I started seeing Dr. Marie for treatment of a chronic digestive condition for which traditional Western medicines had provided no sustained relief for years. I was dealing with significant pain and was unable to really function as a person, not to mention work -- and was told by numerous doctors that my only choice was invasive and often-dangerous major surgery. When I came to Dr. Marie, she obviously had either treated patients with my condition before, or had done a great deal of research. Her therapies have been effective, have not caused any side-effects that I've noticed, and have left me feeling energized. I write this review with full awareness that Dr. Marie's current reviews are positively glowing. I read them all before we agreed to work together, and I deeply hoped to have the same kind of healing experience as her other clients. For context: I'm a 32-year-old cisgender woman, and I've had severe endometriosis for years, a condition which has regularly become debilitating--and is why I sought Dr. Marie's support. I've worked with a spectrum of other healers, including another naturopath, acupuncturists, massage and cranio-sacral therapists, herbalists, and others in addition to traditional Western medicine. My partner is a shaman. Several close members of my community are skilled in energy work. I say all this for no other reason than to establish that I come from a place of knowing what skill in these disciplines looks and feels like. I really wanted Dr. Marie to be the skilled energy worker she claims to be--and am deeply disheartened to learn that she is not. The depth of her knowledge is superficial at best--a far cry from what she represents online, and professes to offer to her clients. Please believe: I don't doubt she has been helpful to the people who have left these beautiful reviews. I can only surmise that these people were newer to this work. I can see how her offerings may seem like a blessing if you've never had a nutritional consult or experienced energy work before. But if you are seeking a skilled energy worker, someone with authentic shamanic experience, or a depth of nutritional insight that transcends basic diet maintenance, I cannot recommend her services. I feel moved to document my experience not to dissuade potential clients from working with Dr. Marie, but to offer this perspective as others navigate the challenging and often daunting process of finding the right healer. I wish myself I had known all this before. -During a 90-min consultation, I shared a detailed and heartfelt history of my health, sexual history, trauma, diet, and healing in exchange for what I understood would be a comprehensive treatment plan. What I received was a few disjointed paragraphs in the body of an email, a couple of hyperlinks, and a prescription for some herbal supplements. No nuance or insight. Short of the prescription, the advice was nothing I couldn't have found myself online--or in any of the widely available holistic nutrition and feminine care books I've already read. -Diet: as a long-time vegan, I'd hoped to have a conversation about nutrition and potential deficiencies in my diet that could influence my healing. I was dismayed when the conversation landed (and ended) on iron and protein--the most rudimentary and obvious elements. I thought she was kidding when she recommended a handful of morning nuts to "feel full" and said my body "was probably used to being vegan" until I realized that was really the depth of insight she was willing to offer. -Energy work: At the end of the consultation, we did a short "energy work" session, during which she called on "female guides," which illustrates that Dr. Marie was not especially connected to my psyche or energy or aura but rather relying on a script of some kind, something most skilled energy workers depart from. It's one thing to invoke members of my maternal line, specific deities, or even spirit guides that appear in feminine form, but a general request for assistance by "female guides" ignores the substantive support these guides may offer--whether clearing an ancestral issue or relying on specific wisdom or power of certain guides. This is fundamental, and a clear indication of the limits of her abilities. She ended by offering a couple very obvious reflections I'd already made myself (heart open, root chakra stagnant). -Cost: Dr. Marie charges $350 for a 90-min phone consult and "treatment plan." I gave her my credit card info during our call, requesting she use that card instead of the one I'd used to reserve our appointment. She followed up later to say she'd misplaced the cc info I shared on the call. After receiving her meager email "plan," I was heartbroken and disappointed. I responded in a private email with the honest reflection I've offered here, to open the possibility of engaging with her, and also offered to give her my preferred cc info again, adding that she would have my permission to charge my card for a sum she felt reflected the value of insight she offered. Before responding to my email, she charged the card I *twice* requested she not use. For the full $350. I can't say whether this was malicious--I really hope not. But at best, it reflects an utter lack of care and awareness. Only after that did she respond to my email--briefly, dismissively, and without openness or willingness to engage. Dr. Marie clearly believes her services worth this emotional and financial investment. I couldn't disagree more. I am saddened, disappointed, and truly exhausted as I write this, and hope I can spare you the same. read more

