I would like to share my experience with this practice for transparency. I scheduled an appointment for a dental evaluation; however, the evaluation did not take place because I did not have X-rays from my previous dentist. I was seated in the dental chair for less than two minutes, during which the dentist briefly looked in my mouth and then asked for the X-rays. When I informed her that I did not have them, I was told that an evaluation could not be completed without them. I left the office and later obtained the X-rays from my previous dentist, which I emailed to them later that week. Anyways Approximately nine months later, Im being contacted by this practice and charged $200 for an evaluation that, in my understanding, never occurred. Since then, I have received repeated calls harassing me requesting payment. I contacted my insurance provider, who advised me not to pay out of pocket and instructed the office to submit the claim to insurance. I relayed this information to the practice; however, they continue to insist that insurance will not cover the charge and that I am personally responsible for payment. I believe this billing is inappropriate given that no evaluation or diagnosis was completed, and the ongoing calls have been distressing. I encourage others to carefully review their billing statements and clarify all charges before leaving an appointment, because this is clearly a SCAM STRATEGY they have going on. read more

The dentist is a sadist and loves inflicting pain on patients whilst acting as if he is helping them by DOING HIS JOB. Terrible bedside manner and had reception step in to check on me while in agonizing pain. Stay away from this office. Their check-in laptops do not work and you will be waiting for a while despite making an appointment. If you like pain and being humiliated based on your weight and size as well then this is the place for you. In the end I had him install invisalign. After 2-1/2 years it was a complete failure. I feel that Dr. Kokolis wasnt qualified to perform orthodontic work. I guess he realized his failure as a dentist and offered to put braces. He said i needed a few months with the wire. An orthodontist said 12 to 15 months. but in the end I lost confidence in him. What a waste of $4700!!! I don't think dentists are qualified to administer braces or invisalign. My advice is to go to a reputable "INDEPENDENT" orthodontist. Do not trust Dr. Kokolis with your dental care under any circumstances. He strolled into my appointment 40 minutes late wearing visibly dirty scrubs. As soon as he walked into the room he acted rude and unprofessional. Worst dentist ever! Bad dental work and very rude staff, Among other things he did a deep cleaning on my Mother and did only half her mouth and gave her an appointment after 2 months for the other half !!!! who does that? But it's not only that he made a guard for my mouth and it totally messed up my teeth. Luckily I found another dentist that I am happy I went too. His secretary the oldest one he has, every time she talks on the phone she rolls her eyes and is disrespectful to everyone. If you have a procedure done they will ask for all the money in advance first and then after days, they will book the appointment for the procedure. I have never heard of that either usually when you have an out of pocket procedure you pay the day of the procudure. Bad dental work Bad service Bad people. BAD ALL AROUND. my advice Dont go. Dr. Koklis is great. I remember when he first opened his practice. Now it's booming, and it is because of his personality and care. His work is professional, as painless as dental work can be, and he really welcomes you to his practice. My wife and I like going to him, even if we have to wait now that he is so busy. I wish as the owner of this clinic you would open your eyes as to the conditions within this office. When you are not there we noticed several BLATANT HIPPA violations. The place is dirty. Bottoms of exam room equipment and chairs need to be scrubbed. Staff should reflect all of the community not low paying assistants that have no clue how it is supposed to be. Not only did I have to wait hours for my appointments (this happened twice!), Dr. Mike's overpriced "treatment plan" was inaccurate and caused me to have a serious infection. While I did not see this Dentist I went to his practice and I'm not sure my experience would've been much different. I think people should be forewarned either way. Let me preface by saying this is the first negative review I've ever written but I was agitated enough to write it. It took me TWO hours to get a simple cleaning, xrays and a checkup. To break that down.... I had called and given my insurance info a week prior only to find out when I got there they had not verified it yet. I then got taken in to have xrays following which I got put in a "private" room (which was really just 1 room split in half by a small wall to make it two exam rooms). There I waited 30 minutes without any employee acknowledging me ( I even got up halfway through this to ask if I'd be helped--no dice) until finally getting a cleaning and exam...2 hours later. My family has been customers here for about 5 years now. I personally switched after Bayside Dental moved to Great Neck two years ago. About a year ago they moved to a bigger office and now it just a factory. For basic cleaning and maintainence it is adequate but underwhelming. My last couple of experiences was not good, up and down the line. The person who took my Xrays was nasty and unprofessional - as a business owner, I felt an obligation to tell Dr. K but after coming back the attitude adjustment never happened. I had a filling replaced - word of advice, if it aint broke dont fix it. I had to return 3 times, 1st time it turned out I had a cavity next to the filling. 2nd time the same filling was not set right. 