    Books Between Kids collection corner

Michael's has been on my sweets and desserts radar for quite some time. They're a popular spot and I've seen them on local news and food shows. They also had one of their bakers appear on a baking competition on the Food Network. You have to keep your eyes peeled to find it though. It's located off in the back of a shopping strip right off Weslayan. Parking is plentiful. On my visit, we were greeted by Khai. This guy was so enthusiastic and very passionate about the products being sold here. He was patient and answered all the questions we had. Get this man a raise! I also love that they do alot for the community in the form of being a book collection site for Books Between Kids. Reading is fundamental! I decided to buy a 12 pack of cookies to take to the office and share with my peers during our weekly meeting. They have two tiers of cookies. Like literally, the top tier of the display case can be mixed and matched for the variety pack. The bottom tier are their premium selections and come at a higher price. On top of that, they have individually packaged items like seasonal treats, gluten free, etc. they also have day old cookies that are a killer deal. In certain days they have specials as well. For my cookies, I didn't want to go with too many choices and have someone be upset with what's left. I decided to go with the three flavors of Chocolate Chunk, Oatmeal Raisin and Toffee Pecan. Every single one of the items were delicious and a big hit. I watched as everyone took their first bites and stared contently at the cookie and then asked where I got them from. My personal favorite was the Toffee Pecan. This cookie was so good. I'm a sucker for all things toffee and they did this cookie perfectly. Overall, Michael's Cookie Jar has made it to the top of my favorite cookie shops. I signed up for their rewards program so I will definitely be back very soon to try out some more of their items. I need my friends and family to take note and know that cookie cake is my favorite type of birthday cake (hint hint)!

I came out for an event, and ended up getting more than I thought I would. Khai introduced us to the menu, and provided great suggestions. The elite week box had some surprisingly great things I wouldn't normally have ordered, but having salivated back and forth across the display case I wanted to try some other cookies too, and so I got a box. Ingredients really do matter, the better the ingredients the less you need to kill your craving. I nibbled on maybe a quarter of a cookie at a time. I haven't even gotten to my projected favorites yet, because I'm slowly working through the box. I can tell you snicker doodle and sugar cookies are bomb. I haven't gotten to anything with chips raisins or pecans, but rest assured I will get there. Will absolutely come back again, and look forward to seeing their winter cookie line up. They do sell discounted inventory from previous days, and they have cookie happy hour. Check their app for the deals and discounts.

Michael's Cookie Jar has always been in my top 3 favorite cookie shops in the city. My first experience with their cookies was about 10 years ago. When I first moved here I would drive all over the city finding small shops and Michael's was one. Their sweets never disappoint. They offer a variety of freshly baked cookies daily. Service is always fast and friendly. The most recent visit I grabbed my go to cookie Oatmeal Raisin and added a m&m cookie and Reese pieces cookie.

As one of West U's most beloved businesses, Michael's Cookie Jar has steadily built a reputation over the last couple of decades for elevating a humble cookie into something worth celebrating. A proud LGBTQ-owned business, this was an accidental discovery for me (and certainly many others) since it's hidden around the corner of the neighborhood post office (#1). I'm not even a cookie person, but I've been smitten since my first bite. The bulk of the store is for the employees, who are decorating, creating, prepping, and baking some of the city's most delectable treats. The front display is a colorful cornucopia of cookies which rotate throughout the season. Some of my favorite cookies include their king cake (seasonal), fruit pebbles (seasonal for Pride month), most anything sugar, snickerdoodle, cinnamon roll (weekends only), and their classic pecan chocolate chunk. They also work with folks for customized messages and serve as a quality alternative to traditional cake celebrations and also make cookie cakes, which range from $30-50. There are also cookie packs of assorted cookies, that are certified oven fresh. The incredibly friendly staff, along with owner Michael who splits time between this location and the downtown one, make this in-person visits so much sweeter. They're also champions of the local space and show love to the people by supporting community events. While there is no seating inside, but a handful of tables and chairs outside for folks interested in eating it on the spot. (#2) Most cookies are somewhere between $1.50-$4.00 a pop, but a pro tip for all: Many of these cookies are available for a steep discount toward the end of the day. ____________ (#1) https://www.yelp.com/biz/u-s-post-office-houston-6 (#2) Highly recommended. Forget that takeout life.

