Listen to the reviews. This gastro practice has gone downhill for me…read more Last appointment I had I believe I was the first or second appointment of the day. They still called me in late. The nurse who did intake wasn't very friendly, either. Then I got to see my provider (name withheld until I set up care elsewhere) and got a pretty broad and unthorough, scoldy interaction. She said I should have come last year even though she never told me I needed yearly check ins. She ordered studies but didn't really tell me what she was looking for, but then later said we had a whole discussion on it. I will say the studies were thorough and necessary so I don't question the expertise, more so the interactions. I do appreciate you can communicate directly via the portal. The other - BIG - problem is that it's basically impossible to reach the office directly. I don't know if this is some private equity ownership nonsense or what not but their scheduling is centralized and disconnected. It's hard to reach them for an appointment in the first place and if you need to reschedule it's almost mission impossible. I don't know when parts of the medical profession decided that speaking to an office directly was a bad idea, but omg, that has to be one of the worst developments in medicine. I am probably moving my care elsewhere.

Her tone was rude when asking me for my information. I would not recommend this place through calling. The fact that the first person a patient has to talk to is rude is inappropriate, unacceptable, and unprofessional.

Dr Frank is rude, condescending, judgmental, and not any better than a typical gastroenterologist…read more He's like Dr House, if Dr House wasn't all that good at medicine. Like others, I also saw him because he got such great reviews. In all seriousness I don't believe the positive reviews. "He knows what he's doing and he truly cares for his patients." LOL I saw Dr Frank at least a half-dozen times and never, not once, would I describe him as a person who "truly cares for his patients." He seems to have nothing but contempt for his patients! Honestly, he treated me so poorly as a person that it bordered on abusive and I stopped seeing him. He is a terrible doctor.

I had two colonoscopies performed by doctor Frank, the last one six or seven years ago. They were…read moreboth done at the MedStar outpatient offices on 21st street in Washington D.C. The first was done 16 or 17 years ago and everything went smoothly, though I did begin to come out of anesthesia prior to the endoscope being fully withdrawn, which created an uncomfortable feeling. For the second colonoscopy Dr Frank prescribed an off-label prep administration. I was to take the first and final prep dosages within several hours of each other, since I was scheduled for an early morning procedure, even though the prep label indicated the entire dosage should not be consumed in the same day. After the procedure I had atrial flutter and could not be discharged. Instead I was taken by ambulance to GWU hospital where I was treated in the ER for six hours. They were getting ready to admit me there when my heart spontaneously converted (after large doses of various electrolytes that had been depleted from my body by the prep). Because there was permanent damage to my heart I am sentenced to taking blood thinners for the rest of my life to prevent future strokes. Since the prep had been prescribed off-label I was told that mine was a "sentinel" event and the FDA had to be notified. I found out later that my hear rate prior to the colonoscopy was over 120 BPM, and that the procedure should not have been performed for that reason alone. Dr Frank's reckless desire to continue on schedule regardless of the contravening signs negatively changed my life forever. The uneducated public generally rates doctors based on how friendly or organized they are, or their schooling or how timely they are. What other criteria do we have to go on? They NEVER tell you about their failures or flubs because that could affect their business. For the most part, everything these doctors do is just fine, until it isn't. If I had sued this guy, as my wife wanted me to, I probably would have been silenced by an NDA as part of the settlement. But I didn't. So I'm telling you something Doctor Frank would never tell you himself nor would he want you to know.

Dr. Cohen is the best GI and overall physician I have ever had. She is my 6th or 7th GI physician…read moreover the years and by far the very best. I was very sick in a 2.5 year flare and Dr. Cohen cured me!!! I was told by previous physicians my only solution would be surgery multiple times, but Dr. Cohen did her research and we tried another combination of therapies, that have been working so well! She tried these new combinations of therapies with very close monitoring. She is so smart and experienced but ensures she explains everything in patient friendly terms, very comprehensively, practicing shared decision making as well. Our first appointment we went through my whole medication/disease history to ensure she had all the information- so patient and comprehensive!! She is always very patient with all my questions and concerns, quick with follow up, and extremely comprehensive. She focuses on GI of course, but she also ensures I am update to date on all vaccines and exams (even more so than my pcp :) ), and takes the time to discuss non- GI related medical concerns with me as well. She checks in on mental health and nutrition and provides recommendations and referrals for all specialities. She is truly the best, most comprehensive physician I have ever had and I feel so grateful to be under her care!! Highly highly recommend!!!