3rd time it turns out the cavity from the 1st time was not done right. Well, a year later I still have irritation and have not used the right side of my mouth for months. Guess what 4th time-the whole family will be going somewhere else. BTW, the new office must be have expensive because they make you pay for work not done yet and in my case unnecessary. I apologize in advance for the lengthy review. But I cannot in good conscience recommend this dentist and feel that prospective patients need to be aware of the risks they will be exposed to should they decide to seek dental care here. I really like "Dr. Mike" personally, he is an affable enough guy, but the care I received from him was extremely lacking and has now left me seeking dental care elsewhere that is costing me thousands of dollars, including redoing work on teeth I already had done and spent thousands of dollars on at Dr. Kokolis' office. I first visited this office a few years ago at the suggestion of a local Bayside resident when I needed an emergency procedure. I returned last year when I was advised I needed extensive dental work, including a root canal (or two!) and a bridge. Dr. Mike examined my mouth and they went to work right away, however he never took the necessary x-rays to determine all the work that I would need to have done. This should have been my first sign that I was not getting proper care. After every single visit I had to return for follow up care between appointments. After working on the first tooth, I was still in great pain for a week. I booked a follow up visit and saw one of his associates only to learn the tooth next to the one they had worked on had cracked and I would need a root canal on that tooth. A condition that could have been avoided had x-rays been performed. Then there was the bridge that fell out a few days after it was put in. Twice. A cap that fell out after being put in. Unfortunately, the list of issues I have had with their dental work is long. I kept returning and giving them the benefit of the doubt because I needed a lot of work and had entrusted my dental health to Dr. Mike because he is such a nice guy. But I now realize, after getting a second opinion from another dentist when yet another procedure from Kokolis failed me, that I did so to my detriment. Dr. Kokolis is only in this office one day a week. It takes weeks to get a follow up appointment between visits and if you have an issue you have to either see one of the associates, who are less skilled dentists with less experience (I believe some may be apprentice dentists), or wait weeks to see him. This location is more like a dental factory, with multiple chairs and rooms rotating patients in and out on the hour. There is no way Dr. Kokolis can keep track of his patients' necessary needs with the amount of patients he sees in one day and so infrequently. The service you receive is third rate compared to what you would receive if you were to go to a dental school to get discounted work. I am very disappointed about my experiences here and strongly recommend if you are considering getting dental work here, for your dental health and your financial well being, that you seriously look elsewhere. read more

I have had so many unfortunate things come to pass with my association with this office in Bayside over the last 2 years. From the time my son was passed fluouride in a cup, so he swallowed it and threw up all afternoon, to the requests for pre-authorizations which were lost in cyberspace (sure it could happen, but TWICE?), to the phone messages never received at my home, to the wrong appointment times written on the appt cards, to the LOST appointment "so can you come back later 'cause the Dr. goes to lunch soon?" Did I mention that a chipped tooth that was repaired was also repaired AGAIN the next week and chipped AGAIN within the month? Oh, I almost forgot the barb I got while having my teeth cleaned the first time "You sure must like candy.." Dr. Kokolis is the best dentist I have ever been to. He removed two of my wisdom teeth. I was really nervous and he did calm me down and made sure I was comfortable. He did extensive work on my mother and she is not the easiest patient, but he was very patient with her. Also the other dentists he has on staff are good. I was recently referred to Dr. Michael Kokolis from a friend, a referral that exceeded my expectations. They were thorough in confirming my appointments. On all three of my office visits, I arrived early and within minutes they accepted me without having to wait. Their staff is friendly and their office is clean. The hygienist was careful and caring throughout the laser cleaning and thorough teeth cleaning process. I have received many positive reviews on my own business and realize the satisfaction that comes with reading positive comments about your business. I cannot begin to tell you how terrible I think this office is from the front desk to the Assistant to the Dentist. DO NOT GO HERE!! I chose this dentist based on them confirming they were in my insurance network and made an appointment to be looked at. Upon my first visit I discussed with the dentist my reason for being there the extensive repair work I needed and that I haven't had the money for a dentist in years and the only reason I was there was the fact I had insurance now to fix all my root canals and cavities . She seemed understanding and asked her assistant to take full x-rays. I explained that I had a broken tooth which was barely hanging on and it was very painful and that if she could be aware of that while taking the x-rays. Nope she jammed the various tools into my mouth exasperated and huffing and puffing with each film she took. When she got to the difficult views she just yelled at me Bite Bite Bite, We have to get through this you're not doing it right and rolling her eyes. She jammed the tool into my broken tooth and yelled to bite bite the entire scene was just ridiculous she was obviously tired and did not want to be there and