Yarning had its grand opening yesterday, and I was able to stop in today and take a look around…read more It's a tiny shop, but they have a really nice selection of yarns, notions, needles, etc. I particularly appreciate the variety of recycled yarns they offer, even one that will only be offered at a few locations nationwide. I picked up a ball of worsted weight to use for a charity I support, and I'm looking forward to supporting them more. It's so great to have more local yarn shops opening!

The owner did not explain this but sent out a non-employee indie dyer to speak to me. The hitman even refrenced the recent death of my mother.

In fact the big project kit featured in the window (a mood blanket, which I got!) had both knit and crochet patterns. There's also a crochet class offered, but as I'm just here for the week I won't be able to speak to that. I do know that it's right around the corner from a Little Anita's, so if you want to make a day of grabbing lunch and yarn it's easy.

We wanted to deck out our newish home with some faces of our favorite artists and thinkers, so we went wandering through the interwebs jungle and found fineartamerica.com, which had some pretty dope, affordable prints (Neko Case, Dalai Lama, Prince... yesssss). I figured I'd really score by picking up some cheap-o frames at Michael's and quickly realized that our prints came in unconventional sizes. That's when I asked the woman behind the counter, Stephanie, for some help. She was terrific. I knew, immediately, that I could trust her to creatively customize colors and nail the right frames, and she spent a good 45-50 minutes with me, individually working through each print, finding deals and discounts when possible, and honoring the artists who created the work. In the end I dropped a lot of cash on the job, but quite honestly, it was worth every friggin' penny. Sure & out the door we go. Otherwise the store is large & well stocked with all kinds of craft supplies. Lost on me - there isn't an artistic bone in my body. I went to the framing department and the most professional and caring man helped me. He said it would need to be cut to fit. I thought to myself, well, that's another trip from Taos to Santa Fe to pick up the glass. To my surprise he said he could cut the 3 pieces for me and and have them ready in less than 10 minutes! He suggested that I do my shopping and he would come and find me when he was done! He even packed them with bubble wrap to protect them on my drive home. Incredible service. I'm sorry I don't know his name but the framer name on the receipt is Candace J (he's obviously not Candace!). He had a beautiful tattoo on his forearm. Watch for him, he's awesome!

We took two grand kids (ages 5 and 7) to Creativity Warehouse for a pottery class that was…read moreadvertised in the January Cibola Neighborhood alerts. The pottery class was $40 per child. There were only 3 children signed up for the "Kids Clay workshop", so there was plenty of opportunity for the teacher to provide one-on-one attention to them. There was not much direction or instruction from the teacher on how to prepare the clay or proper painting technique to use on clay. She did demonstrate how to attach items to clay by scraping. For this age, we felt there should have been more instruction on designing of the objects and directions on how to paint the clay, so when fired, the color would be more vibrant. The color of the completed pieces was very washed out, almost if they had been just painted with water color. The teacher said the project would be ready in 7 to 10 days and that we would receive a text when the pieces were ready to pick up. It took 21 days and we were never notified for pick-up. We had to personally check 3 times to see if project had been completed and was ready to pick up. Very disappointed in the service after paying over $80 for the class.
