If I could give zero stars I would. I always get here early and end up waiting past my time to be seen. Today, I called because I took the wrong street on accident, I called and told them I would be about 5-10 minutes late. They said they would have to reschedule me, I said what? So I went in, and the doctor Andrew, son of the owners, now takes patients ever 20 minutes! He said he would see me but not complete the exam. I had scheduled for an eye exam for glasses and contacts. No way with all the BS other exams they sell would that be done in 20 minutes. On top of that there is no grace period?!?! Things happen. Clearly he is going to drive this business in the ground because they no longer care about patients and only care about fast food eye care. Never again, I didn't even stay. Went to this place with high hopes after my recent optometrist moved out of the area. From the first moment being seen by one of the doctors at this location the staff kept bragging how they had the only top of line equipment in the area. I felt it odd they would keep stating that. During the office visit the optometrist was being very direct with a lot of his questions and very serious and somewhat rude. He kept stating I was not giving him the answer he wanted. He is the pro has all the tools to utilize to get the answers if my responses were not helpful. I tried to joke to break ice but he still was a pretty serious person. Fast forward to today. When I left the appt no written prescription was provided, I had my contact prescription updated included in the appt. It took 2 follow up calls to get a copy of my eye and contact prescriptions. Yesterday when asking for sample contact to try which has always been provided by my previous eye doctors it became such a fiasco that it led to them texting me this. TLDR: Avoid this place like the plague if u don't want to deal with the waste of time of being seen to later be shown the door. I am now waiting for a refund and for my insurance to allow me to utilize my benefits for another office. 'Following our recent phone conversation, we are no longer comfortable proceeding with in office services. As such, we will not be processing your refund in person. We have contacted VSP and successfully reversed all benefits associated with your recent visit, allowing you to seek care at another optometry office of your choice. Dr Kageyama, David and Andrew are the best. My entire family has come here for years. Now that Andrew is in the practice I am happy to see my children will have a great eye doctor for a very long time. Two of three kids where eyeglasses and my wife as well. We have come here now for about 15 years and I am truly pleased to see Dr. Andrew now in the practice.Their support has gone beyond our eye health. They have been supporters of the youth in our community. Their donations have contributed to the success of youth programs in Elk Grove. Supporting our youth in productive, healthy activities is one of the greatest acts. A business can do. It is truly giving back to the community. read more

I went here a couple of months ago because of the good reviews but my experience was not that good. I was frustrated because they couldn't get my prescription glasses right. I went back and forth a few times to get it replaced. They asked me to return again but I don't want to waste anymore of my time. The assistants were not very helpful. It is now close to 20 yrs that my husband and I have been seeing Dr. Kageyama and we are still happy patients. I was dismayed to see a negative review and wanted to say the Dr.s most likely were unaware of that staff members rudeness AND wanted to say that person is now no longer working there. Even though we mainly see Dr. Kageyama, Dr. Tamai has also seen us for problems when Dr. Kageyama was not working. Wow!!! I love this place!!!! The doctor here is wonderful, caring and above all....he really does care about his patients. I first came here a few years ago because I wanted a second opinion for my sight problems. Over the years I noticed my vision getting worst. My regular optometrist said she couldn't help me any further. The doctor diagnosed me with keratoconus (google it for future details). Because of him I got the treatment I needed!!!!! I cannot thank him enough for informing me of this. He probably saved my eye sight from getting worst. Fast forward 1.5 years and I'm back seeing him again. This time for hard contact lenses. I cannot say enough good praises for him and his staff. Never had contacts before. They were so kind and caring throughout the whole process. Even when I took all day to learn how to put them on. They taught me everything I needed to know and even gave me all the time I needed to learn how to get better. From beginning to end....they are the best!!! Staff was so caring and nice. Asked if I needed any tips or help. The doctor always checked on me and made sure I could put the hard contacts in and that I could remove them. I will forever be grateful to the doctor and his staff here. They will always get recommended from me and I'll make sure to spread the good praises they deserve. I have been coming here for years & love the staff! I have always received amazing service and care. My appointments are always on time & the staff is friendly & courteous. My eyes require specialized lenses that few Drs. are able to fit patients for. Dr. Kageyama has gone above and beyond to make sure I have the best vision & fit. I have also trusted them with my daughter's eye care. They do a great job with small children & my daughter (6) actually enjoys coming in for her exam. My family and I have been going to Dr. Tamai and Dr. Kageyama for years. Both Dr. Tamai and Dr. Kageyama are very professional and knowledgeable. They will take the time to explain things to you and help you to make the right choices for you. My problem was that I could read computer text just fine but small print up close was getting harder and harder. I had never seen or heard of reading bifocals (not for distance and reading but solely for reading). Dr. Kageyama explained the issue that my eyes were having (I need a strong prescription to read text up close and a weaker prescription to read text that is a couple of feet away). So low and behold I'm getting bifocal readers. Thank goodness. Their staff are also very pleasant and helpful. They are also very helpful in explaining your insurance and what it will and won't cover and whether you need certain options for your glasses. But never high pressure. I trust them with the care of my wife's and our three children's vision. read more