took it out on me. After that ordeal the dentist looked over my x-rays and said ok well we need to work on alot so let's start with a cleaning. The cleaning went just fine and I set up my next appointment. I forgot to ask for a Dr's note so I called the next day the front desk person was so rude to me and said we don't fax notes so your just going to have to come down here and pick it up. which I did. The next appointment I still wasn't sure what I was getting done as the Dr. had done fully explained her plan of what I needed done. I asked and she said we're doing a root canal. She was working on my mouth for about 10 mins all while her nasty assistant and her gossiped right over my mouth. The assistant while still in a bad mood was not as nasty this day. After the 10 mins the Dr. said she was done and to make my next appointment. Making my next appt at the the front they slam me with the news that the "specialist" who would complete my root canal doesn't accept my insurance. Great, Thanks for telling me this after you've started a procedure are you kidding me?? I would be charged $300 a tooth for 4 teeth I needed done. The fact that they didn't tell me this prior to working on me is just unacceptable. Anyways so I start looking for a Dr. in network because my insurance covers the procedures I need. I call several places and NO ONE wanted to take me considering the root canal was started by another Dr. which was a huge hassle if I had known this I wouldn't have had them start anything. I finally found one in Brooklyn willing to take me. So I called and asked for my x-rays to be sent to my new Dr. the same rude front desk receptionist told me they didn't do that and I'd have to come down to get them and sign a release if I wanted them. I called over the weekend and that receptionist was very polite said no problem and emailed them to me right away. After seeing my new dentist who's great and his assistant who caring - TOTAL difference in level of attitude and attention. The new dentist starts working on my root canal plus the others well come to find out the other Dentist has ruined my tooth. There is a piece of a file in one of my canals that broke off. The new dentist def didn't do it he took new x-rays when I came in and he showed me the piece on there also when he worked on my mouth after filling my canals he was soooo attentive with every thing he did he looked at those files after every move he made he even threw out about 6 files while working on me for worry that they bent and might break. The Dr. at this place worked on me for 10 mins and never looked once at what she did all she did was gossip. So now I'll prob need to pay for a specialist to fix that. Also to make things even better the authorization my new Dr. put in for my root canals and etc was denied because Dr Kokolis office had put in an extensive authorizations for the work they had intended to do. I my insurance they said the office would have to notify the insurance they needed to remove the authorizations they requested. Great. I called the office and explained what I needed the same nasty front desk person yelled at me so you aren't coming back? um no I'm not your trying to charge me for something my insurance covers. I told her I needed them to write something really quick to say they didn't need the authorizations they requested. She snapped at me we don't do that and put me on hold and never came back. I called the insurance and said look the office is no help is there anyhting I can do. They said the office asked for the claims they need to just tell us they don't need it. I called the office again and the nasty front desk woman said look you were only here once what do you want from me? awful place...ignorant valet parking attendant..who cursed at my in front of my kids. was told I had to do a root canal...got second opinion ...not true!! went to the pediatrics dentistry. .stupid me..all he did was give a list of university hospitals to call to get my child sedated for cavity fillings and basically go into the operating room to get simple cavity fillings!!! all of the numbers on there were wrong anyway!!! waste of time and money there!! horrible!! I went to another pediatric dentist and my child got his cavities filled by using laughing gas. the pediatrics so called dentisit at Bell Dental simply did not want to deal with my child's anxiousness and his crying.. I think this bell dental care is NOT worth a star! Terrible place....problems never get fixed and they lead to new problems that you did not have before.......I was given a root canal last August by a specialist. After he was done, he ordered a few X-Ray on me but after X- Ray, I was told to have the tooth that he worked on extracted.......Three months after the tooth extraction, I was offered a bridge by Michael Kokolis. At the end of last December, He grinded my two normal teeth that are located before and after the extracted tooth. Nightmare started then.....one tooth he grinded had severe pain .....eventually I had another root canal for the tooth he grinded. If he had informed me earlier that there was a possibility of root canal when the tooth was grinded like that, I would not have accepted the bridge. I would have just need a flipper or implant.....He never tells you risks the patient has to take before he starts his work and JUST WANTS MONEY, MONEY, MONEY.......not mention those low IQ, rude girls upstairs and downstairs take his instructions to bleed you dry......they never care about your pain, suffering and all they care about is how to get your money out for completely unnecessary work done!!!!! Very unprofessional place and so called dentists don't have enough knowledge to really do their jobs well..... All the work done on me made me develop TMJ. I could not close my mouth after the unnecessary root canal, he completely ignored me when the specialist went to get his help! Unbelievable place! Awful place! Very