I went to a Yelp Event at Chateau Sew & Sew. The owner, Karen, taught us how to make cool ties for local chefs. So, I learned that a cool tie is a tie that contains a substances that cools when you wet it. Chefs use the ties to stay cool while working in hot kitchens. Anyway, the event was called Cool Ties for Cool Chefs. The ties were being given to the chefs for Chef Appreciation Week. Karen, who is the bomb by the way, did an awesome job teaching this old boy to sew. I had no experience whatsoever. I made a few cool ties. They turned out pretty nice, if I must say so myself. Chateau Sew & Sew is a unique business on Magazine Street. They sale fabric for those who are crafty at home. For those of us who are not so crafty (like me), they sale things like hooded towels for kids. They do embroidery. They also offer sewing classes. You may be wondering why a guy went to a sewing class....well, I'm vertically challenged. Don't laugh people. Short people need clothes too. I hoped to learn the basics for sewing so I could start altering my own pants. Karen did a wonderful job acclimating me to that scary sewing machine. I didn't even injure myself. Now, remember, this was a Yelp event to make some cool ties for our awesome chefs in NOLA. So, I can't say that I'm ready to alter my own pants. But, at least I can use the machine now. I plan to take Karen's basic alteration class in September. It only costs $55. That's super cheap. Have you had a pair of pants altered recently? It can cost $15-$30 and it usually takes 1-2 weeks to get your pants back. Ain't no body got time for that.

This store is cute as a button. While I could probably operate a forklift better than a sewing machine, I've found Chateau Sew & Sew to be the perfect spot to help me out in a stitch, I mean sitch. I've had a handful of items monogrammed there including my bridesmaids' shirts and a personal poem on a handkerchief for my father for my wedding (side note: he loved it and wants to frame it). They help you pick from a variety of colored threads and font, and the turnaround was quick though you can pay extra for rush items. I also loved all their kids' items. They have these cute animal hooded towels that I'm just waiting for one of my friends' babies to be big enough to enjoy. Hell...if I were a kid...I've also found great accessories for friends as well, some of which were made in-house! I might not be picking up a pattern anytime soon (though they also have classes), but I will definitely pop in here every now and then for my monogrammed needs or something creative and custom for a friend!

I love my monogrammed beach bag, towels and sunglasses!! Thank you chateau sew & sew and Yelp!

This is such a fabulous addition to this little area right off of Magazine St.! I'll admit that I'm not huge in the crafts or sewing departments, but this store has a friendly staff that will show you around and help you with whatever you need. If you are the sewing type they do sell a lot of different fabrics for your to turn into something amazing. I was most blown away by their embroidery. I got a beach bag embroidered with my name on it and it was lovely. It's the perfect thing to get me ready for the beach. They do embroidery on anything you like, so don't be shy about bringing something in for the staff to work on. They also offer sewing classes for kids, if you are looking to get them into a neat and useful hobby.

This place is awesome! I am totally a rookie when it comes to sewing but a coworker told me she'd teach me the basics. She recommended that I come to Chateau Sew & Sew to pick out some Halloween fabrics because I wanted to make some spooky bowties as my first project. From the moment I walked in, the woman who was working was so incredibly helpful! There are well over 100 fabrics in the store (including many holiday, Saints, LSU, and New Orleans themed ones). I had trouble picking only 2 because I wanted to buy at least a dozen! If you are in New Orleans and need some reasonably priced and unique fabrics, this is your spot. The person working also mentioned they have an online store on their website and an Etsy! I look forward to being a regular here.

I literally could hear the angels sing when I stepped in to this store. I have been sewing since…read moremy teens, which now has been over 50 years. I know a good specialty fabric store when I am in one. I have been to the stores in the Garment District in NYC and Promenade Fabrics is far superior then any of them. Especially in price, selection, and customer service! There is nothing in the NYC garment district that comes even close to the Southern hospitality you are encased in while shopping here. If you don't see what you're looking for then ask! I'm not a gambling person but I'd lay some serious money they'll find it for you. They have the most exquisite fabrics I have ever seen along with vintage French lace and ribbons, and exotic buttons. What appears to be a small store just goes on and on with wonderful treasures of which you would be very hard pressed to find anywhere else in the USA. Hector, the establishment creator and owner, is the most quintessential Southern gentleman and he greets every customer who comes through the shop door. I am originally from Mobile, Alabama and my encounter with Hector harkened back to the days of personal service without any overbearing selling. He wanted me to have a good time while I was there. He showed me fabrics that literally brought tears to my eyes to see. He made me feel at ease asking to see one right after the other of the specialty fabrics located at the back of the store. These fabrics are handled only by the store staff. For a reason. They are delicate, actually very delicate, and exquisite doesn't begin to describe their beauty. (Think Halle Berry's dress when she won the Oscar in 2002). They have high end fabrics from Dolce and Gabbana and many other designers. If you are a seamstress or simply a fabric hoarder (which I think I have become over the years) then I can't even begin to recommend this store highly enough if you are ever in NOLA and have the opportunity to visit. I wholeheartedly agree with each of the other reviews. Do not go in without some serious cash or a good amount of available credit on your credit card as this is a seamstress' temptress of fabrics!! Thank heavens they have an Etsy store: https://www.etsy.com/shop/PromenadeFabrics since I live in Sedona, AZ and can't go to this store everyday of the year that they are open in New Orleans. If I could, I would BUT rest assured that when I win the big megamillion lottery there will be lots and lots of fabric added to my sewing room from Promenade Fabrics.

The owner was so incredibly helpful, this store is full of amazing fabrics sourced from all over…read morethe world! The quality is amazing and there are buttons and ribbons galore. Definitely will be back!