Very friendly staff. I'm giving this a five star review based on my experience with other optometry offices. I usually hate going to the optometrist and always change offices because of a bad experience. This was the very first time I not only a good experience but left feel confident with the services I received! The staff was punctual and friendly. The Doctor was knowledgeable, and for the first time in my life was able to figure out what vision problems I was having. I will be returning here for now on! I've been to over a dozen optometrists and this has been the best! I also loved how they made sure I understood what they we're doing and if I had any questions or concerns. I had an appointment on Monday 5/1/2017 and it went great! Dr. Kageyama and his staff are very professional and courteous. They did not pressure me into anything I did not want. All I needed was an eye exam so I could get a current prescription so I could order custom sun/eyeglasses. Overall they had me in and out at around one hour. Horrible, awful, non-service. I took my sunglasses in to get the lenses replaced. They quoted a price higher than what it cost for the sunglasses in the first place, but I think, "hey, I'm paying for the convenience." I give them my $, they say, "Ready in a week to ten days. We'll call you." Two weeks later, I'm tired of waiting, so I stop by. They say, "The glasses will be here tomorrow. We'll call you." It has now been OVER A MONTH and I have no glasses. I want my glasses back, I want my money back and I want you to never, never, never go there. read more

This place is amazing! The staff is so friendly and very knowledgeable and are a great help with finding frames. They have a great selection of frames which included some that were covered by my insurance as well as the high end frames which I prefer. I'm pretty late in wiring this, but I wanted to share my experience. I went to Elk Grove Optometry for the first time last year and was really happy with my exam. The doctor (I can't remember who it was) was knowledgeable, honest, and straightforward which I really liked. What I didn't like was the selection of glasses they offer and the quality of lenses. I've been wearing glasses for 20 years and have never had an issue with my lenses like I did with these. After having my glasses for about 4 months, my lenses started to looked scratched and almost like a film was being peeled off of them. I went back to the office to see what was going on and to see if my lenses could be replaced. The woman who helped me, who was either the owner or the office manager, was very rude and blamed the issues I was having on me and the way I was cleaning my glasses. Thankfully my lenses were replaced quickly and free of charge, but almost a year later I am having the SAME issue with my lenses. I've taken perfect care of these lenses because I didn't want this to happen again, but it did. The "peeling" is almost worse this time, so much so that I struggle to see out of my glasses at times. I want to stop by the office again to have them replaced, but I don't want to deal with this issue for a third time so I'm just dealing with it. Definitely not going to be purchasing glasses from them again, but I may be back for an exam, we'll see. read more

I then asked for a copy of my RX so I could go somewhere else and they told me they could not give me a copy. I asked for the Dr, and miraculousy they gave me a copy. My daughter has always had a pretty strong eye prescription and was coming home regularly with bad headaches. Her previous Optometrist said it wasn't due to her glasses. I had a really great experience here. I really like the staff and doctor whom I worked with. They were very thorough. When it came to selecting frames, all the women in the office gave me their opinion and helped me narrow down my selections. As promised a week later my frames arrived and I love them. All-in-all it was great... my only issue is that I had a pair of sunglasses that the tiny little screw had come out of. I asked if they'd mind fixing it. The lady who helped me said it was no problem but tightened them so tight that when I opened the temple arms the bracket bearing the screw snapped off... so now they are irreparable. I left my last eye doctor because of the high pressure to buy very costly frames. I suppose that's how they make their money. Although, the office staff does try to steer you towards the more expensive designer frames, I don't feel the same kind of pressure I did at the last office. Once I made it clear I was only willing to get whatever my insurance covers they "suddenly remembered" a drawer that had some frames for me to choose from. The Doctors are both great and very competent. Overall, I am happy and plan to stay. read more

The doctor was excellent very engage with patient, but the team behind this doctor is RUDE. I was running behind due to work. I called the office to let them know I was running 10 minutes behind. When I got there I needed to use the restroom. One of the receptionists showed me where the restroom was. As I was walking out, the lady from behind the counter with very short hair made a comment saying, "She was late! Can't believe she has to use the restroom too!" As I made my way back, I went into the exam room where I met the doctor, and once again, he was very good. He asked, "How did you hear about us.?" I replied, "I'm actually related to one of the receptionists, she recommended me to come here." As I left the exam room, the lady with very short hair told me, "Oh, if I knew you were a relative, I would've greeted you sooner." Seriously? I was going to ask her, "Shouldn't you greet all your guest as soon as they come in?!" My experience was rather bad, and I do not expect to return. read more