She immediately put me at ease. She gave me several openings in which to ask questions and at the end of the visit, she told me to email her if I had any questions before my procedure. I did end up having a question and it was answered promptly. There was also a video as well as several documents offering information concerning the Covid test, the preparation for the procedure and the procedure itself. The followup to make an appointment for the Covid test and procedure went smoothly. The Covid test was administered in her office where I felt very safe--all protocols were followed, there was only one other person in the large waiting room and I only had to wait very briefly. The day of the procedure, the staff and the doctor made me feel comfortable and were all very professional. The center seems very well-run. I was treated with such care and respect. I had great trepidation about having this procedure but Dr. Cohen gave me great confidence every step of the way.

Rating due to new patient policy…read more Currently there is a six month wait (January 2024) and they would not place me on the waiting list. They referred me to Capital Digestive Care and stated that it was part of GWMFA. When I made the call to Capital Digestive Care, they were rude and made it clear that they are not a part of GWMFA and that there would be a wait with them. My complaint is that I've been with GWMFA for at least 15 years and the service has gotten worse over the years. GWMFA number of patients have grown exponentially and they have not kept up with the demand for doctors and services. (colonoscopy, mammogram, sleep study, etc.) I hope they can turn things around - otherwise I'll be looking elswhere.

To say…read morethat my fiancee's experience at this practice has been horrible would be a gross understatement and wouldn't remotely do the experience justice. My fiancee initially saw Dr. Gabriel Diaz and quite frankly we weren't impressed with him or his treatment of my fiancee. He was quick to invalidate what she was saying she was feeling and appeared skeptical of her despite her having a long, complicated history of GI issues. Eventually, he told her that she would need to have an endoscopy so we could move forward with understanding the cause of her chronic stomach pain and discomfort as well as officially confirming whether she has celiac disease or not. Our experience since scheduling the initial endoscopy has been nothing short of unprofessional and unserious. She was initially scheduled for an endoscopy on March 14th and was told she needed to consume gluten (which she reacts to) for 4 to 6 weeks before her procedure. A few days before the procedure she receives a call from the gastro office saying that they've had something come up and they need to reschedule her procedure and the soonest available appointment is on May 23rd...over 2 months later. After she's already been consuming gluten which she has a sensitivity to at the least and celiac disease at the worst. Anyway, May 22nd rolls around and she receives a call from the gastro office mentioning that she needs to have a cardiology consult scheduled prior to the procedure and it will have to be canceled altogether until she has an EKG and reviews it with her cardiologist. This is beyond unacceptable because she has been waiting for months for this procedure and they had more than ample time to provide us with this information so that we could get this scheduled and taken care of and avoid further delay. GW Gastroenterology is beyond insensitive to the pain and suffering that their patients experience and their actions only further emphasize that. I wouldn't recommend this practice to my worst enemy.

I was dealing with significant pain and was unable to really function as a person, not to mention work -- and was told by numerous doctors that my only choice was invasive and often-dangerous major surgery. When I came to Dr. Marie, she obviously had either treated patients with my condition before, or had done a great deal of research. Her therapies have been effective, have not caused any side-effects that I've noticed, and have left me feeling energized. I've been able to start exercising and working again, and no longer feel pressure to undergo that surgery. Dr. Marie genuinely cares for her patients and takes the time to explain exactly why her treatments work the way they do. She also encouraged me to undertake positive lifestyle changes that I would have once thought impossible. She has literally changed my life.