Had a chance to try Michael's Cookie Jar today after lunch! The cookie store is tucked away at an unassuming corner of a plaza, but once you enter there are lots of cookies to choose from. I first heard of Michael's Cookie Jar on TikTok through their videos and wanted to support local. My partner and I decided to try the HTX, campfire s'mores, chocolate chip, and M&M cookies. To be totally honest, I am normally not a huge fan of cookies but these cookies were great!! My favorites being the HTX and the campfire smores. The HTX cookie is a brown butter cookie with toffee and chocolate chips and was perfectly balanced. The campfire smores had a nice soft marshmallow center with a chocolate cookie base and graham cracker bottom. I believe the campfire is a monthly flavor, but I would definitely love it if it was part of the normal rotation! I love that the cookies tasted fresh and some were topped with a bit of sea salt which balanced the sweetness. The service was great and the ambiance of the shop really made it feel like a local neighborhood bakery. I definitely rank Michael's Cookie Jar as one of my favorite cookie shops in Houston, and will definitely be back to try more!

I can't believe I had never been to this cookie shop when it was so near! It is a small store tucked in between a Barnes and usps but the perfect place to stop by for a quick pick me up! Don't judge the store by its size though because that's all the space you need and it is filled with warm goodies and the friendliest staff! Love, love their cookies and can't wait to go back for more! They also have happy hour daily from 3:30-4:30 where you can get 2 cookies for $3!!! What a steal! I recommend the Lemon chew for citrus lovers and the htx!

One word: WOW! I've had cookies from all over... Crumbl, Tiff's, Insomnia, Cookie Co, tiny Boxeeod, etc. however, these cookies are hands down the best, freshest, tastiest, and nicest looking cookies I have had. They are soft, fresh and full of flavor. Not hugely thick which is PERFECT. I got the Pride Box and the two standouts were the M&M cookie (tons of mini M&Ms but not overpowering the cooking) and the Fruity Pebble cookie (the crunch from the Pebbles was very nice and delicious). Not the cheapest by any means but well worth it especially as a treat. I ordered online and set a pick up time. I thought it was a nice touch that an hour before my order was to be ready, they called to confirm it was ready for pick up. The store itself is small and tucked away in the corner of the shopping center. It's very cute inside and the staff is super friendly. Go visit and help out a local baker in the area. You will NOT be disappointed at all.

Michael's has the best cookie cake ever!! So delicious and thick. Chocolatey and amazing! Favorite Cooke cake and also my friends who are not cookie cake people loved this too. This cake converted them!! We last minute ordered via phone and they were very accommodating.

Every time I stop by the post office, I like to pop in and buy a box of Not Today cookies. My fav is the confetti cookie, my kids love the chocolate chocolate chip. You can also find them at Slowpoke's down the street.

I had never heard of Michael's Cookie Jar until one of our coworkers brought a box in for one of our managers who was celebrating her birthday this month. She shared her box of goodies with us from her birthday fairy (a tradition where we draw names and guess who decorated our office and gave gifts during our birthday). Some of the cookies in the box were chocolate chunk and double chocolate chunk. I love a good chocolate chip cookie, so I chose that one. Since they use real butter and fresh eggs, it tastes homemade. I loved the large chunks of chocolate because you'll never take a bite or break a piece without chocolate in it. The cookie itself is not too small/large or thin/thick like other cookie establishments. It was the perfect ratio and size. I prefer these over Crumble and Tiny's. There are two locations - West U and downtown at the Pennzoil tower tunnel. They have 12 flavors and sometimes a seasonal one. I want to try their snickerdoodle, toffee pecan, pecan chocolate chunk, white chocolate macadamia, and peanut butter. Aside from cookies, they also make cookie cakes, walnut brownies, and decorate sugar cookies for special occasions and holidays.

