I've shopped at the Michael's more than a few times. I like the selection of items compared to the one in Bloomington. I do miss the sales/coupons that they used to offer as corp but for most items I buy they are fairly priced & they now offer a decent rewards program. For the most part this store is pretty clean and organized. More recently I had to make a return. They do offer a few self checkout kiosk now but I never knew you HAD to use them to checkout even though there's almost always 2-3 staff standing in the checkout area. While in line waiting to make my return there was a staff directing people to the self checkout kiosk. When she realized I had a bag she took me to a register to help with my return. There was an older lady behind me that moved up a bit to stand behind me at the register, meaning she wanted to be assisted with her checkout. The cashier told her that the registers were for returns only and that she had to get back in line to use the kiosk. The lady expressed she always has trouble using the kiosk and would rather have assistance and the cashier still stood on the fact that she could only checkout via the Kiosk. I did not like that at all. All I could think about is my older non tech savvy grandparents being treated this way as if everyone is hip to modern technology. I have even had issues trying to figure out how to redeem the rewards vouchers on the kiosk. I get that may be the way world is going (to reduce workers or whatever) but the register can indeed be used to ring up an order and the cashier should have assisted or at least called for help from her other idle coworkers to assist the woman at the kiosk. That was a very poor display of customer service in my opinion. read more

Running errands around Eden Prairie and stopped by this Michael's to look for a frame. I had the print with me as I wasn't sure of the best way to display it (a papyrus print from Egypt). There were a few options that would have worked, and then I spotted the *perfect* frame! So happy to spend $35 rather than a couple hundred on custom framing. This location has self-checkout lanes, which I didn't have any problems with. The gal at the regular register was standing by and thoughtfully offered me a larger bag for my frame. read more

Their return policy is a joke...they don't take holiday merchandise back with a receipt if you purchased it after December 18th! Hoping a new craft store comes in and wipes them out of business. Michael's will have pretty much what you need for arts and crafts. I buy my Windsor watercolors here, my baking needs, and my Fimo (polymer clay) although they need a larger color selection. The store crams so much STUFF into every square inch it's overwhelming. Every aisle is spilling itself onto the endcaps and the main aisles are choked with holiday-specific everything from candles to stuffed animals to reams of stickers. Which brings me to my biggest complaint. This time of year (early November) when you enter the store you will be assaulted by the most aggressive cinnamon smells in the world. Cinnamon brooms, cinnamon sticks, cinnamon scented everything practically creates a cinnamon smog at the front of the store. As someone who is very sensitive to smells (I can't even enter a Yankee Candle store) I have to hold my breath until I make it to the back where (thankfully) most of my supply needs lie. I don't understand this annual violation of our senses or who on earth thinks that overpowering smell is okay. But as long as I have to sculpt themed candleholders for my twin granddaughters born at Thanksgiving, I'll have to hold my breath and shop here. read more

1. If you are going to have self checkouts then they should all have the ability to accept cash payments 2. Self checkouts are unable to activate new gift cards for purchase. 3. Having one human cashier that accepts cash payments and returns on the same register doesn't work well. 4. If your human cashier that is processing returns can not refund to a customer's original form of payment (read...credit card) without calling over a manager to input a special code they shouldn't be on that register. No, I do not want cash back, I want it back to my credit card, Susan. I understand, today's generation doesn't want to work and it's difficult to find employees, but replacing robots for people is not the solution. I'm a very crafty person and with that being said I make frequent trips to Michaels and Joann Fabric. This location I like because it is clean and well organized. One of the things I like is their Price Checker. It does seem hard to find people to help you in the store sometimes so it is nice to have the price checker around. Overall the store is nice. I would like it if they had more people around to help but for the most part if you look for awhile you will find someone. read more

Warning, return value vs what you paid. I guess i am just frustrated with fine print. Used my cc to buy, thought i didn't need my receipt to return it. You only get the lowest sale price. So in this case, my item went on sale & i got 1/2 what i paid because I could not find the receipt. read more

