I heard about Kroma from my Emily Carr friend who suggested it as a local, more economical, and…read moreas-good-or-better alternative to the artist-favourite Golden products. I have to say I am extremely happy I made my first artist-quality paint investment here for those three reasons, and for the small-vendor service I get when I have questions. After consulting with the sole staff member on my first visit I picked up the 15-colour starter set for $60 plus a couple more tubes in larger sizes. Now every time I'm on Granville Island I just love spending a few minutes here where I'm sure to treat myself to a new colour; at $4-7 for a new 60ml tube it's good retail satisfaction value. The reduced selection compared to major acrylic brands is actually a relief to me; I am not bombarded by choice, and I can actually reach a point where there isn't more to collect (a good thing for me). I was very happy to recently see the always-fun Raw Canvas (http://www.yelp.ca/biz/raw-canvas-vancouver) using all Kroma paints...

I *highly* recommend Kroma Artist Acrylics to all artists, professional and amateur alike. These…read morepaints are high quality, very affordable, and Canadian made. I prefer them over all other costly and well known brands. When speaking to their customer service department I was treated professionally and kindly. The time between speaking to their representative (Jessica) on the phone to order my paints to having them delivered to my door - safely packaged- was a mere two days. I live in Alberta. For those who are wary, try out a few of their tubes and reserve judgment until after you have done so. I know you'll be happy with these paints.

So many of my social activities involves eating so the Yelp reviews are always about restaurants…read moreand eateries but thankfully, people who don't think about food 24/7 think about other things to do! Our group of 7 people walked into the place on a busy Saturday afternoon and the place was bustling! The place was filled but thankfully we called right when they opened and they were able to save a spot for our group in the back (Yes, there's another group table space in the back!) The first thing you have to do is pick the piece that you want to paint. There's shelves and shelves of variety and we wanted to paint everything so it was really hard to narrow it down to just one! The price points of the items are written on them so that could also be used as a guide. At the painting table, there's a step-by-step instruction card for you to follow. The staff don't interact with you much, unless you're asking them a question so it'll up to you to follow the card and art is about creativity anyways so you can basically do whatever you want with your ceramic pieces. We were there for a good 4 hours that afternoon because of the three layers we had to paint and our wanting for details on the ceramics. There's a studio fee and a fee for the ceramic fees as well so it can get a little pricey as you move up. They had one large table at the back of the shop but we shared it with another party so there was at least 10 of us at the back of the table so it was a little cramped. There weren't many tiny brushes or the smallest brushes weren't tiny enough to get the detailing that we wanted so it was a little disappointing. Overall, the concept of the shop is great. It's a great way to spend the afternoon and we made very good use of the price we paid for the studio fee but once you pay, someone has to return to pick up the items once they're ready so it can be a little bit of a hassle/ out of the way. This inspired me to want to check out the other ceramic painting shops in the city though!

Walked in randomly and was able to sit and paint, and make something for my adult kids. The lady…read more(assuming the owner) was friendly and helpful. She even shipped my pieces to me as I'm not from the area. They arrived sooner than expected. She estimated a few weeks. I had them within a week. The items arrived damaged-free and more pretty than I expected (I'm far from an artist), so I am very happy with the outcome and afternoon spent at Bella Ceramica.