Unfortunately there's only one in the city, but it's "centrally" located (get the pun?) off Westheimer and 610 near the Galleria. We frequent this grocery store a few times a month, and though the products are more expensive overall than your normal Kroger or HEB, the selection is amazing and worth the visit. Here's what I love about Central Market: the produce, salads, sandwiches, meats, seafood, wine, cereal, yogurts, bread, coffee, ice cream, spices - actually pretty much everything. Even their flowers are incredible. Now here are some pro tips; listen carefully: - if you want the real, full CM experience, go on a Saturday or Sunday. You'll feel like you're at Costco waiting in line for samples and trying to push your cart without running someone over. But if you want a quiet, peaceful experience, go on a weekday during the day. You have to work, you say? Take a few hours of vacation or personal time off and head to Central Market. It'll be better than your last few vacations. - they have an app and it's amazing! You can save 20-30% each shopping trip with their offers and coupons. Make sure you add the deals in your app before you go to check out. (This part is a little annoying.) - ice cream section: buy the Hellenika Ube coconut. Just do it. Taste it and you can thank me later. It will change your life. If you want to overpay for it, fly to Seattle and find it at Pike Place Market. - stop buying spices like peppercorn and coriander seeds in bulk that are stored in bottles and jars. Go to Central Market and just buy exactly what you need for your recipe. You'll spend 24 cents for this and 58 cents for that, etc. Not $5 for a jar of spices that will lose its flavor or expire after a year. And the big question everyone asks: Central Market or Whole Foods? Whole Foods has way more locations, but CM takes the cake. It's just amazing. Trust me.

We tried their appetizers including Salmon Rolls (flavorfully packed with cream cheese, salmon, and spinach in a crispy shell and loving that actually spicy mayo on the side), Thai Style Jerky (deep fried and sun dried marinated pork and beef served with sticky rice rolls and side spicy tamarind sauce, a bit too dry/chewy), Fried Tofu (perfect little triangles, so good by itself or with the side sweet and sour sauce with crushed peanuts), Chive Pancake (deep fried and chive packed triangles with a slight chew to it, great by itself or with it's spicy soy sauce companion). As for the mains, the Spicy Seafood Fried Rice is a good value as it was loaded with all sort of fruits of the sea (shrimp, squid, and mussel), with prominent lemongrass and kaffir lime aroma, but a bit wet or moist for a fried rice dish, the Crabmeat Omelet is served with a nice portion of lump crabmeat where you can taste the flavor of the seafood and add sriracha to liking, and the Beef Pad See Ew is made appetizing with wok charred flat rice noodles along with a savory blend of soy sauce, Chinese broccoli and egg. The portion size is alright and filling for a moderately hungry individual, though it would've been even better a tad bigger for those coming in hangry. I'll be back for more when I'm craving some modern Thai food and especially want to try their curry dishes. Service was quick and efficient, attentive to refills on drinks and friendly!

My wife is a very picky donut connoisseur, so the reviews and a friend's endorsement encouraged me…read moreto choose Parlor for her birthday breakfast. Happy to say their donuts and coffee are wife approved! The pistachio raspberry donuy was flavorful without being overly sweet, and the French toast donut tasted exactly as it should with a not-too-srrong cinnamon flavor. The coffee was also very good as well, and made with obvious attention and care. If you like your donuts big and a little extra than your standard glazed (though they offer that too), Parlor seems like a great go to.

I don't know what took me so long to try Parlor Doughnuts. My friend and I had brunch nearby and…read moremade an impromptu stop for dessert. Parlor is known for their layered doughnuts. They have an array of flavors including savory and sweet. They also have mini doughnuts and breakfast options like acai bowls, breakfast tacos, and breakfast sandwiches. I ordered the Maple Pecan doughnut and it was soooo good! I felt a sugar rush the moment I bit into it. The doughnuts are massive so I didn't even try to eat all of it. It was a little messy. I didn't see any clean plates, so I went up to the counter to ask the girl that was working for a plate. It took forever to get her attention and when I finally did, she muttered something under her breath as she went back to get a plate for me. You would have thought that I demanded for her to make me a fresh batch of doughnuts. It was very off putting. I also had a small White Chocolate Blondie Latte. I was able to sub oat milk and surprisingly, there wasn't an upcharge for it. The coffee was really good! The other employee who was working was much nicer. The doughnuts and coffee are really good, but I feel inclined to visit a different location just to avoid that insufferable employee.
