I had to drag basic information out of them, like whether an appointment was needed to place an order. I also stopped by in person just to browse frames, and wasn't even greeted when I walked in. Instead, a temp worker's first words were "do you have an appointment?" When I said no, I got a somewhat dismissive "so... what can I help you with?" Not exactly the welcoming vibe you'd want from an eye care office. Between the phone call and the in-person visit, it felt less like customer service and more like I was inconveniencing someone by showing up. I ended up not booking anything. Disappointing, because I was ready to walk in and buy glasses same-day.

They also welcome walk-ins when availability allows, which was really helpful since my usual optometrist was booked out four weeks and I needed an updated prescription quickly. The staff was friendly, and the check-in process was quick and easy. I saw Dr. Anhthu Do, and she was warm, professional, and had such a welcoming vibe that made me feel comfortable right away. She was very thorough during the exam, took her time, and explained everything in a way that was easy to understand and never made me feel rushed. She answered all of my questions with patience and made sure I understood my prescription and overall eye health. I felt well cared for and confident in her expertise. She's someone I'd go back to for future eye exams. I recommend this place if you're looking for quality eye care without a long wait.

This is in the Costco of Elk Grove. It is called Elk Grove Vision Center. I already had a…read moreprescription and needed it filled. I had surgery on one eye and my vision changed. I didn't see the eye doctor. Only the techs at the counter. It's really convenient location right inside Costco. Make sure you take a number from the dispenser so you get a place. No line here. As you wait they have several cases of frames lining the wall. The 3 or for section to the right are Men's frames the middle is sunglasses and the left are for women. It was busy so I had ample time to pick out some frames that my wife and I liked. The tech asked for the primary card holder. I did see online that you don't need to be a Costco member to use this location but I didn't ask. The tech also asked if we had insurance which we did and they covered some of the glasses. I decided to get two pair since the insurance was almost paying for one and since we are Costco members we get an additional 50 bucks off two pair. He asked if I wanted Progressive lenses which I have never heard of. It's what they call bifocals now. It takes getting use to so with two sets of glasses I could bet one of both and use the Progressive when I get used to them. He said they would be done by two weeks. Great . Update. The lenses were done in just over a week. They texted me just a bit before they closed on a Saturday and they are not open on Sunday so kind of a bummer. I ended up going on Tuesday to get them The worker was very professional and fitted my two pair of glasses nicely. Very friendly and said if there are any problems to come in and they would fix them. No rush and spent the time to make sure I was happy. She said I should use the progressive lenses first for two weeks to get used to them and then I could use the regular ones for driving if I wanted to later.

Last year, I learned that the optometrists who had run the location for many years had retired. It seems like things really began to change around the time VSP took over. Unfortunately, as others have noted in their reviews, the customer service is now lacking and just doesn't have the same welcoming, personal feel it once did. I saw Dr. Staples during my most recent visit last year. I found her somewhat rude and unfriendly at the beginning of the appointment, although she did soften up as the visit went on, which I appreciated. After being a patient here for nearly 30 years, I've decided that will be my last year. I'll be going to Kaiser instead, where my experience with both the customer service and the doctor I met was much more pleasant. It's unfortunate to leave a place I've been going to since 1997, but ultimately, I prefer to give my business to a place where I feel welcomed and valued as a customer.

But when my company switched vision insurance providers, I had to look for somewhere new if I wanted to stay in-network. I will admit I had some reservations about Eye-Minded being inside a Target - I guess I was a little snobby about it, thinking it might not have the same level of service I was used to. But I quickly realized I was totally wrong. The staff here is awesome. They really know how to help you make the most of your vision benefits, and they always keep me in the loop about any rebates, promotions, and available deals. They also take the time to walk me through different frame and contact options, offering quotes for everything so I can make the best possible choice based on my needs and budget. Plus, they've got a pretty good selection of frames, so I never feel limited. Dr. Nguyen has been fantastic from day one. She's super kind, really knowledgeable, and takes the time to explain everything. No question is too small for her, and I always leave feeling confident about my eye health. I've been going to Eye-Minded for almost 4 years now, and I couldn't be happier with the whole experience.
