in between. Miette is definitely one of my go-to spots for gift giving with a great range on prices. From cute pins, reasonably priced sunnies, cards, candles and soap to local designer pieces that I have on my wish list for when I want to splurge. It usually takes me at least 20 to 30 minutes to walk all over the store and finally decide on what to get. Again, it's weird and all sorts of beautiful so if you're a "White House, Black Market / Egg shell is my favorite color" type, and you don't believe in unicorns or the babadook...Maybe just keeeeep walking. ;) read more

This is an adorable shop, if you are or someone you know tends to gravitate towards gifts that are a little "different". I stopped in here on black Friday weekend to do some early Christmas shopping, when I came across this place. I would say that this place is like Claire's for adults. They have so many cute little things such as snowball and Hubigs pie magnets, unicorn horn headbands, earrings, other jewelry and kitschy candles. Many of the products are made locally and have a "New Orleans lean" to them, so this is a good place to shop if you are looking for some NOLA souvenirs but you don't want to venture into one of the French Quarter shops. I picked up a few cool jewelry pieces while I was here and I will definitely return to see what else they have to offer. read more

What a fun little shop *and* a phenomenal place to get gifts that verge on the spectacular (affordable at that). Your first impression will undoubtedly be of all the incredibly unique and handcrafted lighting that decorates the shop (yes, it's for sale. And at great prices). All kinds of lanterns, chandeliers and lamps that I could picture gracing the home of Betsey Johnson. There's all kinds of stuff to bling out your home here from wall art to knickknacks. I'm trying desperately to cut down on knickknacks, though, so I tried to not be swayed by constant sightings of things I "definitely needed to own." And then there's the accessories. Seriously, you can lose yourself in them for hours. My favorite necklaces were definitely the ones with metal cut-out pendants (I have a thing for key holes and keys). The ultimate in statement pieces... we're talking about almost-chest plates here! Don't despair if you're of the more demure type. There are plenty of other styles, too. I'm talking about what catches my eye here. Clothing is really cute, too (lots of nifty t-shirts). It's kind of sensory overload and I probably can't adequately capture it in just one review. I think that's the intention of the shop owners though and I applaud them for fitting all of the awesome in there like this (and so artfully arranged at that). Need a wacky gift for a friend? Want to just find something superfun and not too expensive? This is your shop. Items purchased here over the years: fun plastic earrings for the grade school nieces, lego themed jewelry for a cousin, fancy bracelet for a special birthday for a friend, cat themed socks for a teen niece, locally made candles for an aunt... and so on and so on. Hahahaha. *takes breath* hahahahah. For some reason this place gives me a similar vibe to what one would have from a Spencer's. Maybe it's just that "women's clothing" makes me actually think more like "young women's clothing", which is what this place tends to be. There are all sorts of kooky knicknacks and some seriously odd and hilarious books at this store. One was something like "how country living works". It was like a backwater kids book of how a tractor works, followed by....hundreds of blank pages. Yes, this was the "how to keep a dummy occupied" book, and/or a blank notebook with random stories interspersed. Either way, I don't get it. They also had some completely random crap that I don't understand, such as 3d paper animal heads that you could expand, and then hang in your room - because clearly young women (or even adult women) want a 3d-paper rhino head to put in their bedroom, as that screams "I may not have a social life and/or may be slightly crazy". They do piercings and have some kind of earring deal for checking in here. We found some hilarious baby clothes, as well. I suggest coming here for the entertainment value, but I don't think there's much of actual interest. read more

First things first: the decor at Miette is exceptional. The enormous flowers adorning the walls and ceiling are all from Mardi Gras floats past. Some are even for sale! Such a great idea to decorate with these beautiful works of art. A lot of the funky shops in New Orleans carry the same kind of stuff, but Miette had a ton of items I've never seen before or since. I especially loved everything in the "Dead Stuff by Sarah" line, even though it was slightly outside of my comfortable price range. There's a wide variety of enamel pins to choose from, in addition to scarves, funky clothing, handmade jewelry, and giftable items. I could have spent hours in there looking at everything. I found the young woman behind the counter to be a bit "too cool" for the whole thing, which was disappointing in such a whimsical shop. When I showed her my "free earrings with check-in" offer, she replied with a click of her tongue and a point to an earring display. All in all, I'm glad I stopped in. I seem incapable of setting foot in here without spending money. Several moneys. There's SO much to look at! Stuff everywhere! Organizedly. Tee shirts, stones, voodoo dolls, puppets, legos, masks, lamps, home decor...... I could go on. Most everyone on my Xmas list received a gift from Miette. The staff are all really cool and pleasant. They don't judge you for spending an hour or two wandering about making selections. I got one of my favorite winter hats (it has ears) and an awesome tee with an out of print book cover and some really cool melted records that are hanging in my living room. Lots of items here that are all reasonably priced. Store is organized by the artist/maker, but for the most part the is easy to navigate. Style wise, I would say that the store is for the unique, eclectic, hipster, sassy, or cat person. Gifts bought from here will usually elicit a "ohmygosh this is so cool/cute/just me!" or a "woah! The store is a great big funky mishmash of super cool quirks of decor, jewelry, clothes, pins & bobbles, accessories a plenty, so much that it makes your head spin. There are many cute items in this shop. I will certainly be stopping by with my Christmas shopping list this year. You'll find everything to gift yourself or your girlfriends at all price ranges. I saw cute and reasonably priced jewelry, magnets, nightlights, dresses, and hand made cards. They even had a visiting artist doing a pop up in their upstairs space. I thought the staff was friendly which made the overall experience enjoyable. I purchased a ring that has a bear on it and a Simone magnet. The only downside was that the artists were different for each of these items so I had to pay separately for them. That's okay, but after I paid $13 for the ring using my card, I had to pay for the $5 magnet with cash OR I would incur a fee for being under the $10 minimum. I had cash (that I was saving for Cafe Du Monde) but I just went ahead and used it. There should be a better way to work these transactions. I really like the shop though and I will be coming back... its like shopping in a brick and mortar Etsy. read more

I did not know what to expect of Magazine Street when Stef and I embarked on our unplanned retail adventure. Miette, from the window front, was very unassuming. Upon entering the boutique; however, we were instantly enthralled. The store is a co-op operated by various independent local artists and designers exhibiting goods ranging from jewelry, clothing, accessories, and home decor. Each nook and cranny of the shop is filled with something pretty spectacular. It has been over a week since Stef and I visited the store and we are still talking about it, back here in Los Angeles!