To give you some back story, I have always been a very healthy person. I've always been into personal fitness and proper nutrition, eat a balanced diet of organic foods, make smart lifestyle choices that promote health, etc. However, starting about two years ago, I began to notice an extreme decline in the amount of daily energy I had. I was still working long hours in addition to countless hours of cousework in my university classes, but the difference was in my body's response to it. Even when I had a time to relax and recooperate, my body continued to elicit an exhausted response, and even after a solid month of relaxation, there wasn't a significant improvement in the overall amount of energy I had. Additionally, I had previously become very sick from a severe cold/flu about a year prior. After two weeks with a strong antibiotic, there was no improvement. Two more weeks with a different antibiotic, and again, no improvement. One more session of two more weeks, with test after test on my blood, and no improvement was to be seen. I finally stopped going to my MD, and haven't had much faith in the alopathic medical tradition. I was referred to Dr. Marie from a number of my colleagues, and I was amazed at the amount of effort that Dr. Marie puts forth in order to assist all of her patients with their conditions. I started seeing Dr. Rodriguez in October 2009 on an "I'm turning 35 and something needs to change" whim. I lived with anxiety and mild depression for years, and although I could always see the bright side of things, I couldn't live consistently in that space. I quit smoking in February 2009, but had been using Nicorette Gum on the "I'll have it when I want it" plan that lasted for several months and way beyond the recommended time. I was also consuming approximately 30 packets of Splenda in my morning coffee. Yes, you read that correctly ... thirty. I've seen Dr Rodriguez for ~ 1 yr. She was a true sanity savior for me. Having suffered with horrible menopausal symptoms for years, she diagnosed ( with medical testing) an underlying adrenal issue. Wow, Marie is amazing and helped me considerably! At first, I was a little weary of seeing her since she was described to me as a shaman. I wasn't quite sure what that meant, what to expect, and whether she would actually be able to help me. It turned out to be one of the main things (the other thing was Dr. Bryan at Cypress Natural Health in Palo Alto who recommended Marie to me) that helped cure my mysterious disease which I had been battling for a couple of years. I had seen a bunch of conventional doctors and specialists. I had blood work, stool tests, and biopsies done on a mysterious and disgusting whole body, pussing rash that would get set off by insect bites. The first couple of times I took prednisone which shut down my immune system down and made me feel terrible, but no one could tell me what the issue was or how I could prevent it from happening again. Dr. Bryan helped me figure out that the underlying issue was parasites and I took a few rounds of antiparasitic medication but it never completely eradicated the parasites. Out of desperation and no idea what else to do, I went to see Marie. She had me lay down face up and clothed on a massage table. I didn't have to do anything while she worked her magic. I just laid there and did some intermittent guided visualizations. It was quite relaxing. What was amazing and sounds totally crazy is that while I was laying there, all of a sudden, I saw a huge tornado of black eggs swirl out of control and out of me. I have no idea what that was since it was so surreal - maybe it was me almost falling asleep or something otherworldly. It doesn't really matter but the experience completely blew me away. Regardless, after our treatment, I felt relaxed and went home. I got tested again for parasites and was finally cleared! It's been about six months since I first saw Marie. I have asked Dr. Rodriguez to perform a distance healing and clearing a few times, each time with a great result. The first time she did it was actually the day before my wedding. As with most weddings, the preparations leading up to it were hectic and I was feeling out of balance and getting stressed out. Dr. Rodriguez spent some time clearing out lower energies. After that, I was once again happy and excited for the occasion (instead of being tired and stressed). I can say with confidence that the energy clearing she did contributed to an amazing wedding experience for me. I was relaxed and able to truly enjoy my wedding day, and the small things that went wrong on the wedding day were really no big deal. Dr Rodriguez seems like a very skilled doctor, but I found her bedside manner to be very aggressive. She tries to 'make her patients take responsibilty for their health' and agressively suggested that I have psychological problems and should seek help, that surprised me and I found to be way off base and in any case not an assessment that an ND should make after meeting me once. This tough love might work for some people, but I ultimately decided that I dont want to pay out of pocket for someone to beat me up emotionally in the middle of my work day. This review is long overdue, but I want to add the the chorus of praise for Dr. Marie. I saw her after suffering from major digestive issues for more than a year. Traditional medicine wasn't working for me - I saw a GP, gastroenterologist, infectious disease specialist and allergist.