Huge selection of crafts, storage, planners, notebooks, plants, scrapbooking materials, etc.. pretty much anything you can think of Michaels has it! I feel like Micheals is really underrated. It's an affordable store jam packed with everything you could ever need. If you're planning to redecorate your office or bedroom, Micheals is a perfect and frugal way to do so! TIP: The planners are usually 50% off along with the planner assessors (stickers). Overall, the staff are extremely friendly and helpful, the store is clean, easy to find things, and they have great deals! read more

As a matter of convenience, I have been going to this location. This particular Michael's carries all the regular merchandise that all of the other stores carry. I do have to say that the clearance section is a bit more picked over then some of the other stores, perhaps this store has more traffic then others. Now, the traffic - I've been three three times now, on my lunch hour, around 1:30 or so. I am not sure if they are understaffed or what is the problem, but the first time I was there, there were two (2) registers working and I was the fourteenth person (14) in line. The other two times, only two registers open and perhaps around 10 people in line. If you need to quickly grab a few things, the things are there, but it wont be quickly. read more

I stopped by this Michael's to see if they had a better selection of frames than the Bloomington store and boy did they!! The store for the most part was stocked and there were many employees (almost too many, but I'm not complaining since Bloomington had none). They had everything somewhat organized and all the prices were correct. The employees I talked to were extremely nice and wanted to be certain you found everything on your diy/craft list. I docked a star for it being mostly unorganized and a lack of stock on some products, but I will almost certainly be back to this Michael's. read more

I shop at Michael's on occasions and I've always received good service, but not in this particular store. The check out girl is rude and unfriendly and didn't greet or thank me when I was checking out. I'll be shopping at a different Michael's from now on. The one in Edina and Shakopee have always been good. read more

Can't speak to the store as a whole, but I do NOT recommend getting anything framed here. They don't have enough people and the people they do have are...overwhelmed (nice way to put it). They blew past their 2-week deadline for my simple framing project, with no promises as to when it would actually be ready. I found out about the open-ended delay after waiting on hold for more than a 1/2 hour. Excuse: "We're busy and way behind." Pay a little extra and go elsewhere. Wish I had. read more

My husband and I went in looking for a frame for our picture. The staff was exceptional and helped us find the PERFECT frame. It is one that neither of us would have chosen, but when we put our picture in the frame it was a perfect match for the print. I was impressed with the helpfulness of all we met! read more

I went to Michael's to get a family photo framed. We were helped well, but when I went to pick it up, there was an obvious dimple in the photo. Turns out it was due to the fact they dry-mounted the photo and issue happened while doing that. Plus there was dust inside the glass and looked bad. Negative #1: I was never asked if I wanted to have photo dry-mounted, but they clearly charged me for it. Negative # 2: they suggested they could run it through Dry-mount again to see if it would fix it. I said I would come back for it. I went back 7 days later and they had forgotten to fix it. They said it would take 10 minutes to fix it. I waited over 30 minutes with my family waiting in the car and when it came out, it was not fixed. They said they could try laminating it, but at that point I was so infuriated that I did not want them to touch it anymore. I will not return to Michael's for another framing. read more

The people that work at this store are very rude. I went on a Sunday to find a specific product that I know they have. I could not find the product in the store and needed to ask someone where it was. I could not find anyone to help me so I asked the person behind the floral counter if she knew where it was. I received a dirty look from the woman working and she said "Honey, I am a florist....what do you need?" in a very rude tone. I started to walk away and I gave her a look back and said "never mind". As I was walking away she said "No, I can call someone and ask" in another rude tone. I said "no thanks" and walked away. Then, after looking through the store again and still not finding the product I found a guy who worked there and asked him if he knew where the product was. He looked like he was in a hurry and said "I have never heard of it" and was very annoyed that I asked him a question. After getting an attitude from two different employees I decided to leave. About a week later my husband went to see if he could find the product and stopped at the same store. He asked where the product was and the employee he asked didn't know what it was or if they had it but never offered to find out. Finally, my husband found once nice lady there and she knew where the product was and showed him with no problem. The employees here need to get some manners. Since they are in the customer service industry they should expect to be asked questions about where products in the store are. If they don't know or are unsure then they should ask another employee for help. I would not recommend this store and don't plan on going back. read more