unprofessional people work there. STAY AWAY! VERY UNPROFESSIONAL. I have never been to a more unprofessionally-run dental practice. Dr. Kokolis comes off as being nice but he has no regard for patient's time and thinks that if a patient is on Medicaid, it gives him the right to keep the patient waiting and the patient has no right to complain. He is the epitome of unprofessional... He actually had the b*lls to berate me because I complained about him keeping me waiting for 40 minutes!! for his two-minute checkup after my cleaning! He actually told me that since I am not paying out of pocket for the service, I have no right to complain! He went on to further complain to me that he has to over-book, since Medicaid/Medicare doesn't pay him enough, and that's why he runs behind schedule! I guess he continues to accept Medicaid/Medicare because he counts on making money on recommending unnecessary services that insurance doesn't cover so he can rip off patients. If you do go to this dental "factory", be prepared for an unprofessional experience and lots of waiting. I would not trust Dr. Kokolis to do any work on my teeth. The only reason I went there for a few years is because Angela (the dental hygienist) does a very thorough job and she is very nice. There were two times that Dr. Kokolis recommended unnecessary work (root canal & crown), and another dentist that I saw the the first time I went to this office told me I had two cavities, but I didn't believe I needed it, so I followed up with a dentist that I used for over 20 years and trust (I paid out of pocket for his opinion!) As it turned out, I didn't need the work! After the argument that ensued six months ago between myself and Dr. Kokolis, I decided it's not worth the aggravation! I pay out of pocket to go to the dentist that I trust and I have peace of mind that my teeth are receiving proper care, ... and where parking is not an issue! The way I see it, I only have one set of teeth, so it's worth it to pay a dentist I have trust in and who is respectful of my time. As an aside, I received an Explanation of Benefits from my insurance company last year from Dr. Kokolis office that had a charge on it (which was denied!) for "nutrition and tooth brushing advice". I was amazed to see this!! and when I asked the office manager about it, she said that it's a standard line item that is automatically added on to all claims. In all of my years, I have NEVER seen anything like that before....and it wasn't even a service that was provided! Angela, the Hygienist always told me that I do a very good job on my teeth. I gave them proof of my insurance during my appointment, and they never billed them. Instead the extremely rude and condescending secretary accused me of not having insurance. I offered to fax or email paperwork so that she could bill the insurance and she refused to give me a fax number or email address. I called them several times to help them fill out the paperwork, and they didn't do anything. Instead she sent me a bill for work that is 100% covered by my insurance. They are completely incompetent and rude. Avoid this place! read more

RUN AWAY FAST! I was a patient of Dr. K when they were their other building. Dr. K was the sweetest man at that office. Now, he is next to impossible to get an appt with. His people that he leaves in charge are out to bleed you dry and are running that place into the ground. The hygentist Angela is a joke, half ass cleaning with no floss, no plaque removal, why am I here again? This new location is nothing but greed from the valet parking attendant hungrily waiting for a tip to the clueless women downstairs, then the incompetence goes upstairs with misdiagnoses, recommending teeth be pulled that I no longer have to frivilous b.s. That they try to nickel and dime you for. That is why Dr. K is always on vacation to be away from all the incompetence that this place has turned into. He used to work with me at the other office and now these people are so cold and running a revolving door operation that hungrily gives you estimates for thousands when that work isn't even needed. The asian dentist leaves a lot to be desired. She needs to unslant her eyes and reread things. Very unprofessional! Think long and hard before coming here, you will get misdiagnosed and ripped off. Basically, this is 3rd world dentistry in a first world country. Rude and unproffesional help along with angry people answering the phones and poor attitudes while handling insurance claims , along with lack of attention for the patient in -chair. Kokolis seems like a nice guy but this office is much more a BUSINESS than a dentistry. Having people play games with my oral heath is not happening with me\. Look for another dentist. I'm calling today to cancel my next appointment as a damage-control measure due to the fact that a cap which I had put in, fell out a day later and the whole experience was excessively painful and not proffesional at all. Having someone attempting to put a cap on a tooth which was ground down so much that it becomes LOST in the cap/crown with only dental glue expected to keep it in place doesn't take rocket scientist to figure out that it will never hold under the pressures exerted. To add, the time before this, I had a cavity filled. The woman-assistant was not rude but she was dropping dental instruments on the floor and slamming things around and I noticed her doing the same thing while I was waiting to see the dentist the other day. If you don't believe the review, check out the practice for yourself. It is a shame I had to post this review but it is all perfectly true. I don't want others to experience the same. Don't play games with your health, even if you have to pay out of pocket instead with another dentist. To end this, I have had several crowns put in my mouth over the years along with one implant, and all of those procedures were done quickly, efficiently and competently.
